Leona Updyke

Leona B. Updyke, 89, died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 1997, in Prescott.

She was born Aug. 19, 1908, in Himrod, N.Y., to Bert and Bessie (Foltz) Brink. She moved to Phoenix in 1982, and to Prescott in May 1996.

Mrs. Updyke spent many happy years as a house mother at Elon College, Elon College, N.C., before retiring in 1982 and moving to Arizona.

Survivors include daughters, Dorinda Hanna of Prescott, and Thelmajane Corbin of Reistertown, Md.; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Merritt W. Updyke, on March 15, 1962. They were married on July 16, 1932.

Private services were held.

The family suggests contributions in Mrs. Updyke's name to the Alzheimer's Foundation, 225 Grove Ave., Suite B, Prescott, Ariz. 86301.

Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home helped the family with arrangements.

Alberta Burchard

Alberta A. Burchard, 92, a resident of Arizona for over 49 years, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 1997, in Prescott.

She was born Nov. 6, 1905, in Jackson, Mich., to Alfred and Alma (Carl) Winne.

She worked for Yavapai Regional Medical Center (then the Yavapai Community Hospital) as a licensed practical nurse for over 17 years, retiring in 1968.

Mrs. Burchard enjoyed bird watching, crocheting and reading.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Donald; son, Robert of Prescott; one grandson and two great-grandchildren.

Private services will be held.

Memory Chapel helped the family with arrangements.

Bobby Adams

Bobby L. Adams, 66, died Monday, Nov. 10, 1997, in Young.

He was born April 20, 1931, in Richmond, Ind. He lived in Ohio until 1967, when he moved to Prescott.

Mr. Adams resided in Tonto Basin for the past three years.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah; sons, Larry and Wayne; daughters, Leanne and Tina; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Payson Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Young Cemetery.

Kenneth Dunn

Kenneth "Ray" Dunn, 66, of Prescott, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 1997.

He was born June 19, 1931, in San Pedro, Calif., to Harold Ray and Minnie Dunn.

Mr. Dunn married Betty R. Neidigh Nov. 25, 1954, in San Juanquinto, Calif. He retired from the California Highway Patrol Department as a sergeant in 1989. He enjoyed trap and skeet shooting.

Survivors include his wife, Betty of Prescott; and his daughter, Niki Bethel of Scottsdale.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday at Sunrise Funeral Home, 8167 E. Highway 69 in Prescott Valley.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Redwood Cemetery, with Pastor Daniel Storvick officiating.

Anita Kley

Anita M. Kley, 72, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 1997, at her residence in Dewey.

She was born Jan. 23, 1925, in Bedford, Iowa. She moved from Iowa to California as an infant.

Mrs. Kley married Robert Louis Kley on Dec. 6, 1946, in Santa Monica, Calif., where they worshipped as members at St. Paul Lutheran Church.

She was especially dedicated to her husband, children and grandchildren. She also loved and appreciated her many friends throughout California and Arizona. She patterned her life by the following saying: "Most of us will never do great things, but we can do small things in a great way." This was exhibited throughout her life. During her 20 years at Motorola and Westinghouse, she was very conscientious about her work.

Mrs. Kley took great pride in her church work as well, serving for 10 years as congregational secretary and as secretary to the bishop of one of the 65 synods within the ELCA, before she retired in 1991.

She and her husband moved back to Arizona seven years ago. She was very dedicated to her church. While living in the valley, she was a worshipping member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Scottsdale and Abiding Savior Lutheran in Tempe. After she moved to Dewey, she was an active and worshipping member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Prescott Valley, and most recently, American Lutheran Church in Prescott.

Survivors include her husband of over 50 years, Robert; son, John; daughters, Kristine Lee Paulausky and Julie Luise Kley; and sister, Barbara Morris Tison.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at American Lutheran Church, with Pastor Daniel Storvick officiating.

The family suggests memorials to the Hospice Restricted Account at Yavapai Regional Medical Center, 1003 Willow Creek Road, Prescott, Ariz. 86301.

Lillian Casey

Lillian Marie Casey, 84, a resident of Arizona for over 46 years, died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 1997, at the Arizona Pioneers' Home.

She was born June 5, 1913, in Spencer, Iowa, to Viggo and Christiana Jensen.

Mrs. Casey was a member of the Mayer Community Church, where she sang in the choir for many years.

Survivors include sons, Dennis of Chino Valley, and Allen of Phoenix; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 1990.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, at the Pioneers Cemetery in Prescott, with Pastor Bob Hanson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made in Mrs. Casey's name to The Arizona Pioneers' Home, 300 S. McCormick, Prescott, Ariz. 86303.

Dr. Robert Rogers

Dr. G. Robert Rogers, 74, died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 1997, at St. Joseph Hospital in Phoenix.

He was born May 26, 1923, in Huntington Park, Calif., to Dr. George Alfred Rogers and Jessie Mae (McCormick) Rogers.

Dr. Rogers served his country in the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Marine Corps. He was stationed in a "MASH" Unit during the Korean War.

He graduated from USC's dental school and later was an assistant professor there. He was board certified in maxillo-facial surgery and oral surgery, and was in practice for 45 years before retiring to Prescott.

Dr. Rogers was a private pilot with many ratings and had 5, 500 hours over the course of 25 years. He volunteered his time with Air Life Line, transporting patients free of charge who could not afford private plane transportation and who could not travel on airlines due to their condition

He served as director for the Inland Empire National Bank in Riverside, Calif. He was a skilled horseman and lived at Quail Hill Ranch, where his cremated remains will be scattered. He was a member of the Cessna Pilots Association, and the University of Southern California Alumni Association.

Survivors include his wife, Gigi of Prescott; daughters, Lynne Babb of Lockwood, Calif., Heidi Bacon of Prescott, and Britt Bacon of Aspen, Colo.; sons, Robert of Walnut, Calif., Douglas of Union City, Calif., and Steven of Prescott; brother, Dr. Frank Rogers of Reno, Nev.; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Westside Christian Church, 5860 N. Williamson Valley Road, with Pastor James Price officiating.

Hampton Funeral Home helped the family with arrangements.
