KENNELLY, Roy William, 56, of Tucson, AZ and Lynnwood, WA, passed away December 18, 1994. He is survived by his beloved wife Janice; two children, Debora and William of Seattle; mother, Julia of Bellevue; sister, Diana Lee Lucker of Minneapolis; and one grandson Matthew. Roy attended Montana State, Seattle University and Julliard of New York. He has a Masters Degree in music. His love for music helped him accomplish his goals of having a music business for the past 30 years. He touched the lives of many people and will be missed greatly. Memorial Services were held in Tucson on December 21, 1994 at 2:00 p.m. Mt. LURVEY, Lois Ellen, passed away December 19, 1994 in Tucson at the age of 67. Lois was born in Lorain, Ohio on April 20, 1927. She attended Lorain public schools and graduated from Lorain High School. She worked as a long-distance telephone operator in Lorain and Elyria for many years. She moved to Tucson in 1967. Included among her many activities was her tenure as president of the Elks Ladies Auxiliary 1978-1980. She was an avid bridge player. She also loved spending time with her family, reading, and traveling. She will be remembered by family and friends for her intelligence and wit. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Survived by sons, Forrest Wonderly Jr., Thomas (Teresa) J. Mitchell; daughters; Barbara (Carl) Martin and Nancy (John) Balcik; brother, James (Margaret) Gallagher; brother in law, Paul (Betty) Mitchell; grandchildren, Christopher, Barbara, and Brenden Balcik, David and Jennifer Martin, Justen, Megan, and Kelly Mitchell. NEATHERY, Jesse L., 74, of Tucson, died December 21, 1994. Survived by wife, Sally A. Neathery of Tucson; son, Van D. Neathery of IL; daughter, Sue Schenberger of Tucson; four grandchildren including V. Douglas Neathery of MN; brother, William Neathery of Mesa; sister, Henrietta Roberts of IL. Mr. Neathery was co-founder of Alpha Air, Inc., Adjunct Faculty at Pima College for 15 years where he taught aviation; former traffic engineer for City of Tucson, retiring 1983. Formerly Mr. Neathery was a pilot for Colorado Rocky Mountain Airway and during WWII he served in the South Pacific as a member of the Black Sheep Squadron. Later he served in the Air Force retiring 1964. Mr. Neathery was a charter member of El Sabbar Temple Shrine, Tucson. Memorial Services will be Friday, 2:30 p.m. EVERGREEN MORTUARY, with Rev. PHINNEY, Flossie E., 73, died Tuesday, December 20, 1994. Survived by her husband, Lucien B. Phinney; sons, William R. and John R. Phinney; granddaughter, Traci; and grandson, Shawn Phinney, all of Tucson. Other survivors include two brothers, nieces and nephews living in other states. Memorial Services for Mrs. Phinney will be held in the sanctuary of First Congregational Church (824 North Second Avenue) at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 28th. RONSTADT, Sally Ewing, Formally Sarah Elizabeth Ewing, of Casitas Del Rio in Tucson, AZ., formally of Decatur, IL., died December 20, 1994. She was born January 4, 1911 to Charles A. Ewing and Idelle Kerrick Ewing of Powers Lane, in Decatur,IL. Sally attended Mt. Vernon Seminary in Washington, D.C. and attended the University of Arizona where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. In 1935 she married Tucsonan William Edward Ronstadt who preceded her on April 15, 1990, after 55 years of marriage. She will be fondly remembered for her kindness and graciousness by her many friends in Arizona, Illinois, Tennessee, and the Washington D.C. area. In her great generosity she supported Morris Dees’ Southern Poverty Law, The American Cancer Society, Alzheimers Disease Foundation, Casa De Los Ninos Crisis Nursery (Tucson) and established a scholarship fund at Columbia State Community College. She is survived by her sister, Mary Ewing Henderson of Tucson; daughter, Elisa Ronstadt Elliot of San Francisco and her children Jeanne and Thomas; a son William Ewing Ronstadt (Elizabeth) of Tucson and their children Matthew and Natalia. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and caring friend. Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on December 22, 1994 at the Greenwood Cemetery, Dacatur, IL. SMITH, H.E., formerly of Pitts, Georgia, passed away Tuesday. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a WWII Army Veteran. Survivors include, three children; and 11 grandchildren. There will be a private Memorial Service at the home of his daughter.
