Vernon, IL (Shirley-wife), Glenn Stanley of San Manuel, AZ (Mary-wife); step-granddaughter, Barbara Byrd; great granddaughter, Courtney Byrd of Tulsa, OK; numerous nieces and nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by four brothers and her parents. Evelyn was a member of Order of Eastern Star (charter member), Galiuro Chapter Oracle, Past Worthy Matron and AZ Past Grand Ester. Hobbies include fishing, camping, bowling, and bridge. She was very civic and community minded, and a charter member of Community Presbyterian Church of San Manuel. LEDERER, Jeanne Margaret Sinclair Ellison, died July 16, 1995. Born July 19, 1924 in Baker, MT. Survived by her husband of 17 years, Les R. Lederer; daughters, Donna (Bob) Murphy of Littleton, CO, Carole Ellison (Rod) Izquierdo of Mill Valley, CA, Jacqueline Ellison of Santa Cruz, CA; mother, Genevieve Carlson of Clovis, NM; sisters, Helen (Lee) Adsit of Cody, WY, Margie (Horace) Brock of Clovis, NM. She was preceded in death by her father, Bently John Sinclair and brother Bently John Sinclair, Jr. Jeanne had 14 grandchildren, Stephen (Cheryl) Kearney, Jill (Tony) Avery, Jennifer Murphy, Robert Murphy, Nicholas Izquierdo, Jessica Izquierdo, Aleksa Lederer, Adam Lederer, Scott Lederer, Sarah Lederer, Jeremy Ellison Cross, Charlie Lederer, Everett Lederer, and Linda Bohm. Jeanne had four step-children, Bill (Teresa) Lederer, Louis Lederer, Joe (Lorene) Lederer, and Leslie B. (David) Bohm. Jeanne worked at the Post Office for 20 years as a window clerk and timekeeper. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary 180, and loved to play bingo and bowl. She lived in San Francisco, CA; Philadelphia, PA; and had been in Tucson about 40 years. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to The American Cancer Society. Memorial Services will be held Wednesday, July 19, 1995, at 7:00 p.m. at the Marana Community Christian Church in Marana.
MILLER, William Carey, 79, of Tucson, died Monday, July 17, 1995. Survived by his wife, Polly G.; daughters, Gay Miller of Tucson and Joanna Knapp of Anchorage, AK; grandsons, Alexander C. Knapp and Ian S. Knapp; and brother, Arthur S. Miller of Danville, CA. A graduate of Phillips Academy and Yale University, he retired as a vice-president of Anderson Clayton Foods Company in Dallas, TX. A graveside service will be held in Salado, TX. TYRA, Orville Allen, 81, passed away Wednesday, July 12, 1995 at the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center in Sheridan, WY. Mr. Tyra was born in Ranger, TX on January 6, 1914 the son of James Allen and Kate (McCommas) Tyra. He was united in marriage to Maxine E. Baumkirchner who preceded him in death. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy as a Medical Corpsman, attached to the 1st Marine Division. Mr. Tyra enjoyed hunting, fishing, and cars. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, the Disabled American Veterans, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors include two sons, James M. Tyra of Sheridan, WY and Steve Ortkiese of Conoga Park, CA; two daughters, Adonna E. Tyra and C. Maxine Haynes, both of Tucson, AZ; eleven grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren also survive. Memorial service for Mr. Tyra will be held July 20th at 7:00 p.m. at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Rd. Tucson, AZ. YOCUM, Lee Courtland, 73, died July 17, 1995 at his home in Lake Havasu City, AZ where he had lived for the past 7 years. Mr. Yocum was the son of Verna E. and Lee C. Yocum, Sr., founders of Arizona Mortuary. (Both parents as well as his only sister, Arabel Yocum Long are deceased). He is survived by his wife, Shirley Wood Yocum; and a son, Gregory C. Yocum (Susie) of Lake Havasu City; by three daughters, Barbara Yocum Bianco, Shirley (Yo Yo) Jenson (Don) and Tony Webb (Bob), all of Tucson and by seven grandchildren. Mr. Yocum was born in Logan, OH. He and his sister came to Tucson as children when the Arizona Mortuary was established by their parents in 1926. He was a licensed pilot in his early teens and following his military service with the Navy during WWII, became a Flight Instructor at Marana Airpark where he taught Air Force Cadets to fly. A graduate of the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science in Dallas, TX, Mr. Yocum was associated with Arizona Mortuary until the mid 1970s. While in Tucson he was a member of the Civil Air Patrol and a life member of the Tucson Trap and Skeet Club. A Memorial Service for Mr. Yocum will be held at Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home in Lake Havasu City at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, July 20th. Remembrances may be made to any favorite charity.
