BEARD, Jessie C., 83, died March 16, 1995. She was a native Tucsonan, born August 4, 1911, when Arizona was still a territory. Sister of Alice C. Parker; mother of James Bryce Beard; grandmother of William G.L. Beard and Marilyn Annette Beard; great-grandmother of Frank Vito and Ryan Lee, all of Tucson; aunt to many nieces and nephews in AZ., CA., and OR. She was a member of AZ. Chapter #2, Order of the Eastern Star and Charter Member of the White Shrine. Family requests donations be sent to the American Diabetes Association. memorial Services will be held Friday, March 24 at ARIZONA MORTUARY CHAPEL, 7 E. University Blvd., 624-8685.

BOWMAN, Jacquelyne M., age 72 years, died Friday, March 17. Survived by son, William (Alice) Bowman of Tucson; cousins, Margaret and Stephanie Valette of MO. She was a member of the solo group from the Fountain Life Lutheran Church. Also, she was a member of the seniors group at Udall Park. Memorial service is planned for 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 21, 1995 with Pastor Weisheit officiating at Fountain of Life Lutheran Church.

BRITT, Walter, age 83, of Tucson, passed away March 18, 1995. He is survived by his wife, Mittie Britt of Tucson; daughter, Joyce Lewis of MI; and two sisters and one brother. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 23, 1995 at 11:00 a.m. at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY CHAPEL, with Rev. C. Jesse Strong of Prince Chapel A.M.E. Church officiating. Interment will be at South Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday, March 22, 1995 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY, 5401 S. Park Ave.

FLYER, Anna, 94, of Tucson, died March 20, 1995. Preceded in death by husband, Harry Flyer and by daughter, Elaine Goetz. Survived by daughter, Charlotte Delfiner; and brother, Frank Cohan; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. Graveside Services Wednesday, 11:00 a.m. Congregation Anshei Israel Section of Evergreen Cemetery with Rev. Larry Barr officiating. FRIEDLAND, Henry, 71 of Tucson, AZ. Beloved and devoted son, husband, father and grandfather passed away on March 19, 1995 at Tucson Medical Center. Mr. Friedland was born to Max and Rebecca (Yanoff) Friedland in Erie, PA on April 19, 1923. Mr. Friedland served his country while in the service of the U.S. Army during WWII. He took part in the invasion of Anzio, Italy and Southern France as a member of Company L 157th Infantry of the 45th Division, ending his service in the Rohne Valley. Mr. Friedland was the recipient of the Combat Infantry Badge and the Bronze Star. Henry earned his Bachelors degree in Commerce and Finance at Penn State University, eventually returning to Erie, PA to assist in operating a family dry cleaning business. He later became employed by the U.S. Army Armament Munition Chemical Command, transferring from Joliet to Rock Island, IL. Henry retired in 1987 after 21 years of service and since has resided in Tucson, AZ. Mr. Friedland belonged to Congregational Anshei Israel. He was an active member of the Tucson Jewish Community Center, where he served as treasurer of Young at Heart Seniors Organization. He was also an avid Penn State football fan. He was preceded in death by a younger brother, Howard. His memory will be perpetuated by his wife of 41 years, Phyllis; daughter, Sherri Lynn of Tucson; son, Alan Jeffrey of Bettendorf, IA; beloved grandchildren, Michelle Nicole, Hanna Rose, and Ashley Rebecca; sisters, Edithe Cowen of West Palm Beach, FL and Rachel Gettis of Plymouth Meeting, PA. Services will be held Wednesday, 2:00 p.m. at Congregational Anshei Israel with interment to follow at the Anshei Israel Section of Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Congregational Anshei Israel or the Jewish Community Center. Directed by VALLEY FUNERAL HOME, 327-6341.

GRANMO, John Robert (Bob), lost his 30-year battle with M.S. on March 19, 1995. Born on March 14, 1932 in Glendive, Montana to John and Ragna Granmo, Norwegian immigrants, a resident of Tucson since 1970. Survived by Naida, his loving wife of 42 years; sons, Dale (Gail), Jay, and Doug (Veronica); daughters, Laurie Bernard (Steve Vermillion) and Kari (Ray Goudette); grandchildren, Garrett, Brian, Leah, Cody, Jon, Ronnie, Jesus and Rueben; very special care-giver, Maria Elena Gonzales, who gave so much of herself this last year; and many relatives and friends. A celebration of life will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 22, 1995 at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Rd. Remembrances may be made as a donation to the Hospice Family Care Foundation, 3443 E. Ft. Lowell Road, whose caring support upheld his quality of life and gave strength and guidance to us all. Special thanks to Eileen Lawless and Brad Sherman who made his last airplane ride a “Wish Come True’. “YOU ARE FINALLY FREE TO FLY WITH THE EAGLES!’

