Ignacio Quijada

Ignacio "Nacho" Quijada passed away peacefully at his home on September 6, 2009. Nacho was born December 3, 1929 in Thatcher, Arizona to Margarita and Ramon Quijada. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Lou; son, Ramon (Lydia); daughters, Elaine (Benny) Rodriguez and Evelyn (Joey) Madrid; grandchildren Eli, Sam, Candice, Nacio and Adela; two great grandchildren, brothers, sisters, and many nieces and nephews. Nacho grew up in Klondyke, Arizona and served in the Korean War in 1951. He retired from Magma Copper Company, cowboyed all his life, and he always had his guitar on hand. Nacho was a loving, caring man who touched many peoples’ lives with his music and his humor, and he will be missed terribly by his family and friends. .
Services will be held in Oracle, Arizona at St Helen's Church on Saturday, September 12, 2009. There will be a rosary at 9:30 am and a funeral mass at 10 am. Burial will be at the Oracle Cemetery. Arrangements under the care of Vistoso Memorial Chapel.

Patsy worked inside the house and outside the house since her teenage years except for a short hiatus on the outside part while our two boys were toddlers and a bit longer period after retirement. Shortly after finishing business school she moved to San Diego, roomed with two other hot chicks, and raised the roof nightly at the Beachcomber Club. Lucky for me, she returned to Virginia in August, 1962 and popped into my pizza shop (my summer job after first year at University of Wyoming) with her date (Tom, a HS chum of mine). Needless to say I was struck dumb by her beauty, smile, and laughter. While Tom was showing her off and bragging about "his" girl, Patsy and I were definitely connecting! After about an hour of chit-chat I gave her a free pizza to take home, she slipped her phone number to me, and we both gave Tom the shaft. I called her the next day and we went out for hamburgers (actually, her favorite dinner in those days was a Mighty Moe from Hott Shoppes and that's what she got on our first date). We spent the rest of my summer vacation in a long clinch! When I went back to school she wrote every day (good writer) and she dropped by my house after getting off from her first job to chat with my folks and little brother before going to her night job (she was a real worker). She quickly became the loving daughter my mother always wanted (my family loved her instantly). Her favorite saying about those who laughed at her for not spending money on fancy dresses, jewelry, and the like was “I laugh at them too, all the way to the bank” (she was a saver). After reviewing these characteristics, I applied the scientific method which I had trouble with in my science courses and determined that she would make a good wife (cheap date, great communicator, hard worker, family friendly, and a saver—just kidding, that really was not what attracted me to that sexy gal). Anyway, she hopped a plane and joined me in Wyoming for Christmas and was treated by my buddies to a big party in her honor at the ski resort. We were married the following August and have enjoyed 46 wonderful years together.
Patsy progressed in her career from the fastest typist/stenographer I've ever seen, to executive secretary for CEOs, to personal secretary for General Officers, and finally to manager of all Zenith Data Systems (computers) operations in Europe. Since I was away from home a lot in my government job, sometimes for long periods up to a year, Patsy had to take over everything and she did so in style (she ran the household, raised the kids, cooked and cleaned, paid the bills, and still excelled at her full time job-I did do the taxes). On shorter/nicer trips (Paris, London, Berlin, Rome, Greece, etc.) when she was able she was always ready to go with or without the kids.
Patsy loved life, loved people, loved hard work, and loved to "go". She was truly a superlative wife, mother, friend, and companion and I loved her so much. She thoroughly enjoyed her working life and all the friends she made along the way. Her ten years in the Saddlebrooke community seems to have made her life complete by the overall lifestyle, reconnection with family and old friends, developing unbelievable new friendships, and experiencing the birth and early years of her grandchildren. Bless you all for helping Patsy live a happy life.

