DALRYMPLE, Frankie W., born September 4, 1913 in Hackley, LA, moved to Arizona in 1919. Attended Tucson High and the University of Arizona. Was preceded in death by husband, William (Hack) Dalrymple. DAVIS, Bettie S., 73, of Tucson, passed away October 27, 1994. She is survived by children, Ferril M. Davis and his wife Angeline of Tucson, Dorothy G. and her husband, Dan Ard of Tacoma, WA, Carol A. and her husband, Archie Holt of Dallas; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Mildred and her husband, Bob Gholson; brother, Fred R. and his wife Sharon Sprung. A Memorial Service was held 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 31, 1994 at Calvary Chapel of Tucson with Rev. Jerry Hagelin officiating. Mrs. Davis was a member of the Eastern Star. FEATHER, Robert Leslie, 68, of Silver City, New Mexico, died Sunday, October 30, 1994 in Tucson after an extended illness. Mr Feather was born in 1926 in Artesia, NM, son of Landis B. and Mary Sue Feather. He was a graduate of Artesia High School and entered the Navy V-12 Program at the University of New Mexico during WWII. Following the war, he received a Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of NM and for a period was an independent building contractor in Albuquerque. He joined the U. S. Forest Service as an Engineer in 1948 and was stationed in several areas of Arizona and New Mexico. He left the Forest Service in the early 1960's to establish a private engineering firm in Safford, AZ. He returned to Forest Service in 1966 as an Engineer in the Gila National Forest. He retired from Forest Service in 1986 and lived in Tucson for several years before moving to Silver City in 1990. In recent years, he was employed with Troutman Engineering in Silver City. Survivors include a sister, Shirley Whittemore of Penbroke, NH; two brothers, Landis E. Feather of Hermitage, PA and Bill Feather of Santa Fe, NM; former wife, Jay Pinkerton and her daughter, Michele Vasey of Tucson, several nieces, nephews, and other family members. FERRINI, Golda N., died October 29, 1994. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, of Jewish-Russian immigrant parents who together with nine other immigrant families started a farming commune in Wyoming. This community became known as the Jewish Bean Boys. Since Jews were not allowed to own land in Russia, working on the land and earning one’s living through the sweat of one’s brow, resulted in a spiritually liberating experience that only pioneers in a strange land can experience. Golda’s early childhood experiences with nature gave her a continuing and undying passion for growing and nurturing living things. She attended the Jewish University in NY where she qualified as a teacher in the culture and language of the Jewish Folk. She later became interested in a variety of liberal causes, devoting many years of her life to the trade union movement. Although steeped in her ethnic roots, she preferred to be considered a citizen of the world. A member of the Unitarian Church for the past 35 years, she liked to refer to herself, in the words of George Bernard Shaw, as a Vitalist. Although not actively involved in social issues during the past 10 years, she was always ready to support local and national issued dealing with peace, racial equality, conservation of natural resources and the Arts. She is survived by her sons, Paul J. Ferrini, residing in Sante Fe, NM and Henry N. Ferrini, residing in Gloucester, MA and large and loving extended family. GLADDEN, Waymon C., 85 years, of Marana, died Saturday, October 29, 1994. Mr. Gladden was a pioneer farmer of Marana area since 1922. He was preceded in death by Cleone, his wife of 60 years. Preceding him also were his three brothers, Luther of Casa Grande, Dale of Marana, Potter of Arkansas; and three sisters, Eunice Baker, Lelia Clark, Ruby Coleman, all of Tucson. He is survived by his six children, Howard of Tonto Basin, AZ, Danny (Barbara) of Maricopa, Steve (Sue) of Glendale, Ivadell (Jack) White of Marana, Phil (Sandra) of Marana, Cynthia Garrett of Lancaster, Ohio; 18 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 2 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY. Services will be Thursday, November 3, 11:00 a.m. at South Lawn Mortuary Cemetery.
KELLY, Jason Warren, 10, of 3630 36th Ave. N.E., Rochester, MN, died Saturday evening, October 29, 1994 at his home of heart failure after a five month illness. Born October 21, 1984 in Tucson, AZ to Jim and Erika Kelly. SLATER, Mabel Leota, born November 13, 1899, Concordia, Kansas, passed away October 26, 1994 in Tucson. Preceded in death by her three children, LeRoy Goodwin, Leota Goodwin Slaughter, and Randy Goodwin; two brothers, Clifford Ward, Albert Ward; and two sisters, Sarah Bible and Annie Pack. FRANCIS, John James, 80, of Tucson, died October 31, 1994. Survived by wife of 43 years, Alice; son, Fred (Nikki) Francis; grandchildren, John and Melinda; twin sister, Helen Rogers of El Paso, TX; many cousins in Jacksonville and St. Augustine, FL. Mr. Francis was a longtime resident of Tucson, where he was employed as an Assistant Chief Train Dispatcher for the Southern Pacific Railroad. He was a member of Five Points Lodge #1137 – AF and AM in El Paso, TX for 54 years. He was also a member of the National Association of Retired and Veterans Railway employees and the Arizona Historical Society. GREGORY, Sue Seeley, 100, a resident of Tucson for many years, died October 31, 1994. Susie was born in Taylorsville, KY November 12, 1893. Her husband, Walter L. Gregory passed away in 1965. The Gregory’s lived in Chicago where he was the General Manager of the Palmer House prior to their retirement in Tucson. She is survived by nephews, Richard (Johnna) Chaney and David Chaney; nieces, Ellen (Richard) Lynch and Georgiana Chaney, all of CA; and cousin, Permelia Black of Louisville, KY. Susie was an accomplished illustrator and portrait painter. She was a member of the U of A Presidents Club and a member of the Colonial Dames. She will be missed by many friends and family. HOEHN, Rita A., 79, of Sierra Vista, died Saturday, October 29, 1994 at Hillhaven Health Care and Rehab Center. She had been a resident of Tucson for the past 40 years. Mrs. Hoehn was born October 5, 1914 in Rochester, NY to Edward and Celia (Weisner) Rehberg. She worked as a nurse at Tucson Medical Center for many years. Mrs. Hoehn is survived by her husband, Stuart Hoehn of Huachuca City; son, Tom Hoehn of Albuquerque, NM; daughter, Jeannie Hayhurst of Tucson, AZ; two sisters; and two brothers, all of Rochester, NY; and five grandchildren. KING, Thomas Bertram, 89, of Tucson, died October 31, 1994. Survived by spouse of 60 years, Eleanor A. (Dody) King; children, Bertram A. King of Tucson, Thomas F. King of Livonia, MI, Eleanor A. Baker of Libertytown, MD and the respective spouses; nine grandchildren and their respective spouses; and four great-granddaughters. A Navy Veteran of 28 months in the North Atlantic during WWII. Mr. King was the architect of the Veterans Home Loan Program and served as its first director receiving the Veterans Administration Exceptional Service Award. An attorney in Washington DC for many years, he was counsel for the United States Savings and Loan League prior to his retirement. Mr. King is a member of the National Housing Hall of Fame.
