McCARTHY, Irene W., 73, of Tucson, died August 22, 1995. Survived by husband, William H. of Tucson; son, James E. MINTER, Nedra U. (Jolly), died, August 22, 1995, at a Hospice in Tucson, AZ after a brief illness. Mrs. Minter was born April 21, 1908, near McFall, MO. She taught school at McFall, Pattonsburg, and Faucett, MO before retiring in 1973. She lived in the St. Joseph area for 34 years before moving to Tucson in 1986. On July 3, 1931 she married Eugene K. Minter. He died in 1986. Surviving: one son, Sam of Tucson, AZ and Cameron, MO with his wife Rosemary; a sister, Norma Hamner of Lake Ozark, MO; two grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

NENNINGER, Ruth G., 80, of Tucson, passed away August 21, 1995. Preceded in death by husband, Ricardo Nenninger; sister, Emilia Goycoolea; son, Ricardo Alfredo Nenninger; brothers, Frank and Antonio Goycoolea. Survived by daughters, Maria Del Carmen (Antonio) Felix, Arlene (Frank) Quiroz, Bernadette (Gilbert) Egurola and Maria Antonieta (William) Boushelle; sisters, Alicia Goycoolea, Dolores Chiu and Socorro Morales; brother, Marco Antonio Goycoolea. Also survived by nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren and first cousins, Maria Teresa Rodriguez and Emilia Montano. VILLAESCUSA, Georgia 'Jean', 70, of Tucson, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 20, 1995 after a brave battle with cancer. Preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Arthur. She is survived by her children, Stephen (Monica Castillo), Karen (David Peron), Peter (Susan), Betsy (Bill Wilkening), Paul (Tangie); grandchildren, Jesse, Lisa, Patrick, Jean; brothers, Bolt (Rose) Minister, Rob (Ione) Minister; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Villaescusa was a graduate of the University of Arizona and a charter member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority there. She is remembered as a loving mother, an avid gardener, a person who always put others first, and a loyal Wildcat fan. Mrs. 'V' will be missed by all. A Scripture Service will be held Thursday, August 24, 1995 at 7:00 p.m. at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Rd. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Friday, August 25, 1995 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 215 S. Craycroft Rd. CORNWELL, Janie Marie, 47, of Tucson, died Monday, August 21, 1995. Survived by her husband, Charles E. Cornwell; children, Judy L. (Thomas R., Jr.) Dorame, Charles E. (Tina) Cornwell, Jr.; grandchildren, Denys and Donovan Cornwell; mother, Elberta B. Hammond; sister, Sharon K. (Larry) Loebe, all of Tucson; and many nieces and nephews. HULSE, Duane W. Hulse, 42, died August 20, 1995. Survived by his father and step-mother, Willard and Nora Hulse of Tucson; nephew of Roy Hulse of Palm Springs, CA, Jim Hulse of Tucson and Barbara of Brazil. He was born in Tucson, May 3, 1953. Attend Cholla High School and the owner/operator of Audish Welding. Preceded in death by his mother Mary Ann Audish Hulse. Flying was his passion, fishing his love. Certified commercial pilot in 1993. Flew for the Flying Samaritans and was their Santa Claus in Mexico. He was Wright Flight Pilot of the year in 1994. He escorted parties for viewing whales off the Baja and fishing in Mexico. He never lost his zest for live. He leaves a legacy of friends in many walks of life and we are better for knowing him. A gathering of friends will be held at his parents home on Saturday, August 26, 1995 from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. Arrangements by ABBEY FUNERAL CHAPEL, 3435 N. 1st Ave. (888-1111).