LAGLE, Marguerite, 96, of Tucson, died March 19, 1995. Survivors include: her loving husband of 73 years, Johnson Lagle; one daughter, Darlene (Ray) Trimble of Sand Springs, OK; one son, Bob (Kate) Lagle of Tucson; four grandchildren, Sharon Younger, Bob Trimble, Scott Lagle, and Susan Mueller; five great-grandchildren, Amanda, Rachael, Stephen, Maggie, and Blake. Marguerite was a long-time active member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in addition to being a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Friends may call at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway), from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 23, 1995. Services will be at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 24, 1995 with Rev. Jack Baca officiating. Arrangements entrusted to ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. TATE, Arthur M., 87, of Tucson, AZ, passed away March 17, 1995. He was born June 24, 1907 in Hanna, IN. He resided in Tucson for the past 22 years. Arthur formerly resided in Berwyn, IL for 30 years and spent his first 35 years in La Porte, IN. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Katherine E. Tate nee Gentry; one sister, Elizabeth (John) Harnsberger of Wichita, KS; two sons, James (Deloris) of Tucson and David (Sharon) of Woodridge, IL; six grandchildren, Deborah (Steven) Miller, Sandra (Michael) Anderson, Jennifer Tate, David (La Donna) Tate, Robert (Janice) Tate and Russell Tate; and two great-grandchildren, Jeffrey Miller and Mitchell Anderson. Preceding him in death were two brothers, Harold and John Allan; and one sister, Harriett Frey. By his own arrangement, he donated his body to the University of Arizona College of Medicine. Remembrances to the National Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or a charity of your choice are preferred to flowers.

TRENT, Jerry, age 79, passed away March 17, 1995. Memorial services will be held at 11:30 a.m. March 25th at Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church, 600 N. Kolb. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Church Memorial Fund.

VANERSTROM, Milton M., 90, of Tucson, died March 19, 1995. Husband of, Agnes C. of Tucson; father of Vivian V. Burrows of Conofer, CO, Milton D. Vanerstrom of Carpio, ND; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; brother of Irene Tarrant of Los Angeles, CA, Emma Nyre of Helena, MT. Mr. and Mrs. Vanerstrom were married for 65 years. Memorial Service will be held at Dove of Peace Lutheran Church, Thursday, March 23, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Wendell Clutz officiating. VAN ORT, David P., D.D.S., Capt., Dental Corps, USNR, Ret., Naval War College, distinguished graduate. 69 of Tucson died Thursday March 16, 1995 in El Paso, TX. Survived by wife, Dr. Suzanne Van Ort of Tucson; brother, Robert L. Van Ort; sisters, Katherine Mary Barron and Dorothy Adams; father-in-law, Dr. Harold Rowe; brother-in-law, Dr. David Rowe and sister-in-law Debbie Hinde; nieces and nephews. CALVILLO, (Fisher) Atala, 91, of Tucson. Passed away March 17, 1995. Preceded in death by husband, Ygnacio P. Calvillo and sons, Henry and Robert Fisher. Survived by daughter, Frances (Norma) Arcenio Valdez; sons, Gilbert (Rosalinda) Fisher, William James (Lydia) Fisher, Oscar (Rosemary) Fisher. Also survived by 19 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 20, 1995 from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at TUCSON MORTUARY, (South Chapel), 240 S. Stone Ave., with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered on Tuesday, 9:00 a.m. at St. Augustine Cathedral. Interment at Holy Hope Cemetery. DAVID, John Robert, 70, of Tucson, passed away on March 17, 1995. Survived by his wife, Nancy; three sons, Gene Michael (Maureen) David of Tucson, Robert Dennis (Wendy) David of GA, Charles William (Kathy) David of AZ; one grandson, Adam Robert David of GA; mother, Florence Hollis of Tucson; sister, Margurette Carmichale of Tucson; uncle, Phillip Brandenburg; three nephews; former spouse, Mickey Fisher of CA. John was preceded in death by his daughter, Roberta David. r . John completed 33 years of government services including 20 years military and finally retiring as a Foreign Service officer. He retired to Tucson his hometown, and was employed by Pima Community College. EVANS, Robert Arthur, M.D., 66, of Tucson, died March 17, 1995. Born in San Francisco, CA. Dr. Evans was a Pioneer in the field of Neuroradiology at Baylor College of Medicine. He also practiced Psychology for 10 years of his career; the last five years in Tucson. He is survived by daughters, MaryJo Burns, Carol Cahn; sons, Arthur T. Evans, M.D., Robert D. Evans, Charles E. Evans, Yonatan A. Evans; and five grandchildren. Graveside Services were held Sunday at 4:00 p.m. Temple Emanu-El Section of Evergreen Cemetery. Arrangements by EVERGREEN MORTUARY and CEMETERY.

GRAHAM, Marjorie Wheelock, 86, died March 17, 1995. Mother of Charles H. Graham and Mary Ann (Lyle) McIff, both of Tucson. Aunt of Marion Wheelock of IA; three grandchildren also survive. HURLEY, Kathleen V. (Woestendiek), born January 23, 1921 in Tacoma, WA, passed away St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 1995, in Tucson, AZ. Kay is often remembered as having been Martha Mitchell’s press secretary during the Watergate period in Washington, DC. An outstanding journalist of numerous awards and achievements, she served as a writer/editor for McGraw-Hill in NY, women’s editor of The Houston Post and managing editor of the Colorado Springs Sun. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Patty Gaston, and granddaughter, Jennifer. During her life she touched many with her inspiration and she will be remembered by her many friends. Memorial arrangements are private. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the Kathleen V. Hurley Scholarship Fund for Journalism. Checks should be made out the the University of Arizona Foundation, designated to the fund.
