HYMAN, Mildred L., 73, of Tucson, passed away June 13, 1994. Survived by daughters, Barbara (Arthur) Silvers of Tucson, AZ, Susan (Todd Heminway) Cuscuna of Los Angeles, CA; grandchildren, Jessica, Gabriel, Michael and Samuel; brothers, Howard Lieberman, Morton Lieberman, both of Philadelphia, PA. Services and interment will be held in Philadelphia, PA, with Memorial Services to be held in Tucson at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Arizona Cancer Center, 1501 N. KNIGHT, Nellie Marie, 78, of Tucson, died June 15, 1994. Survived by daughter, Frieda Hilliard, of Prescott; sons, Ronald Lee Knight, of Tucson, Donald L. Knight, of Phoenix; sisters, Vergie Henderson, of IN, Virginia Cruz, of Myrtle Beach, SC; five grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. MELKER, Gertrude C., 90, passed away June 15, 1994. Survived by her sister, Irene De Martino; son-in-law, Hank Watchman; grandchildren, Nancy, Richard and Abbie Watchman; nieces, nephews and brother-in-law. Gertie will be missed by her family. VANDESTREEK, Conrad, age 79, of Tucson, died Tuesday, June 14, 1994. Survived by wife, Lucile, of Tucson; son, Robert (Bonnie) Vandestreek, of Tucson; daughter, Marilyn Olsen, of Ogden, UT; brothers, Bert and Elmer; sisters, Henrietta Gunderson and Phyllis Lathrop; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was retired publisher of Valley City Time Record, Valley City, North Dakota. He belonged to the Elks, Lions Club, Knights of Pythias, Shriners, Eagles, Valley City Country Club. Member of Christ Church United Methodist and Tucson and Epworth Methodist Church in Valley City, ND. Memorial Services were held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 16, 1994 at Christ Church United Methodist, 655 N. Craycroft with Reverend Thomas Kiracofe officiating. WHITFORD, Bess Hearne, 75, of Tucson, died Tuesday morning June 14, 1994. She is survived by a daughter, Josie W. Stukes, of Tucson and David T. Whitford, of Champaign, IL; also surviving are four grandchildren, Florence S. Becker, of Tucson, Anne W. Stukes, of Chapel Hill, NC, Andrew J. Whitford and Edward J. Whitford of Champaign; also surviving is one great-grandson, Wilson E. Becker, of Tucson. Mrs. Whitford was born on March 19, 1919 in Wilson, NC, the daughter of John Oscar and Mattie Batts Hearne. She graduated from Atlantic Christian College with a degree in music. She married the late J. Melvin Whitford on July 6th, 1941 in Wilson. A lifelong lover of music, Mrs. Whitford shared that love as an elementary school teacher in North Carolina and for 25 years as she taught first and second grades at the Westminster Schools in Atlanta, GA. After retiring, Beth and her husband, returned to their Eastern North Carolina home near Grantsboro and enjoyed an active outdoor life. For several years she served as an organist at several churches in Eastern North Carolina. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Whitford moved to Tucson in 1992, where she attended the Immanuel Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society or the Immanuel Presbyterian Church memorial fund. A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 17 at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church. Inurnment will be in New Bern, NC. Arrangements by BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

ARAIZA, Frank A. Jr., 75, died June 13, 1994. Survived by his wife, Adelina Araiza; children, Frank (Nikki) Araiza, David Araiza and Laura (Gary) Pulvertaft, all of Tucson; sister, Armida (Manuel) Durazo, of Douglas; and brother, Oscar (Renee) Araiza, of Tucson; grandchildren, Josh, Jessica and Christina. Mass will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, June 16, 1994 at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, 1800 S. Kolb Road with Interment to follow at Our Lady of the Desert Cemetery. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 15. Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 15 at BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

BIERCE, William Craig, 46, a surveyor with the Pima County Department of Public Works Stake Center, died of cancer May 29, 1994 while visiting family members in Alexandria, Virginia. Bill was a resident of Tucson. A Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 18, 1994 at the Sanctuary Cove Outdoor Chapel. The Chapel is located at 8001 Scenic Drive in the Tucson Mountains, reached by traveling north on Silverbell Road to Pima Farm Road, then west about two miles to the intersection with Scenic Drive. In lieu of gift of flowers or other donations, the family requests that gifts in honor of Mr. Bierce be made in his name to: Native Seeds/SEARCH, 2509 N. Campbell Ave., #325, Tucson, Arizona 85719.

