Gail Henderson Roissier
Gail Henderson Roissier, 1934-2012, age 78, of Sun City, AZ passed away on September 8th, 2012. It was peaceful in that she died in her sleep. She was one of three siblings, raised in Phillipsburg, PA, daughter of Dr. John K. Henderson and Edith Stott Henderson. She graduated from Shipley in 1952. She had just attended a 60-year class reunion with her Phillipsburg, PA friends at the beginning of August.
Gail attended college at Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science, where she met her husband, Robert John Roissier (deceased). Their life together started in Norristown, PA owning their own Pharmacy and raising 4 children, Michele, Renee, Suzanne, and Richard. Bob and Gail sold their Pharmacy and moved to Laurel, DE where Bob continued working as a Pharmacist for Edgehill Pharmacy. Gail followed all the sports, band and activities her children were in and was an active volunteer in Girl Scouts, being a troop leader and Council Volunteer! Gail and Bob moved to Sun City, AZ in 1985. Gail became a real estate agent with Ken Meade Reality and just recently retired.
Gail shall be remembered for many things that touched us all. Gail was known to be a sharp shooter on the rifle team in her younger days, loved to embroider, sew and knit as her children were growing, and became a Country & Western Dance instructor with her late husband in Sun City. They would drive to Phoenix, learn the new dances, then bring the steps to Sun City where they enjoyed teaching others. They were also one of the Charter Members for the Boot Scooters. As an avid dancer, she was a regular attendee at the Bell Rec Center Tea Dances.
Gail is survived by her brother, Jim Henderson of Philipsburg, PA, her sister, Jane Fox of Osceola Mills, PA, her daughters, Michele of Woodinville, WA, Suzi Israelsson of Bethel, AK, her grandchildren living in Tennessee and her granddaughter living in Alaska.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for 2:00 PM, Friday, September 14th, 2012 at the Menke Funeral Home, 12420 North 103rd Ave., Sun City, Arizona.
Carmen R. Kortge Hout
Carmen R. Hout (Kortge) Born September 14, 1923 Fall River, Wisconsin. Passed September 14, 2012 Sun City, AZ. Carmen Hout beloved wife and mother passed quietly at 89 years old.
married to Lee Hout in 1950 and widowed in 2007 both Carmen and Lee dedicated their lives to helping others through foster parenting and social services.
She attended college in Michigan where she met Lee. Carmen was a teacher throughout her life, in and out of the classroom. Carmen retired from Blackhawk College's annex at the Rock Island Arsenal in Rock Island, Illinois. There she ran an independent learning lab that helped soldiers achieve a higher education.
Carmen is survived by her children Susan and Kevin, his wife Karen and grandson Andrew, Carmen's brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Mary Kortge along with their son Ken.
Services to be held Sunday, September 16 at Lakeview United Methodist Church a 2:00 P.M.
Joshua Michael Stoddard
Joshua Michael Stoddard, 30, of Lakeside, AZ, passed away 8-17-12. He was born March 24, 1982 in Phoenix, AZ.
He was survived by both parents, Jeannie and Bob Stoddard; brother, Joseph Rodreick; sister and brother-n-law, Renee and Daniel Bridgeman; sister, Dinah Gipson. As well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. But most importantly his furry kid "Dozer".
He grew up in Phoenix and went to Moon Mountain Elementary, Mountain Sky Jr. High & freshman year at Thunderbird High. He moved to Lakeside in 1987 and attended Blue Ridge High School.
Josh lived life to the fullest, loved people with all his heart and left a lasting impression on everyone he ever met. He made a friend in almost everyone but became a brother to those who were special to his heart. He loved to laugh and make you laugh. Josh would take on your cares and concerns before thinking of his own. He was a vibrant soul with a heart of gold.
There will be a memorial service at Regency Mortuary on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 11:00 A.M., 9850 W. Thunderbird, Sun City, AZ 85351 with reception at his sisters house.
There will also be a celebration of life at Woodland Lake Park in Pinetop, AZ on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 12:00. We will be sharing a pictures, memories and a pot luck lunch, so any contributions will be appreciated.
Geraldine M. "Gerri" Pokrandt
Geraldine M. "Gerri" Pokrandt of Sun City, AZ, passed away September 11, 2012. She would have celebrated her 90th birthday on September 14th. Gerri was born in 1922 to Anne and Casper Konen in Brooklyn, NY.
Her parents and brother Edward, have all preceded her. Gerri will be missed by cousins Nora Mitchell, Judy White and William Taylor, sons Gary and Dean Pokrandt and daughter-in-law, Donna and many close friends.