FYOCK, Ira J., 86 years old, died Saturday, July 15, 1995. He was a resident for 53 years. Survivors are wife, Nora (Jean) of Tucson; twin sister; many nieces and nephews. He spent 34 years as an employee of the U.S. Government retiring in 1970 as an I.N.S. officer out of Nogales. Mr. Fyock enjoyed membership in the Masonic Lodge. KILROY, Alice Wilson, 59, of Tucson, died July 14, 1995. Survivors include her husband, Oliver B. Kilroy Sr; son, Oliver B. (Lisa) Kilroy Jr. of Sunnyvale, CA; daughter, Nancy Alice Kilroy; brother, Conrad Darrel (Mary) Wilson, both of Tucson; aunt, Ruth Dugan of Muskogee, OK. After attending the University of Oklahoma, Alice worked with M.D. Anderson Cancer Clinic in Houston, TX. She was also affiliated with P.E.O. KOVACS, Andrew, was born in Brooklyn, NY., on January 31, 1911, to Andrew and Emilia (Macase) Kovacs, only a few years after their arrival from Hungary. He is survived by two sisters, Mildred and Stella, both of NJ. His wife of 55 years, Magdalene, died in 1990. He is also survived by son, Andrew Eugene of Tucson; and daughter, Edith Carroll of Ridgefield, CT. He leaves three grandsons, Kevin and Bryan Carroll, and Andrew Gordon Kovacs; three granddaughters, Theresa Reda, Karen Tuccio and Anne Kovacs; seven great-grandchildren, four boys and three girls. Mr. Kovacs was a Machinist, working exclusively in the New York City area. During WWII, he worked a seven day week keeping war production equipment up and running. He moved from Brooklyn to Woodhaven (both in New York City) in 1957. After deciding that winters could be enjoyed rather than endured, he and his wife moved to Tucson in 1987. Mass will be offered at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 18, 1995 at St. Pius X Catholic Church 7651 E. Pima. SALGADO, Fernando E. 'Nando', Sr. 75, of Tucson, died on Friday, July 14, 1995 at St. Joseph's Hospital. He passed away to the Lord, leaving his wife Betty, of 54 years of marriage. He is survived by his sons and spouses, Eddie (Sandy), Ron (Debra), Rick (Johanne) of Los Angeles, CA., Robert (Susan) and Tony (Shelly) of Portland, OR; daughters and spouses, Anne (Steve) Hansen of Bend, OR., and Mary (Mark) Edminster of Homer, AK; seventeen grandchildren; brother, Joe (Rose) Salgado of Tucson. Nando was born in Douglas, AZ., and lived and went to school there. He became a Banker for Mrs. Conrad Kaiser, who eventually owned the Broadway Village Market in Tucson. He served in the Army for three years during WWII. Afterwards, he worked as a Civil Service Banker at Davis Monthan Air Force Base Hospital for 34 years. Nando and his wife Betty Salgado served faithfully as one of the founding community members of St. Joseph's Catholic Community. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Cursillo Community. Family and friends will always remember him for his fun, loving, spiritual example. He was a man of spiritual strength during his last year and a half of serious illness. He showed his love for his family with a cheerful heart to the very end. We will miss him.
