John Cruz
John Gilbert Cruz Sr., 68, of Flagstaff, died Oct. 3, 2009, in Ganado.
He was born on Nov. 21, 1940, to Francisco Gilberto Cruz and Nora Peña in Williams and lived in Flagstaff most of his life.
John was a person that loved to laugh and make people happy.
He became a Christian in 1968 and was a member of the Christ's Church of Flagstaff.
He served in the U.S. Army as an Intelligence Specialist retiring in 1968.
During his time in the Army, he was awarded a Purple Heart.
He was an apartment manager for 23 years and he currently worked for U.S. Census Bureau for the last two census counts.
Mr. Cruz is survived by his loving wife, Cynthia, of 13 years; sons Nathan Cruz and Juan G. Cruz Jr. of Page; daughters Yvonne Cruz (J.J. Jumbo) of Kaibeto, Juanita C. (Orlando) Yazzie of Flagstaff and Sara Cruz of Casa Grande; stepchildren Amber Pateaude, John M. Holsten,
Mark D. Holsten and David R. Holsten; sister Rosemarie (Rudy) Acevedo; brothers-in-law Ricky Tabatt and Kenneth Tabatt; five grandchildren; and many aunts uncles and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
A funeral service will be Friday at 10 a.m. at the Christ's Church Flagstaff, 3475 E. Soliere Ave. Burial will follow at the Citizens Cemetery, 1300 S. San Francisco St., with Veterans honors rendered by the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Marine Corps League and the Military Order of Purple Hearts.

Maxine Tyrrell
Maxine Eloyce Tyrrell, 81, of Flagstaff, died Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009, at her home.
Mrs. Tyrrell was born April 17, 1928, in York, Neb., to Mervyn and Myrdith Goldsmith.
In 1962, the Tyrrell family moved to Flagstaff from Cheyenne, Wyo.
Mrs. Tyrrell was a homemaker and neighborhood mom.
She enjoyed being a swimming instructor, bowling and making crafts.
She was also the founder of the Al-Anon Flagstaff chapter.
Mrs. Tyrrell is survived by her family, Penny Tyrrell, Marsha Evans, Robb Evans, Terry Goldsmith and Betty Menze.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Neil Tyrrell, and son Michael Tyrrell.
A celebration of life service will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Norvel Owens Mortuary Chapel, 914 E. Route 66.

Julia Dale
Julia Rose Dale, age 94, died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009, surrounded by her loved ones in Flagstaff.
Born Feb. 28, 1916, in Fowler's Mill, Ohio, she was the youngest of 13 children.
She loved music, crocheting, gardening and children.
She brought joy to all who knew her.
She grew up and lived in Ohio before moving with her beloved husband Edward to San Diego.
After her husband's death in 1990, she moved to northern Arizona.
Mrs. Dale is survived by sons Edward (Liliana) Dale and Alan (Michelle) Dale; daughter Sally Schmidt; son William Dale; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, and daughter Roberta.
A private service has been held.

L.R. Johnson
L.R. "Bud" Johnson, 76, of Winslow, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, in Winslow, surrounded by family and friends.
Mr. Johnson was born on June 15, 1933, in Spruce Hill, Minn., to Clifford and Ruth (Sheppard) Johnson.
The family moved to Bozeman, Mont., in 1938, where Mr. Johnson graduated from Bozeman Senior High School.
He worked at the stockyards and at a local ranch as a hand, where his love for horses began.
He came to Winslow to visit friends around Christmas of 1951, and took a job for the winter for the ATSF Railroad as a switchman.
He got snowed in and never left.
Mr. Johnson continued to work for the BNSF Railroad for 35 years, until his retirement in 1988.
Before his retirement, he was the last yardmaster in the tower.
Many railroaders who worked with him have told his family that he was the "best yardmaster ever" and called him "the voice in the tower."
Mr. Johnson moved just east of downtown Winslow in the mid-1960s and established the 7-J Ranch.
His love for horses and cattle kept him busy until the end.
He was one of the last livestock traders still doing business with his friends on the reservations, whose trust and friendship he valued.
He still attended the Sun Valley livestock auction until his health no longer allowed him to participate.
He had a great respect for all animals, and taught many children that same respect.
He was very active in 4-H, gymkhanas and rodeo.
He and his wife Julie helped to establish the Little Colorado Horseman's Association in Winslow, and were also active at the racetrack in Holbrook.
Mr. Johnson also helped to build the rodeo arena in Winslow.
He was generous and always a gentleman and hard worker.
He would come home from working on the railroad and go to work on the ranch and feed store, delivering hay and trading livestock.
After his retirement, Mr. Johnson and his son Craig ran cattle on the Rincon and Turquoise Ranches, which turned into another full-time job.
Among his other many enjoyments, he was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his son Craig (Katie); one grandson; sister Cleo (Roger) Anderson of Helena, Mont.; brothers Elton Johnson of Pony, Mont., and Harlan (Esther) Johnson of Union, Ore.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cliff and Ruth; sister Arvilla; brother Buck; and wife Julie.
There are no services planned.

