Orval "Grig" Grigsby
Born 1920 to (deceased) Raymond and Clara Grigsby. Lived on a dairy farm near East Meredith, N.Y. and then on a wheat and cattle homestead near Conrad, Mont.
Went to college in Havre, Mont. where he earned an associate degree. Was drafted into WWII and was in the Pacific. Was honorably discharged as a Master Sergeant in the Army Air Corps. Completed a BA From UC Berkeley in Psychology. Worked for PG&E; in San Francisco for over 30 years. Retired as head of personnel for the Gas Department.
Hobbies were fly fishing and making custom jewelry. Longtime resident of Concord and Orinda, Calif., moved late in life to Green Valley and Tucson.
Was married for 47 years to Harriet Bird Grigsby (died 1993) and with her had and is survived by two children: Robert Grigsby of Tucson and Martha Credit of Lenexa, Kan., and by Martha's husband Peter Credit and their son, Kevin Credit, both also of Lenexa. His second wife, Elizabeth Pomeroy Higgins Grigsby, died in 2000. His older brother, Everet, of Conrad, preceded him in death.
He is also survived by his younger brother Delbert and by Delbert's wife, Jo, both of Mesa, by Everet's wife Ruth of Conrad and by Harriet's brother John C. Bird of Birmingham, Ala. and by Elizabeth's daughter (Orval's stepdaughter) Nancy Klatzkow of Miami, Fla., and numerous other relatives.
Memorial service will be June 6 at noon at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Northwest Tucson (520) 579-7094. The family will lay his ashes to rest in a private ceremony in Lafayette, Calif., next to Harriet, in July.
C. Lawson Horn
C. Lawson Horn, a resident of Green Valley the past 25 years, died Wednesday, May 19, 2004, in his sleep at age 88.
He was born and raised in Pickrell, Neb., and graduated with a BS degree in Chemistry from Doane College.
He and his wife Marjorie moved to Green Valley after raising a family and living for many years in Freehold, N.J., where he was a production manager.
He was an accomplished archer, an avid golfer, and enjoyed woodworking.
Surviving are a son, Brian, Florence, Ore.; a daughter, Karen, Alderpoint, Calif.; a brother, Leon, Grand Island, Neb..; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and good friend and caregiver Dyane Deslauriers, Sahuarita.
Frances MacMillan James
Frances MacMillan James passed away Monday, May 24, 2004, in Little Rock, Ark.
Born in Mason City, Iowa, on Feb.17, 1916, she was the third child of Harlan MacMillan and Isabel Smith MacMillan. After attending the Chicago School of Art, she married Thomas F. James of Mason City, Iowa, on Oct. 10, 1936, in a double wedding ceremony with her sister Elizabeth MacMillan and Frank Spangler.
Frances and Tom were winter residents of Green Valley for nearly 14 years. When Tom died in December 2003, Tom and Frances had been married for 67 years.
Her artistic ability was evident in her love of the piano, watercoloring, and interior design.
She was proud of her Scottish heritage and membership in DAR and DAC.
Her genealogical investigations revealed that many of her ancestors were Presbyterian clergy, some were participants in the American Revolution, and some were involved in the Underground Railroad.
Behind her quiet reserve was a woman of deep religious faith.
Above all, she was dedicated to creating a home for her family; she was a lifelong source of moral support and encouragement for her children.
Frances is survived by her five children: Douglas Murdoch James and his wife Jane of Scottsdale, Ariz.; Thomas MacMillan James and his wife Sondra of Hutchinson Island, Fla.; Judith James Scherer of Little Rock, Ark.; Robert Raymond James and his wife Donna of Edina, Minn.; and Charles William James and his wife Ann of Woodland, Minn.; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas F. James and her eldest child Phillip MacMillan James.
A graveside service will be held in Mason City, Iowa, at Elmwood Cemetery on July 10, 2004, at 10:30 a.m.

Oliver Paul Einhorn
Oliver Paul Einhorn, born July 20, 1916, in Chicago Heights, Ill., passed away with a family member holding his hand on Aug. 13, 2004, in his room at Sunrise Assisted Living in Hermosa Beach, Calif.
He had been a resident of Hermosa Beach for just over one year. Prior to that, he and his wife Elodie had been residents of Green Valley for 10 years. They met and were married in San Francisco, Calif. in 1947; Elodie passed away one year ago in Green Valley.
He is survived by sons Stephen, David and John; sister Evelyn; daughters-in-law Susan Einhorn and Lora Childers; and granddaughter Heather Einhorn Corder.
