Deacon James T. Anderson
1940 - 2011

Deacon James T. Anderson, 70, Wahpeton, N.D., passed away Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011 at St. Francis Healthcare Campus, Breckenridge, MN.

The Funeral Mass was Thursday, August 18, 10:30 a.m., at St. John’s Catholic Church, Wahpeton.

The arrangements are with Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND.

James Thomas Anderson was born Sept. 21, 1940, in Breckenridge, Minn., the son of Simon and Genevieve (Dietz) Anderson.

He attended school at St. John’s Elementary School.

He graduated from Wahpeton High School in 1959.

He entered the US Marines where he served for the next 20 years receiving the Meritorious Unit Commendation, Vietnam Service Medal, and Combat Action Ribbon among other citations and served as Drill Instructor throughout his tenure.

After his Honorable Discharge he settled in Cottonwood, where he married Theresa Walker in 1981.

He worked at a Home Center and Lumber Yard until he retired in 2003.

During this time he became a Permanent Deacon of the Catholic Church.

Theresa and Jim moved to Wahpeton in 2008 where he currently served as Deacon with St. John’s Catholic Church. Jim’s passion was making rosaries, which he gave to military chaplains to share with U.S. troops.

He enjoyed the outdoors especially fishing and gardening.

Jim was an avid student of the Big Band Era remembering trivia from that time span.

Jim is survived by his wife Theresa Anderson, Wahpeton, ND; three step children: Daniel Walker, Roy, WA; Sabrina (Sam) Alvey, Glasgow, KY; Johnny (Monya) Walker, Magnolia, KY; six step grandchildren, and four step great-grandchildren.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, and his two brothers, Monsignor John Anderson and Charles Anderson.

Vertin-Munson Funeral Home in Wahpeton, N.D. assisted the family.

Eddy Read White
1952 - 2011

Eddy Read White, 59, of Phoenix, AZ passed away on July 24, 2011. He was born in Price, UT on May 19, 1952 to Samuel Read and Lawanii White. He moved to Cottonwood with his family in June 1960 where he attended school and graduated from Mingus Union High School. He attended Brigham Young

University and served a mission to New Zealand for the Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp. He is survived by his mother, Lawanii White, two sisters, Elaine Allred (Dale) and Karma Edens (Preston), two nieces and six nephews, and 18 great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Read White, and one nephew. He was buried at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, Cave Creek, AZ.

Frances R. Woodley
1923 - 2011

Frances R. Woodley, 87, of Lake Montezuma died August 9, 2011 in Lake Montezuma. She was born October 12, 1923 in Jamestown, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Frank Lee Groce and Ruth Groce.

She served her country in the Coast Guard during World War II.

She leaves two sons, Earl N.Woodley and Paul D. Woodley, both of California; and a daughter Donna J. Woodley of Rimrock.

Private family services will be held.

John Steenhoven
1932 - 2011

John Steenhoven, 78 of Cottonwood, passed away on August 4, 2011. He was born on December 24, 1932 in Orange City, Iowa to Nick and Johanna Steenhoven.

John was a Staff Sergeant in the Marines during the Korean War. He worked for Greene's Ready Mix in Torrance, California.

John is survived by his wife Lilyan Steenhoven of Cottonwood; daughters Debra Porter (Larry) of Cottonwood, Karen Newberg (Scott) of Fountain Valley, CA, Janice Acevedo (Frank) of Long Beach, CA, Valerie Darensburg (Jason) of Albuquerque, NM; 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service wias held on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at Westcott Funeral Home.

John Michael 'Mike' Graham
1944 - 2011

John Michael "Mike" Graham, 67, of Goodyear passed away July 27. He was born May 4, 1944 in Hollywood, California.

He and Glenda had been together since they were 14 years old, As a younger man, he and Glenda were in the 20/30 Club. It was for young adults in their 20's and 30's and they did community service. He and Glenda lived in Cottonwood for 25 years and he worked for Oak Creek Ranch School, Cliff Castle Casino and was a business owner.He said Glenda was the only person he needed in his life.

He loved singing in his youth.

He was an avid poker player and most of his friends came from poker.

He particularly enjoyed taking his children on vacations. He also had great memories of taking his granddaughter Victoria on vacations. One disappointment is he did not get the chance to do the same with Colin. However, he did teach Colin how to fish and took him on short day excursions.

He went by the name Mike. Grandchildren called him Pa. Colin said he missed Pa so much and he will be very sad when he's not around.

He is preceded in death by his father, Robert Moore Graham; mother Dorthea Florence Graham; his father and mother-in-law Clarence Edward Mills and Olive Cornelia Mills, who were very important in his life; son James Michael Graham; and his favorite animals Johnathan the cat and Cinnamon the dog.

Had three children - Bonnie, James (deceased at 4 years old in 1981) and Benjamin. Two grandchildren Victoria age 13 and Colin age 7. They are the children of Bonnie and Patrick Hooker.

A visitation will be held Saturday, August 6 in the Westcott Funeral Home at 9 a.m. folllowed by the funeral at 10 a.m. Burial will follow the funeral in Cottonwood Cemetery. A recpetion will be held at the Westcott Funeral Home after the burial.

Carol Blaich
1945-2011

Carol Janet Blauert Blaich, born December 26, 1945, in Frazee, Minnesota, died July 14, 2011 in Edmonds, Washington. Carol was the youngest of Emil and Bertha Blauert's three children and grew up on their dairy farm in rural Minnesota.

Carol studied nursing and became a Registered Nurse in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She later went on to receive her Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology at the University of Minnesota and a Master of Arts in sociology from Northern Arizona University.

She married Keith Blaich in 1972 and had two daughters. In 1979, along with her family, Carol moved to Arizona where she worked in county health and elder care while raising her children. She served on the first town council of Camp Verde, Arizona and later as the town's vice mayor. She was involved in county planning, arts programming, and hospice services.

Carol moved to Washington in order to be closer to her oldest daughter and two granddaughters and continued her work with elder care at both ElderHealth Northwest and the Crisis Clinic. She was an advocate for the elderly and worked tirelessly for the dignified treatment of seniors.

Carol loved her family and was happy to be a vibrant part of her granddaughters' lives. She was passionate about reading and enjoyed sharing book recommendations with friends and family. She was also an avid movie fan and was fiercely competitive in her family's annual Oscar competition. Carol also enjoyed travel, politics, needlepoint, and her pets.

Carol is survived by her brothers, Harry and David Blauert; her daughters, Tavia Tan and Tamara Blaich; and their father, Keith Blaich; her sons-in-law Andre Tan and Seth Flaum; her grand-daughters, Fiona and Amelia Tan; as well as nephews, nieces, extended family and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2pm on Thursday, July 21, at Beck's Funeral Home, 405 Fifth Ave. S, Edmonds, Washington. 425-771-1234.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sno-Isle Libraries Foundation or Kiva.org.
