BAYLESS, Christina Thomasa, 53, of Tucson, died October 5, 1994. Survived by son, Paul (Kim) Bayless; and daughter, Karen (Alan) Bayless Feldman; grandsons, Geoffrey and Michael Bayless; brothers and sisters, Henry Chavez, Alfred Chavez, Jr., Jose Chavez, Santiago Chavez, Carmela Chavez, Juanita Ciesielski and Frank Chavez. CRANE, Elizabeth Storck, 90, was born in Pittsfield, Illinois, on October 25, 1903 and died at Tucson Medical Center on Tuesday, October 4, 1994. Elizabeth came to Tucson on December 7, 1941. The widow of Francis Marion Crane, who died in 1969, she was predeceased by her son, Charles David Crane. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cathryn and Paul W. Cella; grandchildren, Kris Anne Cella McGuire, Susan Cella Ribaudo, Elizabeth Crane Staub, Charles David Crane, Jr., Jody Crane, Kyle Crane and Francis Kimberly Crane. Other survivors are six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Elizabeth was a school teacher, a defense worker at Consolidated and a medical secretary at the Tucson Clinic for many years. She was a long-time member of the Order of Eastern Star, Mariposa Chapter #31, P.E.O., Chapter J, Catalina Methodist Church and attended Christ Presbyterian Church in recent years. She will be missed by her many friends and neighbors. Visitation will take place at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd., at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 8, Pastor Joseph Skelly of Christ Presbyterian Church will officiate at Chapel Services at 2:00 p.m. with burial following. DAVIS, James M., local sculptor, died October 4, 1994 at home in Tucson surrounded by his loved ones. He fought a courageous battle against cancer before passing into God’s eternal light. Jim was born 62 years ago in Benson, AZ where he graduated from high school. He also attended the University of Arizona and Arizona State University and served in the U.S. Navy from 1950 to 1954. From the home that he built with wife, Tina, to the sculptures he created, Jim’s work expresses his passion for nature and his love of humankind. He is survived by his loving wife, Tina Jacome Davis; his sister, Martha Sherman of Fallbrook, CA; and his daughter, Loire Marteney of Costa Mesa, CA. In addition to nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law, and many other relatives whom he loved, he is survived by a community of artists and friends who were touched by his gentle spirit and monumental generosity. He never knew a stranger. The family would like to publicly recognize and thank the wonderful, loving, caring and compassionate workers from Carondelet Hospice Services. MAXWELL, Marjorie, age 86, of Harrisonville, Missouri, died Wednesday, October 5, 1994 at Golden Years Care Services, Harrisonville. She was born May 11, 1908 in Maryville, MO, the daughter of Claude E. and Sallie (Swinford) Shell. She lived in Rayton, MO and Kansas City, MO before moving to Tucson, AZ in 1958. She moved to Harrisonville in 1978. She was a clerical worker for Orshin Memorial Hospital in Tucson for 20 years before her retirement in 1978. She is survived by two sons, Rex Shell of Harrisonville and Dennis Shell of Kansas City, KS; one brother, Swinford H. Shell of Kansas City, MO; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. ROESCH, Wilmaleen (Buttons), 66, died at home September 26, 1994 after a courageous fight with cancer. Survived by her loving husband, Martin A. Roesch, Retired USAF; children, SFC John Roesch of Phoenix, Deborah Carney of Seattle, WA, Teresa Bishop of Mesa; and 10 grandchildren. SHAVER, Jeannette Marie Jarkowski, 39, of Tucson, died October 2, 1994. Survived by father, Dr. Thaddeus L. YOUNG, Jennie D, 93, a Tucson homemaker, died October 4, 1994 at a local care home. Mrs. Young was born in San Angelo, TX January 21, 1901. In 1909 she moved to New Mexico Territory where her parents homesteaded. She attended high school in Hope, NM where she met and married A. C. Young, who preceded her in death. Following her marriage on June 2, 1922, she moved to Tucson. She was employed as a cashier at T. Ed Litt Drugstore. She is survived by her children, Vivian Marrs of Tucson and Alex Young of Lakeland, FL; a foster son, Quinten Holland of Chula Vista, CA, Marilyn Atkinson and Orran Fairly; niece and nephew of NM; a sister, Mary Lee McInnis of Alamogordo, NM. