HAWKINS, Paul Edward, 68, died Monday, December 12, 1994 in Tucson, Az of cancer. He was born December 2, 1926 in Salt Lake City, UT to Claud Fenton and Alice Hanks Hawkins. He married Joye Strange of Murray, UT and they are the parents of Claude T. Hawkins, Tucson, AZ, Robbie Rae Gittins, Ogden, UT and Gregory P. Hawkins, Salt Lake City. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved learning. He graduated from Provo High School and received his B.S. Degree in advertising from the University of Utah in 1951. Her was an Assistant Professor at the University of Hawaii in Air Science. He loved his country. Major Hawkins was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Occupation Medal, World War II Victory Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Reserve Service Medal and the Bronze Star Medal which was awarded for meritorious service as Civic Actions Officer, Headquarters 633rd Combat Support Group, in the Republic of Vietnam while serving with friendly foreign forces. During this period, Major Hawkins’ superior management ability and personal courage furthered the Air Force mission in Southeast Asia. His leadership of the civic action program helped cement relations between the American people and the Vietnamese people. His exemplary leadership, personal endeavor, and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force. He loved scouting. He spent many years working with the Boy Scouts of America. First as the United States Air Force Liaison Officer and then after his retirement from the Air Force. as a Professional Scouter. He loved to fix things. He could fix anything that was broken and he created great works of art for all he loved. He loved his grandchildren, Heidi, Gretchen, Krissy, Laura, Alice, Charity, John, Rachel, Samantha, Michel, Mary, Grace, James and Joseph. He is survived by his wife, Joye; their three children; 14 grandchildren; his brother, Robert Hawkins, Sandy, UT; and his sister, Dottie Sayre, Bountiful, Ut. Funeral Services will be held Monday, December 19th at 6:30 p.m. in the Riverton 6th Ward, 4500 West 12600 South, where friends may call from 5:00 to 6:15 p.m. Interment Utah Veterans Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the National Rescue Committee, 530 East 500 South, Suite 207, SLC, Utah, 84102. “Thanks Dad, for always being there.’

PARADOWSKI, Joseph C., 73, died December 15, 1994. Husband of Elizabeth Paradowski of Tucson; father of Rose Maxwell of KY, Lynne Fernandez of MI, Carl Paradowski of MI, Joseph Paradowski of MI, James Paradowski of Japan, Lisa Nichols of Tucson, and Christopher Paradowski of Tucson; 17 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral Service 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 20, 1994 at BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, with Father Tamminga officiating. RICE, Jeffrey Michael, 30, died December 16, 1994. Husband of Barbara Rice of Tucson; father of Jennifer Ann Rice of Tucson; son of Thomas and Katherine Rice of Tucson; brother of Skip Rice of San Diego and Troy Rice of Tucson; grandson of Mary and Socrates Stevens of MI, Ernest Superko of Tucson; son-in-law of Jim and Lynn McKenney of Tucson; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and numerous friends also survive. THOMPSON, Esta Mary (Pailliotet), of Tucson, passed away December 15, 1994. Born July 16, 1924 in Riverside, IA. She was 70 years of age. She was survived by her husband, Richard, of 43 years; children, Constance, Theodore, Mark, Mary, Richard, Barbara, James, Joseph, and Catherine; brothers, Louis, John, Paul, and Richard; sister, Constance Pailliotet C. H. M.; her seven grandchildren and many friends. Esta was a registered nurse and a member of the “Ladies Guild’ of “Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church’. Visitation will be held at BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway from 1:00 to 4:00 p. m. Sunday, December 18, with a Rosary at 3:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church at 5:30 p.m. Monday, December 19. Interment Tuesday, December 20, 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Desert Cemetery. Mass Stipends are being accepted in lieu of flowers. Arrangements by BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

