Robert Franklin Smith
1937 - 2011
Robert Franklin Smith, 74 of Cottonwood, passed away on May 10, 2011. He was born on April 26, 1937 in Hatch, New Mexico, to Everet F. and Gertrude Smith.
Robert worked for Goettl’s Air Conditioning as supervisor. He taught his children how to work, be honest and loyal.
Robert was faithfully in love with his wife Barbara for 28 years and helped take care of her autistic sons as his own prior to her death six years ago.
Robert was “one cool cat.”
Robert was preceded in death by wife Barbara J. Smith and his parents Everet and Gertrude Smith. He is survived by sons Nicolas Ray Smith (Alice) of Kansas and Steve Mathew Smith (Donna) of Arizona; daughter Trevadonna Ingersol (Casey) of Nebraska; brother Richard Stanley Smith of Arizona; many cousins in Georgia, California and Nevada; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

James ‘Jim’ R. McKinney
1949 - 2011
James “Jim” Richard McKinney will forever ride in peace; he passed on May 6, 2011 with family at his side.
Jim is survived by his wife and soul mate, of 21 years, Sheryl; his daughter, Savannnah Carleton McKinney and two grandsons, Aiden and Sawyer, the light of his life.
Jim was born in Rifle, Colorado, and grew up in Pueblo, Colorado. After high school he joined the US Navy and was a Viet Nam vet. Jim and Sheryl were the owner’s of “Jim & I’s Star Bar” in Colorado Springs and at Fillmore, Nevada, where they enjoyed good times, good friends and many great memories.
He was a lifelong Harley rider who enjoyed many years riding with friends, including trips to Daytona and Sturgis. Jim’s other loves were playing his guitar and being a devoted “Papa” to his beloved grandchildren.
After moving to Arizona in 1996 with his wife and daughter, he became a truck driver, then a mail carrier in Cottonwood.
He was a founding charter member of the American Legion Riders of the Verde Valley, Cottonwood Post#25. Jim also held the office of 2nd Vice Commander of Post#25.
Jim will be remembered and honored as a kind, fair, and loving man. Always able to make someone smile. He was a big teddy bear to his daughter, a jungle gym to his grandsons, and best friend to his wife.
Memorial services are to be 4 p.m. Saturday, May 21st at the American Legion Post #25, 480 South Calvary Way, Cottonwood, AZ 86326. All are welcomed that loved and cared for him.
Gary Ray Welch
1950 - 2011
Gary Ray Welch, 60, of Camp Verde passed away Saturday, May 7, 2011.
Gary was born August 22, 1950 in Phoenix, Arizona to the late Fred Dean and Martha Jane (Brandon) Welch.
Gary worked many years in for the Teamsters union and also as a horse trainer.
He is survived by his daughter, Amber Lee Churchman; his brothers, E. Mark Welch and Fred “Dusty” Welch; and three grandchildren.
Services for Gary will be 10:00 am Saturday, May 14, 2011 at Clear Creek Cemetery where he will rest.

Katherine Elizabeth Herring
1985 - 2011
Katherine Elizabeth Herring -- a granddaughter, daughter, mother, niece, cousin, friend, and soul mate, spread her wings on April 20, 2011. While on earth she left stardust and satin, empathy and compassion. She left her footprints on many a heart while dancing here on earth.
Katie left behind her lovely daughter, Lolah Grace, and her fiancé, Matthew Schilling, and his family.
Surviving loved ones include her grandparents, Jerry and Elli Smith of Flagstaff, AZ, and Tribune, KS; her mother, Juli, and father, Eric Herring; her aunt Susan McNelly, uncle John McNelly, and cousins Allison McNelly and Laura Burrows and her husband David and their son Mason Burrows, all of Flagstaff, AZ Her heart is etched on many friends from Arizona to Kansas and North Carolina.
A memorial has been established at Bank Of America in Flagstaff, AZ. for “Lolah Grace Hoffman.”
Services will be in Arizona on May 13, 2011, on her 26th birthday.

Howard Worth Harkey
1929 - 2011
Howard Worth Harkey, a native of Saskatchewan, Canada, passed away in Williamsburg, Virginia, May 7, 2011.
He was born February 13, 1929 in Saskatchewan to Gus and Mary Harkey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Ruth Tanner and by Roenelle Harkey, his beloved wife of over 50 years.
He was an Army veteran who served in Korea, a revered teacher and coach at Mingus Union High School in Jerome, Arizona for many years.
Upon retirement, Howard and Roenelle owned and operated Bass Lake Fishing Camp in Ontario, Canada. He made his final home in Sans Souci, a serene neighborhood near Windsor, North Carolina, where he loved fishing on the Cashie River.
Howard had a contagious sense of humor. His patience, compassion, diligence, and calm demeanor was loved, admired, and respected by family, students, and friends.
He is survived by his daughter, Penny Wilcox of Williamsburg, Virginia; his son Howard L. Harkey and wife Jean of Clarkdale, Arizona; six grandchildren: Courtney Harkey, Cody Harkey, Micheal Wilcox, and Scott Wilcox all of Cottonwood, Arizona, Robin Wilcox Almond and husband Jeremy of Clarksville, Tennessee, Eric McMillan and wife LaDawn of Whitehall, Montana. Howard had four great grandsons: Hunter, Walker, Gage, and Karsen McMillan also of Whitehall, Montana.
He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Services will be held at 2 P.M., May 21, 2011 at Lawrence Baptist Church in Windsor, North Carolina.

Robert (Bob) Vinson
1919 - 2011
Robert (Bob) Vinson, 1919 – 2011, died April 3 at his home in Cottonwood, Arizona. Vinson, 91, lived in Sedona, and was a volunteer at Sedona’s Red Rock State Park.
His ashes were scattered at the foot of Coffee Pot Rock.
He is survived by his daughter, Karin Ireland, and his son, John Vinson. Information provided by family members.
Amada Esquer
1933 - 2011
Amada Esquer, 77, of Cottonwood died April 8, 2011.
She was born October 31, 1933 in Aguablanca, Sonora, Mexico, the daughter of Eduardo and Gabriela Q. Pedrego.
Amada, to your family and friends you will be remembered forever (Amada-Tus hijos Familia y Amigos, Te recordaremos por siempre).
Her husband Roberto Esquer preceded her in death.
She leaves sons Eduardo Esquer (Maribel) of Sedona, Pedro Esquer (Elsa) of Cottonwood, Oscar Esquer (Liliana) of Sedona, Cesar Esquer (Maricela) of Tucson and Roberto Esquer of Agua Prieta, Sonoroa, Mexico; daughters, Teresa Castillo of Cottonwood, Francisca Serrano of Tucson, and Gabriella Serrano of Cottonwood; brother Abraham Pedrego of Tucson and a sister Eufemia Tarazon; and many grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, April 15 in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 10:30 AM.
Burial will be in Mexico.
