Glenn McDonald

Glenn E. McDonald, 77, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 1997, at the Prescott Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

He was born March 12, 1920, in Northwood, Iowa, to Alfred J. and Clara Mae (Rogers) McDonald.

Mr. McDonald moved to Phoenix from California in 1980, and to Chino Valley in 1987. He also lived in Camp Verde in recent years. He was a retired carpenter and a member of the American Legion.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He enjoyed baseball and being out of doors.

Survivors include daughters, Sandy Hodson of Glendale and Bobbie Merchant of Broken Arrow, Okla.; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Private cremation will be at Mountain View Cemetery.

Santos Barajas

Santos Barajas, 69, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997, at his home in Prescott.

He was born Nov. 1, 1928, in Putney, Ariz., to Jose and Natalia (Silva) Barajas.

Mr. Barajas was a supervisor for the Cyprus Bagdad Mine for many years. He was also a volunteer for the fire department in Bagdad.

Survivors include his wife, Viola; daughters, Dolores Perkins of Bagdad, Emma Sanders of Prescott Valley, Mariva Barajas of El Paso, Texas, and Felice Neely of San Diego, Calif.; sons, Bobby of Prescott and Thomas of Tucson; brothers, Nolberto and Frank of Mesa, and Robert Avalos of Phoenix.

A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Memory Chapel, 131 Grove Ave.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church, with Father Martin Rock, S.J., officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. View Cemetery on Willow Creek Road.

Rufus Roy

Rufus Roy, 99, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 1997.

He was a retired minister of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. He served in the ministry for 61 years, 17 of which were served in the mission field in Central and South America. He was married in Denver, Colo. In 1923. He lived in Prescott for six years, and had been living in Payson since June.

Survivors include his wife, Iona of Payson; son, Norman of North Carolina; daughters, Marjorie Bassham of Payson, Dorothy Morgan of Pennsylvania and Iona James of Washington; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Payson.

Payson Funeral Home helped the family with arrangements.

Frances Doyle

Frances J. Doyle, 80, died Friday, Dec. 26, 1997, at Yavapai Regional Medical Center.

She was born Oct. 4, 1916, in Portage, Pa., to Jacob and Marianne Surowiec, a coal mining family of Austria and Poland. She was one of 11 children.

She moved to Passaic, N.J. and attended Fairley Dickenson College. She worked for the Falstrum Company during World War II. She was an air raid warden, certified junior mechanic and a welder.

She met George E. Doyle of Santa Ana, Calif., in a Newark, N.J. bar, traveled by train cross country to California, and two weeks later, married Mr. Doyle, on Dec. 12, 1945. The family moved to Phoenix in 1949, where she was a housewife and mother. They moved to Prescott in 1963. Her main loves were her children, grandchildren and her animals.

Survivors include her husband of 52 years, George of Prescott; daughter, Donna Humphrey of Prescott Valley; son, Rick Smith of Washington; sister, Elizabeth Bridgeman of Clifton, N.J.; brother, Ben Surowiec of Lodi, N.J.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Hampton Funeral Home, 240 S. Cortez, with burial to follow at Redwood Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Dewey.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

Marjorie Moffitt

Marjorie H. Moffitt, 95, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1997, at her home in Seligman.

She was born July 13, 1902, in Austin, Texas, to Jefferson D. And Minie T. (Millican) Randolph. She moved to Seligman from Yucca Valley, Calif. in April 1993. She was a housewife.

Mrs. Moffitt completed four years of college at the University of Texas in Austin. She loved her home and taking care of it. Her joy was gardening and would spend hours pulling weeds out of the yard. She loved candy and all sweets. At the end of the day, she would enjoy sitting by the fireplace and watching the fire burn. She cared greatly for her friends and spending time with them. She was proudest of her home and her loved ones. She will be greatly missed by all she blessed with her friendship.

Survivors include sons, Thomas Jr. of Seligman and Lannis of Yucca Valley, Calif.; daughter, Hazel Elaine Brown of Mission Viejo, Calif.; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Sr., who died Jan. 30, 1974; brothers, William, Howard, and Harry; and sisters, Hazel, Lilla, Ellen and Fay.

Crypt side services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Pomona Valley Memorial Park, Pomona, Calif., with Gary A. Graveline Sr. Officiating.

Gloria Kloss

Gloria Crawford Kloss, 99, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1997, at her daughter's home in Spring Valley.

She was born July 4, 1898, in Silver City, N.M., to C.P. and Alice (Bradley) Crawford.

Mrs. Kloss moved to Prescott in 1970. Her full life included raising her family and her devotion to gardening, music and reading. She traveled extensively, including trips to South Africa, the Galapagos Islands, Hawaii, Alaska and Europe. After age 75, she enjoyed taking her children and grandchildren on numerous raft trips through the Grand Canyon.

She was a life-long member of the Episcopal Church.

Survivors include her daughters, Gloria K. Euler of Prescott and Harriet K. Gilbert of Spring Valley; son, Henry of Cambridge, Mass.; 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service and inurnment will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Mountain View Cemetery .

Margaret Stevens

Margaret "Peggy" E. Stevens, 48, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 1997, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix.

She was born May 30, 1949, in Queens, N.Y., to Francis and Irene (Karaski) Wittich.

The family moved to San Diego, Calif., where her father served with the San Diego Police Department.

She married Charles "Chuck" E. Stevens on June 22, 1968, in San Diego. They moved to Prescott in 1980.

She was an active member of the Christian Church, serving in multiple volunteer ministries: with children, youth, choir, sound, weddings, custodial and in any area in need of a willing hand. She was one of the founding members of Westside Christian Church in 1996.

Mrs. Stevens was a dedicated homemaker, and she had a heart for people who needed help.

Survivors include her husband, Chuck of Prescott; parents, Frank and Irene Wittich of San Diego, Calif.; brother, Frank Wittich of Springville, Calif.; sisters, Lois McMurtrey of Lafayette, Ind., and Barbara Karpinski of San Marcos, Calif.; sons, Chaz of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., and James of Prescott; daughter, Stephanie Henry of Flagstaff; and one grandson, Timothy Stevens.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Douglas Wittich of San Diego, Calif.

Memorial services will be at Memory Chapel in Prescott at 3 p.m. Tuesday, with Pastor Jim Price officiating.

The family requests in lieu of flowers that contributions be made to Westside Christian Church, 5860 Williamson Valley Road, Prescott, AZ 86301.
