Dorothy E. “Dot” Hatch

Dorothy E. “Dot” Hatch, 83, of Village of Oak Creek, died Monday, February 25, 2008.

She was born January 19, 1925 in Kansas City, KS to Roy Joseph and Edith Pearl (Knoblock) Pierce.

Dorothy was active for 20 years in The Ladies Golf Association at Oak Creek Country Club, having 6 holes in one during her lifetime and witnessed by each of her family members, and also a member of the Ladies Bridge Club.

She is survived by her sons, Greg Hatch of Sedona, AZ, Bruce Hatch of Spokane, WA, and Jeff Hatch of Atlanta, GA.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, Edmond “Ted” Hatch on January 19, 2006

She was cremated February 26, 2008.

In Lieu of flowers the family request donation to the charity of your choice in her name.

Dewey 'Leon' Boyd

Dewey 'Leon' Boyd, 89, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2008, at his home in Flagstaff.

Born in Forestburg, Texas, Leon met and married his beloved wife Mary while living in Amarillo in 1940. They moved to Flagstaff in 1947.

While in Flagstaff, they operated the Greyhound Bus Depot and later owned and operated Leon’s Liquor and Sporting Goods. They retired in 1974, and lived in Meadview, AZ, until Mary’s passing in 1997. Leon then moved to Camp Verde where he lived for several years along with his daughter Beth and her husband Dave. He became too ill to live there in February 2007, and he moved to Flagstaff to live with his daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Cal Magness, in the family home Leon had built in 1950.

Leon was a 58-year member of Flagstaff Masonic Lodge #7; a Past Patron of Grand Canyon Chapter #4, Order of Eastern Star; and was active with the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, serving as Rainbow Dad for many years. While in Flagstaff, Leon and Mary were members of Flagstaff Federated Community Church.

Leon is survived by his three daughters and their families: Beth Toraason of Camp Verde, Patricia (Richard) Mahan of Phoenix, Kathy (Calvin) Magness of Flagstaff; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Leon was loved by all who knew him. His indomitable spirit touched everyone he met, and he will be greatly missed.

Private memorial services will be held next week in Camp Verde. If desired, donations to Northland Hospice would be greatly valued (PO Box 997, Flagstaff AZ 86002-0997).

Elizabeth Lancaster Carsey

Elizabeth Lancaster Carsey, 99 years of age, died in Colorado Springs, CO on April 12, 2009.

Funeral to be held at 1 pm, Friday, April 17th at Trinity Heights Methodist Church.

She was born in Camaguey, Cuba to missionary parents on July 8, 1909. She spent many of her young years in Mexico as her parents ministered and taught at missionary schools. They were teaching in Chilhuahua, Mexico during the Mexican Revolution and were ordered to leave Mexico because of attacks from Poncho Villa’s forces. Her younger sister was born on the last train to leave Chiluahua that took Americans to safety.

The family returned to ministry in Mexico later. Her mother died when Elizabeth was 9 years old in Chiluahua, Mexico. She was the first of five children. They later lived in West Texas and New Mexico where she graduated from high school in Roswell, NM. She attended DePaul University in Green Castle, Indiana where she received her bachelor’s degree in teaching, majoring in English and music.

She married William Arnold Carsey in January 1938, and they were teachers in El Paso, TX and Seminole, TX also teaching in Arizona in Many Farms and Chinle.

They retired in 1975 to Flagstaff, AZ where Elizabeth became known as the Smokerise neighborhood “Grandma” and taught countless children piano.

Elizabeth spent many years as the volunteer in charge of the Flagstaff Blood Drive calling list, played piano and organ for weddings and churches including the Mexican Methodist Church. She taught English as a second language in the Flagstaff community. She was beloved by her family, friends and neighbors, and residents in Flagstaff until 2006 when she moved to Colorado Springs to share lodging with her sister. She has been a long-time member of the Trinity Heights Methodist Church.

Surviving Elizabeth are her sister Mary Jo Bennett of Colorado Springs, a brother, Jonathan Lancaster of Austin, TX, sons Weldon Alan (Dixie) of Flagstaff, Frank D. (Susan) of Bremerton, WA, Norman (Jean) of Las Cruces, NM, and Thomas (Jenny) of Miami, FL, 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death are her husband, William Arnold Carsey, brother Jamie Lancaster and sister Diantha Gates.

Louis (Louie) Civello

Louis (Louie) Civello, 78, of Seligman died on Monday, March 10, 2007 at the Flagstaff Medical Center.

