Nellie Scott
Nellie C. Scott, 88, died on Friday, Dec. 10, 1999. She was born on June 23, 1911 in Green County Washington Township, Ind., to Martin and Ethel (Grounds) Carmichael.
Nellie moved to Tucson from Indiana in 1992, and to Chino Valley in 1997.
She was a member of the Homewood Chapter Order of Eastern Star for 50 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband Albert, brother Virgil, and sisters Ruth Graves and Minnie Carmichael.
Nellie is survived by her son, Randel of Chino Valley; brother, Clyde Carmichael of Spencer, Ind.; and sister, Elsie Noragon of Martinsville, Ind.
Service and burial were held Thursday, Dec. 16 in Bloomfield, with burial in the Dog Island Cemetery in Lyons, Ind.
Ron Bashaw
Ronald Travis Bashaw, 59, died on Saturday, Dec. 11, 1999. He was born on Feb. 24, 1940 in Susanville, Calif. Ronald was a loving husband, son, brother, uncle and a true friend.
He moved to Arizona some 40 years ago, and worked in construction. He enjoyed running heavy equipment.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda of Chino Valley; brother, David of California; sister, Glenys Hewitt of Woodbridge, Calif. and mother and stepfather, Louise and Donald King.
Manny King
Emmanuel "Manny" King, 19, died on Dec. 16, 1999. He was born on July 11, 1980 in Mexico, to Ronald and Josephine (Lares) King. Though Manny lived only 19 years he had the ability to touch the hearts of all who knew him. Manny and his parents moved to Chino Valley from Chula Vista, Calif., in December 1987.
Manny graduated from Chino Valley High School and worked for Yavapai Exceptional Industries in Prescott for a year. He was a lover of sports, most any type but especially basketball. Whenever he could, Manny would play full-court basketball with his friends. While at home, Manny enjoyed playing video games of all types.
He was proud of his work and the many friends he made in his brief life. Manny will be greatly missed by his family and the many friends he has made in his life.
Survivors includ his parents, Ron and Josephine King of Chino Valle;, sisters, Monica Carlson of Germany, Sandra Pierce of Kentucky, Vannessa Peterson of New Mexico and Zelina King of Chino Valley; brothers, Scott King of Prescott and Kyle King of Chino Valley; grandparents, Joe and Florence Jones of Whittier, Calif.
A private cremation will be at Bradshaw Crematory in Prescott Valley.
Robert Hayner
Robert "Uncle Bob" Hayner, 68, of Chino Valley, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 1999, at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix.
He was born Jan. 15, 1931, in Chicago, Ill., to LeRoy V. and Amalia (Dinkelacker) Hayner.
Mr. Hayner served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955 during the Korean conflict. He retired from Illinois Bell Telephone in 1986, where he had been a PBX installer.
He moved to Chino Valley in 1993 from Round Lake, Ill., and ran for a seat on the Town Council, winning in a recall election in March of this year to replace then Council Member Len Redding. He served until the end of Redding's term on June 30.
Mr. Hayner was a lifetime member of the Bobby Bisjak American Legion Post No. 40, the Moose Lodge and Illinois Bell Pioneers of America.
He loved to fish, but will be especially remembered for loving to garden and to cook, bake and can the produce from his garden.
He is survived by his daughters, Dawn Havemayer of Grays Lake, Ill., Beth Greenhill of Ingelside, Ill., and Chris Hayner of Antioch, Ill.; son, Keith of Grays Lake, Ill.; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, LeRoy, on April 17 of this year.
Visitation was 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home, Cortez at Carleton streets in Prescott. A celebration of Mr. Hayner's life was at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Rudy Gutierrez of the Paulden Christian Fellowship officiating. Concluding services, with full military honors by the Honor Detail of American Legion Post No. 40, was at 3:45 p.m. Saturday at Chino Valley Cemetery.
Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home helped the family with arrangements.
Dorothy Sutton
Dorothy D. Sutton, 83, died on Nov. 26, 1999 in Prescott.
She was born on Dec. 28, 1915 in St. George, Kansas, to John and Anna (Darnell) Campbell.
Dorothy has been an Arizona resident since 1945, and was a member of Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall of Tucson, Az. She was also an avid gardener.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Robert in 1974.
Survivors include her sons, Ralph Clayton of Chino Valley and O.J. Clayton of Tucson; daughters, Wanda Bisted of Farmington, N.M. and Betty Spink of San Diego; brother, Ronald Campbell of Chino Valley; sisters, Lillian Fleenor and Marion Estes, both of Oregon; 11 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.

Rebecca Edwards
Rebecca Lynne Edwards, 10 months died on November 20, 1999 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix. She was born on January 9, 1999 in Prescott, Arizona to Beau Jared Edwards and Jessica Marie Sherrill. Though Rebecca lived just 10 short months, she was the pride of her father and mother. Rebecca was the sixth living generation on the maternal side of the family. She was a happy baby with smiles for anyone who would look her way. Rebecca's short life didn't diminish the amount of love she provided to her parents. Rebecca will be greatly missed by her mother and father and all of the combined families, as well as anyone who she touched.
