Alrie F. Thompson
Alrie F. Thompson 92, quietly passed away on April 11, 2011 in Sun City, AZ. He was born Sept. 16, 1918 in Fort Dodge, IA. Al was married to former Ericca Bunting for 64 years prior to her passing in 2003. He moved to Arizona in 1965 from Nebraska and was a real estate broker prior to his retirement. He was preceded in death by his wife, three brothers and a sister. Survivors include son Jim Thompson of Papillion, NE; son Arden Thompson of Sun City, AZ, 4 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. Visitation 9-10 a.m. with funeral service at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at Menke Funeral Home Chapel, 12420 N. 103rd Ave., Sun City, AZ. Edward Joseph Deklotz
Edward J. Deklotz, age 94 was born in Lincoln, Nebraska on October 23rd 1916 and was called home to the Lord on April 20, 2011. He attended the University of Nebraska receiving a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering in 1939. Early employment included working for oil refining companies in West Texas and Central Kansas. He did research and development into the use of soil-cement as a low cost paving material for secondary roads and light aircraft for the Portland Cement Association in Chicago. As a Lieutenant in the U.S. Naval Reserve he was called to active duty during WWII. He served for 3 years at the U.S. Naval Operating Base in Palermo Sicily. Following the war he was employed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Omaha Nebraska as a construction materials specialist at the Missouri River Division Laboratory in Omaha. After 32 years of service he retired in 1975 then as Director of the Laboratory. He was a Fellow in the American Society of Civil Engineering, Member of the American Society for Testing Materials and Member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He moved to Sun City in 1978 and is a member of St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church. He was active in the Sun City Cycle Mates cycling club and was a volunteer in the West Side Food Bank for 7 years. He was preceded in death by his wife Loraine and is survived by three children: Joseph E of Delafield Wisconsin (wife Pat); Timothy E. of Sacramento California; and Sandra D. Daugherty of Gold River California. Ed has three grandchildren: Amber (husband Nate Baumann), Richard (wife Nicole) and Chelsea and 4 great grandchildren (Alivia, Adeline, Ashton, and Aden Baumann). Robert Oliver Newman
Robert Oliver Newman of Sun City, AZ, passed away on April 27, 2011, at the age of 91. He was born June 8, 1919, in Slater, Iowa to Oliver & Mae Newman. He was married to Darlene Gfeller of Alleman, Iowa, on April 20, 1941, and recently celebrated 70 happy years of marriage to his loving wife. Bob learned to fly as a teenager and, during WWII, served in the Army Air Corps as a flight instructor for Women Air Service Pilots (WASP). Aviation continued to play a large role in Bob’s life. He was engaged in aircraft sales, taught flying lessons, and shared ownership of a private plane. He served as pilot for the Iowa State Highway Commission in the 1960’s-70’s. During his lifetime, he also farmed near Slater, Iowa, was a cattle feed salesman for Nutrena Mills in Nebraska, owned a truck stop restaurant in Omaha, served as General Manager of a country club in Kansas City, and owned an Ace Hardware store in Chillicothe, Missouri. Prior to retiring, Bob enjoyed his position as Vice President of South Story Bank and Trust in Huxley, Iowa. Bob enjoyed golfing, camping, hunting, fishing, playing cards, telling Ole and Lena jokes, and having “Happy Hour” with his friends and family. Besides being the handyman in the family, he was known for his outgoing and friendly nature, his sense of humor, and his love of telling stories. Bob was dearly loved by his family and made friends wherever he went. Bob is survived by his wife, Darlene, brother Jerry Newman (Phillis), sister Marilyn Green (John), daughters Pam Taylor (Bob) and Shari Severson (Al), grandchildren Dan Taylor (Amy), Barry Taylor (Lorri), Shelly Richardson (Todd), Jeff Severson, Jason Severson (Diane), and 12 adoring great-grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and many friends. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Slater, Iowa. Robert James Lambie
Robert J. Lambie, 80, passed away on 4/19/11 at home in Corte Bella. He was born in Ironwood, MI, and lived in Wisconsin and Arizona. He is survived by his wife, 3 children, 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Bob was a Korean War veteran, ASU graduate and 32 year employee of Valley National Bank. He was also actively involved in Kiwanis and Rotary International for many years. Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, 4/25/11 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church 14818 W. Deer Valley, Sun City West, AZ followed by his burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, 10045 W. Thomas, Avondale, AZ.
Bruce Kenyon Young
Bruce K. Young, 88, passed away on April 10, 2011. Bruce was born on June 26, 1922, in Russellville, Arkansas. Bruce retired from the Movie Theatre business in 1988 as a Senior District Manager at Commonwealth Theatres in Denver, Colorado. Bruce was an army veteran of WW II and later became the first veteran from World War II to become Commander of the American Legion in Dyersburg, TN. He is survived by his wife, Catherine Young, and sons Mark (Patrice) Young and Ken Young. Bruce had 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. To honor Bruce’s wishes, a private service with family members only has been held. The family suggests memorial donations be made to your favorite charity.
Sylvia Eirich
Sylvia (Epstein) Eirich, born on December 2, 1931 in New York City passed away Sunday April 10, 2011 in Sun City AZ. Sylvia lived a full and happy life. She is survived by her husband Charles and daughter Jeannie Hagerty of Sun City and sons Michael of Fishers, Indiana and Joel of Belleville, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her son Lawrence and husbands Joseph Hagerty, Herb Schriftman and David Smith. Sylvia had 14 grandchilden, Jeffrey Jimenez, Julie Jimenez, Eric Hagerty, Angela Hagerty, Kristen Pourbahrami, Kimberly Williams, Sierra Pyritz, Kendra Hagerty, Shawna Babjac, James Hagerty, Liz Hagerty, James Vedder, Jerome Vedder, and Dustin Hagerty and 11 great grandchildren.
