DORIS M. HAUGLAND
DORIS M. HAUGLAND of Clark, S.D., and a winter visitor to Green Valley for 16 years, passed away on Nov. 15, 2010.
She is survived by her husband David; son Dan Haugland; daughter Denise Perry; two granddaughters: Abby Perry and Madison Haugland; and one brother Jerry Hussong.
Friends and family are invited to the viewing today, Nov. 17, at Green Valley Mortuary from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.
Services will be held in Clark, S.D.
ANTHONY JAMES GASTELUM
ANTHONY JAMES GASTELUM, of Tumacacori, was born Sept. 16, 1958, and left us on Nov. 5, 2010.
He graduated from Sahuarita High School in 1977 and worked at Raytheon for 23 years.
He will be deeply missed by his wife Linda; mother Sylvia; father James (Joann); stepchildren Larry and James; daughter Rebecca Velasquez; and sisters Sandy Gastelum and Therese (Jon) Vayre. He is also survived by nephew William; nieces Zelinda, Jamie and Cheyenne; and many close family members.
In keeping with his wishes, a funeral Mass will be held at 12 p.m. on Nov. 12, at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in Green Valley.
All his rowdy friends, please join us after Mass at the Gastelum Ranch in Tumacacori for a celebration of Tony’s life.
As Tony would say, “I did not know that!”
We will miss you, Tony. You are the one and only.

Stranger to No One, Friend To Many
Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Others stay awhile, make footprints on our hearts and we are never, ever the same. Those people who were lucky enough to have known Jim O’Shields would no doubt relate these words to a man who never met a stranger.
Always quick with a smile, a handshake or a hug, James F O’Shields, 70, of Green Valley, passed away peacefully Oct. 29, 2010, at the Odyssey Hospice in Tucson. Dee, his wife of 21 years, and both his son and daughter were at his side.
Born in Anniston, Ala., Jim was educated at the Hackley School in Tarrytown, N.Y., the University of Pennsylvania and the Wharton School of Business. A member of the Delta PSI, St. Anthony Fraternity, Jim spent much of his work career in broadcast sales, notably for WKRC-TV in Cincinnati, Ohio. Jim and Dee were active Realtors in Green Valley since moving here in 1990 from Boca Raton, Fla..
Jim is survived by his wife Dee; his daughter Lisa, her husband Jeffrey and their sons Matthew and Andrew of Boca Raton, Fla.; his son Patrick, his wife Leigh and their daughters Caitlin, Murphy and Payton of Spartanburg, S.C.; and by his sisters Patricia Rutherfurd and Marcia Forman of Palm Beach, Fla.
Those who knew Jim, knew he had a mind of his own and often voiced it. Whether people agreed with him or not, his twinkling eyes and warm smile softened even the staunchest objector, and with a pat on the back often quickly made them into friends.
Jim was a passionate golfer. While he was known for his colorful use of the English language, and hitting more than a few balls into the water, he was lucky enough to have had six holes-in-one in a golf career that spanned many years. While golf was a passion, it was not just about the game, but more about the people he spent playing the game.
Jim will be remembered and toasted at a Celebration of Life on a date yet to be determined.

