Kathryn Rushton Andrus

Kathryn C. (Rushton) Andrus, 81, died Tuesday, May 12, 1998, at Mountain View Manor.

She was born Dec. 7, 1916, at her parents home on the east edge of Lohrville, Iowa.

She attended Farnhamville elementary and high schools, graduating in 1934. On June 6 of the same year she married Herbert Rushton. They lived just north of Farnhamville for five years, moving to a farm six miles west of Churdan in 1939.

She and her husband farmed the family property until 1968, when they moved to Prescott Valley. Mr. Andrus died in August 1976. In 1980, she married Carl Andrus, relocated and built a home in Humboldt in 1981. Her husband, Carl, died in December 1995.

Mrs. Andrus was a member of the Presbyterian Church while living in the Churdan area, and later became a founding member of the Open Door Baptist Church in Prescott Valley. She was a 4-H leader for a few years in Churdan. She was an accomplished artist since her youth, and while in Arizona, took formal art lessons. She provided many of her friends and relatives with realistic life, oil and chalk paintings and drawings for their enjoyment.

Survivors include her sister, Norma Kinyon of Lohrville, Iowa; sons, Roger of Garland, Texas, Mitchell of Fernandina Beach, Fla., Warren of Humboldt and Darwin of Prescott; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Everett and Dale Haynes; her husbands, Herbert and Carl; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. today at the Open Door Baptist Church, 8451 E. Stevens in Prescott Valley.

Brown Funeral Home in Churdan, Iowa, helped the family with arrangements.

Jean Wingfield

Jean A. Wingfield, 70, died Thursday, May 14, 1998, at Yavapai Regional Medical Center.

She was born April 30, 1928, in Williams.

Mrs. Wingfield was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Frances Reed in 1968.

Survivors include her sister, Maxine Goldman of Las Vegas, Nev.

The family planned no funeral services.

Hampton Funeral Home helped the family with arrangements.

John Williams

John "Jack" C. Williams, 52, died Wednesday, May 13, at his home in Highland Pines.

He was born Sept. 25, 1945, in Paterson, N.J., to Arthur and Eleanor Williams, and grew up in Cranford, N.J. He graduated from the University of Miami in Florida in 1967 and entered the Air Force. He was stationed at Williams Air Force Base in Chandler as a pilot. He became a captain and instructor for the super sonic T38 trainer.

After leaving the Air Force, Mr. Williams entered law school at Arizona State University and graduated in 1977. From 1978 to 1985, he flew 727's for Eastern Airlines. He quit the airlines in 1985 and moved to Arizona to practice law.

Mr. Williams was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) in April 1997.

Survivors include his wife, Beki Hawkins; son, Matt; stepson, E.J. Webb; mother, Eleanor; and brothers, Jim, Art and Bob.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Mr. Williams' memory to YRMC Hospice, Box 26565, Prescott Valley, AZ 86312-6565.

A memorial committal service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Mountain View Cemetery on Willow Creek Road.

Marjorie Richardson

Marjorie Lees Richardson, 78, died Wednesday, May 13, 1998, in Prescott.

She was born April 26, 1920, in Bootle, England, to John Samuel and Minnie (Lockton) Lees.

Mrs. Richardson immigrated with her family to the United States when she was three years old. She married Hugh H. Richardson on Feb. 2, 1946. She worked as a secretary for the Lansing, Ill., school district for six years.

She was a member of both the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston, Mass., and in Prescott. She was a past president of the Daughters of St. George and a member of Daughters of the Nile. She enjoyed hiking in Pine Lakes, where she lived, and Richardson Narrows was named for her and her husband.

She was devoted to visiting the sick and those in need. She was a great knitter, and gave away many articles that she made.

Survivors include her husband, Hugh, of Prescott; daughters, Virginia Janowski of Three Oaks, Mich., and Evelyn Dalton of Hobart, Ind.; son, Alan of Tucson; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Cremation was private.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Church of Christ, Scientist, 410 E. Gurley St., Prescott, AZ 86301.

Harry Winkler

Harry Orin Winkler, 87, died Tuesday, May 12, 1998, in Prescott.

He was born June 19, 1910, in Chicago, Ill., to Emil and Anna (Broadhead) Winkler. He had lived in Prescott for 24 years.

Mr. Winkler retired from the University of Arizona in Tucson, then moved to Prescott. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn, in 1995.

Survivors include his daughters, LaVon Winkler of Lakeport, Calif., Dorothy Weigle of Hamilton, Mont., Ruth Winkler of Reno, Nev., and Mary Jane Winkler; and one grandchild.

Private services will be held.

Doris Strauss

Doris M. Strauss, 76, died Wednesday, May 13, 1998, at Yavapai Regional Medical Center.

She was born Aug. 29, 1921, in Benton, Wis., to Lloyd E. and Catherine (Sullivan) Mayo.

Early in life, her family moved to Bonne Terre, Mo. She later moved to River Rouge, Mich., and then to Casper, Wyo. While in Casper, she established a beauty salon.

Mrs. Strauss moved to Prescott Valley in 1978. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She loved needlepoint and was very good at it. Her desire was to make fine pieces of art for her family and friends.

She was proud of her family, and cared a great deal for them.

Survivors include her husband, Ernest, of Prescott Valley; sons, Richard and Paul, both of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Randall of Marion, Iowa, and Perry of Creston, Iowa; sister, Ruby Thomas of Prescott; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister, Violet; brother, Lloyd; and her first husband, Howard Cassingham, in 1980.

A visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home, 303 S. Cortez St. A Scripture Rosary will follow at 6 p.m.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 150 Fleury Ave. Final commendation and farewell will follow the Mass at Redwood Memorial Gardens in Dewey.

Edmond Petri

Edmond "Eddie" V. Petri, 84, died Tuesday, May 12, 1998, at his home in Chino Valley.

He was born Sept. 24, 1913, in Agawam, Mont., to Wendel and Marie (Kirsch) Petri.

Mr. Petri lived in the Choteau area, where he farmed and ranched. He married Alice McDonnell on Sept. 21, 1939. They moved to Moore, Mont., in 1953, where he farmed, and in 1971 they moved to Chino Valley.

He worked at the Antelope Hills Golf Course as an assistant greenskeeper for 20 years. He was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church of Chino Valley.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Alice; daughter, Doris Brown of Lewistown, Mont.; son, Neill of Quartz Hill, Calif.; sister, Isabell DeYoung of Kalispell, Mont.; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Southern Baptist Church of Chino Valley, with the Rev. Mark Reeder officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Y.R.M.C. Hospice, Restricted Fund, P.O. Box 26565, Prescott Valley, AZ 86312-6565.