JOHNSON, Fawn B., 77, died August 21, 1995. Mother of Tamara (Garry) Lee of Tucson and Teresa (George) Hollister of Phoenix; grandmother of Gina Fitzpatrick, Shay Hollister and Sean Hollister, daughter of Myrtle Adkins of OK, sister of Fred Adkins of OK. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton F. Johnson. Mrs. Johnson was retired from Catalina High School, after 20 years as a speech and English teacher. Funeral Services 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 24, 1995 at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, with Paul David Sholin D.D. officiating. SHELEY II, Johnny, 38, of Casa Grande, AZ, died Friday, August 18, 1995. Survivors include his wife, Starla and daughter, Nicole of Casa Grande; son, Pvt. John G. Sheley III of Ft.Houston TX; father, John G. Sheley, Sr and step-mother, Almeta Sheley of Tucson. Johnny's blood mother preceded him in death in June 1981. Also survived by sisters, Cynthia Thompson of San Diego, CA, Diane Y. Prussner of Rapid City, SD; brother, Mark Sheley of Alta Loma, CA; and step-brother Jimmie McKee of Amana, IA. Mr. Sheley was an ASE Certified Auto Technician, Stock-car Technician 'pit-man' and also did some driving. Was a `Dodge Dart' advocate, avid golfer, pool player and dart-board challenger. Above all, a loyal devotee to the Dallas Cowboys Football season after season. Friends may call at ADAIR DODGE CHAPEL, 1050 North Dodge Blvd, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 23. SHERMAN, Stanley Stuart Sr., 70, of Barefoot Bay, FL, died on August 21, 1995, at Sebastian River Medical Center, Roseland, FL, following a lengthy illness. Mr. Sherman was born on February 4, 1925 in Syracuse, NY and had been a resident of Barefoot Bay since 1994 moving here from Tucson, AZ. He was a Personnel Director in the Federal Government for 35 years. He was a member of the Methodist faith, a Graduate of Northern Arizona University, Flagstaff, AZ, a Navy Veteran of WWII, and an avid bowler golfer and fisherman. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Dorothy S. Sherman of Barefoot Bay, FL; son, Stanley Sherman, Jr. of Marietta, GA; daughters, Hope A. Benoit and Faith Wagner, both of Tucson, AZ; and six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. The family requests no visitation or service. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, North Indian River Unit, P.O. Box 1749, Sebastian FL., 32978 in memory of Mr. Sherman. Arrangements are under the direction of Strunk Funeral Home, Sebastian.

STAPLETON, Rev. Msgr. James T. Stapleton, retired pastor of Our Lady of the Valley Parish in Green Valley, died Sunday, August 20, 1995 in Green Valley after a long illness. He was 61.
During his 37 years in the Diocese of Tucson, Msgr. Stapleton served in 10 parishes. He also was editor of the diocesan newspaper, 'Arizona Register, ' from 1965 to 1970.
A native of Dublin, Ireland, he attended seminary at St. Patrick's College, Carlow, Ireland, and was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Tucson in 1958.
His assignments included: associate pastor, Sts. Simon and Jude Parish, Phoenix, 1958 to 1963; associate pastor, All Saints Parish, Tucson, 1963 to 1968; associate pastor, Holy Family Parish, Tucson, 1968 to 1969; associate pastor, St. Augustine Cathedral, 1969; associate pastor, St. Monica Parish, Tucson, 1970 and 1980 to 1982; pastor, St. Helen's Parish, Eloy, 1970 to 1973; associate pastor, St. Francis de Sales Parish, Tucson, 1976 to 1977 and 1983 to 1984; pastor, Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, Somerton, 1977; pastor, St. Francis Parish, Superior, 1977 to 1980; associate pastor, SS. Peter and Paul Parish, Tucson, 1982 to 1983.
He became pastor of Our Lady of the Valley Parish in 1984. He retired as pastor in 1995 because of illness.
Other service to the Diocese included advanced studies in Canon Law at the Catholic University of America from 1973 to 1974 in preparation for the position of Vice Officialis of the Marriage Tribunal from 1974 to 1975.
Reception of Body 3:00 p.m. Thursday at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church.
Viewing and Prayer Service 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the Church.
Recitation of the Office of the Dead 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Church.
A vigil and Scripture Rosary 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Church. Closing 9:00 p.m.
The funeral and Mass of the Resurrection 11:00 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, concelebrated by the Most Rev. Manuel D. Moreno, Bishop of Tucson and priests of the Diocese of Tucson.
Interment will be at Holy Hope Cemetery.
Survived by two sisters, Vera O'Connor and Maureen Benton, both of Dublin, Ireland; and five nephews and three nieces.
