MARLAR, Samuel Tennon, 69, died July 20, 1994 at the Veteran Administration Medical Center in Prescott. He was born November 24, 1924 in Hollywood, Arkansas to Samuel Marlar and Bertha (Duke) Marlar. He served in the United States Army under General Patton in the European Theater of World War II. He moved to Arizona 57 years ago from Arkansas and was an Electrical Technician for Tucson Electric Power. He moved to Prescott 3 years ago from Tucson and was a life member of the V.F.W. and was a member of the American Legion, Masons, Moose Lodge and Fraternal Order of Eagles. He is survived by sons, David and Michael Marlar; brothers, Dale and Harlan Marlar; two grandchildren, Christian and Audrey. Sam is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 40 years, Barbara Ann Marlar. Both she and Sam were graduates of Amphi High School in 1943. A Memorial Service will be scheduled at a later date at V.F.W. Post 10188, 345 E. Roger Rd. A Graveside Service with Full Military Honors will be Monday, July 25, 1994, 10:00 a.m., at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix.
MOLINA, Martin A., passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 1994. He is survived by his wife, Guadalupe R. Molina; two sons, George and Johnny Molina, all of Tucson; sister, Asencion Bracamonte; brothers, Pete Molina, Perfecto Molina, Jesus; and six grandchildren, all of Tucson. WILLEMS, George J., 58, of Tucson, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, July 19, 1994. Mr. Willems is survived by his wife, Beth; son, Barry (Amanda) Willems of Baton Rouge, LA; son, David (Sally) Willems; daughter, Karen (Sean) Ruddy; step-sons, Eric and Wayne Hollom, all of Tucson; eight grandchildren; three brothers; five sisters. Mr. Willems was an elementary school teacher for 28 years with TUSD and 3 years teaching the Navajo Children in the four corners area. COURVILLE, Charles E. (Chuck), 62, passed away July 19, 1994 in Tucson. He is survived by his wife, Coleene (Cline); daughter, Colette (Rick) Adams of Portland, OR; sons, Graig (Dorothy) of Carmella, CA, and Chris (Belinda) of El Cajon, CA; grandchildren, Tyler and Kacee Adams, and Drew Courville; brother, George E. Courville of Oak Ridge, TN; father-in-law, Walter Cline of Belgrade, MT; sisters and brother-in-laws, Lilah and Rex Duncan of Belgrade, MT, Delores and Dale Tash of Dillon, MT; many nieces and nephews also survive. Mr. Courville owned Chuck’s Electric, Inc. and was a member of IBEW Local #532, National Electrical Contractor Association, AUSA and BPO Elks Lodge #463 in Bozeman, MT. He was retired from the 8th Battalion, 40th Armor of the United States Army Reserve. He was active for many years with the Boy Scouts of America, Catalina Council. DIXON, Freeman H., 77, of Tucson, died Wednesday, July 20, 1994. Preceded in death by a son, Roger in 1992. JENNINGS, Madeline R., 91, died July 19, 1994. Loving wife of the late Thomas F. Jennings; loving and devoted mother of the late Charles Lanning, Thelma Jiuffre, and Richard Lanning and surviving sons, Thomas (Gwen) Jennings of Cupertino, CA and Dennis (Judy) Jennings of Tucson, AZ; loving grandmother of 12. She leaves numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, relatives and friends. She brought a lot of love and laughs to all that knew her. She will be deeply missed. JOHNSON, John McGill, 77, died July 10, 1994, after a long illness. He is survived by his wife, Hilda Lundy Johnson; son, Michael, his wife Annette Everlove, and their children Levi, Eloise, and Hannah, all of Tucson; son, Christopher, his wife Victoria, and their children Victoria and Lynn, all of Tucson; and daughter, Lynn Colton, her husband Peter, and their children Matthew Evans, Peter Joseph and Travis, all of Benson, Arizona. Mr. Johnson is also survived by his brother, William Johnson II of Fall River Mills, California; and two sisters, Louise Stum and Mary McWhorter, both of Tucson. