YOUNG, Alexandria “Allie’, 78, of Tucson, passed away September 21, 1994. Survived by husband, Bernard E. Young; son, Larry (Carol); and four grandchildren, Shane, Missy, Jimmy, and Sara, all of Kingston, PA. Also survived by brother, Lawrence (Dee) of Ontario, CA; sisters-in-law, Maxine Chabam of WA; and M. Helen Young of NY; also niece, Valerie; and nephew, Gary, both of CA. Mrs. Young was preceded in death by her parents, Alex and Nettie Chaban; and brother, Roman. She was born July 12, 1916 in Aberdeen, WA, and was a graduate of Weatherwax High School and Western Washington University. She was a 50 year resident of Tucson. At Mrs. Young’s request, there will be no Services. Burial will be in Oahu, Hawaii. Remembrances may be made to the Lung Association, Tucson Humane Society, or TMC Hospice.
ATKINSON, Leroy “Bozo’, 78, a resident of Albuquerque, NM, died Saturday, September 24, 1994. He was born November 15, 1915 on his fathers farm near Grandview, Texas. Leroy was a high school football star when he met Wilmerine Bollin. They were married in 1935. Leroy and Wilmerine started out in Gallup, NM where he began to learn the business of trading with the Navajo Indians. After working for other Indian traders he determined it was time to go into business for himself. Box Canyon Trading Post was the beginning of a career that lasted 47 years. An interview and photo was placed in the Route 66 Book noting Leroy for the quality and finish of the Navajo jewelry he had produced. He was interviewed in Life Magazine and the New Mexico Magazine. Leroy was a member of the AIAA Elks. He was highly respected for his abilities, integrity and his willingness to always help others. Leroy loved to chew on large cigars, but to his friends amazement the cigar was never lit. This ever present unlit cigar became Leroy’s descriptive trademark. His counsel, love, caring and generosity will always be remembered by those fortunate enough to have known him. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Wilmerine Atkinson of Albuquerque; daughter, Tyler Atkinson of Santa Fe; sons, Joe (Jeanelle) Atkinson of Durango, CO and Lynn (Donna) Atkinson of Tucson; foster son, Leroy (Stella) Dayea of Gallup, NM; grandchildren, Eric and Jona Bonecutter, Josh, Shauna, Tracey, Erin, Katie and Kerri Atkinson and Suzanna Dayea; one great-grandchild; brother, Herman Atkinson of Scottsdale, AZ; sister, Anna Mae Panos of Tucson. ONG, Fee H. “Barney’, 80, passed away on September 24, 1994. Loving father of Sophie (Dave Lafferty) of Glendale, CA, Howard (Mary) of Cheyenne, WY, Fee H. Jr. (Rosa) of Las Vegas, NV, and Tom (Deb) of Pasadena, CA; brother of Mrs. C.F. Wong of Toronto, Can.; grandfather of Matthew, Cori, Laura, Jason, Evan and Bonnie. Preceded in death by his wife, Yack Kwai. Resident of Mammoth, AZ for 38 years. Born in Canton, China on January 11, 1914. Barney served in World War II where he was awarded the Purple Heart for courageous duty and an injury that incapacitated his right arm. DOWDALL. Prominent Tucson Attorney Richard J. Dowdall, age 70, died in Pinetop, Arizona Sunday September 25, 1994. He is survived by his wife, Ronnie; and children, Reginald James, Jacquelyn Ann, Douglas Allen, Cynthia Lee Thomae, all of Tucson and Brooke Banister Charpentier of Irvine, CA; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Dowdall was born in Los Gatos, California and received his L.L.B. from the University of Arizona in 1954. He was admitted to the University Bar Association in 1954 and has since practiced in Tucson, his most recent firm being Johnson and Dowdall P.C. He was a member of the American, Arizona, and Pima County Bar Associations and the American Judicature Society. He was President and trustee of the Amphitheater School Board in 1963 and President of the Arizona School Board Association in 1970. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, October 3, 1994 at 4:00 p.m. at the mesquite groves at Tucson Country Club. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Richard J. SIEGEL, Shirley Ruth, 69, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 1994 from complications related to a 15 year affliction of Alzheimers. She was a beloved and devoted wife to Abe for 49 years, mother to Jeffrey and Ronald and Aunt to Edward and Kathy Abromowitz, all of Tucson. Shirley earned a high honors degree from Monroe High School, Bronx, NYC, completed two years of college at Hunter College and earned a graduate degree as a Clinical Medical Technologist as well as a Radiology Technologist. The family lived in Dumont, NJ for 30 years and Shirley worked as a full charge bookkeeper for Parents Magazine, Rolling Stone Magazine and Burlington Mill, as well as doing volunteer work at St. Joseph’s Orphanage of Rockleigh, NJ and Englewood Hospital, Englewood, NJ and taught reading to adults at the Bergenfield, New Jersey Library. She is survived by husband, Abe; sons, Jeffrey and Ronald; brother-in-law Adolph Abramowitz and sons; sister and brother-in-law, Rita and Thomas Hightower; brothers, Larry Epstein and family; Dr. Donald and Sandra Berstein and family and Dr. David and Dolores Beckman and family of LA. Shirley was a four year resident of Handmakers Jewish Services For The Aging the Golding and Ansgrvitz wings and was lovingly and tenderly treated and cared for by the staff. She was lovingly and tenderly treated at University of Arizona Medical Center for emergent and acute problems.
