Alejandro Nunez
Alejandro Havier Nunez, 49, formerly of Flagstaff, died suddenly July 2, 2009, in Tucson. He was born on April 24, 1959, to Manuel Nunez and Regina Havier.
He loved to travel and made friends wherever he went. He was a great friend and brother to all. Mr. Nunez is survived by his daughter; his sisters, Frances Nunez, Martha Nunez (Jaime), Manuela Valdivia (Armond), Yolanda Smith (James) and Lucinda Sanchez (Ray); his brothers, Michael Nunez (Susie), Ignacio Nunez (Barbra), Louie Nunez (Rose), Ramon Nunez (Joann), Danny Nunez (Dora) and Bobby Nunez; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, stepbrothers, stepsisters and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Manuel Nunez; mother Regina Havier; and brother Manny Nunez.
A service will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Adair Funeral Home, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd., in Tucson.
Monique Akar
Monique Akar, 74, died on July 4, 2009, after a hard fought battle with cancer. She was born on Sept. 12, 1934, in Chicago to Gustav and Edith Schaper.
She went to Hayward State University and graduated with Bachelor of Arts in education. She went on to earn a master's degree in fine art. She started Dogonit Gallery in 1984 and grew it into an international Internet business.
After moving to Flagstaff in 1991, she served as president, dog show chairman and on the board of directors of the Flagstaff Kennel Club. She was involved in Second Chance Center for Animals and as a member of the board. She help start Flagstaff Pet Assistance League, "FlagPAL" and was the president for many years. One of her many accomplishments was heading the building team for Flagstaff's off leash parks (bark parks).
She is survived by her brother, Ron (Jan); her children, Teri (Frank), TJ, Tim (Janine) and Todd (Liona); and many friends.
A memorial service will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Thorpe Bark Park, 600 N. Thorpe Road. The family invites everyone to bring their dog on leash.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the animal organization of your choice.
Willie Ruth Flemons
Willie Ruth Williams Flemons, 69, died July 9, 2009. She was born Aug. 11, 1939, in Oxford, La.
She was a homemaker, a free spirit, very generous, loved all people and spent her life serving God. Mrs. Flemons is survived by her husband, Lucky Flemons; daughters Janet Richie (Vincent) and Faye Owens of Flagstaff, Mary Tucker (Steve), Karen Owens, and Veronica Lester (Troy) of Phoenix, and Sharon Owens of Colorado; son Glen Owens of Colorado; brothers Ernest Thomas and Morgan Williams of Phoenix and Malik Abdulah of Los Angeles, Calif.; as well as by many nephews, nieces and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Sea Willow Williams; her father, Courtney Washington; her brothers, David Owens, Robert McGraw and Patsy Lee; and her sisters, Bessie Mae Garner and Phyllis Washington.
There will be a viewing on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m., at Norvel Owens Mortuary Chapel in Flagstaff. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday at 11 a.m., at Galilee Baptist Church in Williams. Condolences may be left for the family at www.norvelowensmortuary.com.

Crystal Pohl
Crystal L. Pohl, 48, of Flagstaff, died June 28, 2009. She was born on Nov. 18, 1960, in Phoenix, to Earl and Mary (Pence) Shaw.
Mrs. Pohl was an active member of the community. She loved life, nature and her family dearly. She is survived by her loving husband, Ray Pohl; daughter Elysia; son Raymond Pohl III; father Earl Shaw; sister Cindy Shaw; brother Mike Shaw; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Shaw.
A celebration of her life will be at a later date.

Adam Bowman
Adam David Bowman, 29, of Flagstaff died of a pulmonary embolism on July 11, 2009, in Casper, Wyo., while visiting his family.
Adam was born April 27, 1980, in Douglas, Wyo. While he spent most of his school years in Casper, graduating from Natrona County High School in 1998, he also attended Coconino High School in Flagstaff. He was involved with both hockey and baseball in Flagstaff and Wyoming. On Feb. 8, 1999, his son, Tanner Patrick Bowman, was born. While working in Tucson he met the love of his life, Amanda Lynn Kuitert. They presented their families with a daughter, Lily Shea Bowman, on May 19, 2004. They moved to Flagstaff in 2006, when he was promoted to store manager with Pizza Hut, a company he grew with for six years. On Oct. 6, 2007, Adam and Amanda celebrated their wedding in Las Vegas.
Adam is survived by his wife, Amanda; children Tanner and Lily of Flagstaff; father and stepmother, David and Jean (Richmond) Bowman of Flagstaff; mother and stepfather Susan and Sonny Rone of Casper; grandparents Gordon and Marjorie Bowman of New York, Sonya Richmond of New Jersey, Frank Humes of Wyoming, and Marvin and Adrienne Rone of Wyoming; sister Kaitlin Bowman of Flagstaff; brothers Joe Bowman of Flagstaff, Marvin (Jana) Rone, Michael (Star) Rone, all of Casper, and Matthew (Tina) Rone of Grand Forks, N.D.; brother-in-law William Kuitert, mother-in-law Midge Thomas and father-in-law Gary Kuitert, all of Tucson; as well as numerous aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins and a lifetime of friends. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Albert Richmond, and grandmother Donna Humes.
Adam will be remembered for his laughter, big smile, love of the New York Mets, golf and politics. He will always be loved and greatly missed.
A celebration of his life will be Saturday, July 25, at 4 p.m. at Bushmaster Park (north ramada).

