Mary Dorthulia Farley Hancock
August 28, 1906 - April 14, 2005
Mary Dorthulia Farley Hancock, age 98, of Cottonwood died Thurday, April 14th. She descended from a pioneer Sedona family. She is the daughter of Joe Farley and Sarah Jane Lay Farley, who homesteaded land located on both sides of Oak Creek, where L'Auberge now stands in Sedona.
Mary was born in Dewey, Arizona on August 28, 1906. The Farley family was established in Sedona at that time but were temporarily in Dewey. She attended local Sedona schools and graduated from Clarkdale High School in 1924. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Hancock, and her sister, Minnie Steele.
On September 3, 1933 she and her husband purchased the Hancock Ranch near Honaki Ruins, halfway between Sedona and Cottonwood and she has resided there ever since. Her husband was a cattle rancher. Joe and Mary were well known for their vineyards and fruit trees, the produce of which was sold throughout the Verde Valley.
Mary was famous for creating an extensive rock garden on the ranch, She was a collector of Indian aartifacts and antiques of all kinds and created a museum on the ranch that she shared with all visitors.
Mary Hancock made friends throughout the world by welcoming people to visit the ranch. She has been a life-long member of the Verde Baptist Church.
Mary is survived by her nephews, Will Steele of Cornville, Ray Steele of Sedona and Bob Willard of Cottonwood,and by her cousins, Joe Derrick of Clarkdale and Jim Derrick of Cornville.
A funeral servie will be held on Friday, April 22nd at the Westcott Funeral Home, 1013 E. Mingus Avenue, Cottonwood at 11:00 A.M., burial will be at Valley View Cemetery in Clarkdale.

Anthony George Allan Kramer
June 11, 1923 - April 15, 2005
Anthony George Allan Kramer, 81, of Sedona, Arizona passed away on Friday, April 15th at his home. He was born in Bancroft, Iowa on June 11, 1923.
He attended Campion Prepatory School in Prarie Du Chien, WI, and George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Mr. Kramer was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Navy.
He was a retired electrician, and moved to Arizona from Colorado. He was a devout Catholic and belonged to St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Sedona, AZ. He was a member of Men of the Sacred Heart, and the Legion of Mary.
Mr. Kramer was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and he is survived by: his wife of 56 years Regina; sons: David Kramer, Frank Prescott both of Prescott, Chris Kramer of Dolores, Colorado, Steve Kramer of Phoenix, Michael Kramer of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Jim Kramer of San Jose, California; daughters: Mary Waechter of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Shelia Velasquez of Phoenix, Lory Kramer of Scottsdale; fourteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
A visitation and rosary were held on Sunday evening, April 17th at the Westcott Funeral Home in Cottonwood and a funeral mass was celebrated on Monday, April 18th at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Sedona. Burial was at All Souls Cemetery in Cottonwood.

Betty J. Youngblood
April 19, 1926 - April 16, 2005
Betty Jane Youngblood passed away on April 16,2005 in Cottonwood, AZ at the age of 78. Betty was born in Alta Loma, CA on April 19 1926 to Herbert and Nellie (Canup) Nagel.
Betty grew up in various areas of California with her parents, her brother Joe and her sisters Sunny, Irene, Mary and Billie Lou. Her fondest memories as a yong woman were of time spent in Yosemite and San Francisco.
Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband Bill in 2002, who she shared over 50 years of marriage with. Betty's real pride was their two children Billie Lynn and James Albert. She was affectionately called "Mimi" by her grandchildren and great granddaughters. Grandchildren from her daugher Billie Lynn include Wende (husband Erik), Penny (husband Neal) and Christopher and great granddaughters Ryann and Morgan Jayne. Grandchildren from her son Jim and his wife Norma include Jimmy, Billy, Mike, Jessica, Crystal, Michelle and Courtney. Betty is also survived by her two sisters Sunny Poirier and Billie Lou Kesse.
Betty shared a close, loving relationship with her family. She was a dedicated Jehovahs Witness for the past 50 years and enjoyed meeting regularly at the Kingdom Hall with her friends. She looked forward to Jehovah's promise at John 5:28, 29 and Psalms 37: 29, when she would be reunited with her husband, parents, brother and sisters in an earthly paradise.
Betty's hobbies included crossword puzzles and scrabble. She was an avid watcher of The Price is Right, Raymond and Friends and she loved a good mystery. She had a real sweet tooth, especially for chocolate and she could eat peanut butter on just about anything.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and "Mimi." She will be geatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Private graveside services will be held at Mountain View Cemetery in Prescott, AZ on April 20, 2005.
A memorial service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witnesses, 1310 Hwy 260, Cottonwood, AZ on Saturday April 23 at 2:00 p.m. with encouraging words from Brother Frank Shaefer.