Oliver was a wonderful husband and loving father, raising three sons. He was a World War II veteran, and worked for the Whirlpool Corp. for more than 30 years. Although spread across the country, all of his sons and daughters-in-law joined Ollie in California for his 88th birthday last month in Redondo Beach. The week-long celebration included a trip to Hollywood and several trips to the beach.
A memorial Mass will be held at a future date in or around San Francisco after which both Oliver's and Elodie's ashes will be spread by the family in the San Francisco Bay in commemoration of their meeting and marriage in that city.

HELEN LUELLA HOLMGREN
HELEN LUELLA HOLMGREN, a Green Valley resident for 23 years, passed away Friday, Aug. 20, 2004, at the age of 81.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Victor and Elsie Holmgren; aunt Bernie Holmgren; first husband and father of all her children John Howard Chandler; second husband Reuben E. Carlson; and sister June Knutson, who was a longtime Green Valley resident. She also lost her first-born son, Jackie, to polio, at age 10.
She is survived by her other children, all Chandlers, Joseph Paxton, Mary June and Thomas Victor, who with wife Gayle are the parents of her only grandchild, Laura Allyse. She also leaves many cousins, nieces, nephews, many wonderful friends and her special caregiver, Phyllis.
She began her life in Warren, Minn., on Nov. 13, 1922. She left 17 years later with a high school diploma and moved to Minneapolis to try her hand at nursing, but that was interrupted by the meeting of J. H. Chandler. She spent most of her life as a homemaker in Minneapolis. Her marriage ended in divorce and she took on the difficult task of raising three spoiled, lazy teenagers. For a time, she served as the executive secretary of the United Nations Association of Minnesota. She then tried her hand at real estate, and though she didn't sell many houses, she made a couple of good investments that helped her through retirement. Her second marriage lasted only 17 months.
The renaissance of her life was moving to Green Valley. When she arrived here in October 1980, she was known as Helen Chandler Carlson, but she had her name legally changed to her maiden name and discovered her true "self." She spent many wonderful, active years as a member of the Valley Players, Aquabelles, Chordettes and volunteering for Friends in Deed, until her medical problems slowed her down.
Her son Joe came to care for her in September 2002. She rallied much to the surprise of her doctor, and she and Joe spent nearly two years rediscovering their relationship, not only as mother and son, but also as best friends. Sadly, her long battle with chronic lung disease overtook her, and she want to sleep peacefully and left this world.
She left her body to scientific research and requested no service. Her smile and kindness to others will never be forgotten.
LEWIS WELDON
LEWIS WELDON, 80, an active voice in Green Valley for 20 years, passed away on Monday, Aug. 23, 2004.
His wife Joan preceded him in death April 17, 2003.
He was born July 29, 1924 in Roxbury, Mass. He was a World War II vet, having spent 5 years in the Marine Corps, and a graduate of the University of Massachusetts in Clinical Psychology.
Lew spent most of his career as an insurance executive before retiring to Green Valley where he was a member of the Green Valley Fire District, Sheriff's Auxiliary Volunteers, Green Valley Recreation, Pension Board for Police and Firefighters, board of directors of Kino Hospital, to name a few.
He leaves behind to mourn his daughter Lugene D. Peais and family of Texas, brother Sam and family of New Jersey, brother Charles Conrad and wife Lynne of Green Valley, brother-in-law Jim Rochow and his wife Ellie of California. Also his dear friends Dave and Janet Strebe, Pat Fisher and family, Joe Leduks, George Morany and family, Mike and Nancy LaSota of California, and a host of others.
There will be a memorial service at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, date to be announced.
It was Lew's choice that burial services will be private.

ALVIE VIRGIL BURTON
ALVIE VIRGIL BURTON passed away peacefully on Aug. 9, 2004, surrounded by friends and family. Alvie was born on Dec. 3, 1915, in Webster County, Kentucky, and spent most of his adult life in Kentucky and southern Indiana. He married Ruth Evelyn Dennis on Dec. 5, 1953, and they had one daughter, Rovecka Ann Vinson.
Alvie was a 60-year member of the Local 136 Steamfitters Union. Alvie spent the last eight years of his retired life living in Green Valley and was a member of the Green Valley Baptist Church.
Alvie was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth, in 1998. He is survived by his daughter, sisters Sue Johnson and Frances McGraw of Dixon, Ky., and brother A.D. Burton of Greenville, KY.
A. I JORDAN, JR. (JIM)
A. I JORDAN, JR. (JIM) of Green Valley, and Sioux Falls, S.D., passed away on Aug. 21, 2004, in Eden Prairie, Minn., at the age of 96.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, A.J. Jordan Sr. and mother Grace, his brothers Martin and William, his first wife Beatrice Smiley Jordan and second wife Anna Telfer Jordan, and step-daughter Sally Way.
