VANIER, June Day (Bell). When from vent windows, known as wind wings, were the latest in automobile accessories, June Day Vanier was one of Detroit’s most popular models – a welcome addition to any showroom floor. She modeled for Ford Motor Co. and General Motors. And when she wasn’t turning heads as the original “Wind Wing Girl, ’ you could find her in ads for Greyhound Lines or modeling the dresses of leading designers. Vanier, who also was a former radio and theater actress and prize-winning horsewoman, died February 15, 1995 in her Point Loma home after a long illness. She was 83. In the 1930s, in her native Michigan, Mrs. Vanier acted in the radio productions “Dr. Fu Manchu’ and “Tricks in All Trades.’ As a horsewoman, she won horse-jumping and fox-hunting competitions. During World War II, she drove for the Red Cross. Before settling in San Diego 20 years ago, Mrs. Vanier coordinated a statewide hospital volunteer program in Arizona, where she had lived with her first husband, the late Donald Bell, a former mayor of Birmingham, Mich. She continued her community service in San Diego as a Pink Lady with the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary. She was knighted as a Lady of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem and belonged to San Diego Country Club, De Anza Country Club, and San Diego Yacht Club. Survivors include her husband, Kieran; a daughter, Kathleen Aughey, of Rochester, N.Y.; a son, Tom Bell, of Tucson; two stepchildren, Denis Vanier and Annette Fritzenkotter, both of San Diego; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Viewing was scheduled from noon to 8:00 p.m. February 17, at Merkley-Mitchell Mortuary. A funeral Mass was scheduled for 9:30 a.m. February 18, at Old Mission San Diego de Alcala. CARR, Antoinette, died February 22, 1995 in her 94th year. A Tucson resident for the past three years. HENDERSON, Howard Gentry, a resident of Tucson for the past 15 years, died February 21, 1995 after waging a valiant battle against cancer. Born in Ft. Collins, CO September 16, 1919 to William James Pickney Henderson and Myrtle Gentry Henderson. Mr. Henderson was a graduate of Ft. Collins High School and Plastic Trade School at Colorado State University. He worked as a machinist on B17's at Cheyenne, WY during WWII and as a tool and die maker with various companies. He operated his own die casting business for a number of years before joining the IBM Plant in Boulder, CO as a plastic manufacturing engineer. Mr. Henderson was transferred to the Tucson IBM Plant during 1980 where he continued to work as a plastics manufacturing engineer until his retirement in 1988. Mr. Henderson was an active member of the New Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church and a volunteer worker at St. Joseph’s Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Adele Lucille Miller Henderson with whom they celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary on July 20, 1990; four children, DeVere Henderson of Washington, DC, Phyllis Henderson of Denver, CO, Donald A. Henderson of Seattle, WA and Stephen L. Henderson of Phoenix, AZ; and seven grandchildren. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 25 at BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL with Rev. JACKSON, Wilma, age 61, of Tucson, passed away February 17, 1995. She is survived by her husband, Henry S. KONYN, Jonathon Daniel, of Rio Rico, AZ, February 25, 1972 to February 21, 1995. Born in Cudahy, WI February 25, 1972. He moved to Marinette, WI in October, 1972. Jon lived in Iron River, MI from February, 1974 to August, 1984. He was a member of St. Agnes Church, an altar boy and Boy Scout Troop 507. He moved with his family to Rio Rico, AZ in 1984. He was a U. S. Customs Explorer and a volunteer firefighter and EMT with the Tubac Fire Department. He was voted Volunteer Firefighter of the year in 1990. Jon founded the Not-A-Drop Foundation and graduated from Nogales High School with the Class of 1990. Jon attended Northern Arizona University for two years. He was a supervisor for Pace Warehouse until his illness in January, 1993. Jon enjoyed fishing, hunting and softball. Jon was a model of courage and optimism during his extended illness. Jon died peacefully in his sleep on February 21, 1995. He is survived by his parents, Dan and Sharon; his brother, Matthew; sister, Kristyn Brandenburg; his fiancee, Stacia Frantom; and many relatives in Wisconsin and Michigan. LOPEZ, Raul, 75, of Tucson, passed away February 21, 1995. Preceded in death by wife, Isabel V. Lopez and brother, Severo Lopez. Survived by daughter, Angie V. Lopez; son, Raul V. Mr. Lopez was a veteran of WWII. He was employed by the Southern Pacific Railroad for many years.