COREY, Joseph, 75, of Tucson, died December 14, 1994. Survived by, Ann his wife of 46 years; his son Barry; daughter, Gael; former daughter-in-law, Kathy; grandchildren, David, Pamela, Christopher and Jonathan; as well as many friends. Mr. Corey was a longtime lawyer who practiced in Colorado, and subsequently prosecuted in the organized crime division of the U.S. Department of Justice. He loved the law. Ronald of San Jose; son, William Melena; and brother, James Campbell, both of Minnesota. Charlene was born in Duluth, MN and was a receptionist for over 30 years. She was most recently employed by S-Mos Systems in CA and loved by all who met her. She met and married her husband here in Tucson 19 years ago while she was an employee with Burr Brown Corp. HICKS, Lou’l, 79, of Tucson, passed away on December 18, 1994. She is survived by her beloved husband, Jack of Tucson; her son, Dr. Jim Hicks of Phoenix; and her two grandchildren, Tracy and Lee Hicks of Phoenix. She was a loving and unselfish wife, mother and grandmother who touched the lives of many people. She will be missed greatly. HIGGINS, John Miles, 61, died December 19, 1994. Father of Jay (Ruth) Higgins and Karen Higgins; grandfather of Jorden Higgins. Mr. Higgins was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, was employed at Mountain Bell for 18 years and then later as a Communications Engineer for the U.S. Army where he served in “Operation Restore Hope’ in Somalia. HOWAYECK, Thomas M., 74, died Saturday, December 17, 1994 in Tucson, Arizona of a recent illness. He was born March 21, 1920 in Fall River, MA to Lown and Hasaba Howayeck of Providence, RI. He married Ann Mendes of Somerset, MA. He received his education in Providence, RI, he was in partnership in the real estate business and a travel agent in Tucson. He served his country in WWII and received a Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign medal. He is survived by his beloved wife, Ann; his sons, Tom Jr. of Tucson, James of Orange Park, FL, Kenneth of Oahu, Hawaii; his daughters, Rosen Panucci of Newport, RI, Ann Gladding of Oahu, Hawaii, Janice Maraziti of Newport, RI and June Farrera of Denver, CO; a sister, Mrs. Sam Howard of Greenville, SC; and a brother, Hanie Howayeck of Cranston, RI. Mr. and Mrs. Howayeck were fortunate to have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. He loved his grandchildren, John, Kim, Heidi, Tracy, Wendy, Amy, Ben, Michele, Jule, Jennifer, Trina, Danielle, Jessica, Vanessa, Felix, Hunter and Ross; his great-grandchildren, Jason, Patrick, Kyle, Kendra, Valerie and Madison. He was a member of the Massachusetts Club of Tucson, the Lebanon Club and a former member of the Lion’s Club. HYDE, Margaret E., born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on June 9, 1930, died Monday, December 19, 1994 in Tucson. She was preceded in death by Mary Rose Truter, her lifelong friend, with whom she resided. Margaret graduated from Mt. Mercy Academy and took nurses’ training at Mercy Hospital, both in Pittsburgh. She took advanced training to become a Certified Nurse Anethetist. Early in her career, she served at Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh and St. Christopher’s Children’s Hospital in Philadelphia. After moving to Tucson in 1965 with her friend, Dr. Mary Rose Truter, she was instrumental in starting the Post Anesthetic Care Unit at University Medical Center, where she was nurse manager until her retirement 10 years later. KAZDA, Frank J., 82, of Riverside, IL and Green Valley, AZ, died peacefully in Tucson, AZ, on December 17, 1994. Frank was the beloved husband, of Dorothy; the deeply loved father of Tom (LaVetta), Peg, Jim, and Mary Ellen (Frank Pierson); and grandfather to Frank (Kim) and Jo Ellen (Blu). He was a loving brother of Clara Schuller (Ray); and life long friend and brother-in-law of Harold J. Verdak. Frank was a member of St. Mary’s Parish in Riverside and Our Lady of The Valley in Green Valley, Riverside Golf Club, BPO Elks, Country Club of Green Valley, and Chicago Majestic Ice Skating Club. His life’s work was with Admiral Corporation (Vice President). His life’s joy was with his family and friends. Remembrances may be made to Our Lady of the Valley Parish or the Parkinson’s Foundation.