Terry Moody
Terry Lynn Moody, of Ash Fork, was born Sept. 2, 1960, and died March 26, 2007.
She was devoted to her family and her horses. She was an "extreme cowgirl" with a strong will. She was most comfortable in the outdoors with nature and at her post office. She was a friend to all and served her community with pride and selflessness. The family hopes everyone who remember Terry for her love and joy and the beautiful woman she was. She is survived by three children, Stephen Banta, Joanna Banta and Shelley Clayton; and eight grandchildren.
A public visitation will be Tuesday, April 3, at 1 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center, 625 Cherry Ave., Flagstaff, with services to follow at 2 p.m.

Ian Bryant
Ian Lionel Bryant, 82, formerly of Flagstaff, died on June 11, 2009, in St. George, Utah, following a stroke. He was born in Albuquerque, N.M., on March 18, 1927, to Walter Bryant and Nesta McKechnie Bryant.
He married Lyndella McLaws in August, 1952. They were sealed in the St. George (LDS) Temple in August, 2008. Mr. Bryant attended schools in Flagstaff and graduated from Arizona State College (now NAU) with a degree in business. His first job out of college was assistant manager of the Hotel Monte Vista in Flagstaff. He was also a business manager for El Paso Natural Gas-Rare Metals and the Tuba City Public Schools. In 1970, he returned to Flagstaff to manage the Quality Inn for 20 years. He and his wife retired to Sun Lakes, where he enjoyed the sun, golf, travel and family. The couple moved to Ivins, Utah, in 2004.
During World War II, Mr. Bryant served as a signal man in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific arena. He helped in the clean up of China after the Japanese surrendered. He returned home in 1946.
Mr. Bryant is survived by his wife Lyndella Bryant of Ivins, Utah; two daughters, Debora (Richard) Wilson of Orem, Utah, and Stephanie (John) of Springville, Utah; one son, Barry (Amber) Bryant of Mesa; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one great-granddaughter.
Services will be today at 11 a.m., in Ivins, Utah, at the Red Cliffs Second Ward Building of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, on Center Street. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will be on Wednesday in Orem, Utah.

Rowdy Briggs
Rowdy Lee Briggs died June 25, 2009. He was born May 9, 1966, in Flagstaff to John and Frances Briggs. Mr. Briggs made his home in Camp Verde, he lived most of his life in Arizona.
Rowdy is survived by one son, Tyler Briggs, and one daughter, Shea Briggs, of Camp Verde, and his parents of Tonopah Arizona. Rowdy is from a pioneer Arizona family. Mr. Briggs attended Flagstaff public schools as well as schools in Port Angeles, Wash., Rock Springs, Wyo., and Antlers Christian Academy in Antlers, Okla. He got his high school certificate while in the armed forces. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1984.
A service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, at the Park Side Community Church, 401 Camp Lincoln Road, in Camp Verde. Burial will be at the Clear Creek Cemetery.

Ella Seronde
Ella White Seronde, 61, of Flagstaff, died June 28, 2009, in Navajo. She was born Oct. 26, 1947, in Tuba City, to Charles and Sarah Yazzie. Her maternal clan is Tsinaajinii (Black Streak Forest People) and paternal clan is Kinyaa'aanii (Towering House People).
Mrs. Seronde was a longtime employee of WL Gore and Associates, was a loving mother and grandmother. She was a silversmith, weaver, a member of Native American Church and teacher. She is survived by her daughters, Sanora Isaac, Sarah Del Seronde and Caroline Marie Seronde; sons Jordan J. Isaac and Tsinajinni Jean Seronde; sisters Mamie Begay and Mary (Maloney) Oldman; brother Tony Yazzie; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m., Thursday at Citizens Cemetery, 1300 S. San Francisco St., with a reception to follow from 1 to 5 p.m., at Timberline Fire Department Station (Doney Park) on north Highway 89. Any donations kindly accepted and appreciated.
