Eleanor J. Zimbaro left this world and is now at peace. Loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother died on 9/28/1010.
Eleanor was born in Auborn, Indiana, graduated from Ball State University and moved to Arizona where she taught elementary school and raised her four children: Frank, John, Rosalie (Kern) and Tony.
After her husband John passed away, she moved to Cottonwood where she was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish and a long-time volunteer Pink Lady at Verde Valley Medical Center.
Eleanor is survived by her four children, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
She was greatly loved and missed.

Billy J. Dixon

Billy J. Dixon, 84 of Camp Verde died Sept. 28, 2010 in Cottonwood. He was born in Throckmorton, Texas on July 6, 1926. No service or burial information provided.
Dorothy Culp Arnold
1924 - 2010
Dorothy Culp Arnold, 86, of Cottonwood died September 21, 2010. She was born August 15, 1924 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Peter and Carla Ehrhardt.
She had worked as a secretary in the San Gabriel Schools in California, retiring in 1986.
Her parents preceded her in death.
She leaves her husband of 28 years, Eddy Arnold.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 26 in the Westcott Funeral Home from 4-6 PM.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 27 in the Westcott Funeral Home at 11 AM.
Burial will be in Rose Hills Cemetery in Whittier, California later in the week.

Arnold McLean
1919 - 2010
Arnold McLean passed away at the age of 91 at his home in Cottonwood, Arizona, on September 14, 2010, following a long battle with cancer.
Arnie was born in Superior, Wisconsin, on May 6, 1919, and he grew up with his brother Mickey and sister Muriel in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Kansas.
In 1942, he married Eleanor Hedin in Minnesota and they had two daughters before moving to Southern California in 1951. Two sons were added to the family in 1957 and 1958.
Arnie and Eleanor remained in Southern California (except for a 15-month period when they lived in Sweden) until retirement, when they moved back to Minnesota before finally settling in Cottonwood, Arizona, in 2001. Arnie was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He was very industrious and enjoyed working with his hands and helping others, as evidenced by his volunteer work at the Food Bank of Cottonwood.
Arnie is survived by four children: Karin Johnson of Berlin, Maryland, Kathy Case of Redding, California, Dan McLean of Phoenix, Arizona, and Gary McLean of Tijuana, Mexico, seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Mickey McLean of Minnesota.
Arnie was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Eleanor McLean, who passed away in December 2009; and his sister Muriel Lee.
A memorial service was held Saturday, September 18, at the Cottonwood Seventh-Day Adventist Church located at 51 West Mingus Avenue, Cottonwood, AZ 86326.

Thelma Rose Foss
1932 - 2010
Thelma Rose Foss, 78, of Cottonwood died Sept. 5. She was born May 11, 1932 in Alhambra, California, the daughter of Frank Joseph Hall and Rose Winifred Doidge Hall.
She was a graduate of Manual Arts High School. She worked as a dietitian and cook.
She loved dogs and cats and liked to sew and crochet. A very good cook, she was especially known for her cheesecake, pumpkin chiffon and mincemeat pies.
She leaves her sons Frank W. Foss (Irene) of Cottonwood, Jay E. Foss (Emma) of Santa Ana, California and Kory G. Foss (Betsy) of Las Vegas, Nevada; a daughter Marlene M. Foss-Anderson (Keith, Sr.) of Moreno Valley, California; a sister Mildred Rubsch of Bakersfield, California; ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Memorial services are pending in Riverside, California.

Chester M. Rau
1929 - 2010
Chester M. Rau, 81 of Cottonwood, passed away on September 16. He was born on March 31, 1929 in Hartford, Connecticut to Frank and Rose Rau.
Chester attended Rockville High School in Vernon, Connecticut. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, gardening, cooking and the Phoenix Suns. He also attended Calvary Chapel in Cottonwood. His faith in God and love for family defined his life. There was a special bond of love between his children and grandchildren and all others who were privileged to know him.
Chester is survived by his wife Shirley, whom he has loved for 20 years. He is also survived by sons Peter M. Rau (Pamela) of Massachusetts, Steven P. Kuck (Debbie) of Phoenix, Albert C. Kuck of Arizona; daughters Allison Rau Matczak (Joseph) of Connecticut, Gretchen Rau Richard (Stephen) of Indiana, Sharma Lee Rau Anzar (Manny) of Phoenix Sandra J. Smith (Steve) of Phoenix, Gail M. Larkin (Daniel) of Phoenix; brothers and sisters Irene Tupper of California, Walter Rau of California, Pat Colfield (Jack) of Connecticut; sister-in-law Ruth Rau of Phoenix; 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 26 at 2:00 PM at Calvary Chapel, 465 S. Calvary Way, Cottonwood, AZ.

John (Jack) William Dettman, Sr.
1938 - 2010
John W. Dettman, 72, of Cottonwood, died Sept. 16, 2010. He was born Aug. 26, 1938, in Davenport, Iowa, to Lester Dettmann and Ruth Anderson Dettmann.
Jack entered into the Air Force at age 17 and served our country for 10 years. He was crew chief when he left the service and returned home to Davenport.
He moved to Phoenix, AZ, in 1972 and went to work as a quality engineer for an aerospace firm.
John retired in 2000 and moved with his wife to the Verde Valley where he has enjoyed his retired life. He was very artistic and took up gourd crafting. He loved to tell people he was a “Gourdist” and could often be found at the Farmers Market selling his beautiful gourds.
His wife, Linda, of 29 years, survives Jack. He is also survived by his son, John W. Dettman, Jr. of Greenville, TX; granddaughter, Amber Dettman, Pueblo, CO and two great grandchildren; sisters Theresa Durant of Davenport, IA; Mary Dostal (Gus) of Rice Lake, WI; Sharon Morris of Green Valley, AZ; brother Jim Wickman (Leesa) of Davenport, IA and numerous nieces and nephews.

George Kappers
1913 - 2010
George Kappers, age 97, of Peoria, AZ, formerly of Cottonwood, AZ, died Tuesday October 5, 2010 at Amethyst Arbor in Peoria.
He was born August 19, 1913 in Fillmore Co., MN to Ben and Anna (Goodwinson) Kappers.
George attended country school through the eighth grade and was united in marriage to Sabina E. Eggerichs on June 19, 1937 in Lewiston, MN. After their marriage they lived near Peterson, MN.
George worked for the Rural Electric Association, REA. They later lived near Cherry Grove, MN where they farmed. George and Sabina moved to Hurley, SD where they purchased and ran the theater. After selling the theater they purchased a grocery store in Sherburne, MN.
In 1950 they returned to the Etna area where they farmed until moving into Spring Valley in 1967 when George went to work in construction until retiring to Cottonwood, Arizona in 1975. He is survived by two daughters, Nancy (Jim) Boettcher of Cottonwood, AZ and Joyce (Ruben) Sanchez of Peoria, AZ, 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 60 years, Sabina in 1997, twin grandsons, two brothers; Freddie and Francis and two sisters Doris Riddle and Pearl Funk. Funeral services will be held in Minnesota. Arrangements by Heritage Funeral Chapel.