Todd Alan Bryant, 43 years old, passed away surrounded by his family and friends on August 13, 2009 after a 2 year battle with cancer. Todd was born and raised in Illinois where he became a Paramedic. He moved to Arizona in 1996 and continued his life-long dream of working in emergency medicine. Joyce Elisa Kowalski, 62 years old, passed away August 11, 2009. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband William J. August 10, 2009, the coronation day of Herbert Erikson who ascended into heaven at age 88. WWII Coast Guard Veteran. Beloved husband of Irene for 65 years; devoted father of Janet (Glenn, Jr.) Peterson, Joyce Jones, and Nancy (Paul) Lowe. Adoring grandfather of Tage (Jodi Elson), Shane (Kristal), Britt and Dawn Peterson, Matthew (Barbara), Daniel, Christopher and Stephanie Jones, and Ethan Lowe. Dear great-grandfather of Hailey, Hunter and Ty Peterson. Fond brother-in-law of Lois Erikson and Marge Hanus and cousin and uncle to many. Preceded in death by his dear brother, sisters and brothers-in-law, Roy, Ruth (William Wigman), Florence (William George) and William Hanus. Herb was born and raised his family in Chicago. Retired to Tucson in 1982, after 36 years with The IL Bell Telephone Co. where he was a lineman then a repairman. He was blessed with many wonderful friendships, was extremely generous, enjoyed entertaining and making others laugh by the artful telling of stories and jokes. Former member of Resurrection, Dove of Peace and Calvary (Chicago) Lutheran Churches where he faithfully served his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The family deeply thanks Odyssey Hospice caregivers. William Richard Hahman

William Richard (Dick) Hahman, PG
Born Feb. 15, 1936 in Buffalo, NY, died August 10, 2009 in Tucson, AZ. The son of William F. and Faye (Rowe) Hahman, Dick was raised in coal mining towns in Pennsylvania, then in Washington, DC, as his father was first sent to England to engineer the rebuilding of England’s coal mines following WWII, then served as Undersecretary of the Interior.
Dick attended St. Albans, then American University where he lettered in track, football and wrestling. He received his Masters in geology from Univ. of West Virginia. He was a registered geologist in several states, and was an expert trial geologist, never going beyond his deposition. He was known for integrity and truth in geology. He worked in exploration in Canada, the U.S., Mexico and Chile (at El Habra, next to the mine his father opened in the 1920’s).
Dick was passionate about geology, America, and several causes he supported including the Tucson Rod and Gun Club, the NRA, People for the West and St. Jude’s Anglican Church. He was involved in many political battles involving geology.
Dick was a totally devoted father and husband. He leaves behind his wife of 25 years, Kath Macaulay, and his sons Kevin Graap (U of A) and Maj. Brian Collins, USAF and granddaughters Jessica, Jazmin and Jade Collins. His idol was John Wayne.
A memorial service led by Rev. Fr. Keith Bernaducci of the Cathedral at Lexington, KY with reception following will be held at St. Jude’s Anglican Church, 8245 E. Seneca, Tucson, AZ. Geraldine Theresa Cohea
June 14, 1926 - August 10, 2009
Geraldine Cohea, a loving mother, devoted wife, and generous friend passed into eternal happiness on August 10, 2009. Gerry, as she was known to her family and friends, left a legacy of caring, empathy, and a total commitment towards her friends and family. She had a presence that ignited a room when she entered, and a smile that brought joy to the hearts of everybody who were ever fortunate to meet her. Her entire life consisted of the glass always being half full. Gerry is survived by her adoring husband of 64 years, David, her 3 children, Mark, Colleen, and Dennis, her 2 grandchildren, Chris and Scott, and her 1great grandchild, Chris Jr.
Gerry entered the world in Detroit, Michigan on June 14, 1926. Her family whisked her away to Waterloo, Iowa when she was 3 years old. She attended Sacred Heart School where she graduated after 12 years. She then attended beauty college. She embarked on a successful career as a beautician. Her life changed one cold, wintry night in January of 1943 when she and 3 of her friends decided to go to the Electric Park Ballroom in Waterloo. It was there that she met a sailor who was home on leave. The lonely sailor had been out to sea for over 2 years. The sailor approached the beautiful women hoping to get one dance with her. To his surprise she accepted his invitation for a dance and they were inseparable for the duration of his leave. Dave and Gerry were married on July 16, 1945.
Soon after her marriage Gerry settled in to her new role of mother and wife. She instilled religious, social, and community values into her 3 children that helped propel them to lead successful lives. Her guidance through the formative years of her children was the catalyst for their success.
After the children left the nest Dave and Gerry began a new journey together. Hand in hand they traveled the world. The couple visited Israel, Greece, Germany, Holland, Switzerland, France, and Italy in the ensuing years. Dave took a transfer to Tehran, Iran where the two lived for two years.
After Dave retired the two soul mates left the brutal winters and stifling humidity of Des Moines, Iowa and built a beautiful house in Tucson, Arizona in 1989. Gerry became a fixture in the Catholic Church. Regardless of what physical pain she endured her faith was unyielding.
Gerry may be gone from this world, but every person who had the privilege of meeting her will carry the joy of her presence for the rest of their lives.