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was the last charter member of the Tucson Church of Christ and was a active member all her life. BAKER, Grant Robert, 36, died October 6, 1994. Husband of Shelly Baker of Tucson; father of Gavin, Trenton, Weston and Alyson Baker, all of Tucson; son of Myrtle Ann Baker of IL; brother of Cindy Shull and Ben Baker, both of CA; grandson of Lawrence Baker of IL. JOHNSON, Azalee, eternally in heaven, passed to be with the Lord on October 4, 1994. Survived by husband, David Johnson, Jr.; brothers, Victor, Jessie, Matthew, Jimmy, Silas, Leslie and Paul Foley; sisters, Luanna Lee and Ruth Warford; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends also survive. Martin Ave., with Rev. Clarence Griffin officiating. Azalee and her family moved to Tucson in 1937. After graduation from High School she moved to Washington and attended Washington State School of Nursing. As a registered nurse she was employed in hospitals in Washington, California and Arizona for a total of 22 years. She moved back to Tucson and was active in the community. She was choir director and taught Sunday school at Trinity Baptist Church, Ideal Baptist Church and Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. LAVANCE, Walter R., 68, a Tucson resident and retired Engineer from Hughes Aircraft. Survived by daughters, Jeanne Karol of Wall, N.J., Barbara Scherm of Beachwood, N.J., Peggy LaVance of Tucson, and four grandchildren. MASLANA, Dr. Louis L., 96, passed away on October 5, 1994. He will be greatly missed by his children, Richard, Robert, Joanne and Eugene. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous relatives. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary; son, Louis; and beloved wife of 50 years, Frances. Also brother, John, Joseph, Peter, Stanley, Anthony; and sister, Mary (Maj.). Dr. Maslana was born in Rychow, Poland (Austria-Hungary) on November 27, 1897 and grew up there. At the outbreak of WWI he was a member of the Polish Rifle Brigade. In the fall of 1914 he was transferred to the Austrian 56th Regiment. He served in Poland, Russia, Romania, Italy, Serbia and Montenegro during the next four years. He was in numerous engagements as a member of a storm troop battalion. He attained the rank of Sergeant. At the Armistice in 1918 he joined the newly created Polish Army as a Sergeant. He was in the 12th Division during the Polish-Russian War of 1920-21. After the war he worked as a coal miner and acted in several German films. In 1923 he came to the United States and settled in Chicago, IL where several of his brothers were already residing. He attended Holy Trinity High School and graduated in 1927. He studied barbering to pay for his college tuition. He then attended Crane College and Northern Illinois College of Optometry. Due to a war injury he became an Optometrist instead of his first choice of Surgical Medicine. Dr. Maslana graduated in 1932 and retired in 1976. In 1932 he opened his first office in Lead, South Dakota. He met his first wife Elenor there and they had two children, Mary and Richard. Going to Green Bay, Wisconsin in 1937 he opened an office there and in Seymour. With the start of WWII he volunteered for the Polish Army-in-Exile and the United States Army. Entering in 1942 and honorably discharged in 1944 he served in Ordnance and the Medical Section 1885th Unit, Camp Howie, Texas. During the war he met his second wife, Frances and they shared 50 years and four children together. In 1955 he accepted at position at Ft. Huachuca in the Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Clinic and worked there until 1969 as an as an Optometrist. In 1969 he accepted several positions in the Milwaukee-Brookfield, WI area and finally retired in 1976. Throughout the years he continued his education in Optometry from various institutions such as the Royal Academy of Optometry in Toronto, Canada. He had various interests that kept him active and he was a member of the American Legion, DAV and National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Visitation will be at VALLEY FUNERAL HOME, 2545 N. Tucson Blvd. (one block N. of Grant) from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 7, 1994. A Rosary will be said at 7:00 p.m. Memorial Mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 8, 1994 at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church. Burial with full Military Honors and interment will be at Holy Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church or Arizona Cancer Center, 1501 N. Campbell Ave.