He is survived by his children Judith of Bloomington, Minn., Gretchen (Eric Hodson) of Alexandria, Va., and Thomas (Sharon) of Collbran, Colo., who will all miss his weekly phone calls, and step-daughter Jean Ann O'Mara of Santa Rosa, Calif., four grandchildren: Eric Blumberg (Jocelyn), Sonia Blumberg Marie McGowan (Mike), and Claire Jordan and two step-grandchildren: Steven O'Mara (Cindy) and Leann Rutherford (Darryl).
Jim was born in Sioux Falls on April 3, 1908. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1930 and returned to Sioux Falls in 1935 where he and his brother Bill joined their father in the millwork business. Through their leadership, hard work and salesmanship Jordan Millwork Co. grew to seven locations: Sioux Falls, Aberdeen, Huron, Watertown, S.D., Fargo, N.D., Sioux City, Iowa, and Omaha, Neb. The company remained under Jordan management until 1977.
Jim was very active in social, civic and industrial fields. He served as president of the Woodwork Jobbers Association and the Chamber of Commerce in Sioux Falls. He was active in Masonic affairs, serving as Master of Unity Lodge and Potentate of El Riad Shrine. He served on the boards of the National Bank of South Dakota, the First Bank System and Northwestern Bell.
He enjoyed golf with many good friends at the Minnehaha Country Club and Country Club of Green Valley. He was a member of the Valley Presbyterian Church in Green Valley.
The family wishes to thank the staff at La Posada in Green Valley and Summit Place in Eden Prairie and Methodist Hospice for the loving care our father received over these past few years.
There will be a memorial gathering in the chapel at Summit Place, 9501 Flying Cloud Drive, on Wednesday, August 25 at 2 p.m. and a celebration of his life at Minnehaha Country Club in Sioux Falls on Saturday, Aug. 28 at noon. ELIZABETH JUNE BAUR
ELIZABETH JUNE BAUR, 66, of Green Valley, originally from Sebewaing, Mich., passed away Friday, Aug. 20, 2004, in Tucson.
Elizabeth was born Oct. 25, 1937 in St. Louis, Mich. She is survived by her three daughters, Tammy Staggs of Madera, Calif., Brenda Baur of Green Valley and Karen Jackson of Bad Ax, Mich.; her two sons, Elmo Jr. of Merced, Calif., and Rick of Green Valley; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three sisters; and eight brothers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmo Sr., her parents, three brothers and one sister.
Elizabeth will be sadly missed by all her family and friends.
Viewing for Elizabeth will be Aug. 26 at 10 a.m. at Green Valley Mortuary and Cemetery with services at 11 a.m.
FRANCES NIED
FRANCES NIED, 89, a resident of Green Valley for 30 years and formerly from Chicago, Ill., passed away on Sept. 29, 2004.
She was an active member of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, belonging to the church's Women's Guild, Polish Solidarity and Golden Age.
She was preceded in death by her husband Frank and is survived by daughter, Arlene Haugan (John Miceli), sons Dr. Lawrence (Elke) Nied and Dr. Gerald (Sheryl) Nied, 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
There will be a Mass at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church at noon on Thursday, Oct. 14.
PHILIP ARBUCKLE
PHILIP ARBUCKLE, 92, a winter visitor with his wife to Green Valley for 20 years, died Oct. 2, 2004. He had been a resident of Loveland, Colo., since 1999, and was a former resident of Estes Park, Colo.
Mr. Arbuckle was born in 1912 in Newark, N.J. He attended Now York University and married Florence Hinton on June 8, 1940, in Broomfield, N.J. He had been a resident of both New Jersey and New York before moving to Colorado.
During World War II, he built airplane engines for Wright Aero in Patterson, N.J., and later for General Electric.
After World War II, he and Florence moved to Schenectady, N.Y., where he worked on jet engines. In 1953, he went to work for Martin Marietta and worked there for 22 years until his retirement in 1973. He worked as an engineer on Titan I and Titan II missiles.
Philip's greatest career accomplishment was to participate in the early stages of the space program and to collaborate with NASA engineers.
He was a member of Saint Bartholomew Episcopal Church in Estes Park, and a member of All Saints Episcopal church in Loveland.
Preceded in death by his parents, he is survived by his wife Florence; son Don Arbuckle of Denver, Colo.; daughters Laurie Kearns of Denver and Perry Park, and Elaine Downing of Boulder, Colo.; sisters Helen Richards of San Diego, Calif., and Edythe Wadsten of Bonita Springs, Fla.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial Services will be held Friday, Oct. 8, at 1 p.m. at Saint Bartholomew Episcopal Church in Estes Park, Colo.