Born April 16, 1929 in Queens, New York to Calogero and Alessandra (Calabrese) Civello.

Since his retirement he has been very faithful to his church. He had a great love for his many dogs and cared for countless number of friends in Seligman, AZ.

He will be missed by his many friends.

A visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 Saturday March 15, 2008 at St Francis Catholic Church, 104 W Schoney Rd, Seligman; AZ. Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 followed by interment at Seligman Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donation can be made to St. Francis Catholic Church, 104 W. Schoney Road, Seligman, AZ 86337

Mildred Babin

Mildred Babin, age 98, died Monday, April 11, 2005 in Flagstaff, Arizona.

She was born April 29, 1906 in Newark, New Jersey, daughter of William and Sadie Hopkins Spry.

Mildred married Jean Albert Babin on June 29, 1929 in New Jersey.

She grew up in Newark, New Jersey. She lived in Arizona for the last 10 years.

Mildred sang in the church choir and taught Sunday School at Watchung Presbyterian Church in Bloomfield, New Jersey, avid tennis player, awarded several medals for track and field, she could play the piano by ear and was frequently asked to play at the Golden Age Club in New Jersey.

Mildred is survived by her daughter, Mary L Babin of Flagstaff, and her two cats, Scooter and Missey.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Jean A Babin, sister, Pearl Warrender, brother, Richard Spry.

Graveside Services will be at East Ridge Lawn Cemetery in Clifton, New Jersey.

Interment will be at East Ridge Lawn Cemetery in Clifton, New Jersey.

Pauline Lefthand

Funeral Services for Pauline Lefthand, 41, will be Saturday, April 10, 2010 at 10:00 AM MST at Round Cedar Church. Officiating, Charlie Long, Jr. Interment at Round Cedar Cemetery.

Pauline was born June 23, 1968 in Winslow, AZ, she passed away on April 7, 2010 in Winslow.

She attended school in Utah, finished with a diploma. She was involved in many clubs such as, Native American softball, basketball and volleyball. She was very happy with her grandchildren, she loved them as much as she could. She loved the outdoors, and she loved each individual as much as she could.

She is survived by her spouse, Sammie Walker; son Kyle Walker; daughters, Pamela Manygoats, Deidre Tia Walker; parents Henry and Ann Lefthand; sisters, Rose Manygoats, Sherry Araiza, Betty James, Darlene James; brothers, Jerry Lefthand, Harvey Lefthand, Homer Lefthand and 2 grandchildren and well as many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by grandmother Nora Conn and her aunt, Irene Boone.

Edward Frank Schaeffer

Edward Frank Schaeffer, age 85, of Flagstaff Arizona passed away 03/28/09 in Glendale Arizona.

He was born 06/30/23 in Magdalena, New Mexico.

Eddie was preceded in death by of his wife of 50 years, Mary and is survived by his children, Irene Alonzo Glendale, AZ; Carol Schaeffer Prescott, AZ; Frank Schaeffer Seattle, WA; Jim Schaeffer Phoenix, AZ; Louise Schaeffer Santa Fe, NM; and Brenda Benavidez (Jose) Flagstaff, AZ; sisters Lucy Rondan, Cecilia Pearce and brother Leslie Schaeffer, 14 grand children 13 great grand children, and 2 great grand children on the way. Eddie served in the Civilian Conservation Corps Company 1837 from July 1940 to June 1941. He proudly served his country during WWII in Normandy, Northern France Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe. Services for Eddie will be held in Flagstaff AZ. Wednesday 04/01/09 Viewing from 8:30 am to 10:00 am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel, 224 Kendrick, Flagstaff, AZ, funeral mass at 10:00 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church followed by internment at the Calvary Cemetery.

Margaret Dorrington

Born in Ohlligs, Germany February 7, 1927.

In 1955 she arrived in America with her family and became a citizen in 1958. She considered America her home.

Her passion was living a spiritual life, her belief in god and sharing with others. She enjoyed playing piano, guitar and all types of music.

She made Arizona her home in 1963, and moved to Flagstaff in 1970 where she lived out the remainder of her years.

She will be greatly missed by all of the people she has touched.

She is survived by her son Tom Dorrington of Flagstaff, AZ, daughter Rosemary Willis of Phoenix, AZ, 1 granddaughter and 3 great-grandchildren

A celebration of her life will be announced at a future date.