June Holder, 85, formerly of Camp Verde, Arizona passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2005 in Pasadena, Texas.
She was a volunteer at San Jacinto Medical Center, in Baytown, Texas; she loved the outdoors, flowers, playing table games and most of all her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
June was preceded in death by her husband Tommie Holder, sisters Aileen Fowler and Dorothy Felton and brothers, Ray Holland and Mack Holland.
She is survived by her siblings, Edwina Volkman, of Houston,TX, Marie Finley of Camp Verde, Jerry Vrana of Houston, TX, Bill Holland of Austin, TX and David and Martha Holland of Pearland, TX; children, Linda and Norman Durant of Bay Minnette, AL, Janice and Michael Skaggs of Bakersfield, CA and Tommi and John Ryan of West Fork, AR, grandchildren, Tommie and Michael Rosprim, Alicia House, Ross and Ann Seigler, Danielle Ryan, Marie and Chris Shipp, Curtis and Becky Skaggs and Kara Holland; 11 great grandchildren, Charles, Ricky, Misty, Chris, Tanya, William, Branton, Carter, Emily, Erin, and Joshua and seven great-great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 21, 2005 at 4:00 p.m. at Clear Creek Cemetery in Camp Verde. Carmen Esperanza Asistin

Carmen Esperanza Asistin, 58, of Sedona, (Village of Oak Creek) passed away on Thursday, April 14th. She was born in Santa Maria, California on August 11, 1946.
A resident of Arizona for 8 years, Ms. Asistin worked as a manicurist. She had lived previously in Hawaii where she had owned and operated beauty shops.
Ms. Asistin is survived by her brother William Asistin of Santa Maria, California and many neices and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Guillermo and Carmen (Esperanza) Asistin.
Memorial services will be held in Santa Maria, California, Westcott Funeral Home of Cottonwood assisted with local arrangements.
Robert Switzgable
July 18, 1914 — Sept. 21, 2009
Robert Switzgable, of Lansing, Mich., died Sept. 21. He married Janet Cheshire in 1941. He served in World War II, received the Purple Heart, and then worked as a postman in Chicago until he retired. He lived in Sedona for 20 years. He will be interred with his wife at Mount Hope Cemetery in Lansing. A mass will be at 8 a.m., Dec. 6, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church and a mass in memory of both Switzgables will be Dec. 21.
J. Neil Smith Jr.

J. Neil Smith Jr., husband to Nelly Smith, died Sept. 12 in Denver, Colo., at age 91. A longtime resident of Sedona and an active community leader, he will be missed.
Smith is survived by his daughter Lindley Bell and son Chip Smith. He was a leader of Keep Sedona Beautiful and was actively involved in the State Route 179 redesign. He made life in Sedona better for everyone.
Raymond Siar

Raymond Siar, 76, passed away Nov. 30, in Cottonwood. Ray put up a brave fight with cancer for many years.
Siar was born Nov. 6, 1933, in Roseville, Pa. Survivors are wife Lena, daughter Susan Collinsworth (Jim) grandsons; James Collinsworth II and Jeffrey Collinsworth (Debra), and three great-grandkids; Christina, Rylynn, and Siar.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 13, at Verde Valley Christian Church on State Route 89A, Cottonwood.
Steven Allen Hart

Steven Allen Hart, 46, died Oct. 16 in Phoenix. A resident of Sedona, he moved to Arizona 18 months ago. He was born Jan. 1, 1963, in Detroit, Mich.
He is survived by his mother, Jean Horton of Page; sons Dustin Hart of Flagstaff and Jacob Hart of Mt. Pleasant, Mich.; and brother David Hart of Sedona.
He was preceded in death by his father Patrick and his brother Jerry.
A service was held for him at Greer’s Mortuary of Sedona on Oct. 23.

Joseph Adrian Mahoney, 83, of Clarkdale, died Oct. 1. He was born Feb. 13, 1926, in Barnesville, Ohio .
He leaves daughters Regina Ann Johnson (Robert), Teresa Jane King (Dewayne) and Anna Lee Owen (J.W.); and sons Daniel Joseph Mahoney and Thomas Patrick Mahoney; and stepson Terry Lynn Abbuhl (Patti); a sister Loretta Miller; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Josephine Pelusi, 78, of Sedona, passed away peacefully Oct. 19. She was preceded in death by her husband Rudolph. She is survived by daughter, Loretta Rhoades of Sedona, son Mario (Angela) of Bloomington, Ill., and two grandchildren, Alessandra and Francesca of Illinois.
Visitation will take place Friday, Oct. 23, 9 a.m., at Greers Mortuary. A graveside service follows at 11 a.m., at Sedona Community Cemetery.
Phyllis Asmussen

Phyllis Asmussen, a 26-year Sedona resident, died Oct. 29. She would have been 93 on Christmas Day. She worked for many years as a teacher in Minnesota.
Her immediate family includes three sons, 7 grandchildren, and a great-grandchild to come. Two siblings, Patricia Dickeson and John Lee Bauman, survive her.
A memorial service was held Nov. 8.

Renato Argento died Mon-day, Nov. 2 in Cottonwood.
A resident of Sedona, he lived in Arizona for 22 years.
He was born May 3, 1917, in New York, N.Y.
He is survived by his wife Dolly Argento of Clarkdale; daughter Patti Horttor of Irvine, Calif.; son Aaron Bazan of Eureka Springs, Ark.; and five grandchildren.
No services are scheduled.
