Gail Diane Boatman
1953 - 2009
Gail Diane Boatman, 56, of Cornville died December 21. She was born September 17, 1953 in Coronado, California.
She attended Cottonwood elementary schools and was a 1971 graduate of Mingus Union High School.
She worked as a waitress, in retail work and at Verde Floral.
She enjoyed reading, handcrafts and gardening.
Gail leaves two sons, Gary Boatman (Felicia) of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Brian Boatman of Mesa; her daughter Cherisse Davidson of Tracy, California; her father and stepmother Sam and Shirley Erwin and her mother, Isobel Merchen; brothers John Erwin (Susan) of Ft. Worth, Texas and Mark Erwin (Vanessa) of Bremerton, Washington; two grandchildren Charli and Luke; and longtime friend Darlene Calvert.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan, 2, in the Westcott Funeral Home at 3 p.m. A reception will follow in the funeral home reception room.

Josephine M. DiGiorgio
1942 - 2009
Josephine M. DiGiorgio, 67, of Cornville, died Dec. 27. She was born Oct. 22, 1942, in Great Bend, Pa., the daughter of Clarence Eden Wood and Mary K. Wood.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William James DiGiorgio and her parents.
She is survived by sons James Eads (Judy) of McHenry, Illinois and William J. DiGiorgio of Phoenix; daughters Karen Eads of Cornville and Mary Jo Fedewa (Joe) of Lyons, Michigan; granddaughter Dallas Marie Eads (who her grandmother raised as a daughter); a brother George Wood (Aretha) of Pennsylvania; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and a significant other, John Lowe of Queen Creek.
A memorial service will be held in Illinois at a later date.

Lt. George ‘Pete’ Petrovitz
1928 - 2009
Lt. George “Pete” Petrovitz, U.S. Navy, Retired.
Born July 28th, 1928 in New York City, N.Y. Died December 20, 2009. He was 81 years old. He is survived by daughter Christine Pearson of Topsham, Maine; son Robert Petrovitz of Brunswick, Maine; son Richard Petrovitz of Gautier, Mississippi; daughter Teresa Petrovitz Kane of Windham, Maine; granddaughter Shelly Petrovitz of Orlando, Florida; sister Regina Gavlak of Perry, N.Y.; and sister Carole Theurich of Corning, N.Y. He is preceded in death by his wife Mariam “Toni” Petrovitz.
“Pete” enlisted in the Navy in 1945 and was serving on his first submarine at the age of 17. He is a veteran of WWII, Korea, Vietnam and a lot of “Cold War” submarine operations. He was a “mustang”, advancing thru the ranks to retire as lieutenant in 1970. He was most proud of his 15 years of service on fleet type diesel submarines.
He was a life member of Submarine Veterans of WWII and U.S. Submarine Veterans, Inc; a member of the U.S. Naval Institute, U.S. Fleet Reserve, the Military Officers Assoc., life member of VFW Post 7400 of Cottonwood, member of American Legion Post 25 of Cottonwood, Moose Lodge 1449 of Clarkdale and a life member of BPOE 934 of Bath, Maine.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, January 6 in the Immaculate Conception Church at 10:30 AM.
His remains will be cremated and his ashes spread at sea.

Lawrence R. Smouse
1939 - 2009
Lawrence R. Smouse, 70, of Cottonwood died December 16. He was born May 18, 1939 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Stanley and Bessie Smouse.
He was a member of the Verde Baptist Church. He enjoyed fly-fishing and camping with family served in the Awana Program for 13 years. He loved working with the children, helping them learn the Bible verses. He was a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather and a devoted Christian.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jo-Ann; sons Kory (Denise) of Cave Creek and Dan (Raine) of Idaho Falls, Idaho; a brother Frank (Lola) of Phoenix; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, January 5 in the Verde Baptist Church at 2 p.m.

Alton E. Anthony
1909 - 2009
Alton E. Anthony, 100, of Cottonwood died December 19. He was born May 21, 1909 Alabama, the son of Frank and Mamie (Parker) Anthony.
Mr. Anthony worked in produce. He later had a cattle ranch in Litchfield, California, and raised cattle, hay and alfalfa.
He was had served as a council member and a Sunday School Superintendent. He enjoyed reading and working in the yard where he had a green thumb.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Vearl E. Anthony; brothers Albert Anthony, Ediie Anthony, Lilly Head (and her husband Floyd), Bertha McBee (and her husband George), and Vera Mae Fort (and her husband Miles).
He leaves his wife of 76 years, Mildred; son Paul L. Anthony of Salinas, California; a daughter Judy A. Duncan (James) of Rio Linda, California; William Anthony (Lorraine) of Placerville, California; a brother Robert Jackson of Phoenix; six grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, December 23 in the Heritage Memorial Park in Dewey at 1:30 p.m.

Sylvia Meadows
1908 - 2009
Graveside services will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 3700 River Blvd. for Sylvia Meadows.
Sylvia was born August 28, 1908 in Grass Valley, Oregon to John and Elizabeth Dunlap.
She passed away December 6, 2009, in Los Angeles, CA. She was a former resident of Bakersfield, moving to Los Angeles in 1985. Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband Virgil Meadows and her granddaughter Dorie.
She is survived by her daughter Betty Woehl of San Francisco, her son Doran Meadows of Clarkdale, Arizona, and her daughter Donna Dryden of Los Angeles; four grandchildren, Gay, Lynn, Venda and Sylvia; four great grandchildren, Alex, Elizabeth, Kevin and Krystal; and her nephew Edwin Peters.
Sylvia will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by her loving family. The family would like to thank Joyce Williams for her loving home care.

Garriott Wallbridge

Garriott Wallbridge, 80, of Cottonwood died December 15. He was born August 29, 1929 in Ellensburg, Washington.
He served his country in the Air Force and the Marine Corps during the Korean War.
He loved model trains.
He leaves his wife of 55 years, Joanne; a son Gerald Wallbridge of Costa Mesa, California; daughters, Lori Wallbridge of Rancho Cordova, California and Terri Cervantes (Tino) of Costa Mesa, California; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
