WILMA F. THOMPSON
WILMA F. THOMPSON, of Green Valley, passed away peacefully on Nov. 2, 2010, surrounded by her family.
She was born Dora Wilma Funderburk in Lancaster, S.C. on Dec. 1, 1919. Daughter of Amos and Dora Funderburk, she married Robert “Bob” Thompson on Aug. 12, 1941. Bob passed away in 2006.
She is survived by two daughters: Judy McCraw and Sharon Hoover; two sons: Robert “Bob” Thompson Jr. and Fred Thompson, all residing in Arizona; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild, all of whom she loved dearly.
Family was always top priority for Wilma and she took comfort in knowing she would be reunited with her beloved husband as well as other family and loved ones by “Going Home.”
We shall forever miss and love her. She will never be forgotten.
Charles Orr
Longtime resident and former general contractor Charles M. Orr passed away Friday evening, May 19, at Kingman Regional Medical Center.
Charles Munson 'Chuck' Orr was born on Jan. 31, 1928, in Buckhannon, W.Va., the son of Uriah Newton Orr and Sarah Munson Orr. When the depression hit West Virginia in 1930, the family moved to Tucson and then Ajo, Ariz., where his father, a pharmacist by trade, eventually found work as an assayer at the Phelps Dodge copper mine. When the depression hit Arizona and the copper mine shut down, economic circumstances caused the family to live for several years in a tent house (a two-room dwelling with a crude wood frame covered with canvas). These impoverished circumstances didn't prevent Chuck from becoming an Eagle Scout and excelling in music. During his freshman year, he earned the honor of making first chair as the bass clarinet player in the All-State Band.
Chuck attended Ajo High School during the war years. Due to gas rationing and limited budgets, he excelled at the only organized sport offered, which was boxing. He also played the saxophone in a dance band from that time until the 1950s, when big band music lost favor to rock and roll.
Between 1946 and 1950, Chuck attended Arizona State Teachers College in Flagstaff (now NAU), paying his own way working part time as a bellhop, janitor, and of course, playing in a dance band. He earned his undergraduate degree from ASTC Flagstaff and later received his master's in Industrial Arts from ASTC Tempe (now ASU). While studying in Flagstaff, he met Lorraine Bellwood, whom he married in 1950. After graduating and a short stint as an industrial arts teacher in St. Johns, Ariz., he began a teaching and coaching career in Kingman in 1953.
Nine years as an assistant and head coach in football and track at Mohave County Union High School culminated in a Northwest Conference football championship and an Arizona Coach of the Year nomination in 1961. As an industrial arts and mechanical drawing teacher, Mr. Orr inspired many a student to pursue careers in related fields.
He left the teaching profession and went into business, starting Orr Construction, Inc., a general contracting firm, in 1962. Between 1962 and his retirement in 1998, Orr Construction, Inc., built hundreds of homes and some 50 commercial buildings in the area.
Chuck was a civic-minded, active member of the community. He was a member of the Kingman Elks and Rotary Club, a director of the Chamber of Commerce, Country Club, and Mohave County Contractors Association, and served on the City Council from 1990 to 1994 as well as the Northern Arizona University Foundation board of directors.
He was also a master bridge player and lifelong sports fan who was not to be disturbed when watching a football game. In addition to coaching high school, he sponsored, coached and played on a number of local softball teams and was an avid tennis player.
He is survived by a brother, Newton Orr of Lacey, Wash.; sons, K.C. and Toby Orr of Kingman; a daughter, Jeanne Orr Mathiesen of Kansas City, Mo.; and six grandchildren: Marcy, Randy, Bobby, Jenny, Tony and Michael. Memorial donations can be made to the Boy Scouts of America or to the Mohave Museum Mining Exhibit.
A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 26, at St. Johns United Methodist Church, Kingman.
