TIMMONS, F. Leonard, born February 12, 1905, in Little River, Kansas, the son of Elmer and Sylvanda Timmons, He attended primary school in a country school near Little River and high school in Little River. After graduating from high school he attended McPherson College for two years to obtain his teaching certificate. He taught in Bennington and Nile, Kansas and then attended Kansas State University where he received his Bachelor of Science in 1927. He married Bessie Smith on December 25, 1927 in Bennington. They moved to Pratt, Kansas where he was a county agent for one year before he returned to Kansas State to obtain his Masters Degree in Aquatic Weed Research. After receiving his Masters Degree he went to work for the U. S. Department of Agriculture in Hays, Kansas. He and his family moved to Logan, Utah in 1948 and to Laramie, Wyoming in 1953 where he got his PHD at the University of Wyoming. They remained in Wyoming until his retirement in 1970. During those years he traveled with his job to India, Africa, and Iran. He published many articles and several books in his field. He received many distinguished service awards for his work in aquatic weed research. Hunting, fishing, and gardening were his favorite pastimes. After retirement he and Besse moved to Tucson, Arizona where they lived until his death on June 8, 1994. He is survived by his wife, Bessie; four daughters, Shirley Goetz of Stone Mt., Georgia, Myrna McDermed and Irma Means of Tempe, Arizona, and Kay Wright of Newcastle, Wyoming; two brothers, Lawrence Timmons of St. Johns, Kansas and Glenn Timmons of Hutchinson, Kansas; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held on June 16, 1994 at 1:30 p.m. at the chapel of Christ Church United Methodist, Tucson, Arizona. WALLING, William W. Walling, 82, of Tucson, passed away August 9, 1994. Mr. Walling was born June 2, 1912 in New York City, NY and was raised in the rugged New Hampshire country side. Mr. Walling was a Marine Corps Veteran and served as a personal bodyguard to President Franklin D. Roosevelt aboard the 10, 000 ton heavy cruiser, the U.S.S. Houston. He made two voyages guarding President Roosevelt, who was fond of traveling with the fleet engaging in what was know as “Gun Boat Diplomacy’. The U.S.S. Houston was later sunk by the Japanese in the historic battle of the Java Sea. He received a mechanical engineering degree from Cooper Union in New York City. He worked for many years in the aircraft manufacturing industry, eventually ascending to President of Stratacon Aircraft Corp. of Morristown, NJ. He was a distinguished member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, serving actively for 50 years. He achieved the highest honor in the Moose, the coveted Pilgrim Degree, and served as Deputy Supreme Governor, State of New Jersey, and Deputy Director of Conservation. He was an enthusiastic developer of new Moose Lodges and memberships and made numerous friends across the country. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Peggy Walling, herself a collegian in the Women of the Moose; his sons, William and James (Patricia) Walling; his brother, Wilbur Walling; Ron and Bernice Edwards. His grandchildren are Laura Walling, Lisa (Tim) Callenbach, Steven Walling; Todd (Carolyn) Nobles, Tracy Nobles, and Jamie Walling; David and Brian Edwards. His great-grandchildren are Chelsea Callenbach and Thomas Nobles. He will be remembered as a special and giving man. COLLIER, Ernest Estaquio Olivera, of Tucson, died June 9, 1994. He was born in the Philippine Islands on September 29, 1913, he was the only child of Brigida and Ernest Herman Collier. He professed a hope in Christ and united with Christ The King Catholic Church where his family was among the organized members. Ernest attended elementary and high school in Tucson, Arizona. After graduation he served in the 1st and 2nd Filipine Infantry Regent U.S. Army as a Master Sergeant. Thus, after his military career, he was employed by the Tucson Gas and Electric Company for thirty years, retiring in 1977. Estaquio, better known to some of his friends as Ernie, Collie or Stockie, was a free spirited, very humorous, humble, loving, husband, father and friend to all who knew him. Some of his favorite hobbies were fishing, hunting, and spending time with family and friends. He leaves to mourn his passing, his loving wife, Tomasa; five sons, Edgar, Ronald, Robert, Jerome and Tony; two daughters, Roberta and Gloria; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren of San Diego; daughter, Rene and husband Mohammad Taleb and children Ernestina and Samy of Tucson, Arizona. He will be missed by a host of other relatives and friends. Services will be held at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5401 S.