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Robert Bruce Johnson. John was born in Kansas City, MO, on July 31, 1917. He obtained his civil engineering degree from the University of Arizona in 1942, and became a registered civil engineer in the State of Arizona. After serving in the United States Navy, John returned to Tucson in 1945 and joined his father and brother-in-law in Johnson Construction Company as its vice president and later, president. Johnson Construction Company was sold to Tanner Construction Company from which John retired in 1982. Following his retirement, John served as the treasurer and engineering adviser for Habitat for Humanity Tucson and, along with his wife Hilda, was active in many church ministries as well as Meals on Wheels. John was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, and, an avid musician, was a member of St. Mark’s Presbyterian Church Choir and the Tucson Community Chorus. Additionally, he was an elder and deacon at St. Mark’s Presbyterian Church and a long-standing member of the downtown Tucson Rotary Club. A memorial service will be held at St. Mark’s Presbyterian Church, 3809 E., 3rd Street, Tucson, Arizona, 85716, on Saturday, July 23, 1994 at 10:00 a.m. with the Reverend Dr. Paul David Sholin officiating. KNIGHT, Anna K., 86, of Tucson, died July 20, 1994. She was a Tucson resident since 1972 and a nursing career in Illinois, Idaho and Arizona specializing in public nursing. Received Masters Degree in Special Education and Geriatrics when in her 60's. Her last position at Santa Rosa Nursing Home in Green Valley. KRAHE, Charles R., 37, left this world in peace surrounded by love, on July 21, 1994. Preceded in death by his loving mother, Mary. SECRIST, Jeannette J., 83, passed away Monday, July 18, 1994, after a long illness. Born on a small farm November 21, 1910 in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. In 1932, she received her Bachelor’s degree from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin. After college she began work in a medical lab at the University of Wisconsin Medical School where she met her late husband, Dr. Delbert L. Secrist, also a well known Tucson physician and humanitarian. She was then married in 1934. In 1936, Dr. Secrist began practice at 123 S. Stone Avenue where Jeannette worked on numerous occasions as a receptionist, bookkeeper and nurse. She continued her medical interest and became President of The Pima County Medical Auxiliary where she organized numerous medical functions in Tucson. Her interest in community service grew as she became President of the Junior League of Tucson. She was an active Board member of St. Lukes Home, an organization for senior women of low income. Jeannette stayed active with her college sorority and was past president of the Kappa Alpha Theta Alumni Association at the University of Arizona. At the University of Arizona, she was a member of the “President’s Club’, the U of A Foundation and the Wildcat Club. Jeannette was a charter member of Arizona Chapter #2 Order of Eastern Star and a charter member of Olana Temple No. 131, Daughters of the Nile. She was very active in PEO, Chapter W and served many years on the Board of Directors of Brewster Home for Unwed Mothers. She was active in Trinity Presbyterian Church and served several years on its Board of Trustees. She was also a member of Tucson Country Club. Jeannette was a Daughter of the American Revolution and member of the Tucson Medical Center Foundation. In May 1975, Jeannette was named an “Outstanding Citizen of Tucson’ by the Mayor and City Council in recognition for her extensive and outstanding community service work. Jeannette is survived by three sons, Rick Secrist of Tucson, Lee Secrist, M.D. of Rolling Hills, CA, D.L. Secrist, Jr., M.D. of Solana Beach, CA; and eight grandchildren, Wendy Secrist, M.D. of Houston, TX, Trip (D.L. III) Secrist of San Diego, CA, Cari, Elizabeth, Katie, Dan, Mike and A.J. Secrist, all of Rolling Hills, CA; and three daughters-in-law, Roxann Vallentine Secrist of Tucson, Marta Secrist of Rolling Hills, CA and Jan Secrist of Solana Beach, CA.
