Doris Martin

Doris Jean Martin, 76, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 1997, at the home of her daughter in Phoenix.

Mrs. Martin was born Feb. 1, 1921, in Ann Harbor, Mich. She was adopted shortly after birth by Fritz and Jessie (Clarke) Ferguson. She attended school in Michigan and moved to California at the time of her marriage to Philip J. Martin.

She was a resident of Arizona for 36 years. She was a member of the Prescott United Methodist Church, Order of Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, and the Prescott Noon Lioness Club.

Survivors include daughter, Phyllis Hall of Phoenix; son, David of Texas; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1987.

A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Prescott United Methodist Church, 505 W. Gurley.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Prescott United Methodist Church, 505 W. Gurley, Prescott, Ariz., or Hospice of the Valley, 1515 E. Flower St., Phoenix, Ariz. 85016.

Martha Adams-Custer

Martha V. Adams-Custer, 80, died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 1997, in the Palisade Living Center, Palisade, Colo.

She was born Sept. 21, 1917, in Shelbyville, Tenn., to Shields W. and Katie Lee (Moore) Rambo. She attended Emory University in Atlanta, Ga., and College of Great Falls in Great Falls, Mont., majoring in art.

She married Rev. Marvin H. Adams on July 15, 1937, in Shelbyville. They served Methodist churches in Montana and Colorado.

She moved to Prescott in 1980 and lived here until 1995. She married Jack Custer, former Prescott Fire Chief. While in Prescott, she was a member of the General George Crook Chapter of D.A.R., Chapter O of P.E.O., Toastmasters, Prescott United Methodist Church, was a Lady Lioness, and worked from 1980 to 1982 at Miller Valley School. She was active in singing groups.

She taught water color privately for a number of years. She was accomplished not only in painting, but wrote poetry, short stories and participated in choirs and frequently soloed.

Survivors include her husband, Jack of Palisade; sons, Rev. Robert Adams of Rye, Colo.; William of Greeley, Colo., and Ben of Palisade, Colo.; daughter, Becky Geiler of Prescott; sister, Kitty Graham, of Shelbyville, Tenn.; brother, Shields Rambo, also of Shelbyville; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Rev. Marvin Adams, on Nov. 7, 1979.

No services are planned and cremation has taken place.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Prescott United Methodist Church, 505 W. Gurley St., Prescott, Ariz.

Richard Cole

Richard J. Cole, 72, died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 1997, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Prescott.

He was born Aug. 28, 1925, in Allanstown, Pa., to Royal and Myrtle (Peters) Cole. He moved to the Prescott area in 1968.

Mr. Cole had been a chef at several local restaurants prior to retirement. He served in the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard during World War II.

He enjoyed cooking, whether in a restaurant kitchen, at home, or over a campfire on the camping trips he liked to go on. He was also very good about taking meals to his neighbors when they needed help.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian, whom he married Dec. 25, 1974, at the Community Church in Chino Valley; stepsons, Kenneth Bly of Chino Valley, Rodney Bly of Milford, N.H., and Gene Bly of Mahomet, Mass.

A Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, in the chapel, with Chaplain Charles Turner officiating.

Inurnment, with military honors, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, at the National Memorial Cemetery, 23089 Cave Creek, Phoenix.

The family suggests memorials to the Veterans Administration Hospice, Prescott, Ariz. 86313.

Edwin Beck

Edwin R. Beck, 86, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 1997, in a Prescott Valley care home.

He was born Feb. 27, 1911, in Marysville, Wash., to Ida and August Beck.

Mr. Beck graduated high school in 1929 as president of his class. He worked in the shipyard in Seattle, Wash. For 30 years, building ships and carriers. He was a member of the Boilermakers and Carpenters Union for 30 years.

He moved to Arizona after retiring, to pursue his hobby of rock hounding. He formed new rock hound clubs around the state, and won many prizes for his jewelry making. He married Gloria Beck in 1986, in Prescott.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria of Prescott Valley; stepson, Mark Elliott of Prescott Valley; stepdaughters, Linda Chapman of Cottonwood, and Rebecca Havey of Prescott Valley; and six grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Prescott Valley Christian Church, 7655 E. Long Look Drive, with Pastor Gene Wands officiating.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Prescott Valley Christian Church, 7655 E. Long Look Drive, Prescott Valley, Ariz. 86314.

Robert McClintock

Robert E. (Bob) McClintock, 68, died Monday, Nov. 17, 1997, at Scottsdale Memorial Hospital.

He was born Aug. 8, 1929, in Newman, Ill.. He attended school in Oakland, Ill. He and his wife, Catherine, moved to Phoenix in 1953, and to Prescott in 1979.

Mr. McClintock was a masonry contractor in Phoenix for 20 years. He started Dewey Building Supply in 1979, and had continued to operate it since.

He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, and spending time with his three grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Catherine; daughters, Barb Normandin of Dewey, Robi Eldred of Phoenix, and Kim Merrell of Prescott Valley; sister, Ann Luth of Illinois; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Marjorie Tucker.

A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, at Sunrise Funeral Home, 8167 Highway 69 in Prescott Valley.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Sunrise Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Mt. View Cemetery, 1051 Willow Creek Road.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society.

Wayne Hefley

C. Wayne Hefley, 82, died Monday, Nov. 17, 1997, in Phoenix.

He was born June 21, 1915, in Hillsboro, Ill.

Mr. Hefley was owner/operator of Prescott Refrigeration. He was a member of Prescott United Methodist Church and the Prescott Kiwanis and Moose Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Etta; daughters, Judy Ann Herl and Diane Taylor; son, Larry of Prescott; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Greer-Wilson Funeral Home, 5921 W. Thomas Road in Phoenix, with visitation one hour prior to services.

Nina Lee

Nina Lee, 91, died Friday, Nov. 14, 1997, at Prescott Samaritan Village.

She was born Jan. 18, 1906, in St. Johns, Mich., to Walter and Maude (Bartlett) Viges. She moved to Phoenix in 1945 from her native St. Johns, and has resided in Prescott since 1966.

She was a member of the American Lutheran Church.

Survivors include a son, Raymond Jr. of Phoenix; daughter, Joycelin Beers of Prescott; sister, Lena Frosch of Cambria, Calif.; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Her husband, Raymond, and son, George, preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the American Lutheran Church, 1085 Scott Drive, with Pastor Wallace Cole officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Interment will be in Mt. View Cemetery in Prescott.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the American Lutheran Church, 1085 Scott Drive, Prescott, AZ 86301.
