Robert Westlund
Robert E. Westlund, 84, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 1997, at his home in Dewey.
He was born July 26, 1913, in Omaha, Neb. He married Christine Whittington on April 4, 1943.
Mr. Westlund was a teacher of desert survival and hunter's safety courses in the Scottsdale Boys Club for 14 years. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corps.
Survivors include his son, James of Dewey; daughters, Linda Westlund of Dewey and Patricia McCrea of St. Johns; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine, on Nov. 11, 1991.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home, 303 S. Cortez St.
Private cremation will be at a later date.

Gordon Grass
Gordon Franklin Grass, 62, died Friday, Nov. 14, 1997, at the Prescott Veterans Administration Medical Center.
He was born Dec. 20, 1934, in Oakland, Calif., to Fredrick A. and Kathleen H. (Hurst) Grass. He moved to Prescott from California in 1983.
Mr. Grass was employed by Copier Express as a copier technician. He served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years, retiring in March 1971. He was a musician who enjoyed playing the keyboard at the Prescott Senior Center, where he will be remembered for the many hours of pleasure he gave through his music.
He spent many relaxing hours oil and watercolor painting, and produced many fine pen and ink drawings. He will be dearly missed by his family and close friends.
Survivors include his sons, John of Huntington Beach, Calif., Todd of Sacramento, Calif., and Scott, also of California; brothers, Fred and Al, both of California; sisters, Betty Dilts and Kathleen Storey, both of California; and three grandchildren.
A graveside memorial with full military honors will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, with the Rev. Donald Munson officiating.

David Siebenman
David Robert Siebenman, 66, a Prescott resident, died Monday, Dec. 8, 1997.
He was born Jan. 5, 1931, in St. Louis, Mo.
Mr. Siebenman was a teacher in the Phoenix Elementary School District #1 and at Grand Canyon University until his retirement. He served in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his daughters, JeanMarie Hallahan, Mary Ann Garrity and Joann Gaona; sisters, Marie Siebenman, Margaret Pruitt and Janet Siebenman; and 11 grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 150 Fleury Ave.

William Gates Jr.
William "Herb" Gates Jr., 45, a former Mayer resident, died Monday, Dec. 8, 1997, in San Marcos, Calif.
He was born Jan. 30, 1952, in Phoenix. He was a horse trainer and a member of the FFA and the thoroughbred club. He graduated from Tempe High School in 1970, and resided in both San Marcos, Calif., and Mayer.
Survivors include his companion, Janet Rogers; daughter, Christine Follette; parents, William and Phyllis Gates; and sisters, Linda Gates, Karen Williams, and Pamela Zawacky.
A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday at Carr Tenney Mortuary, 2621 S. Rural Road, Tempe. Services will follow.

Imogene Hodges
Imogene Hodges, 92, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 1997, in a local nursing home.
She was born Aug. 13, 1905, in Edelstin, Ill., to Roy and Alvaretta (Lamoree) Hodges. She moved to Prescott from Chicago, Ill., 30 years ago.
She was a retired hospital lab technician.
Survivors include her nephew, Kenneth Van Horn of Las Vegas, Nev.; and three nieces.

Eugene Yule
Eugene E. Yule, 71, died Sunday, Dec. 7, 1997, at Yavapai Regional Medical Center.
He was born July 5, 1926, in Kenosha, Wis., to Everett and Catherine (Lichter) Yule.
Mr. Yule served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked as a window clerk for the U.S. Post Office for many years, retiring in 1983. He also did tax work for several years.
He married Shirley Ernst in Kenosha, Wis., on June 7, 1947. They moved to Scottsdale in 1961 from Kenosha, then to Dewey in 1988.
He enjoyed gardening, baking and cooking.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley of Dewey; brother, James of Wisconsin; and mother, Catherine Yule of Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his father, Everett, in 1975.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Sunrise Funeral Home in Prescott Valley.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Germaine Catholic Church in Prescott Valley, with the Rev. Gerald Yaeger as Celebrant.
Burial will be at a later date in St. Francis Cemetery in Phoenix.

Mary Barkubein
Mary Lee (Tyree) Barkubein, 40, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 1997, in Chattanooga, Tenn.
She was born July 14, 1957, in Prescott, to Bill and Ella (Winn) Tyree.
Mrs. Barkubein graduated from Central Baptist Academy in Prescott in 1975. She attended college in Tennessee and graduated with honors. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church, had received her associates of business degree as a secretary, and was a member of the Society for Creative Anachronisms.
Survivors include her husband, Dale; son, John Henry Elliott; and daughter, Lela Marie Elliott, all of Chattanooga; and mother, Ella Tyree; brothers, Doug and Richard Tyree; and sister, Diane Hommel, all of Prescott.
She was preceded in death by her father, Bill Tyree.
Funeral services were held Nov. 26 at Heritage Funeral Home in Chattanooga, Tenn. Dr. Steve Euler and Darryl Fortinberry officiated. Interment was at Hamilton Memorial Gardens in Hixon, Tenn.
The family suggests contributions be made to Grace Baptist Church, the Mary L. Barkubein Fund.