William O'Brien
William "Bill" O'Brien, 77, of Flagstaff, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009, after Alzheimer's illness.
Mr. O'Brien was born Aug. 31, 1932, in Bronx, N.Y.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954, and then worked as an engineer at Bells Lab, holding a patent and two co-patents.
He volunteered for Hospice and the Flagstaff Police Department.
He treasured outdoor life — hiking, boating and times with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Alice (Schnell) O'Brien; and loved ones Robert and Dawn Schnell, Mary and Michael O'Brien, Maureen Fales, and the Morrill, Lyles and Springsteen families.
A gathering for friends will be Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at 2396 W. Rio Grande Court, in Flagstaff.

Louise Williams
Louise V. Williams, 94, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009, in Winslow.
Mrs. Williams was born on March 22, 1915, in Kansas City, Mo.
In 1932, she moved to Payson and married P.C. (Penn) Carson Williams.
The couple then moved to Winslow, where Mr. Williams worked for the Santa Fe Railroad.
She was a homemaker whose cooking, baking, sewing and needlework skills were unsurpassed.
Mrs. Williams is survived by her daughter, Clara; son Don; sister Mary Alice; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous other descendants.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Penn; son Glenn; brother Albert; and sister Josephine.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Desert View Cemetery.
A viewing will be Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Greer's Mortuary Chapel, in Winslow.

Tranquilino Romero
Holy Rosary for Tranquilino Pablito (Junior) Romero, 82, will be recited at 9:30 AM, Friday, May 07, 2010 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Mass to be Celebrated at 10:00 AM. Father Frank Chacon, Celebrant.
Interment to follow in Desert View Cemetery.
Tranquilino Pablito (Junior) Romero went to be with his Lord on May 1, 2010 in Flagstaff, AZ.
He was born on March 13, 1928 in Bernalillo, New Mexico to Tranquilino Romero, Sr. and Francisquita Moya.
He attended Bernalillo Public School.
Tranquilino served in the Army until 1949 attaining the rank of Corporal.
On November 28, 1951 he married Rosella Martinez.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include his loving wife, Rosella; and children, Danny (Corliss), Raymond (Susie), Priscilla Orozco, Teresa Tanner; and daughter-in-law, Jennifer Romero.
He also leaves behind 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren that will miss him very much.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers and sisters; his son Joseph; son-in-law, Edward Orozco; grand-daughter, Sara Romero.
Linda Sue Keams
Holy Rosary for Linda Sue Keams 50, will be held at 9:30 a.m., Monday, May 3, 2010 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow, with Father Frank Chacon, officiating.
Interment will be in Desert View Cemetery.
Linda was born in Tuba City, Arizona on April 24, 1960.
She passed away on April 28, 2010 in Mesa, Arizona.
She was from Lower Greasewood Springs, Arizona.
She attended elementary and high school in Holbrook.
She attended Haskell Univeristy in Lawrence, Kansas and Berkley University in Long Beach, California.
She worked for Motorola in Mesa; Indian Wells Elementary School and the Hubbell Trading Post in Winslow.
She resided in Mesa, Arizona.
She was from the Kiyaa’aanii - Towering Rock People Clan; For: Kinlichiinii - Red House People; Her: Nalii = Totsohnii - Big Water; Her: Grandpa = Tsenjikini - Honey Comb Rock Clan.
She was preceded in death by her parents Bahe and Louise Keams and her grandmother Christine Joe.
She is survived by her daughter, Julianne Christine Keams; her brothers, Emerson Keams, Rickson E. Keams, and Nelson J. Keams; and her sisters, Katherine M. Davis and Grace C. Keams.