Carlos Andrew Bufano
Carlos Andrew Bufano, 72, of Kingman died Wednesday, May 17, 2006, at Kingman Regional Medical Center. He was born Feb. 4, 1934, in Los Angeles. He grew up in Alhambra, Calif., and went to Alhambra High School. He moved to Kingman 14 years ago from West Covina, Calif. He was in the grocery business for 37 years and ran Hualapai Quik Stop for 10. He was active in the Prospectors Club and was a baseball coach for many years for all his sons. Carlos was in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1954.
We lost our beloved husband, father and friend to a battle with cancer. He passed away peacefully on May 17 with all his loved ones by his side. He was loved by many family and friends. We will always have a beautiful memory of our Carlos Bufano. He is survived by his wife, Joanne Bufano of Kingman; four sons, William Bufano of Navarre, Fla., Andrew Bufano of Kingman, Robert Bufano of Kingman, and Carlo Bufano of Portland, Maine; one daughter, Anna Bufano of Kingman, eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation and burial will be at Covina Hills Forest Lawn Mortuary, Covina, Calif. Arrangements in Kingman are being handled by Sutton Memorial Funeral Home.
Judy Horner
Judy Horner, 62, of Kingman passed away May 19, 2006. She was born Aug. 6, 1943, in Ipswich, S.D., to Arnold and Mary Kienow.
She is survived by her children: Michelle Sahawneh, Michael Horner, Melissa Lemus; siblings, Vicki DuBraw, Peggy, Dale, Dennis, Butch and Larry Kienow; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Visitation will be Tuesday, May 23, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Thompson's Valley West Funeral Chapel in Goodyear, with Mass at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 24, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Avondale, with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Avondale.
Carol Kinsey Spears
Carol Kinsey Spears died Saturday, May 20, in Kingman. She was 68.
Mrs. Spears was born Nov. 14, 1937, in Mesa to Charles and Clara Kinsey. Within weeks she moved to Chloride, where she lived throughout her school years. She graduated from Mohave County Union High School in 1956. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Mrs. Spears was married to Wilbern Spears in 1958. She is survived by one son, Nephi Spears of Richfield, Utah; three daughters, Telitha Scofield and Mary Ellen Spears of Kingman, and Clara Elizabeth Roos of Layton, Utah; one sister, Florence Bunker of Delta, Utah; and 10 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 25, at the LDS church on Rutherford. Burial will be in the Chloride Cemetery.
Stephen W. Simpson Sr.
Stephen W. Simpson Sr., of Kingman passed away Friday, May 19, 2006, at his home in Kingman. He was born July 29, 1921, in Chicago.
He came to Mohave County from Chicago.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army as an M.P. and interpreter in the Persian Gulf.
After his discharge, he worked for 19 years in the trucking business, Simpson Motor Service, in Chicago. After moving to Kingman, he served two years in the Kingman Police Department, then started his own business, Bike City, which he ran for 18 years.
Stephen is survived by his wife, Lorraine Simpson of Kingman; his son, Stephen W. Simpson Jr., also of Kingman; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
There will be a graveside service at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 24, at Mountain View Cemetery. Sutton Memorial Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
John Samuel Davidson
John Samuel Davidson, 62, of Golden Valley died Sunday, May 21, 2006, in Golden Valley. He was born Nov. 7, 1943, in Burns, Ore.

Hientze O. Abdelaziz
On Friday, June 18, 2010, Hientze O. Abdelaziz went to join his Heavenly Father. He was born in Emporia, Va., on Jan. 31, 1937, to Israel and Tora Abdelaziz. He was raised in Buffalo, N.Y., moved to Los Angeles and for over 20 years lived in Kingman. He was the fifth of seven children, had several nieces and nephews and many friends.
He was very ambitious and loved to run his own businesses, one being Pro-Tech here in Kingman. He will be remembered for his generosity and kindness. He was warm, friendly and affectionate, and everyone who knew him loved him. He loved life and he loved to make people smile with his many jokes!
Heaven has gained a true gentleman. He is and will always be our hero. He showed everyone the true meaning of love. He will truly be missed and he has now gone home to be our guardian angel.
