COOK, William Charles Sr., 1918 – 1995, 76 years old, died Sunday, June 25, 1995. Native to Arizona, he served in WWII. He was a member of IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) and American Legion. Survivors are daughter, Mary Carmen; daughter, Evangeline 'Peachy' (James P.) Malloy; daughter, Toni (Donald) Sweet; son, Michael (Rosemary); step-daughter, Helen M. (Victor) Aquino; step-son, Richard L. (Sabina) White; sister, Virginia Apodaca; sister, Lillian 'Dugan' Harris, all of Tucson; 13 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by son, William C. Cook, Jr. and daughter, Janice Ann Cook. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 28, 1995 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY, 5401 S. Park Ave. Funeral on Thursday at 9:00 a.m. at St. Augustine Cathedral.
"Our father was a world traveler and his work took him many a wonderful place. He served in WWII in the Army Air Corps 85th Squadron, 79th Fighter Group from 1944 to 1946. He flew most of his missions over Italy. He received the Air and WWII Victory Medals and the American Theater Ribbon, the AEME Theater Ribbon with two bronze stars, and the Distinguished Unit Badge. He prided himself on his service to his country. He worked as an electrical engineer until his semi-retirement in 1982, when he then opened up his own electrical business and continued working until his full retirement in 1989. Our father will be greatly missed and we will miss all the wonderful stories about all his adventures. We love you, Daddy.

JACOBS, Lionel Mark III 'Jake', 74, passed away June 27, 1995. Father of Lionel Mark (Kim) Jacobs IV; grandfather of Phil (Beth) Jacobs and Mark (Martha) Jacobs, all of Tucson. Mr. Jacobs was a third generation Arizonian. He was also a member of, White Mountain Lodge #3 F&AM, Sabbar Shrine Temple, Jerusalem Daylight Lodge #66 F&AM, Scottish Rite and Royal Order of Jesters. Mr. Jacobs retired after 38 years of service with the Southern Pacific Railroad. Masonic Memorial Service 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 30, 1995 at Sabbar Shrine Temple, 450 S. Tucson Blvd. with White Mountain Lodge #3 F&AM and Tucson Masonic Sojourners officiating. JONES, Clyde Thomas, 86, of Tucson, died June 28, 1995. LEATHERWOOD, Helen Louise, 83, born January 29, 1912, passed on June 26, 1995. Dearly loved wife of Allen N. Leatherwood for 53 years. Beloved mother of Lela S. (John) Lesson and Ruth J. Leatherwood; grandmother of Robert D. Hamilton, Kimberly D. Lesson, Michele A. (Jody) Babiash and John A. Lesson; great-grandmother of Craig Hamilton, Dakota and Sierra Babiash, all of Tucson; loved sister of Mary and George Overly of Columbus, OH where she has many other family and friends. Preceded in death by an infant daughter; daughter, Rose B. Hamilton and grand-daughter, Christine L. Hamilton. She was a christian homemaker and role model for her family which gave her great joy and pride. She was a Sunday school teacher, foster mother and a source of inspiration to all. To celebrate her beautiful legacy, visitation will be held Friday, June 30, 1995, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Park Ave. Christian Church, 4635 S. Park. MEHAN, Donald K., of Tucson, passed away June 27, 1995. Survived by wife, Jean; son, Donald Jr. of Dallas, TX; daughter, Meredith (William) Taylor of Manhatten, KS; three grandchildren; sister, Marian Wilson of MA. Don, a retired USAF pilot (WWII), an AAL Grey Eagle, a former member of Exchange Club of North Tucson, and an active member of the Tucson Unit of the American Contract Bridge League. Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 1, at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 750 W. Chapala Dr. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be sent to St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Organ Fund.

