William Stephen Coleman

William S. Coleman, Former Insurance Executive
Mr. Coleman, formerly of Freedom, NH and a long-time resident of Westwood, MA died March 24, 2009, in Tucson, AZ after a long illness. He was 89.
Mr. Coleman was born August 12, 1919 in Providence, RI, the son of Edythe Gauvin and Gerald Coleman. After graduating from Central H.S (1937) and Bryant College (1941), he served in the Army Air Corps during WWII as a Staff Sergeant in Ordnance.
On September 18, 1943 he married Barbara Bliss of Rehoboth, MA. They had four children and in 1954 settled in Westwood, MA where they lived until 1984.
Mr. Coleman worked in the insurance field throughout his career for various companies including Providence Washington, American, Fireman’s Fund and finally for the Norfolk and Dedham Mutual Fire Insurance Company, where he was a Vice President until his retirement in 1984.
In Westwood, Bill was involved in the First Parish United Church, the WHS Booster Club, Little League and the Cub Scouts. Both he and Barbara greatly enjoyed their lifelong friends in Westwood who gathered monthly as members of the “Poker Club.” They also loved the outdoors and instilled a similar passion in their children through annual camping vacations during the 50s and 60s to Cape Cod and the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Later in life, they traveled extensively throughout the United States, the Caribbean, Bermuda, and Europe.
Upon retirement, Bill and Barbara relocated to their beautiful vacation home in Freedom, NH on Lake Ossipee, and a waiting sailboat. They embraced their new community and devoted time to the Historical Society, the Freedom Public Library and the First Christian Church. Bill and Barbara were honored for their work in the community when they were named marshals during one of Freedom’s Old Home Week parades. They greatly valued visits from Barbara’s sister Jan and her husband Ed Case with whom Bill played prolific games of cribbage. In 2007, Bill and Barbara relocated to Tucson, AZ to be with their daughter Linda.
Mr. Coleman is survived by his wife of 65 years and their four children Nancy Koza (Mike) of Brewster, MA, Ken Coleman (Tracey) of Gunnison, CO, Linda Coleman (Ben) of Oro Valley, AZ and Steve Coleman (Katy) of Albuquerque, NM, grandchildren Michael Koza of NYC, Karyn Gaynor of Orleans, MA, Kirsten Daily of Gunnison, CO, Reidun Wallin of Alamosa, CO, Connor Coleman of Gunnison, CO, Noel Coleman of Los Angeles, Quinn Coleman of Hilo, HI and numerous great grandchildren. He also leaves a sister, Mrs. Jean Rebello of Providence, RI, sisters-in-law, Janet Case (Ed) of Rehoboth, MA, and Helen Bliss of Jacksonville FL, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Coleman was a reserved New Englander who lived a life exemplified by hard work, integrity, quiet faith, and devotion to family. He is sorely missed by his wife, children, and his extended family and friends.

Janet Louise Sutfin

Janet Louise Sutfin, 67, of Oro Valley, Arizona, passed away March 23, 2009 in Tucson, Arizona. Janet was a loving wife, mother and master teacher.
She is preceded in death by her daughter Wendy Christine and her parents Olaf and Mary Lucile Swanson. Janet is survived by her husband of 44 years, Charles; daughter Julie Anne and partner Jan Roddy; son Derek Charles and wife Karen Cullen; and sisters Margene Berry and Linda Jenkins.
A memorial service for Janet will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday March 26, 2009 at the Episcopal Church of the Apostles, Oro Valley, Arizona.

Rex Thompson, of SaddleBrooke, AZ, died on Monday March 23, 2009 peacefully with his loving wife Esta (nee Goldstein) by his side. Rex was a veteran of the US Airforce, serving his country patriotically during the 1950’s. Rex was born in Michigan and loved his time outdoors in Michigan and Arizona, which both were where his heart was always. He enjoyed a good game of golf and hunting with his friends and family. Patricia A. Rinck, 74, of Marana, Arizona, passed away March 22, 2009 at her home with her family by her side. Richard Benjamin "Dick" Unwin, beloved husband, father, friend and neighbor, passed away on March 22, 2009 at the age of 82. Dick's charm and wit imparted true joy in everybody he encountered. Dick particularly enjoyed spending time with bridge and poker buddies. He will be sorely missed by his SaddleBrooke neighbors and church family at Resurrection Lutheran Church.
Dick and his adored wife, Adair, enjoyed travelling. The family lived in Puerto Rico and Brazil and often visited his native Chile where his siblings Juanita, Betty and Archibaldo and myriad nieces and nephews reside.
Dick is survived by his one true love, Adair; daughters Virginia, Teresa and Alicia. He was preceded in death by his son, Ricardo.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday March 27, 2009 at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 11575 N. First Ave., Oro Valley, Arizona. Arrangements are under the care of Vistoso Memorial Chapel, Oro Valley.