Her family will miss her sense of humor, willingness to lend a caring ear, common sense advice and wisdom. During her final years she became quite computer proficient and loved her time on Facebook and Skype, often spending time talking to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Betty J. Coffey
Betty J. Coffey of Sun City AZ passed away on Friday April 8th at the age of 82. Betty was an only child born and raised in Illinois. In the 1950s Betty and her mother moved to Los Angeles in search of employment and a better life. She found both in a career with Western Union and finding her soul mate James Coffey. Following their marriage in 1957 they transferred to San Francisco Bay area where they both lived and worked together for over 30 years. They enjoyed 10 years of retirement in Kentucky, until Betty’s mother passed away. Betty and Jim then spent the last 22 years in Sun City AZ. Betty dedicated her last few years to caring for Jim, her one true love, and now follows him to their great reward. Betty’s charming smile, friendly manner, and warm hospitality will be missed by both friends and family. A memorial service for both James and Betty Coffey will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 28, 2011 at St. Joachim & St. Anne Catholic Church, 11625 N. 111th Ave., Sun City, Arizona.
John S. Elchlinger
John S. Elchlinger passed into Heaven on Friday, March 3, 2006, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born to the late Mary and Vendal Elchlinger on July 19, 1926, in Cleveland, Ohio and brother to Mary Spinhirn deceased.
John is survived by his loving wife, LaVerne of 48 years, daughters, Debra Ryan Dan, Lana Owens Brant, Cheryl Mowinski David and son, Thomas Redlin Linda. His grandchildren, Sherri Mowinski, Steven Redlin, Bradley Redlin, Rachelle Lohr Redlin, Jonathan Owens and Jason Owens. He is also Step-Grandpa to Tony Parker Theresa, and Great Grandpa to Ashlyn Rachelle Lohr, Kaitlyn Parker and Jenna Parker.
John was a World War II Veteran, serving in the Third Infantry Division in the European Theatre. He was a Police Captain in Garfield Heights, Ohio for 25 years. Captain Elchlinger retired from the police force in November 1979. He moved to Scottsdale, Arizona along with his wife, LaVerne, in 1979, eventually settling in Sun City, where they have resided since. John went to work for the travel industry in Arizona where he was very happy for many years. He leaves many dear friends at the Wigwam Resort in Goodyear, Arizona.
Dorothy Berneice Lemons
Dorothy “Berneice” Lemons, 86, passed away March 19, 2011. Born in Wilburton, Oklahoma to Harvey Lawrence and Sylvia Wilcox and raised in Globe/Miami, Arizona. She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Clyde; three of her four children, Sylvia Urman (David); Mark; Russell (Pam); ten grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren; brother (Jack Lawrence, Rush Springs, Oklahoma); and many nieces, nephews and friends. She is predeceased by her son, David Berlis and brother, Harvey Lawrence. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 26, 2011 at Menke Funeral Home, 12420 N. 103rd Ave., Sun City, AZ.
Helen Marie Boyle
Helen Marie Boyle, of Sun City, age 97, passed from this life on Thursday, December 9, 2010, after a lengthy illness.
Born Helen Donaldson in Tulsa, OK, on March 6, 1913, at age 7 she moved with her mother, Elsie Donaldson, to Arizona where she became a life-long resident.
Two sons, Stanley and Wesley, were born to an early marriage. Helen later married a second time to William Boyle and the two became long-time ranchers in the west Glendale area. The couple became residents of Sun City in it’s early days.
A member of the Community of Christ Church in Phoenix, Mrs. Boyle was greatly respected as a generous contributor to many charitable causes. She also volunteered at Boswell Hospital, amassing over 3000 hours of donated time over the years.
Helen Boyle is mourned by her son, Wesley DeBusk, grandson Robert (Cathy) DeBusk and their children Dylan and Case, by grandson Trent (Wendee) DeBusk and their child Delaney, as well as her former daughter-in-law Faye (Russell) Horne. She will also be sorely missed by many friends and acquaintances.
Mrs. Boyle was predeceased by her husband of many years, William Boyle, and by her oldest son, Stanley.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, December 14, at 11:00 a.m. at Resthaven Memorial Park (south side) at 64th and Northern Avenues in Glendale.

Frieda (Fritzie) Wysocki
Frieda (Fritzie) Wysocki, 94, of Sun City West, AZ passed away on March 15, 2016 with her daughter Sharon by her side. She was born April 5, 1921 in Youngstown, Ohio to Christine & Louis Steib. During World War II, Fritzie worked for Military Intelligence at the Pentagon, honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant. She moved to Chicago, IL and married Ervin Wysocki June 15, 1946. They moved to Broadview, IL raising son Brian and daughter Sharon, then lived in Hillside, IL before retiring to Sun City West in 1980. Fritzie had worked for National Van Lines and the Archdiocese of Chicago. Enjoying her retirement, Fritzie was active in Westerners Square Dance, Pioneer Club, ceramics, RV club and volunteered at Del Webb Hospital.
Fritzie was preceded in death by her parents, Christine and Louis Steib, sisters Louise Merwin, Mary Ellen Jones and brother Louis Steib, Jr. She is survived by son Brian (Connie) Wysocki, Palatine, IL, daughter Sharon (Bill) Chesney, Sun City West, AZ, granddaughter Amy (Ryan) Givens, Alexandria, VA, grandson Jeffrey Wysocki, Chicago, IL, sister Lucy Hammer, Longwood, FL and numerous nieces and nephews.
Fritzie will be interred with her husband Ervin at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona on March 29, 2016 at 10:30 a.m.