Don H. Robinson died August 5, 2009. Don was born in 1925. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Gloria, his two sons, and seven grandchildren. Don served in the Navy in WWII. A graduate of Illinois Institute of Technology, he spent his professional life as an aerospace engineer and program manager in Southern California. He and Gloria retired to Oro Valley and Door County, Wisconsin in 1991. Don’s family asks that Memorials in his name be made to Casa de la Luz Hospice, 400 W. Magee Rd, Tucson, AZ 85704.
Mary Alice Adams
Mary Alice Adams was born July 17, 1934 in Lincoln County, West Virginia. Mary went to be with the Lord on May 26, 2013.
Mary enjoyed gardening, camping, spending time with her family and most of all attending church.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Charles Francis Adams; her sisters Dora Henderson and Laura Caldwell; her brothers Fredland Marcum and Lesley Marcum. Mary is survived by her son, Lyle Dillion Bess, and her four brothers; Enoch Marcum, Arnold Marcum, Harley Marcum and Vernon Marcum; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Mary will be held on Saturday June 8, 2013 at 11:00am at the Verde Valley Church of Christ in Camp Verde, AZ.

Bobby Joe Anthony
Bobby Joe Anthony, 77, of Camp Verde, Arizona, passed away on Friday, May 24, 2013. Bobby was born in Calexico, California to Albert and Clydie Anthony on February 15, 1936.
Bobby enjoyed the outdoors his favorite activities were fishing, boating, golfing and hunting. He was a skilled carpenter and work most of his life building houses. He enjoyed watching football his favorite team being the San Francisco 49ers.
Bobby honorably serviced our nation in Army for 6 years, 3 of the years were served in Germany.
Bobby is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carolyn, daughters Gabriella (Walter Jr.) Shier, Tracy (Mark) Madigan, son Richard (Cynthia) Anthony, brother Delbert Anthony, sisters Donna Smith, Lizzette Anthony and many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family. Bobby was a loving father, husband, grandfather and friend.
Memorial Services will be held on Friday June 7, 2013 at 10:00am at Bueler Funeral Home, 143 West Arnold St. Camp Verde Arizona.
Ethel May Ward
Ethel May Ward, 99, died Friday, May 10, 2013 after a brief illness. She was born on December 4,1913 in Aurora, Kansas to parents John and Estella Snell;and grew up with siblings Lyle and Mildred Kinkiad, and Morris, Albert, Levi,Robert, George, Edith and Addie Snell. Ethel was preceded in death by both parents and all her siblings.
Ethel married James Erickson and moved to Prescott in 1949. They owned and operated an appliance store and she worked as a seamstress in a T-shirt factory and then the hospital. James died in 1976 after a long illness.
Ethel moved to Camp Verde in 1976 and later met and married Paul R. McCoy, who died in 1981 after a brief illness.
Ethel then met Thomas E. Ward and they were married in March, 1993. They lived in Camp Verde and Cottonwood and then moved to Kentucky before they moved back to Camp Verde. Thomas passed away in July, 2012.
Ethel enjoyed playing music, gardening, sewing, arts and crafts, bingo and playing cards. She especially loved making Kachina Dolls, and later greeting cards that she made with flowers she collected and pressed herself. She stayed active and was fiercely independent. She loved attending and being active in the Methodist Church.
She is survived by one sister-in-law, Adaline Snell of Salina, KS; and niece Myrna (Bill) Uhraine of Camp Verde and sons Mike Chapman and Jason Suitor; niece Glenda (Loyd) Wells of Cottonwood and son Nathan; niece Sharon Snell of Highpoint, NC and children Clinton and Jessica; niece Dorothy(Marlin) Janzen of Albuquerque, NM and daughter Janet; niece Arline Johnston of Excelsior Springs, MO; niece Linda (Don) Woodward of Mayfield, KY; and niece Lori Snell of Lancaster, CA. Although Ethel never had any children, she is also survived by her stepson Kevin (Cheryl) Steward of Prescott, and son Shawn;stepdaughter Susan Byrd of Cottonwood, and step grandchildren Richard Ward of Cottonwood, Angela Barrett of Phoenix, and Debbie Veramontez of Phoenix.
Services will be held at the Camp Verde Community Church (Methodist Church)480 First Street Camp Verde, AZ on Saturday May 18 at 1pm.