Heintze is survived by his wife, Irene Abdelaziz; daughters, Saadia J. Abdelaziz of Las Vegas and Petra (Abdelaziz) Rhone of Foresthill, Calif.; son-in-law, Dwayne Rhone of Foresthill; grandson, Colton Rhone of Foresthill; special niece, Melba Abdelaziz-Parke of Fresno, Calif.; brothers, John Abdelaziz of Vista, Calif., Melchizedek Abdelaziz and Israel Abdelaziz, both of Fresno; sisters, Anna Nelson and Evelyn Heath, both of Fresno, and Irene Clark of Buffalo; and stepchildren, James and Holly.
His memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 15, at Christian Fellowship, 1708 North Cedar, Fresno, CA 93703.

Azel 'Bill' Ames
Azel S. Ames, better known to family and friends as Bill, passed away Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at the Kingman Regional Medical Center at the age of 81 years, just one month short of his 82nd birthday. Born Aug. 8, 1928, in Anita, Iowa, Bill came to Kingman in 1999.
For most of his working life, Bill worked in the publishing industry, including positions of art director, typesetter, magazine editor, publisher and freelance writer. He was a licensed Amateur Radio Operator since 1953 (call sign K6SLN), and was an avid boat racer, competing in the Outboard World Championships at Lake Havasu in 1967 and 1969.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert F. Ames, and is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marylyn; his children, Pamela Mickelson and Lawrence Ames; his grandchildren, Michele Walker, Christopher Mickelson, Aaron Ames, Lauren Ames and Hillary Ames; and great-grandchildren, Katelyn Walker and Natalie Walker.
No memorial services will be held.
Cindy Oaks
Cindy Oaks "Boo," 29 years old, of Las Vegas passed from this life to the next on Friday, Aug. 12, 2010. Her death was unexpected but peaceful at home with her Jeremy. Cindy was born in Las Vegas to Kimberly Oaks-Coal and Brad Oaks. She was the beloved sister to Lisa (Steve) Martin, Megan Oaks, Dillon Oaks, Robert M. Cole, Jessica Cole and Joseph Cole. She was also a loved daughter through marriage to Lisa Marie Oaks and Robert C. Cole.
Cindy started school in Kingman where she attended Hualapai Elementary School. When she was 16 she moved back to Las Vegas to be closer to her father. Cindy loved Las Vegas and made her career of the Las Vegas nightlife where she had worked for the last five years at the Encore and Wynn Casinos. Previously she had worked at the Hard Rock Hotel. Cindy always had a smile for everyone she came in contact with.
Cindy was always giving to others and made it a point to provide for a family in need each year participating in and encouraging others to participate in the Angel Tree program. She had been looking forward to starting a family of her own after years of enjoying and participating in the lives of her nieces and nephews, Myranda, Steven, Dominic, Brooklyn and Rylan.
Cindy's sudden death leaves so many of us at a loss of what to do next. She would want us to go out and help others. Be kinder than you need to be. Go out of your way to meet that need for someone else and let that be your tribute to her life that was cut short too soon. She is now in God's hands.
Services will be held Friday, Aug. 20, at the Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., Las Vegas. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. with services beginning at 2 p.m.

Curtis Ostermeier
Our beloved father, grandfather and friend went to the loving arms of God on Friday, Aug. 20, 2010. He was born May 13, 1917, in Strasburg, Ill.
Curtis lived in and around Strasburg until 1943 when he moved out to Phoenix. He worked as a mechanic in Phoenix and the surrounding area until 1951 when he went to work for Ford Motor Company. From 1952 to mid-1953, he bought into the Ford dealership in Wickenburg. He still worked for Ford in Phoenix and would drive back and forth from Wickenburg to Phoenix Monday through Friday.
In 1954, Ford decided to build a proving ground in Yucca. He sold his interest in the dealership in Wickenburg and moved his family to Kingman. He worked for Ford at the proving ground until his retirement in 1980.