Visitation will be 5-7 P.M., Friday, September 14, 2012 at Menke Funeral Home, 12420 N. 103rd Ave., Sun City, AZ with funeral services to follow at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 15, 2012.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to 4 Paws (Cat Rescue Shelter), 11129 W. Michigan Ave., Youngtown, AZ 85363 is suggested.
William Francis Eckstein
Lieutenant Commander William F. Eckstein (USN, Ret.), age 60, beloved brother of Rosemary (Lang) Fiebig of Litchfield Park, AZ, passed away suddenly on January 20, 2010 in Cañon City, CO.
LCDR. Eckstein was born in Chicago, IL, on December 3, 1949 to the late Frank C. and Loretta (Vollmann) Eckstein (last of Phoenix, AZ); and raised in Elmhurst, IL where he graduated from York Community High School in 1968.
William was a graduate of the Northwestern University Technological Institute in Evanston, IL, in 1972, with a BS degree in Chemical Engineering; and later received a BA in Business Administration from Northwood University in Texas. He graduated from the Naval Officer’s Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island, in 1974. During his long military career, William distinguished himself serving with various Naval Aviation groups, including serving as commander of aircraft maintenance on the naval carriers USS America and USS Ranger. In more recent years following his retirement from the Navy, William lived in Cañon City, CO. He loved restoring historic homes, farming, hunting, fishing, and the great outdoors. He had never married.
Joseph Miller
Joseph Miller, 89, of Sun City, Arizona, passed away Saturday, February 27, 2010. Loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Preceded in death by his wife of 60 wonderful years, Mary. Survived by his children: Patricia Carter (Robert), Joseph (Mia) and Lawrence (Nancy); grandfather of seven and great grandfather of four. Visitation will be 9-10 a.m. with Rosary at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 5, 2010 at Menke Funeral Home, 12420 N. 103rd Ave., Ave. in Sun City, AZ. ( 623) 979-6451. Funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. on Friday at St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church, 15800 N. Del Webb Blvd., Sun City, AZ. Interment will follow mass at Sunland Memorial Park. Memorial gifts are suggested to Hospice of Arizona, 12740 N. Plaza Del Rio Blvd., Peoria, AZ 85381.
Joe Rooney Slack
Joe Rooney Slack passed away on February 12, 2010 at the age of 87 years. He was born in Yuma, Arizona and raised in Glendale, Arizona. He attended Glendale schools and ran the family business of Slack Motors in downtown Glendale until his retirement in the early 80’s. Mr. Slack was preceded in death by his first wife Marjorie in 1968, his second wife Esther in 2008, grandson Dennis Rice, Jr., parents Harry and Dixie Slack, sisters Janis Granger and Florence Nickell. He is survived by his children Linda Irish, Christine Parker (Roy), Burt Slack (Lynn), Joe R. Slack, Jr. (Colleen), Pete Slack (Mary), Sam Slack (Cheryl), Jim Rice (Jackie), and Dennis Rice (Linda). Also surviving is a sister Madge Martz (Kermit) as well as twelve grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. A viewing will be held Wednesday, February 17th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Menke Funeral Home, 12420 N. 103rd Avenue, Sun City, Arizona. Graveside services will be private. The family would like to thank the staff at Peppertree Square, John C. Lincoln Hospital, Chris Ridge Village and Cornerstone Hospice for their care and kindness to our father and grandfather.
Ellen Jane Diede
Ellen J. Diede, 72, of Glendale Arizona, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2010. She was the CEO of Diedes Transport, Incorporated in Phoenix Arizona.
She is survived by her husband Ira of 48 years, her son Greg, his wife Denise, and two grandchildren Denee’ and Greg Jr. Diede.
Her visitation will be held at the Menke Funeral Home, 12420 N. 103rd Ave., Sun City, Arizona on February 11, 2010 from 5-8:00 PM with Pastor Ralph Robertson officiating.
The memorial service will be held at the Peoria – Sun Cities Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 13450 N. Plaza Del Rio Blvd. in Peoria on February 13, 2010 at 3PM.
Edwin B. Hirth III
Edwin B. Hirth III born February 26, 1952 passed away on February 27, 2010. Edwin graduated from Arizona State University in 1974 with a degree in Fine Arts, as well as post graduate studies at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA. He has been an artist in the Phoenix area for more than 30 years. Many have enjoyed his murals and posters in airports, restaurants and museums. He is survived by his loving wife of 23 years Barbara, his mother Katherine Hirth, brother Gary Hirth, sisters Constance Mitchell and Sandra Kolb as well as 31 nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his precious Cody and Patches.
A Memorial to celebrate his life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 6, 2010 at Menke Funeral Home, 12420 N. 103rd Ave., Sun City, AZ. All family and friends are welcome.
