John Russell Plylar, Sr.
John Russell Plylar, Sr., 91, passed away on March 24, 2010 at the Odyssey (hospice) inpatient house in Peoria, AZ. He wanted to be remembered as a family man and ‘regular guy’. His compassion for others, his wonderful sense of humor, and his belief in maintaining standards of the highest integrity, inspired family and friends alike. Russell brought joy and comfort to all who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 66 years Elizabeth Ann, his only son Russ, his daughter-in-law Deborah, his grandchildren David Plylar and Vanessa Kisicki, and two lovely great grandchildren Lauren and Corinne. Russell grew up in Jasper, AL and was a graduate of Walker County HS. He moved to Chillocothe, MO to attend Chillocothe Business College where he met the love of his life Elizabeth Ann. After serving in the Army during WWII, Russell began a long relationship as controller for Sears Roebuck & Co. The family lived for 12 years in Durham, NC. where he was a member of Trinity Avenue Presbyterian Church and where he began his 52 years as a member of Fellowship (Masonic) Lodge No. 687, Durham. In 1965, he was transferred to Winston-Salem, NC where he retired from Sears in 1980. Russell was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Winston-Salem, the Winston-Salem Twin City Host Lions, and the Sears Retiree Club. During his retirement he spent many years as a volunteer to help people with income taxes, help set up small businesses through the REV program, and play golf with his buddies. He and Elizabeth Ann enjoyed visiting family and taking vacations with Russ and Deborah. He and Elizabeth Ann made the difficult decision to move to Phoenix, AZ to be with family in the summer of 2005. A memorial service was held for Russell at the Menke Funeral Home Chapel in Sun City, AZ and he was laid to rest at Forsyth Memorial Park in Winston-Salem, NC. Condolences may be sent to Elizabeth Ann Plylar, 10639 N Aberdeen Rd., Scottsdale, AZ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that friends support their favorite hospice organization.

Jacqueline Hertzing Ferguson
Jacqueline Hertzing Ferguson, 82, of Sun City, AZ passed away April 11, 2010. Jacqueline was born in St. Louis, MO on January 31, 1928 to Ferdinand and Mary Reinkemeyer. She moved to Arizona in 1982 and was employed as a transportation supervisor at Luke AFB for over 20 years. She was a member of St. Joachim & St. Anne Catholic Church in Sun City. She was preceded in death by her second husband, Clinton Ferguson. Survivors include her first husband, Vincent F. Hertzing; son Scott Hertzing (Heather); sister Patricia Bossert and grandchildren, Nicholas, Caitlyn & Nathan. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at Menke Funeral Home, 12420 N. 103rd Ave., Sun City, AZ with funeral mass to follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joachim & St. Anne Catholic Church, 11625 N. 111th Ave., Sun City, AZ.

Irma Gertrude Roos
Irma Gertrude Roos, 86, of Sun City, Arizona passed away April 15, 2010. Irma was born in Prairie View, Kansas. Irma was a seamstress and retired to Arizona in 1991 from Colorado. She is survived by her husband Harold; son Dennis Lee; daughter Laurie Ilene Stuck and 2 grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at the West Valley Christian Fellowship, 12649 N. 105th Ave., Sun City, Arizona.

Gloria M. Valkingburg
Gloria M. Valkingburg, 76, of Goodyear, Arizona passed away April 20, 2010. Gloria was born May 1, 1933 in Gallup, New Mexico. An Arizona resident for 44 years, she is survived by her husband of 60 years, Paul Valkingburg; daughter Renee Jankowski (Jim); son Paul Valkingburg, Jr.; brother David Imboden; 3 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 23, 2010 at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cavecreek Rd., Phoenix, Arizona.

Don Robert Holder
Don Robert Holder age 47, was born February 11, 1963 in Phoenix, AZ. Don passed away April 21, 2010 after a long battle with cancer. As a child he went to Glendale Elementary Schools and he attended and was a graduate of Greenway High School. An avid sportsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and the outdoors. One of his many passions was motorsports, NASCAR and off road vehicles (his rhino).
Don was a proud member of the plumbers and pipefiters local union #469. He enjoyed working for W.D. Manor Mechanical Contractors until his illness.
Don is survived by his mom Carolyn Bradberry and step-father Mike Bradberry; his son Johnny Holder; two sisters Christine (Cody) Wayland and Stephanie (Gene) Bend; grandmother Helen Cook; aunts Barbara (Cliff) Wilembrecht, Evelyn Bailey and Bobbie Lydic (Harold); his loving fiancée Debbie Frost and her family; his many nieces, nephews, cousins and his many good friends he leaves behind. Don was preceded in death by his father Johnny R. Holder; his grandfather Lyle Cook and grandparents Hank & Bessie Williams of Peoria, AZ. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. with visitation 1 hour prior to the service on Monday, April 26, 2010 at Menke Funeral Home Chapel, 12420 N. 103rd Ave., City, AZ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014. A special thanks to his hospice nurse Mary!!

