Roberta A. Brown, 88 of Cottonwood, passed away on July 31, 2011.
She was born on April 25, 1923 in Springfield, MA to Robert and Alice (Miller) Bailleul.
Roberta worked as a legal secretary and minister's wife. She was a seamstress and enjoyed sewing and reading. She was well loved by all.
Roberta is preceded in death by husband Clarence Brown and 4 siblings: Robert, Ray, Gilbert and Shirley. She is survived by sons Steven Brown (Wendy) of Flagstaff, Raymond Brown (Eileen) of Phoenix and Jonathan Brown (Suzanne) of Flagstaff; daughters Sandra Drane (Bud) of Cottonwood and Paula Valentine (Jerry) of Peoria; sisters Marjorie Miller (Robert) and Betty Ann Cardinal; 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at Greenwood Memorial Lawn, 2300 W. Van Buren St. Phoenix at 11:00am.

Eileen Grace Ekberg
1915 - 2011
Eileen Grace Ekberg, 95, of Camp Verde, Arizona passed away on July 14, 2011, in Cottonwood, Arizona. Eileen was born on the family homestead, near Carter, Montana on Nov. 28, 1915.
She was the daughter of Willis and Nellie (Mitchell) Major. She was united in marriage to Howard G. Ekberg, on June 2, 1938, in Douglas, WI.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Howard of 64 yrs and son, James, who both passed away in 2002, her father and mother, two brothers Ray and Robert and sisters, Bethel Hall and Marjorie Hall, two grandsons Ronald and Donald Jones.
Eileen is survived by her daughter, Helen and husband, Ray Jones of Lead, S. D. and daughter-in-law Betty Ekberg of Plano, Texas; grandchildren: Dene Jones of Chandler, AZ, Terri and husband, William Blackert of Olathe, KS.
Jamie and husband Sean Snyder and Eric Ekberg of Phoenix, AZ, step-grandson, Clay Wells Holley, of NYC, great-grandchildren, Justin Blackert and wife Lara, of Olathe, KS & Greg Blackert of Clinton, IA, Jamie’s daughter, Cassandra, one sister, Gladys and husband, Harold Bethke of Platteville, WI. Eileen graduated from Westfield High School and Westfield Teachers Training School in 1935 and attended Central State Teachers College in Stevens Point, WI, 1939 and 1940.
She loved teaching and taught grades 1-8 in a country school. Owned and operated a very successful private Preschool and Kindergarten.
Taught at Christ the King Lutheran School and worked for Head Start in Cottonwood, AZ.
She had held office as a member of the Garden Club and Property Owners Association in Verde Lakes and Sr. Citizens Center of Camp Verde, AZ.
She is survived by many who loved her and will miss her. Eileen’s family would like to thank Best of Europe Adult Care Home and Sedona Hospice for their care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to RTA Sedona Hospice, Sedona, AZ.

Adelia Grace Bracken
1928 - 2011
Adelia Grace Bracken, 82, of Cottonwood passed away August 2, 2011. She was born September 22, 1928 in Newark, Ohio.
Adelia was a registered nurse, and retired as the supervisor of surgery from Palm Drive Hospital in Sebastapol, California in 1988. She and her late husband John Dryden were married on October 2, 1949; they enjoyed 61 years of marriage.
The two lovebirds spent a decade after their retirement traveling as Escapees around the United States and Mexico with their RV.
Adelia was loved by all who came in contact with her. She never saw a stranger and had a smile and something nice to say to everyone she met. Adelia and John lived all around the United States; they had a rich and varied tapestry of experiences. She taught line dancing as she and John traveled the globe until they made their home at Rainbows End in Livingston Texas, where they enjoyed 15 years with wonderful friends all around them.
Adelia is survived by son John Thomas and Ann Bracken (Petersburg, Pa), daughters, Carol Ann and Joshua Capy (Cottonwood, Az., and Elaine Kay and Mark Johnsen (Burke, Va). Her twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren will miss her sweet presence.

Carolyn Noll
1938 - 2011
Carolyn Noll, age 72 died on Aug. 16, 2011.
Carolyn was born, November 3, 1938 in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
She moved to Camp Verde in 1987.
She graduated from Kellyville High School in Okla. She worked in hospital medical records for years and owned the K-9 Konnection dog grooming in Camp Verde.
Carolyn was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 6739 and served as trustee. Also, a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 93. A former member of the Camp Verde Chamber of Commerce.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Fay Lavender, of Camp Verde. She is survived by her cherished companion, Howard Engel, two sons, Derek Romine, Camp Verde, and Devin Romine (Sandy), Kellyville, Oklahoma. Also survived by for Grandchildren and four Great Grandchildren.
Graveside service will be at Middle Verde Cemetery, Saturday Aug. 20, at 10 a.m..

Gene Roth
1934 - 2011
Eugene (Gene) LeRoy Roth passed into God’s eternal kingdom on Saturday, April 23, 2011 in Cottonwood, AZ.
He was born March 25, 1934 in Sterling, CO. He lived in Ft. Morgan, CO through his school years and graduated from Ft. Morgan High School in 1953.
He served in the United States Navy from January 1956 through January 1958 and was stationed aboard the U.S.S. Piedmont.
Gene and Joan K. Jaeger were married in Ft. Morgan, CO on June 28, 1958 at Trinity Lutheran Church.
Gene worked in sales positions in Ft. Morgan, Brush and Longmont, CO. In 1974 the family moved to Salinas, CA where he worked in sales at Salinas Valley Appliance. He entered into partnership with Salinas Valley Appliance and opened Gilroy Appliance and TV in Gilroy, CA. He closed the store in 1996 and worked in conference room sales for area motels until he retired and he and his wife returned to Ft. Morgan, CO in 1998. He worked part times for the Ft. Morgan Times until 2002 when they built their new home in Cottonwood, AZ and moved there in November 2002.
He loved Arizona and enjoyed working in his yard and greeted all who walked or drove by. His neighbors enjoyed his whistling when he was out in his yard or patios. He enjoyed life, yard and estate sales and his collections and traveling. He “never met a stranger” and was known as a “hugger”.
When they moved to Cottonwood they joined Spirit of Joy Lutheran Church. He served as a greeter and usher and was on the Building Committee and was excited to walk through the front door of their new worship facility. The new worship center is currently being built.
Gene is survived by his wife, Joan (Cottonwood); son and daughter-in-law David and Kathy Roth (Whitmore, CA); grandchildren Ahren and Abra Roth; son and daughter-in-law Mark and Karen Roth (Salinas, CA); granddaughters Ashley and Emily Roth; cousins Geri Coffey, Hermie Fox and Teri Roth, all of Colorado and many extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother and step-father Ida and Leslie Spotts and brother-in-law Russell Roberts.
The Celebration of Gene’s Life will be held on Friday, July 29, 2011 at 2:00pm at Westcott Funeral Home. 1013 E. Mingus Ave, Cottonwood, AZ. Memorials are directed to Spirit of Joy Building Fund, 101 S. Main St., Suite D, Cottonwood, AZ 86326.

Wayne Bechtel
1917 - 2011
Wayne Bechtel, 94, of Cottonwood died July 24, 2011.
He was born May 23, 1917 in Glencoe, Oklahoma, the son of Eslie and Jesie Bechtel.
He worked 52 years for Helmrich & Payne Oil Company in Oklahoma in many functions over his career.
Wayne is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Bechtel.
He is survived by a son, Charles Bechtel (Naomi) of Cottonwood; a sister Norma Slaughter of Portland, Oregon; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 2 in the Westcott Funeral Home at 1 PM. Inurnment will follow at All Souls Cemetery.