SMITH, Orin CPOUSN (Retired), 78 years old, died Tuesday, June 27, 1995 in Tucson. Survived by wife, Eva Smith; son, Stewart Smith, all of Tucson; nephew, Larry (Mary) Jackson of Tucson; many nieces and nephews in PA; sister, Hazel Goodwill of Union City, PA. Mr. Smith was a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association., Military order of Purple Heart, Fleet Reserve Association, Elks Lodge. Funeral Services for Mr. Smith will be held Friday 2:00 p.m. at WOLFREY PEACE CHAPEL, 5225 E. Speedway, 881-0338, with burial to follow in East Lawn Cemetery. BROWN, Joan Rose, 74, of Tucson, died June 25, 1995. Survived by husband, Paul; sons, Theodore (Becky) Coen, Thomas Coen; four grandchildren, Jerry (Cyndi) Ortiz, Michael Coen, Paul Coen, Dana Coen; two great grandchildren, Renae and Cassaundra Ortiz. Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her beloved son, Terrance and daughter, Sandra Coen Ortiz. At the request of Mrs. Brown no services will be held. GEARIN, Russell F. Jr., 45, passed away June 25, 1995. Husband of Kay Gearin; father of Blakey and Erin Gearin, all of Tucson; brother of John (Beth) Gearin of Tucson; nieces, nephews, and other extended members also survive. Funeral Service 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 29, 1995 at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, with Rev. Gordon Vernon officiating. Burial to follow at Our Lady of the Desert Cemetery. GIBSON, James Edgar, 43, entered into rest June 22, 1995. Survived by parents, Johnny and Pearle Gibson; sisters, Sharon Schmieding (Don Grant), Marsha Gibson; brother, Steve (Lucia) Gibson; six nieces and nephews, all of who loved him dearly. Also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Jim was a native Tucsonan and 1969 Tucson High School Graduate. He traveled the world with the U.S. Navy and as a merchant seaman. His kind, gentle, thoughtful nature will be lovingly remembered. Visitation/Memorial Wednesday, June 28, 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at St Philip's in the Hills Church, 4440 N. GRIFFIN, Robert E. Lt. Col. USAF Ret., 75, died June 23, 1995. Survived by his sons, Robert, Reid and Daniel; sister, Frances Wildhagen of TX; brother, Frank Griffin of NY; nieces, Linda and Pamela. Mr. Griffin was a member of the Quiet Birdman Club, Christ Presbyterian Church and a retired USAF WWII pilot. KEMP, Pamela Susan, 43, of Oracle, died June 25, 1995. Born October 4, 1951 in Painsville, OH. Pamela was a wonderful wife to Kenneth E. Kemp of Oracle; and is also survived by father, Bradley G. Brewer of Tucson; brother, Edward C. Brewer of San Diego, CA. Preceded in death by mother, Hayzel Brewer in 1989; and brother Ellis B. Brewer in 1969. Services held Thursday 4:00 p.m. First Baptist Church of Oracle, 1175 N. Appleton Way (American Ave.), Oracle, AZ with Pastor Mark Reeder officiating. LAYCOCK, Rita Jeanette. Services for Rita Jeanette Laycock, 73, of Lufkin, TX will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Rev. Joe Carriere officiating. Eastern Star services will follow under the auspices of the Order of the Eastern Star, Lufkin Chapter No. 382. Mrs. Laycock was born on September 14, 1921, in Medina, OH; and she died on Tuesday, June 27, 1995, in a Lufkin hospital. Mrs. Laycock had been a Registered Nurse for her entire adult life, retiring in 1987. She was a graduate of St. Alexis School of Nursing in Cleveland, OH. Mrs. Laycock served with the U.S. Army Nursing Corps during World War II. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Lufkin Chapter No. 382, of the Daughters of the Nile, of the Ladies Oriental Shrine of Tucson, AZ, and of the Auxiliary of the Military Order of Purple Heart. Mrs. Laycock attended Pollok Baptist Church. A resident of Tucson, AZ for 27 years, she had lived in Lufkin since 1990. Survivors include her husband, J.W. 'Pat' Laycock of Lufkin; daughters and sons-in-laws, Diana and Phil Perkins of Pollok, TX, Beverly and Peter Christensen of El Paso, TX; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Lynda Laycock of Gardnerville, NV; seven grandchildren; sisters, Beatrice Zimmer and Marian Hall, both of Strongsville, OH. Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Crippled Children's Hospital. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, evening at Gipson Funeral Home.

LINDLEY, Ries R. Sr., 79, died June 25, 1995. "Doc" was born December 24, 1915 in Abilene, TX., the son of Chester Major Lindley and Mary Matilda Bowles. He received a doctor of veterinary medicine degree from Texas A and M University in 1944 and worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture for 32 years, spending six years in Mexico with the hoof and mouth eradication program from 1947 to 1953 and 25 years as the port veterinarian in Douglas, AZ. A Tucson resident for three years, Doc is survived by his wife of 58 years, Muriel; sons, Walter (Mary) and Ries, Jr. (Marcia) of Tucson and Richard (Grace Broussard) of Dripping Springs, TX; a brother, Clay Lindley of Annapolis, MD; a sister, Marcia Bean of Elmendorf, TX; seven grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 1, at DESERT ROSE CREMATION and BURIAL, 2750 S. 4th Avenue. He will be interred in Potosi, TX at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association.

MIRABEN, Jane Vancil, of Green Valley, Arizona, and formerly of Bay Village, Ohio and Downers Grove, Illinois died June 26, 1995. A resident of Green Valley for 13 years, Jane was preceded in death by her father and mother, Joe and Isabel Vancil. She is survived by her husband, George; and daughter, Haley; sisters, Ruth Lewsader of Mt. Sterling, IL and Nan Biddle of Naples, FL; sister-in-law, Ellen Williams of Willcox, AZ; a niece, Beth Daniel of Boca Raton, FL; nephews, Kevin Biddle of Ellicott City, MD and George Williams of Willcox, AZ; and mother-in-law, Betty Miraben. Jane graduated from Muskingum College with a Bachelor of Science in Music and majored in voice. She sang with the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus and performed principle roles in The Fantastics, West Side Story, The Sound of Music, and her personal favorite, Brigadoon. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, June 30 at 10:00 a.m. at Valley Presbyterian Church in Green Valley. Remembrances, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the UAF/Arthritis Research Center, the Tucson Symphony Orchestra, or the Valley Presbyterian Church of Green Valley.

OLIVER, Mrs. Ernestine W., 90, of Bluefield, WV., died Tuesday, June 20, 1995. Survivors include her son, W. Frank Oliver Jr. of Tucson.