WAITE, Eugene A. 65, of Tucson, died December 15, 1994. Husband of Jeneva M.; father of Leanna M. Waite, and Jack C. Cappelli, Thomas E. Waite, Dorothy R. Waite, Darrell E. (Dawn) Waite; seven grandchildren, all of Tucson; brother of Janet Burnet of Tulsa, OK. VEJAR, Celia G., 74, of Tucson, passed away December 13, 1994. Beloved mother of Alice V. Gallardo, Mary Brewer, Cleo (Hugo) Castro, Sally (Bruce) Warman, Gloria Romero, Lydia (Joe) Martinez, Virginia (Robert) Vega, Frances (Reyes) Ramirez, Daniel (Jacqui) Pena, and Joe Palomino; also survived by 21 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. WILEY, Elizabeth U. “Betty’, 70, of Wilcox, AZ, died December 11, 1994. Preceded in death by her husband, Wallace T. Wiley in 1976. Elizabeth was born in Tonkawa, OK on October 4, 1924. She graduated from Tucson High School and attended the University of AZ. She was a member of the Emblem Club and had been very active in V.F.W. POST #4903 while her husband was still alive. She is survived by daughters, Eileen Snook, Phoenix, AZ, and Terri Wiley Davidson, San Diego, CA; son, Bruce Wiley, Tucson, AZ; sister, Patricia Tolley, Tucson, AZ; Grandchildren, Dawna Kenn, Sherri Van Zant, Garrett Snook, all of Phoenix, AZ; four great-grandchildren. Memorial celebration at Wilcox Elks Lodge on Thursday, December 15, 1994, 11:00 a.m. Burial private internment at Sunset Cemetery. Contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society. CHANDLER, Robert Lee, 71, died December 14, 1994, born in Woodward, OK, homesteaded in Salome, AZ. Graduated from Parker High School. Survived by his wife, Dee Chandler; sons, Stephen Douglas Chandler and David Praeger Chandler; daughters, Danna Lee Fisher, Cindy C. Chandler; son-in-law, Tom Fisher; grandchildren, Deana Hutton, Cullen Fisher, Jessica, Stephanie, Margie and Bobby Chandler; brother, S. Thomas Chandler, also survived by many nieces and nephews. Mr. Chandler was Plant Manager of Square D Corporation, President of Avis Industrial, Chairman of the Board of Krueger Manufacturing, owned Westward Realty Incorporated. In lieu of flowers family request donations be made on behalf of Robert Chandler to the Dannie Lee Chandler Scholarship Fund, University of Arizona Law School. There will be no funeral services. The family will hold an open house at his home on Saturday December 17th from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Robert was beloved by all.

ERICKSON, Gladys Julyn, a Tucson resident since 1969, passed away December 10, 1994 in Tucson at the age of 84. Born August 17, 1910 in Benson, MN She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Erickson. Survived by her daughter, Lorna Geraghty of Tucson; son, Jim Erickson of Scottsdale; granddaughters, Debi Gustafson and Jill Geraghty of Tucson, Donna Gustafson of MN, Leanne Rosato, Kris Rios and Veronica Erickson of TX; five great-grandchildren. HITCHMAN, Robert T., 76, of Kennewick, WA, formerly of Tucson, passed away December 15, 1994. Survived by wife, Esther of WA; sons, Alec E. (Louise) Hitchman of WA, Steve R. (Suzi) Hitchman of Tucson; daughter, Cheryll (George) Weigand of El Cajon, CA; sisters, Jane Hamaker of CO, Ann Campbell of NE; six grandchildren and one great-grandson. Robert was a mechanic for the City of Tucson for 12 years prior to retiring in 1980. Memorial Services 2:00 p.m., Saturday, at Casas Adobes Baptist Church with Rev. MOELLER, Mildred Lucille, 88, died December 14, 1994. ZWERG, Mary R., 88 of Tucson and formerly of Appleton, Wisconsin, died December 14, 1994 at Desert Life Healthcare Center. She was born August 13, 1906 at Shell Lake, Wisconsin, a daughter of Charles and Emma Galbreath Gregory. She graduated from Lawrence University in Appleton in 1928 and taught high school English in Mosinee, Wisconsin, for four years. On July 7, 1932, she married Dr. Alvin W. Zwerg, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Zwerg was a member of the D.A.R., Eastern Star, the Lions Auxiliary, the Wednesday Club, Reading Club, and the First Congregational, U.C.C. Church of Appleton. Survivors include two sons, Charles A. and his wife Lynne of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, and James W. and his wife Carrie of Tucson, six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Private family services will be held at a later date. Memorials in her name may be directed to Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin.

PENGELLY, Elma V., 81, of Mesa, AZ died December 10, 1994. Born in Douglas, AZ. Survived by son, Owen Pengelly; brother, Louis Pope of Douglas, AZ; two grandchildren. SALWEN, Leonard, 68, died December 10, 1994. Survived by best friend and wife, Ruth; father of Andrea (Jim) Gillis of Tucson, Valerie Salwen of NY, Kenin (Joan) Salwen of GA, Richard (Maureen) Fogel of NY, and Alan (Eileen) Fogel of NJ; ten grandchildren also survive.