DUBEN, Albert, 87, of Tucson, died June 14, 1994. Survived by his wife of 60 years, Rose Duben; daughter, Leah Bonnie (Fred) Richter, of Tucson; grandchildren, Michael D. Richter and Suzanne Richter; step-brother, Edward Ferman, of New Jersey; sister-in-law, Anna Rogovin, of New York. Graveside Services Thursday, 9:30 a.m. Evergreen Cemetery, Temple Emanu-El Section with Rabbi Thomas Louchheim officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice. FIELDS, Aloha, 68, of Tucson, died June 13, 1994. Survived by daughter, Faith Townsend; two grandsons, Michael and Allen Townsend; two granddaughters, Tammy Birney and Lori; eight great-grandchildren; mother, Mrs. Pat Wright; two aunts, June Stockton and Fern Fields. Preceded in death by her husband, Ivan; and son, Rikki. “Rinkey’ was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all. Graveside Services will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, Thursday, June 16, 1994 at 9:00 a.m. with Dr Wayne North of Emmanuel Baptist Church officiating. GUEVARA, Guadalupe S., 88, died June 13, 1994. Aunt of Connie V. Oliva, Ruben, Alfonso and Oscar Villasenor and Tony Ybave; numerous great-nieces and nephews also survive. HERNANDEZ, Arthur P., 67, of Tucson, passed away June 11, 1994. Survived by wife, Francisca De Hernandez; daughters, Herlinda (Barry) Hernandez-Coe, Josie (Larry) Munguia and Veronica O. Hernandez; son, Arthur (Margaret) Hernandez Jr.; sisters, Vera (Manuel) Campuzano, Cruz (Albert) Armenta, Jessie de Fosse and Helen (Alfred) Borquez; brother, Frank Hernandez; eight grandchildren; and two grandsons; also many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 16, 1994 from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. at TUCSON MORTUARY, South Chapel, 240 S. Stone Avenue with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered on Friday, 9:00 a.m. at St. Augustine Cathedral. Interment at East Lawn Cemetery. Arrangements by TUCSON MORTUARY, INC.

JOST, Joseph, Jr., longtime Tucson winter resident, died June 13, 1994 in Illinois. Born June 29, 1927. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Johanna and Joseph. He is survived by his sisters, Betty and Irene of Palatine, IL. No services will be held. Visitation June 15, 1994 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Ahlgrim Funeral Home, Palatine. Cremation will be followed by private burial later at St. Michael the Archangel in Palatine. Donations may be made in Joe’s name to the American Diabetes Assn., 6 North Michigan, Chicago, IL 60602.

TIMMONS, F. Leonard, born February 12, 1905 in Little River, Kansas, the son of Elmer and Sylvanda Timmons. He attended primary school in a country school near Little River and high school in Little River. After graduating from high school he attended McPherson College for two years to obtain his teaching certificate. He taught in Bennington and Nile, Kansas and then attended Kansas State University where he received his Bachelor of Science in 1927. He married Bessie Smith on December 25, 1927 in Bennington. They moved to Pratt, Kansas where he was a county agent for one year before he returned to Kansas State to obtain his Masters Degree in Aquatic Weed Research. After receiving his Masters Degree he went to work for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Hays, Kansas. He and his family moved to Logan, Utah in 1948 and to Laramie, Wyoming in 1953 where he got his PHD at the University of Wyoming. They remained in Wyoming until his retirement in 1970. During those years he traveled with his job to India, Africa, and Iran. He published many articles and several books in his field. He received many distinguished service awards for his work in aquatic weed research. Hunting, fishing, and gardening were his favorite pastimes. After retirement he and Besse moved to Tucson, Arizona where they lived until his death on June 8, 1994. He is survived by his wife, Bessie; four daughters, Shirley Goetz of Stone Mt., Georgia, Myrna McDermed and Irma Means of Tempe, Arizona, and Kay Wright of Newcastle, Wyoming; two brothers, Lawrence Timmons of St. Johns, Kansas, and Glenn Timmons of Hutchinson, Kansas; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held on June 16, 1994 at 1:30 p.m. at the chapel of Christ Church United Methodist, Tucson, Arizona. Memorials have been established to Christ United Methodist of Tucson and the Alzheimers Association. Arrangements by EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY.

