MARTZ, Louise Reichling, 94, of Tucson, passed away July 28, 1995. Born May 29, 1901 in Whittier, CA. Preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Martz and their son, Bill. Survived by daughter, Betty and son-in-law Roy Quinn of Tucson; granddaughter, Leslie McCormick; grandsons, Richard and Roy, his wife Keen; seven great-grandchildren, Sean, Shea, Kathryn, Meghan, Molly, Kirsten, Carolyn and her dear friend and care giver Martha Perez. Louise was born in Whittier, CA. Louise spent her childhood on her family's English Walnut Ranch. She completed two years at USC, commuting by street car every day until she met her husband. They moved to Tucson in 1935. Mr. and Mrs. Martz celebrated 53 years of marriage. Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 2, at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway, between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. There will be a short service at Brings Chapel at 7:00 p.m. Graveside Services at Rose Hill, Whittier, CA. Mrs. Martz will be laid to rest beside her husband and son. Arrangements by BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL. Nana was very special and will be deeply missed by her family and her many friends.
POLEN, Beatrice, 86, of Tucson, passed away July 14, 1995. Survived by son, Douglas E. (Patricia) Polen of Bellevue, WA; five grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Predeceased by husband, Harry Polen on May 24, 1990. Mrs. Polen had resided in Tucson since 1935. Memorial services Friday 10:00 a.m. EVERGREEN MORTUARY, with Rev. Edward L. Eddy officiating. SCOTT, Ruby A., 79, of Sierra Vista, died July 30, 1995 at her residence. She had been a resident of Arizona for 43 years. Mrs. Scott was born January 9, 1916 in Bloomington, IN to Floyd and Belle (Fleener) Goodman. She and her husband moved to Tucson in 1952 from Indianapolis, IN and they both were employed for Hughes Aircraft. Ruby and Emmett retired in 1974 and traveled throughout the United States. She is survived by her husband, Emmett E. Scott of Sierra Vista; two sons, Dexter Scott of Wilcox, AZ and Stephen Scott of Sierra Vista; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, David E. Scott in 1988. Funeral Services will be later this week at the Allen Funeral Home, 3000 East 3rd Street Bloomington, IN (317) 336-4270. TRAUSCH, Stephen J., 77, of Tucson, passed away July 31, 1995. He is survived by his significant other Barbara Clark; children, Michele Simpson and Stephen M. Trausch; six grandchildren; and six great grandchildren; brother, Kenny; and two sisters, Maryann and Irene. ALPERT, Samuel H., died July 28, 1995 after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. He is survived by his loving wife, Ethyle; step-son, Kenneth Bear of NJ; three grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Natives of Connecticut, he and his wife have been residents of Tucson since 1978. Sam graduated from New York University with a degree in Business Administration and for many years owned a hardware and lumber establishment in White Plains, NY. APPEL, Mary J., 75, died July 30, 1995. Born July 31, 1919. Mass for the burial of the dead will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 2 at St. Pius X Church, 7651 E. Pima, to remember the life of Mary J. Appel. Mary moved from Minnesota to the west coast, where she worked in assembly of aircraft for WWII. After the war she worked for 30 years in the San Francisco Bay area for Pacific Intermountain Express as an accountant. Upon retirement she moved to Tucson where she enjoyed bowling, needlework, travel and participation in St. Pius X. Mary is survived by her twin sister, Martha Lester of Mill Valley, WA; and by seven nieces and nephews. Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 1st at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.
BERNARD, Patricia Ann, 33 years old of Zion, IL., passed away Wednesday, July 26, 1995. She is survived by her mother, Ernestine Wilder of Tucson; father, Lorence Wilder of Tucson; brother, Lorence Wilder Jr. of Tucson; sister, Tresia Sheppard of Air Force Base Luke Field, AZ; and cousin, Wanda Tharp of CA. Patricia lived in Illinois for the past nine years and was employed at the Great Lakes Naval Training Station. She graduated from Pueblo High School. CATCHINGS, Mary K., 85, passed away peacefully at her home on July 28, 1995. Mary was born in Tombstone, AZ., to William 'Pink' Murray and Cora Sayre Murray. Like Tombstone, Mary was 'Too Tough to Die' and fought hard to stay with all those who loved her so very much. She loved her family, the tradition of the southwest and her dogs Pee Wee and Pepper. It is difficult to bid goodbye to her, but we know she finally has the rest she deserves and all those who loved her will try to find comfort in this. She was a gracious lady and a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her sons, James J. Catchings of Tucson, William T. Catchings of Phoenix and her daughters, Patricia Callas and Mrs. Pauline Redondo of Tucson, and Mrs. Stephanie Ford, Mrs. Leota Damiani and Mrs. Joanne Knight of Phoenix. Also surviving her are 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Sweet dreams Mary. We all loved you so much. Visitation will be at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. MCWILLIAMS, Bob B., 69, of Jefferson City, MO, died Thursday, July 27, 1995 at home. He was a longtime resident of Tucson, having first been stationed at Davis-Monthan AFB in the 1950's. He acquired a Bachelor's and Master's degree through the U of A. He was a representative for NCR and later a teacher for TUSD. He is survived by son, Robert C. of Pasadena, CA; daughter, Julie K. (Michael) Hudson of Tucson, daughter, Robin S. McWilliams of Seattle, WA; and grandchildren, Andy and Penny Litten of Tucson. SLOSSER, Paul Jason, M.D., died July 29, 1995 in Tucson, AZ. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Betty; and by three sisters; seven children; and eight grandchildren. Residing in Tucson, his children include, Paul D. Slosser (wife Sally), Jane Slosser, Philip Slosser (wife Robin), Gretchen Slosser, and John Slosser; daughter, Carole Sullivan lives in Yuma; and son, Robin (wife Cindy) in Page. Dr. Slosser's sisters are Virginia Starbuck of FL, Helen Benedict of OH and Elizabeth Gayman of NC. Dr. Slosser graduated from Western Reserve Medical School. His medical career spanned over 35 years and included service in World War II, the Korean War, and in Vietnam as a volunteer civilian physician. Dr. Slosser will be remembered for his passion in the pursuit of knowledge, his sensitivity and compassion for others, his insatiable appetite for travel and adventure, for his fun loving spirit, and for his dedication to his family. Family members request that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the University of Arizona Medical School for cancer research. Private services for family members will be held August 1st.
TATMAN, Leland, 74, died July 28, 1995. Survivors include wife, Marojean of Tucson; son, Donovan (Terry) Tatman of Tucson; sisters, Maybelle Pierce and Joann Roach of London, OH; grandsons, Joshua and Kyle Tatman of Tucson. Mr. and Mrs. Tatman were married January 23, 1942 and have resided in AZ since 1943. He was a bus driver for Greyhound Bus Lines and Citizen Auto Stage for over 40 years. Mr. and Mrs. Tatman were founders and members of the Tucson Messenger Gospel Group in 1968. The group is still together. Mr. Tatman passed away in Vinita, OK., while on tour with the group.