Annette P. Kane
Annette P. Kane passed away on April 14, 2010 she was born in Chicopee, Massachusetts on Jan. 16, 1925. She moved to Arizona in 1947 with her late husband James R. Kane Sr. Being very good with numbers she worked as a bookkeeper and auditor, she worked as a controller at Valley View Community Hospital from 1969 until she retired in 1988. She was a member of the Soroptimists and St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church. She enjoyed golf, bingo, watching sports on TV, dinner with friends and family. She is survived by her sons James R. Kane Jr. and John A. Kane, their wives, 2 brothers, 1 sister, 5 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. with Rosary 5:00 p.m., Friday, April 23, 2010 at Menke Funeral Home, 12420 N. 103rd Ave., Sun City. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 24, 2010 at St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church, 15800 N. Del Webb Blvd., Sun City, AZ. Burial to follow at Sunland Memorial Park in Sun City.

June Elizabeth Foss Woida
June Elizabeth Foss Woida, age 90, born February 1, 1920 in Kankakee, IL to Adele and Edwin Foss, passed away May 9, 2010 from natural causes. She is survived by her loving husband, George of Sun City; son Joseph (Margene) of Milwaukee, WI; daughter Cheryl (Gary) Taylor of Salt Lake City, UT; 5 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, many relative and friends. She will be missed by all. Our gratitude to the Banner Hospice for all of their help! Private services were held at Menke Funeral Home with interment at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona. In lieu of flowers, please offer a mass for the repose of her soul.

Teresa Arvilla Burkey
Teresa Arvilla Burkey, 91, of Sun City, Arizona passed away on May 19, 2010 at her home. Teresa was born August 26, 1918 in Milford, Nebraska to William R. and Lydia (Steckley) Eicher. A homemaker, Teresa came to Arizona in 1954 from Hesston, Kansas. Preceeding her in death is her husband of 69 years, Perry Burkey on July 4, 2006, and grandsons Christopher Smith and Chad Martin. Teresa is survived by her daughters, Lillian Smith-Laurinec & Jerry, Margaret Martin & Dell and Bonnie Simons; brothers Lloyd and Floyd Eicher; sister Violet Troyer; grandchildren David, Reg, Kelly, Monty, Stephen, Teresa and Georgette; 11 great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 5, 2010 at Menke Funeral Home Chapel, 12420 N. 103rd Ave., Sun City, Arizona.

Stephen Joseph Kloscak
Stephen Joseph Kloscak, 89, of Sun City, AZ passed away June 5, 2010. He was born in 1920 in Lakewood, Ohio and served his country in the U.S.M.C. during WWII. A General Motors retiree, he retired to Sun City in 1987. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Irene (Sholtis) Kloscak; children, Cynthia Walsh, Stephen G. Kloscak, Michael Kloscak (Cindy), James Kloscak, Joseph Kloscak (Cheryl) and Marla Wood (Rob); 5 grandsons; 5 grand-daughters and 1 great grandson. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 14, 2010 at Menke Funeral Home Chapel, 12420 N. 103rd Ave., Sun City, AZ. Burial with military honors will follow at 12:30 p.m. at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd., Phoenix, AZ. Donations are suggested to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014.

Russell C. Strohacker, Jr.
Russell C. Strohacker, Jr., 83, of Sun City passed away July 10, 2010. Born in Coshocton, Ohio he was a US Army veteran and moved to Arizona in 1978. Survivors include his wife Verna; children Kathy, Nancy, Debbie, James and Steve; step children Sherry, John and James; brother Paul; sister Dorothy; 18 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Visitation 5-8 p.m. Friday, July 16, 2010 at Menke Funeral Home, 12420 N. 103rd Ave., Sun City, AZ. Funeral mass 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 17, 2010, St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, 9728 W. Palmeras Dr., Sun City, AZ. Burial 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 19, 2010 at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd., Phoenix, AZ.

Russell C. McShane
Russell C. McShane, 80, of Sun City passed away April 10, 2010, of cancer. Russell was born in Cleveland, Ohio. He served his country in the US Air Force and was a retired Hospital Administrator. He is survived by his wife Evelyn; his brother Max; his daughter Cindy; sons Brian & Jeff; 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Private family arrangements were made with Menke Funeral Home.

Robert William Koer
Robert William Koer, 80, of Peoria, AZ passed away July 11, 2010. Born in Salt Lake City, UT, Mr. Koer served in the US Marine Corps in Korea. A Civil Service Engineer, he retired after 29 years of service at Hill A.F.B. in Ogden, Utah, moving to Peoria in 1998. Survivors include his daughter Suzanne Schilffarth of Sebring, FL, sons Joseph Koer of Portland, OR and Michael Koer of Wittmann, AZ; brother Jacob (Jean) of Ogden, UT; 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by wife Mae Koer. Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, July 16, 2010 at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd., Phoenix, AZ.
