FRYE, William Henry, born August 17, 1932 in New Orleans, Louisiana passed away Wednesday, October 19, 1994. He was a resident of Tucson, Arizona since 1976. Preceded in death by mother, Julian Berson Frye and father, Jess Raymond Frye. He is survived by his brother, R. Berson Frye; and sister-in-law, Ginger Frye; and nephew, Berson Frye Jr. of Fresno, CA; and niece, Gay Frye of Phoenix, AZ. Bill will be missed by many good friends including Daniel Davenport. Bill was a graduate of Southwestern University, Memphis, TN. He was a long term Real Estate Agent in Tucson and was a tireless volunteer with T.A.P., P.A.C.T, and Gateway. GRAY, Harriet G., age 83, died in Tucson, Arizona, October 18, 1994. Mrs. Gray was preceded in death by her first husband, Captain A. Guthrie, U. S. Navy, and second husband the Rev. John A. (Jack) Gray, former rector of St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, Wilson, North Carolina. She is survived by sons, Richard G. Guthrie (Patricia Dunford) of Tucson and John T. Guthrie (Linda) of Amarillo, Texas; step-daughter, Alice Dale Gray of Port Orchard, WA and stepson, John Trent Gray of Zurich, Switzerland; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Born August 6, 1911, near Farmville, Virginia and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, Mrs. Gray lived in Phoenix from 1945 to 1961. She and Mr. Gray retired to Prescott in 1978. After his death she moved to Peoria where she remained until last spring when she moved to Tucson. Memorial Services will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, November 3 at St. Philip’s in the Hills Episcopal Church, 4440 N. Campbell, Tucson, the Rev. Paul Buckwalter officiating. LABAYEN, Joyce, born in Chicago, IL on July 13, 1926 to the Union of Jean Marie Moutoussamy and Julia Walker Moutoussamy. She was baptized at Saint Elizabeth’s Catholic Church. She graduated from Fenger High School on the south side of Chicago in 1944 and retired in 1982; after spending 12 years with the postal service and 20 years with the Veteran’s Administration/Finance and Adjudication Divisions. After retirement she moved to Tucson, AZ with her devoted husband, Vincent D. Labayen; where she formed Labayen and Company, a real estate brokerage firm. Joyce was active in the Minx Social Club of Chicago, The Tucson Golf and Variety Club, and Las Vecinos. She volunteered her time at the VA Medical Center using her expertise and knowledge gained from having served on the V.A. Rating Board in various capacities. Joyce’s oldest sister, Veronica, preceded her in death. Joyce leaves to mourn her passing, her loving and most devoted husband, Vince; two daughters, Joyce Renfroe Davis and Annette Labayen Tackett; a sister, Bernadette Harris; a brother, John Moutoussamy; one son-in-law, James; two grandchildren, Lisa Marie and Theodore Williams IV; two great-grandchildren, Sean and Michael Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. LAUTNER, Mildred B. “Billie’, `passed on’ peacefully at home on Saturday, October 15, 1994. Survived by granddaughter and her husband, grandson and two great-granddaughters. Mrs. Lautner was a graduate of the University of Michigan and traveled extensively. Billie led a full life of 88 years. She moved to Tucson in 1972.

MCLEAN, Nolen L., age 85, died October 19, 1994. An attorney since 1931 in Tucson, Nolen served on the Pima County Bar Association Ethics Committee for 25 years. He also served during WWII in the Pacific in intelligence. A long-time Arizonan, Nolen graduated from Jerome High School and the University of Arizona Law School. He was a member of the BPO Elks Lodge #385. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Maud of Tucson; daughters, Carol Ann (Gale) Hildreth of Idaho and Linda of Hawaii. He has two grandsons, All and Greg; a granddaughter, April; and a great-grandson, Corbin. Memorial Service will be held at HEATHER MORTUARY, 1040 N. LEVIN, Marshall David, born May 18, 1922, died October 22, 1994. Dr. Levin was a world renewed scientist for his research in the field of pollination and bees. He was the director of the Carl Hayden Bee Research Center in Tucson, AZ from 1963 to 1969 and Beltsville, Maryland. He was deputy assistant administrator for plant and entomological sciences. In 1983 he returned to Tucson as again director of the Carl Hayden Bee Research Center. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia; sons, Joel (Kathy), David (Donna); and four grandchildren; sisters, Lynne Woods, Gilda Ban and Paula (Bernie) Cohen, all of CA; and brother, Lewis (Joyce) Levin of Las Vegas, NV. The family will welcome visitors Wednesday evening thru Sunday in their home. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
MERCADANTE, James A., Captain, SC USN, 77, died October 17. 1994. Survived by wife, June of Tucson; son, Vincent (Darlene) Tampa, FL; daughter, Irma (Frank) Schwartz; grandchildren, Tere’ and Danny Schwartz all of St. Augustine, FL; brother, Victor (Josephine), White Plains, NY; sisters, Isabella DeNardi (Tony), DelRay Beach, FL, Anne (Archie) Colonna, Cape Coral, FL; and a number of nieces and nephews. After 27 years of active duty he took medical retirement while stationed at New London Submarine Base, Groton, CT. He was five years on the staff of Adm. Hyman G.