Ted R. Hayes

Born March 1, 1924 in Ames, Iowa, the third son of Dr. Anson and Phebe (McClaran) Hayes. From the age of three through high school, Ted lived in Middletown, Ohio.
The day after graduation, he entered Iowa State University as a civilian, was a member of the ATO fraternity and the ISU swim team. He enrolled in the V-12 Navy program in 1943 and graduated in 1945 with an Electrical Engineering degree. Following Midshipman school at Notre Dame, he married Jane Reynolds of Des Moines on November 9,1945. During WWII, he served 8 months on a mine sweeper in the South Pacific.
From 1947 to 1980, Ted was employed at Delco Electronics in Kokomo, IN. He held several management positions in service, sales, and parts departments. As a member of the First Presbyterian Church, he served as a Deacon and Trustee. He coached Little League and was a member of Jr. Chamber of Commerce, Optimist Club, and the Kokomo Country Club.
Ted retired to Oro Valley in 1980 where he enjoyed his love of golf at Oro Valley Country Club for 25 years. He resided in Sun City for 7 years before moving to Splendido in 2007.
Preceded in death by a daughter, Connie Jane Williams, brothers Dan and Mack Hayes, Ted is survived by his wife Jane, son John Howard Hayes, Riverside, CA, daughter Julia Ann (Steve) Ford of Galveston, IN, son-in-law Lon Williams of Kansas City, MO. Ted also has four granddaughters, Amanda (James) Wilson, Melanie Ford, Jennifer Hayes, and Jessica (Chris) de Armond and three great-grandchildren, Morgan, Madison, and McKenna Wilson.

Robert “Bob” M. Reichard, 71, of SaddleBrooke, passed away March 9, 2009. Guy was born to Gyula & Helen Spiller in San Francisco on September 28, 1943 and was called to be with God on March 4, 2009 after a brave battle with cancer. He died at home with his loving wife Cari at his side. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. Guy is survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins and many loving friends. He was an avid fan of the Arizona Diamondbacks, Cardinals and San Francisco Forty Niners. August 10, 2009, the coronation day of Herbert Erikson who ascended into heaven at age 88. WWII Coast Guard Veteran. Beloved husband of Irene for 65 years; devoted father of Janet (Glenn, Jr.) Peterson, Joyce Jones, and Nancy (Paul) Lowe. Adoring grandfather of Tage (Jodi Elson), Shane (Kristal), Britt and Dawn Peterson, Matthew (Barbara), Daniel, Christopher and Stephanie Jones, and Ethan Lowe. Dear great-grandfather of Hailey, Hunter and Ty Peterson. Fond brother-in-law of Lois Erikson and Marge Hanus and cousin and uncle to many. Preceded in death by his dear brother, sisters and brothers-in-law, Roy, Ruth (William Wigman), Florence (William George) and William Hanus. Herb was born and raised his family in Chicago. Retired to Tucson in 1982, after 36 years with The IL Bell Telephone Co. where he was a lineman then a repairman. He was blessed with many wonderful friendships, was extremely generous, enjoyed entertaining and making others laugh by the artful telling of stories and jokes. Former member of Resurrection, Dove of Peace and Calvary (Chicago) Lutheran Churches where he faithfully served his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The family deeply thanks Odyssey Hospice caregivers. Geraldine Theresa Cohea

Geraldine Cohea, a loving mother, devoted wife, and generous friend passed into eternal happiness on August 10, 2009. Gerry, as she was known to her family and friends, left a legacy of caring, empathy, and a total commitment towards her friends and family. She had a presence that ignited a room when she entered, and a smile that brought joy to the hearts of everybody who were ever fortunate to meet her. Her entire life consisted of the glass always being half full. Gerry is survived by her adoring husband of 64 years, David, her 3 children, Mark, Colleen, and Dennis, her 2 grandchildren, Chris and Scott, and her 1great grandchild, Chris Jr.
Gerry entered the world in Detroit, Michigan on June 14, 1926. Her family whisked her away to Waterloo, Iowa when she was 3 years old. She attended Sacred Heart School where she graduated after 12 years. She then attended beauty college. She embarked on a successful career as a beautician. Her life changed one cold, wintry night in January of 1943 when she and 3 of her friends decided to go to the Electric Park Ballroom in Waterloo. It was there that she met a sailor who was home on leave. The lonely sailor had been out to sea for over 2 years. The sailor approached the beautiful women hoping to get one dance with her. To his surprise she accepted his invitation for a dance and they were inseparable for the duration of his leave. Dave and Gerry were married on July 16, 1945.
Soon after her marriage Gerry settled in to her new role of mother and wife. She instilled religious, social, and community values into her 3 children that helped propel them to lead successful lives. Her guidance through the formative years of her children was the catalyst for their success.
After the children left the nest Dave and Gerry began a new journey together. Hand in hand they traveled the world. The couple visited Israel, Greece, Germany, Holland, Switzerland, France, and Italy in the ensuing years. Dave took a transfer to Tehran, Iran where the two lived for two years.
After Dave retired the two soul mates left the brutal winters and stifling humidity of Des Moines, Iowa and built a beautiful house in Tucson, Arizona in 1989. Gerry became a fixture in the Catholic Church. Regardless of what physical pain she endured her faith was unyielding.
Gerry may be gone from this world, but every person who had the privilege of meeting her will carry the joy of her presence for the rest of their lives.
