Teresa P. Duran

Teresa P. Duran’s life long dedication of love and faith to our Savior Jesus Christ was fulfilled by joining him in eternal life. Teresa passed comfortable in the loving care of Nannette Barreras on December 9, 2008 in their home.

Teresa was born in Guatemala on August 20, 1924, where she grew up. Her heart was filled with lave and care which inspired her to pursue her studies in nursing. Later she moved to Panama where she met and married her husband of 55 years, who was currently stationed with the US Army. They relocated to Flagstaff, AZ to raise their family.

Teresa committed her faith to St. Pius Catholic Church where she was a member of the Rosary Alter Society, Legion of Mary, the Church Chior and a Guadalupana. In addition she dedicated her time in managing the church Gift Shop.

Her passions consisted of spending time with her family. Caring for kids and the elderly, and her love of animals.

She is survived by her daughter Carmen (Ruben) Lopez, of Flagstaff, AZ her sons, Ceasar (Ingrid) Cardenas, of Highland, CA, Edward (Kathy) Duran of Flagstaff, AZ, caregiver and guardian angel Nannette (Issac) Barreras, of Flagstaff, AZ; 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren

She was preceded in death by her husband Margarito, father Felipe, mother Josefal, sisters Maria, Allisia, and Albertina

Teresa will be missed and loved.

Evening Vigil and Holy Rosary will be Sunday, December 14, 2008 at 7:30 pm at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 2257 E. Cedar Ave, Flagstaff, AZ. Funeral Mass will be held Monday, December 15, 2008 at 10:00 am at St. Pius X Catholic Church, interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Dr. Vasant V. Merchant

Dr. Vasant V. Merchant, 76, died May 8, 2009, in Sedona, AZ

Dr. Merchant was born September 11, 1933 in Bombay, India.

She is a retired Humanities Professor from NAU.

Dr. Merchant is survived by her sister Nirmala from India

A visitation will be Tuesday, May 12, 2009 from 3-6 pm, sharing of personal refleection regarding Dr. Merchant is welcome from 5-6 pm, at Lozano’s Flagstaff Mortuary, 2545 N. 4th Street, Flagstaff, AZ.

Paul Dent Bordwell

Paul Dent Bordwell, 86, of 2601 North Nelson Drive, Flagstaff, AZ, died peacefully at home after a short illness Sunday morning, August 3, 2008. He was preceded by his wife, Charlotte Joyce Pluckhahn Bordwell, and is survived by his three children, Theodore Allen Bordwell, Stephen Percy Bordwell, and Alice Caroline Bordwell Fulton Haugen, his six grandchildren, and a great-grandson. Paul was born in Iowa City August 28th, 1921, the son of Walter Percy Bordwell and Alice Yates Bordwell. He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1942, with a Bachelor of Arts in English with honors and election to Phi Beta Kappa. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII as a code clerk. After the war he joined Irving Trust and began a career as a security analyst. He later worked on Wall Street with Francis I. DuPont and Argus Research Corporation until he retired in 1986.

He was a passionate chess player with the Irving Trust chess club, an adept and compassionate bridge partner and for a number of years sang baritone with the Piermont Choristers. He served as the chairman of the Piermont Republican Party and in that capacity appointed the first African-American postmaster in New York State. He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.

Funeral service will be held Thursday August 7 at noon at Epiphany Episcopal Church, 423 North Beaver Street, Flagstaff. Contributions may be made to the University of Iowa Flood Relief Fund, www.uifoundation.org/btn-flood.

Andrew Brown Turner

Andrew Brown Turner, 54, former Flagstaff business owner, died Monday, Aug. 4, 2008, in Ash Fork.

Mr. Turner was born April 21, 1954, in Maryland. He owned Turner's World Auto Body in Flagstaff before moving the business to Ash Fork. He loved to work on old cars, fixing cars and painting with specialty paints. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.

Mr. Turner is survived by his wife, Judy; children Billie, Andy Jr., Josh and Robert; daughters-in-law Nicole and Mandy; four grandchildren; father Howard; brother Jim; and sisters Mary and Rosanna.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Doris.

Services will be Friday, at 6 p.m., at the Maine Consolidated School District school on Spring Valley Road in Parks.

Helen L. McCune

Helen L. McCune, 94, died Friday, August 8, 2008 at the Olivia White Hospice Home in Flagstaff, AZ

She was born February 14, 1914 in Greenfield, IN to William and Lillie (Furry) Strahl.

She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Redondo Auxiliary 935.

Helen is survived by her daughter Jean Fenby, of Phoenix, AZ, 13 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, 36 great great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband Walter McCune, sons; Jack and Phillip, daughter Phillis Homan.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, August 16, 2008 at 1:00 pm at Lozano’s Flagstaff Mortuary, 2545 N. 4th Street, Flagstaff, AZ.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Olivia White Hospice Home, PO Box 997, Flagstaff, AZ 86002 or to your favorite charity.

Aaron Patrick Montoya

On August 18, 2008 family and friends lost their loved one and special friend when Aaron Patrick Montoya passed away. Aaron was born on September 8, 1984 in Flagstaff, AZ to Wildine Rodriguez and Donald Montoya. He graduated from Flagstaff High School and worked for a period of time in Albuquerque, NM until he later moved back to Flagstaff and continued working in the Flagstaff Community.

Aaron is survived by his mother Wildine Rodriguez, his father Donald Montoya (Albuquerque, NM), his sister Landa Montoya, his niece Nevaeh Montoya, Grandfather Johnny Rodriguez, Grandmother Susie Snyder (Albuquerque, NM) and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.

Aaron’s smile and gentle soul will always be remembered with those that he came in contact with and as he continues his journey. Aaron enjoyed playing city league softball, fishing, hanging out with friends and playing with his niece Nevaeh.

Upon his death Aaron continued to give to others with the very special choice of Donation for Life. Family and friends are very proud of Aaron’s generosity and humbled by the wonderful work that Donate Life Arizona does. With the special gift that Aaron has provided at least four different people have a new start to their lives. We wish these people a happy and healthy life and know Aaron will live on forever in many different ways.

Stanley H. Brooks

Stanley H. Brooks, 77, of Flagstaff, died Monday, May 11, 2009.

Stanley worked for the Mountain Line as a bus driver up to the day he died.

He is survived by his daughter, Angela Brown, his stepsons Mike Brooks, Leonard Milne, Art Milne, Tom Milne, 12 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

Visitation will be Monday, May 18, 2009 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Lozano’s Flagstaff Mortuary, 2545 N. 4th St., Flagstaff, AZ

John H. (Hank) Williams

John H. (Hank) Williams, 70, died December 30, 2008 in Phoenix, AZ

Born December 10, 1938 in Summit, NJ to John Rudolph and Laura Octavia (Steven) Williams.

John became president of Union Laboratories in 1964, was a councilman of Marlboro Township from 1968- 1976, he moved to Flagstaff in 1988, loved history and the southwest lifestyle, old cars always wanted to help others in need most of his friends are lifetime friends.

He is survived by his loving wife Susan William, daughter Jennifer Amatruto, stepson Brandon C. Barber, 2 grandchildren, cousin Alice and nice Kim

John is preceded in death by his parents John and Laura Williams

A memorial Service will be held February 6, 2009 at 6:00 pm at Lozano’s Flagstaff Mortuary, 2545 N. 4th Street, Flagstaff, AZ

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to any non-kill animal shelters of your choice in John’s name.
