NORRIS, Melvin D., 72, of Tucson, went to be with his Lord April 9, 1995. He was born in Excelsior Springs, MO. Mr. Norris served in the U.S. Air Force and was a veteran of WWII and the Korean War. He retired in 1969. In 1971 he opened a successful business, MandM Hydraulics which he sold in 1982. After the sale he retired to spend time with his wife and family which he cared for and loved very much. Survived by wife of, 46 years, Merrijo; son, Steve Norris; daughters, Cindy Hopkins, Katie Lawien and Evelyn Stowell; grandchildren, Grant, Stephanie, Renee, Candi, Heidi, Heather, Melodee, Kristen, and Jeremy; son-in-law, Mark Hopkins; daughter-in-law, Lisa; seven sisters; one brother, and many other relatives and friends survive. Memorial Service 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 14 at Pantano Christian Church, 10355 E. 29th St. with Pastor Tim Coop officiating. Military honors by Davis Monthan AFB Honor Guard. SLANINA, D. Irene, 63, of Tucson, died April 10, 1995. Survived by sons, Hal P. (Trudy) Slanina and Thomas V. Slanina, both of Tucson; mother, Dorothy E. Hunter of Tucson; brother, Robert T. E. Stuart of PA; sister, Judy A. Sanders of Tucson; and four grandchildren. She is predeceased by father, Thomas John Stuart and sister, Alice Vivian Stuart. VALDEZ, Elma G. (Felix), 41, of Tucson, passed away April 10, 1995. Also survived by seven loving nieces and nephews. BLACKMAN, Dora Bacal, a longtime resident of Tucson, born July 16, 1909 in Quebec City, Montreal, Canada, died in Tucson April 9, 1995. Preceded in death by her husband, Harold O. Blackman. Survived by brothers, Charles Bacal, Sidney Bacal; sisters, Helen Bacal Kaufman, Rozlynd Bacal Schwartzman, all of Montreal, Canada, and sister, Sybil Bacal Straker of Los Angeles, CA. METZ, Friedrich (Fred), 84, died Friday, April 7. He was an Arizona resident for 30 years. Mr. Metz was born in Germany. He worked as a farmer and in the mining industry. He enjoyed travel. Survivors include son, Harold of Tucson; daughter, Dora (Pete) Thomas of Phoenix; daughter, Helen (Larry) Morehead of OK; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. VEVERKA, Pauline Mossman, October 15, 1920-April 5, 1995. With regrets Pauline leaves her husband of 51 years, Dr. Eugene Veverka, their three sons, Bruce and Paul of Tucson, and Bryan of Brunswick, MD and grandchildren, Melanie, Adrian and Michael, sister, Ella Mary Thorpe of Gig Harbor, WA. Pauline took an active part in the life of Tucson. She was a member and past president of Tucson Medical Center Auxiliary, a member of the AZ State Geneological Society and a true friend of the U of A Library, a member of St. Alban’s Church and of the Skyline Women’s Club.
