HESS, Michael Ray, son of A. Ray Hess (deceased) and Evelyn Fuller Hess, died Friday, February 10, 1995 in Tucson, AZ. He was born December 10, 1964 in Arvada, CO. He moved with his parents to Eden, UT when he was 12 and received his education in Weber County Schools. He was employed at the Radisson Hotel Health Spa as a representative in Ogden, UT. He moved to Tucson, AZ in 1989 where he worked at various positions in sales marketing. He is survived by his mother of Pleasant View, UT; two sisters, Lynda (DeWaele) Hess of Ogden, UT and Marcia Bushnell of Willard, UT; also his fiancee, Christine Wojak of Tucson, AZ. The funeral, under the direction of Meyers Mortuary, will be conducted by Bishop Brent Christensen of the Eden Ward. Services will be held Saturday, February 18 at 1:00 p.m. at Meyers Mortuary in Ogden, UT. Family will meet with friends prior to the services. Interment in Eden, UT Mountain View Cemetery.
LARVA, Anna, 90, of Tucson, died February 10, 1995. Mrs. Larva and her husband owned and operated a grocery business in Knox, Indiana for 30 years, retiring in 1953 and moved to Tucson. She was a 50 year member of both the Ladies of the Moose and Ladies Auxiliary Fraternal Order of Eagles. Survived by daughter, Marianna E. Corkwell of OH; sons, John Jr. of IN and Joseph E. of CA; four grandchildren and six great-granddaughters. SILCOX, Victor R. “Bud’, Jr., 36, born in Chicago Heights, IL, on September 16, 1958; died in Tucson on February 10, 1995. Survived by mother, and step-father, Dorothy and Gary Nelson of Oro Valley; father and step-mother, Victor Sr. and Belma Silcox of VA; grandparents, John and Bessie Bellis of FL; close friend, Laurie Smith of Tucson; and numerous friends and relatives. Preceded in death by step-brother, Wylie Spears. Victor never gave up hope and maintained his sense of humor throughout his long illness. The family wishes to thank all those who gave him their love and support, especially Mr. Chesebro, his caregiver for the past one and a half years. SPEHN, Bill, 45, died Friday, February 10, 1995, of complications following heart surgery. Born in Chicago on December 17, 1949, the oldest of three brothers. He was a dedicated newspaperman who is described as being the most generous, loving and loyal man that one had the fortune to know. “He was very genuinely concerned about the people who were his friends and family, ’ said Spehn’s youngest brother, Jack of Tampa, FL. He attended Wauconda High School in Wauconda, IL, where his winning personality was a magnet for friends. “When he was young, our house was like an open house for teen-agers, ’ said Spehn’s other brother, Tom of Tucson, AZ. He was drafted into the Army after graduation, served two years in Seoul, South Korea and after his discharge he attended the University of Arizona. Mr. Spehn chose a career in journalism, and served as city editor at the Port Arthur News before going to San Antonio Express-News where he was assistant city editor. According to good friend and golfing buddy, Craig Thomason, “He had a passion for life and he was devoted to making the daily newspaper the best that it could be.’ Brother Tom said the area around Tucson captured his brother’s heart and that he hoped to retire here. His final years of his life were the happiest and this is credited to his wife, Denise. The couple married just two months after their first meeting. She described her husbands greatest passions as “his family, golf, traveling and the University of Arizona Wildcats.’ He is survived by wife, Denise Spehn; brothers, Jack Spehn of Tampa, FL and Tom Spehn of Tucson, AZ, two step-daughters, Kristin Pedersen of Dana Point, CA and Karen Grieser of Phoenix, AZ; two step-granddaughters; a niece and a nephew. Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 17, 1995 at BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway, with burial to follow at East Lawn Palms Cemetery.
THOMAS, Bruce Dean, 40, of Tucson, died February 11, 1995. Survivors include his children, Crystalyn Audra and Kyle Lloyd; parents, Wright (Tex) and Audrey Thomas; sister, Brenda K. (Tom) Harford; nephews, Bryan and Kevin Harford; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Bruce was employed by Southern Pacific since January, 1973 where he was a signal technician. He was local chairman for the Brotherhood of R.R. Signalman, Local #126. He was a generous person and loved his children dearly. He also had great love for music, piano and photography. WELLS, Bertrand Lester, Jr., 81, of Glendale, AZ, died February 12, 1995 in Phoenix, AZ. Born in Pilot Grove, MO; served in the U.S. Navy; moved to Arizona in 1956 from Missouri and retired in 1978 as sales manager after 20 years of service with Bairds Bread Co. MAGRUDER, Delores R., 92, wife of deceased Arthur J. Magruder, died Friday, February 10, 1995 at the home of her niece in Mauston, WI. She was born June 22, 1902 in Kokomo, IN to Clyde and Lilly Remy. She was preceded in death by husband, parents, and a sister. She is survived by her nephew, Billy Joe Hoover of San Jose, CA; niece, Barbara J. Accardo of Mauston, WI. Delores enjoyed much of her life in Tucson and traveled to many interesting places with her husband “Mac’ Magruder. She had many fond memories in Tucson with many friends. Her surviving family members dearly loved her and will all miss her.
