RAVEN, Rita Corn, 74, died August 20, 1994 at Pompton Lakes, NJ. Survived by husband, Leo Raven; sister, Beverly (David) Beckwith; nephews and nieces; and friends, both in Tucson and New York. She moved to Tucson in 1940, worked for the Tucson Hebrew Loan Society and was a social worker for Tucson Jewish Community Center. She left in 1953 as a medical social worker at Bellevue Hospital and Roosevelt Hospital in New York, where she worked for 21 years. Memorials may be made to the Tucson Jewish Family and Children Services.
VELEZ, Susie M., 71, of Tucson, passed away August 30, 1994. Preceded in death by husband, Bill “Memo’ E. Velez; daughters, Connie (Art) Amparano of La Habra, CA; and Anna (Dave) Romo of Tucson, AZ; step-daughter, Sylvia Velez of Oceanside, CA; son, Tony Velez of Tucson, AZ; sisters, Lola Ochoa of Phoenix, AZ; and Connie (Jesus) Sequrios of El Paso, TX; brothers, Roy (Susie) McCoy; Oscar (Ruby) McCoy; and William McCoy, all of Phoenix, AZ. She was a member of the Altar Rosary Society of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and former member of the NY State Nurse’s Association. Survived by husband, Gerard F. Burns; children, Frances Anne Burns of Tucson, AZ, and Daniel G. Burns of Mahopac, NY; one grandson; one sister, Sonja Johannsen of Fauska, Norway; half-brother, Joseph Lang of NJ; half-sister, Judy Rein of Yorktown Hghts., NY. DYKERS, Kathryn Marie, 54, of 2438 N. Palo Dulce Dr., died Sunday, July 31, 1994 at her home near Marquette, MI. Mrs. Dykers was born March 8, 1940 in Clovis, New Mexico to the late Albert S. and Ophelia (Luce) Walker. She had lived and maintained a home in Tucson since 1961. She had been active in the community with volunteer work and various childrens sporting activities. She had previously worked as a secretary for Pacific Light and Power in Rawlins, Wyoming. She had also worked as a teachers aide in Arizona, a bank teller in Southern California, and a school secretary in New Mexico. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Tucson, Arizona and was a member of the Eastern Star, Business and Professional Women of America, Women’s Auxiliary of the AIME, and was very active in craft work. Survivors include her husband, Lawrence Grandjean Dykers whom she married on June 8, 1958; one son, Bryan Joseph Dykers, wife Laura and children Candace and Jessica of Princeton, MN; one daughter, Leslie Kay and husband Willie Jefferson and daughter Ophelia Gabrielle of Bellevue, WA; two brothers, Nathaniel Walker of Clovis, NM, and Sydney Walker of Belen, NM; two sisters, Oleta Warren of Los Lunas, NM, and Faye Nell Hagedorn of Fort Sumner, NM; also three granddaughters and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 8, at 10:00 a.m., at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1825 N. Alvernon Way, Tucson, AZ. Graveside services to be held at EAST LAWN PALMS CEMETERY, 5801 E. GONZALEZ, Joseph P. “Joe’, 92, passed away July 30, 1994. He came to Tucson at age 14 where he resided for 78 years. Mr. Gonzalez was a Master Carpenter and lifetime member of the Carpenter’s Union Local 857. Don Jose was a Gentleman’s Gentleman with an unforgettable smile. He will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Alfred Gonzalez and David H. Marmion; his daughters-in-law, Alicia Gonzalez and Lenore Marmion; his grandchildren, Stephen, David, Paul, Brian, Dale and Darrell; three great-grandchildren and the Marmion family. Private Interment services were held. Memorial Mass will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 5, at St. Augustine Cathedral, 192 South Stone Avenue. Jose and his wife, Isabel, are now again joined as one.

John, a decorated Vietnam Veteran, is survived by beloved wife, Shirley of Benson, AZ, Mescal Lakes Area; daughters, Linda of San Diego, Cynthia Hogan of Tucson, Brenda of Mescal Lakes; grandson, Christopher Hogan of Tucson; sisters, Barbara York of WI, and Mary Cavadeous of FL. Services will be held in Sierra Vista at Fort Huachuca on Monday, August 8, 1994. HESIDENCE, Mary Bernice, age 89, died August 28, 1994. She was a native of St. Paul, KS; 50 year resident of Tucson, and has been a resident of San Antonio since 1975. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew P. Hesidence, grandson, David P. Kearsley, and great-grandson, Nicholas Ellis. Mrs. Hesidence was a member of The Third Order of St. Benedict. She graduated from St. Marys Hospital School of Nursing in Tucson in 1924 at the age of 20 and retired in 1970. Mrs. Hesidence is survived by her daughter, Patricia Kearsley and husband Donald of San Antonio; son and daughter-in-law, Harry R. and Julia T. Hesidence of Bay City, TX; brother, Joseph V. Roberts of Culver City, CA; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She will be sorely missed.