WARREN, Dennis C., 40, of Rillito, died June 9, 1994. Survived by father, D.C. Warren, of Rillito, AZ; and sisters, Dorothy M. Warren and Bobbi Warren, of Tucson. Services will be held Thursday, June 16, 11:00 a.m. at ARIZONA MORTUARY, 7 E. University Blvd. with the Reverend Jessie McKnight officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 15, 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at ARIZONA MORTUARY.

WATTS, Byran “B.K.’, CMSgt. U.S.A.F., retired, 73, of Tucson, died Tuesday, June 14, 1994. Survived by his wife, Dorothy J. Fogle Watts, of Tucson; sons, Tommy Watts, of Phoenix, Ken Watts, of Stockton, CA; brothers, Bill Watts, of Travelers Rest, SC, Max Watts, of Helena, MT; sister, Betty Batson of Stowe Mountain, GA; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. B.K. was a past commander of American Legion Post #36. Funeral Service: 9:00 a.m. Friday, June 17, 1994 at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Road with Pastor William Denlinger of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at East Lawn Palms Cemetery. Friends may call at the Chapel one-half hour prior to the service.

YEATTS, Kenneth Wayne, born June 20, 1967, died June 13, 1994. Son of Glenwood Yeatts of Gladys, Virginia and Dorothy Mitchell of North Carolina; brother, Glen (Susan) of Ohio, Freddie (Sherry) of Virginia; grandson of Dana and Maud Yeatts of Virginia; fiancee, Sharron Garrett; nephew of of Paul and Virginia Yeatts of Tucson; other uncles and aunts in Virginia; cousins both in Virginia and Tucson. BIGELOW, William Carter, 40, of Tucson, died June 10, 1994. A well known local artist. Father of Rory Bigelow of IL; son of Wheelock and Barbara Bigelow of FL; brother of Charles Bigelow of NJ and Barbara Brummel of Tucson. Memorial Service Wednesday, June 15, 1994 at 1:00 p.m. with Dr. Henry Wooten officiating at ABBEY FUNERAL CHAPEL, 3435 N. 1st Ave., (888-1111).

BROWN, Mildred Louise, 77, went home to be with the Lord on June 10, 1994. Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arnold J. Brown; 6 brothers; and three sisters. She is survived by her son, Ken (Patricia) Brown of Tucson; daughters, Mary Louise (David) Moody, Missionaries to New Zealand, and Barbara Jean (Daniel) Gladden of Maricopa, AZ; sisters, Dorothy Hoefel of Tucson, and Rose Pass of Stockton, CA; grandchildren, Charles “Kenny’ Brown, David Moody, Jr., Linda Ivey, J. Mark Moody, Timothy Moody, Stephen Moody, Jonathan Moody, Louis Picciurro III, Dennis Picciurro and Debora Brandfas; great-grandchildren, Stormee, Angela, Stuart, Scott, Sabrina, Anson, Stephenie, Kristina, Joey, Katrice, Kimberly, Tiffany, Crystal and David. Funeral Services 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 15, at BRING’S MEMORIAL CHAPEL, with Dr. Louis Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Mrs. Brown was born in Daisey, TN.