She is survived by her mother Jessica Marie Gray Sherrill and Beau Jared Edwards of Chino Valley, Arizona. Her paternal grandparents, Christy and Brad Edwards and maternal grandparents Julie and Alan Sherrill also of Chino Valley, Maternal great grandparents, John and Carol Adamson Burrison of California, maternal great-great grandmother Betty Masters Adamson of California, and maternal great-great-great grandmother, Catherine Corey of California.
Funeral services were held on Monday November 29, 1999 at Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home with Rev. H.D. Breyer officiating. Burial was at the Chino Valley Cemetery.
Dick Moine
Eugene "Dick" Moine, 84, died on November 25, 1999 at Yavapai Regional Medical Center in Prescott. He was born on March 21, 1915 in Nashua, Iowa to Lou and Margret Moine. Dick worked as a farmer fro 69 years, becoming a legal owner of his first farm at eight years old. He retired from farming in the fall of 1977 and moved to Prescott Valley from Nashua, Iowa. He married Margret Alene Richards, the woman of his dreams on November 25, 1942 and spend 56 wonderful years together. Dick was a member of Bradford Masonic Lodge #129 in Nashua, Iowa and the Chino Valley Community Church. Dick spent his life farming and tending to his many gardens, they were his life, and in return Dick would put his life into them, growing vegetables and flowers. He was a hard worker who loved his family just a little more than his gardens. Dick will be greatly missed by his family and the many friends he has made in his life.
He is survived by his wife Margret Alene Moine of Chino Valley, daughter Pamela Ranne of Pineville, Louisiana, sister; Luanne Swinton of Waverly, Iowa, two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. A celebration of Dicks life will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 2, 1999 at Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home, 303 S. Cortez St., Prescott, with Reverands Richard and Barbara Doerrer-Peacock officiating.
Madonna Beasley
Madonna M. Beasley, 63, died on Friday, Nov. 12, 1999 in Flagstaff. She was born on Aug. 25, 1936 in Minneapolis, Minn., to Francis and Lillian (Graff) Lano. Mrs. Beasley worked for the Washington School District in Phoenix for 13 years as a crossing guard.
Survivors include Chester, her husband of 40 years; daughters, Monica Miller and Mabel Wilson both of Phoenix; sons, Mark Beasley of Albuquerque, Paul of Phoenix; and eight grandchildren.
Graveside services were held on Wednesday, Nov.17, at Chino Valley Cemetery, with Rev. Fr. John Salvador, C.M.F. officiating.
Charles Pugh
Charles D. Pugh, 69, died on Nov. 7, 1999 in Prescott Valley. He was born on June 27, 1930 in Cowen, W. Va., to Gartrell D. and Audrey (Wright) Pugh.
Charles served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean conflict. He met and married Patricia Ann Robinson on Nov. 15, 1951 which gave them 47 loving years together. Charles was a Tool and Die Maker for Chrysler Corporation in Twinsburg, Ohio, where he worked for 22 years and retired in 1987. After retirement, Charles and Patricia moved to Black Canyon City and recently purchased a home in Chino Valley. Charles was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Black Canyon City. He was fond of hunting and fishing, and was proud of his family. He will be greatly missed by his family and the many friends he made during his life's journey.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia; daughters, Tamarya Jean Pike of Black Canyon City and Lisa Renee Prevett of Flushing, Mich.; son, Charles Darrell Pugh II of Florida; sister, Marion Kay Green of Austin, Texas; brother, Herbert F. Pugh of Webster Springs, W. Va.; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Nov. 9, at First Southern Baptist Church, with burial at Chino Valley Cemetery, with Pastor George Denney officiating.
Leona Sterkin
Leona Sterkin, 90, died on Nov. 4, 1999 at her home in Chino Valley. She was born Oct. 18, 1909 in Glendale, Calif., to Pierrier and Pearl Ethel (Colton) Pinoges. Leona moved to Tucson in 1950 and then to Chino Valley in 1977. She was preceded in death by her husband, George, in 1987.
Leona was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Del Rio Ward.
Survivors include a son, Gerald Fiock of Oxnard, Calif.; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. There was a private cremation, and private internment at Chino Valley Cemetery.
Jack Mitchell
Jack Cyrus Mitchell, 70, died on Oct. 21, 1999 at his home in Chino Valley. He was born on July 28, 1929 in Rockford, Ill., to Francis and Grace (Bradley) Mitchell.
Jack attended school in Chicago, Ill., and graduated from West High School in 1948. He served in the United States Air Force from 1948 to 1952 in Okinawa, Japan and during the Korean conflict. He obtained the rank of staff sergeant.
Jack married E. Nancy Lewis on Aug. 7, 1953 in Glendale, Calif. He worked for IBM in Southern California for 16 years, then worked for Memorex in Santa Clara for 18 years, retiring on Jan. 3, 1989. Jack witnessed computers going from the size of room to a laptop model during his working experience. After his retirement in January of 1989, he moved to Chino Valley to supervise the building of the home that he and his wife were living in prior to his death.
Survivors include his wife, E. Nancy Mitchell of Chino Valley; daughter, Georgia Williams of San Jose, Calif.; son, Richard Mitchell of San Jose, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Oct. 23, 1999 with Dr. James Gere officiating.
