Daniel Gilliam

Daniel J. Gilliam, 39, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 1997, in Chino Valley.

Mr. Gilliam was born Oct. 22, 1958, in Phoenix to Cecil and Ellen (Williams) Gilliam.

He served in the U.S. Army before moving to Chino Valley from Phoenix in 1996.

Mr. Gilliam was self employed as a craftsman and woodworker and enjoyed maintaining his 10-acre property. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Mr. Gilliam is survived his loving wife of six years, Kathy; sons, Matthew and Timothy, both of Plainview, Texas; daughter, Julia Azbill of Phoenix; parents, Cecil and Ellen of Dallas, Texas; brothers, Stephen of Phoenix, Gary of Heath, Texas, Mark of Texas and John of Dallas, Texas; sisters, Denise Bell, Mary Norman, Ann Adams and Beth Wright; and one grandchild.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home, Cortez and Carleton streets. Deacon Bill Davis will officiate.

Glen Kleinman

Glen Hyrum Kleinman, 92, a long-time Prescott resident, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 1997, at his home.

He was born July 16, 1905, in Mesa, to Andrew and Helen (Pilling) Kleinman. The Kleinmans were among the earliest settlers in Mesa, and were ranchers for many years.

Mr. Kleinman married Ruth Pew on Aug. 24, 1940, in Mesa. They moved their growing family to Prescott in the fall of 1945, and have lived in Prescott since then, first owning a feed store on the site of Peterson's Jewelry, and later a gas station on the corner of Gurley Street where the Bashford House now stands. In his later years, he worked for Southwest Feed and Seed Co., traveling northern Arizona, selling range feed and salt to ranches. He retired in 1985.

He was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served as branch president from 1952 through 1956. At the time of his death, he belonged to the Iron Springs Ward of the Prescott Stake.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Ruth; sons, G. Michael, Ralph, Tim and Dennis, all of Prescott, and Brent of Phoenix; daughter, Patricia Orey of Phoenix; brother, Joseph of Oren, Utah; 19 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Monday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1001 Ruth St., with services following.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Prescott LDS Stake Missionary Fund, c/o Bishop Dewey Nelson, 542 Campbell Ave., Prescott, AZ 86301.

Maxine Rogers

Maxine Rogers, 80, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 1997, in Prescott.

She was born April 11, 1917, in Missouri, to Luther H. And Emma K. (Cauvey) Limbaugh. She had resided in Prescott for the past two years.

Survivors include her daughter, Bette J. Eiler of Prescott; and sister, Noreen Wilson of Albuquerque, N.M.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Adair's Carroon Mortuary, 1191 N. Grand Ave., Nogales.

Burial will be at the Nogales Elks Cemetery.

Margaret Brewster

Margaret E. Brewster, 79, of Bagdad, died Monday, Nov. 3, 1997, at the Las Fuentes Care Center.

She was born Sept. 21, 1918, in Lamesa, Texas, to Wade and Jessie (Dickerson) Shandley. She has resided in Arizona since she was an infant.

Survivors include her husband, Clena of Bagdad, and sisters, Christine Cain of Apache Junction and Betty Lane of Niland, Calif.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Christian Life Assembly Church, 1 Palm Lane, Bagdad.

Dorothy Jury

Dorothy J. Jury, 86, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 1997, at a local care center in Prescott.

She was born Jan. 6, 1911, in England, to Fredrick and Clara (Gent) Norris. She was a resident of Arizona for over seven years, and lived in Ash Fork.

She loved to crochet as one of her hobbies. She was a loving mother and grandmother.

Survivors include daughters, Myrle Nolf, Barbara Curran, Marlene Alexander, and Ethel Jury; sons, Oscar Jury, Jim Sala, Fred Sala, and Franklin Thompson. She was preceded in death by son, Joe Sala, and her husband.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, at the Ash Fork Cemetery.

Riley Walker

Riley "Doonie" Walker, 51, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 1997, at Yavapai Regional Medical Center.

He was born Feb. 28, 1946, in Dayton, Ohio, to Riley and Betty Lu (Luft) Walker. He moved to Chino Valley from Lake Elsinore, Calif. In 1990.

Mr. Walker was a self-employed R.V. technician. He prided himself on the quality of his workmanship. An avid outdoors person, he enjoyed a beautiful sunset, sitting at the beach, or casting a fishing line into the ocean.

Survivors include daughter, Lisa Ann Walker of Chino Valley; brothers, William of Gardena, Calif., and Terry of Long Beach, Calif.; sister, Candy Dawn Lee of Gardena, Calif.; mother, Betty Lu of Hemet, Calif.; and one grandchild. He was preceded in death by his son, Rodney.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home, Cortez at Carleton, with the Rev. Ron Hartung officiating.

Private cremation will be at Mountain View Cemetery.

Margaret Winkler

Margaret Winkler, 80, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 1997, at Yavapai Regional Medical Center.

She was born May 29, 1917, in Pennsylvania. She moved to Arizona from Pennsylvania 22 years ago.

She worked for the Motor Vehicle Department in Phoenix for many years before retiring. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #78 in Humboldt.

Mrs. Winkler enjoyed helping people, and enjoyed her flowers in her greenhouse. She also enjoyed playing Bingo, and she had many friends who will miss her.

Survivors include stepdaughter, Thelma Mastern of Florida; and friend, Melvin Abell of Dewey.

Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, at the American Legion Post #78 in Humboldt, with Harry L. Carlise officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post #78, Humboldt, Ariz. 86329.

Billy Glaze

Billy "BJ" Glaze, 62, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 1997, at Yavapai Regional Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 20, 1935, in Birmingham, Ala., to Richard and Mamie (Blackstone) Glaze.

Mr. Glaze moved to Mesa from Honolulu, Hawaii, in 1974, and to Prescott Valley in 1993.

He was employed by Garret as a maintenance worker for four and one-half years, retiring in 1979. He also worked for the State of Arizona in maintenance for six months.

He was a member of the American Legion and served as a past commander. He was director for the Greater Prescott Bowling Association, as well as being a member of the Fleet Reserve Association.

Mr. Glaze served his country in the U.S. Navy Submarine Service, retiring after 20 years of service.

He enjoyed fishing and golfing, as well as watching Phoenix Suns and Chicago Cubs games. He had a talent for woodworking and did a great deal of work at the Plaza Bowl and Antelope Lanes. He loved bowling and would spend a great deal of his time at the bowling lanes. He loved animals, especially his dog, "Teddy." He spent many pleasant hours camping with friends and family.

Mr. Glaze was proud to be a father and grandfather. He loved his family, but felt especially proud of his 20 years in the Navy Submarine Service.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Linda Sue; daughters, Robin Lynn Slade of Phoenix and Brenda Hodges and Suzie Glaze, both of Prescott Valley; sisters, Ezelle Uines of Birmingham, Ala., and Nellie Talley, also of Alabama; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by brothers Robert and Richard and sisters; Irene and Evelle.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home, Cortez and Carleton streets.

A celebration of Mr. Glaze's life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, also at Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home, with the Rev. Byron Banta, pastor of Corona Baptist Church, officiating.
