STAEDICKE, Richard H., 37, of Robbin's Butte Wildlife Area, Buckeye, a Game Range Manager for the Arizona Game and Fish, died July 13, 1995. He was born in Chicago, IL, June 23, 1958. In 1962 he and his parents, Guenter and Betty, his brother Eric and sister Jane moved to Norwalk, CT. Two years later his brother Paul was born. It was during these early years he learned to fish, rescued injured birds, had a paper route, and even played the cello in the school band. In 1969 the family moved to Phoenix and Richard was really able to blossom. Although academics were very important to Richard (National Honor Society, Paradise Valley High School), his activities with Boy Scout Troop 426 gave him the most pleasure. His father and brother Eric shared many of his adventures and there were many life-long friendships made. Richard attained Eagle Scout in 1975, and was one of a select group chosen for the Kit Carson program at Philmont Scout Ranch, NM in 1976. He returned as a crew member the next two summers. We almost lost Richard in 1978 when a drunk driver smashed into him and his motorcycle. His helmet and incredible physical condition saved his life at that time, but unfortunately his spleen had to be removed. He was able to recover and went on to Northern Arizona University, was on the Dean's List several times, and received his BS in Aquatic Biology and Chemistry. He worked for the National Fishery Service out of the Gulf of Alaska for one year and then after started working with Arizona Game and Fish out of the Tucson office. He participated as a researcher and co-author of 'Effects of Varied Flow Regimes on Aquatic Resources of Glen and Grand Canyons' for the 1988 Environmental Impact Statement. He was an Honor Cadet when he graduated from the Arizona Law Enforcement Training Academy in June 1987. He had since achieved many more awards and recognitions. His happiness increased when he married Jan Marie Warriner October 6, 1990, and was further blessed with a beautiful and intelligent daughter, Sara Nicole, January 31, 1994. Richard is survived and missed terribly by all mentioned here, as well as family and friends across America and Germany. His death was sudden and unexpected, caused by an infection that could not be fought without his spleen. There will be a memorial service at the First Southern Baptist Church of Buckeye (405 N. 3rd St., 386-5614) on July 20 at 4:00 p.m. to be followed by a tree planting at Robbin's Butte. A college scholarship fund has been set up in Richard's name.