Dad was one of the first investors in the Mohave Federal Credit Union. He also was one of the initial members in the first Kiwanis Club to form in Kingman. He was very proud to be a Kiwanian and received his lifetime membership in 1993.
Curtis is survived by his brother, Wilmer (Cathy) Ostermeier of Surprise; his son, David of Kingman; daughter, Sharon (Chuck) Mogavero of Kingman; six grandchildren, Howard (Christy) Ostermeier of Kingman, Trisha Ostermeier of Seattle, Deanna Hughes of Alaska, and Jenna and Joseph Mogavero of Kingman. Curtis has three great-grandchildren, Kylie and Codi Ostermeier of Kingman and Khloe May Duffy of Kingman. Curtis was preceded in death by his mother and father, Charles and Anna Ostermeier, and his beloved wife of 66 years, Beulah Ostermeier.
There will be a memorial service and life celebration at 2 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 6, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 3958 N. Bank St., Kingman.
We love and will miss you dearly, Papa, and we know you will be looking over us until we meet again.

Deborah H. Smith
Deborah H. Smith, 62, of Kingman died at home on Thursday, Aug. 26, 2010, after a courageous battle of four years with cancer. She was at peace, with family at her side.
Debbi was a Kingman resident of 14 years, was very active within the community, and owner of Kingman "Curves" and "Curves Plaza." Debbi was born in Spencer, Iowa, raised in Ames, Iowa, and Colby, Kansas. She was a graduate of Colby Community High School in 1966 and a graduate of Iowa State University in 1969.
Deborah is survived by her husband of seven years, Patrick Wagner; two sons, Jerremie Smith of Denver and Ryan Smith of Kingman; her mother, Beverly Petersen of Colby; sister, Sharon Woofter; and three brothers, Michael Hedrick, and Scott and Curt Petersen. She was preceded in death by her father, Vince Hedrick, and her first husband, John Smith.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 2, at Grace Lutheran Church, 2101 Harrison St., Kingman.

Loyce Blaine Bass
Loyce Blaine Bass, "Lou" to friends and family, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010. He was in the arms of his wife, at home, at peace with the world. He was a true friend to those who knew him.
Born in Asheville, N.C., on Dec. 10, 1929, he served in the Army in the late 1940s. He retired from Sony Corporation in San Diego County as their chief of Corporate Security.
He was an outdoorsman, loving to fish and hunt, never wasting what he caught or hunted, sharing with others. He was proud of his Cherokee/Scots heritage and his family having been so dear to each other, surviving the Great Depression together. He carried those lessons learned all through his life.
He is survived by his wife, Wendy Dunlap; children-in-heart, Robin Gordon (Wellman Pike) of Kingman, Sierra Lindsay of Cedar City, Utah, Lewis Chick (Jennifer) of Redding, Calif.; grandchildren, Shane Gordon of Phoenix, Krystal Gordon (Billy Smith) of Kingman, Cyndie (Mike) Leach of St. George, Utah, Josh Silviera of San Luis Obispo, Calif., Robert and Will Lindsay, Nick, Kiiana and Kasen Chuck of Redding, Calif.; sisters, Barbara (Tom) Keaton and Sarah Patterson in Virginia; his nephew, Jack Bass Jr. of Virginia Beach was of special comfort to him as the link to his loved relations in the South; and his "great-grands" Brenden, Caitlyn and Annabella Leach, Kinsley Gordon and Dereck Smith gave him renewed faith in the future. He held his church family, neighbors on Van Marter Drive, ARC staff, medical providers and friends at the Del Webb Wellness and Rehab Center in high regard, knowing they made his final years rich in love and laughter. The Rehab staff gave him additional years of mobility and dignity, which his family so much appreciated. KRMC Hospice gave the family direction and peace in his final hours.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church.
A member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church, 4045 N. Van Nuys Road, Kingman, AZ 86409-2544, he asked that donations in his memory be directed to them for their parking lot paving project. He would appreciate his family and friends doing a special kindness to a stranger in his memory. He did that on a regular basis and will be greatly missed.