BETTY HAMILTON CROMMELIN
July 10, 1927 – Nov. 9, 2010
Once in a Blue Moon
- A rarity.
Such was Betty H. Crommelin, 83, who lived an extraordinary life filled with love, laughter and the adoration of her family and friends. Betty passed away peacefully in her home and was reunited with her loving husband and the Lord on Nov. 9, 2010, in Green Valley.
Born in Los Angeles, Calif., Betty attended Marlboro School for Girls and later was educated at Iowa Wesleyan and the National College of Education in Evanston, Ill.
At 23, she moved to Honoka’a, Hawaii and pursued a career in teaching only to return a year later to continue to teach elementary school in Apple Valley, Calif.
Then, after having met her husband George on a blind date on a New Year’s Eve, the two joined in matrimony in 1952, and remained happily married for 54 years.
Betty’s love for animals, nature and helping others had led her to be an avid volunteer and docent at the J. Paul Getty Museum, the Los Angeles Zoo and the Santa Maria Medical Center, all in California, and at the Botanical Gardens in Kailua, Kona, Hawaii.
A world traveler at heart, Betty visited many European countries, motored through the grasslands of New Zealand, trekked the Himalayas with Sherpas in Nepal, joined a safari in Africa and cruised the Panama Canal to tour South America.
In addition to Betty’s travels, our ever-active and engaged mother enjoyed Sierra Club hiking, tennis with her girlfriends leading to exciting tournaments, playing Bridge with George and friends, planting flowers – lots of pansies – in her garden, swimming in many beautiful waters and oceans (warm only, please) and many calming moments sipping her hot morning coffee and delving into a great novel while basking in the heated summer sun.
Betty is survived by her three daughter Susan, Kathy and Julie; her son Peter; Julie’s husband John and their two sons Johnny and Michael; Peter’s wife Brasilia and their children Amanda and Sean. Also surviving are Betty’s sister Ann, her husband John and their children Doug and Liz.
Betty, in her infinitely genuine, kind and gentle ways, will be remembered and celebrated by her family at 11 a.m. on Nov. 14 at Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Tucson.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Assoc. or to The Animal League of Green Valley.
VERNON F. SELWAY
VERNON F. SELWAY, 86, of Green Valley, passed away Nov. 11, 2010.
He is survived by his children Richard Selway and Bobbie Watts; their mother Alice Selway; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
ROBERT “BOB” MOELHMAN
ROBERT “BOB” MOELHMAN passed away Sunday, Nov. 14, 2010.
He was born April 11, 1938, to Francis Moelhman and Mae Cupp in Hammond, Ind.
He was the father of three: Sandra Holeman, Craig Moelhman and Susan Ward; grandfather of seven: Heather, Jessica, Jack, Neal, Megan, Marilyn and Madison; great-grandfather of two precious girls Brooklyn and Aubrey.
Bob was a veteran of the 10th Division and was a die-hard Chicago Bears fan.
Memorial services will be held in his home state of Indiana.

MARY NEWTON
MARY NEWTON, 84, of Green Valley, passed away after a brief illness on Oct. 28, 2010, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Tucson.
Mary was born March 7, 1926, in Detroit, Mich. to Kazimietz and Antouna Pochowicz. She is survived by her husband Gerald E. Newton; daughters Jeanette (Gary) Sellers of Cedar Grove, Tenn. and Judith Reilly of Algonac, Mich.; grandchildren Suzanne and Danielle Sellers and Aaron and Monica Reilly; sisters Valeria Chapman of Clay, Mich., Ann Bedsworth of Lynchburg, Va. and Stella Russell of Marysville, Mich.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters Joan Davis and Helen Sabatene.
She and Gerald were united in marriage on Feb. 6, 1965. They moved to Green Valley from New Baltimore, Mich. in 1987. In her early years, Mary was employed in child care and later became a homemaker.
In Green Valley, Mary was active in the Michigan Club and the Parkinson’s Exercise Group along with her husband, Gerald. She and Gerald had recently moved to the Del Coronado Apts. in Green Valley.
A Memorial Service led by Rev. John Stieve and Ron Kasten of Lutheran Church of the Risen Savior will be held on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Del Coronado Apts. 1919 N. La Cañada Dr. in Green Valley.
JAMES “JIM” RILEY
JAMES “JIM” RILEY, born in 1962 in Berwyn, Ill., died in his home in Green Valley on Oct. 19, 2010.
Jim grew up in Bensenville, Ill. and lived the majority of his life in the Chicago suburbs. After serving as a Marine from 1980 to 1982, he returned to the Chicago area to a career in sales, including nine years with Flow Products, while also teaching at Harper Community College. He eventually opened up his own car dealership.
In 1999, Jim moved to Green Valley where his father and other close relatives lived and attended Arizona Institute of Business and Technology earning an Associates Degree with a 4.0 G.P.A. When his father’s health started to deteriorate, Jim was by his side caring for him. It was during this time that he realized he had a gift, and after his father passed, he decided to go back to school.
In 2008, he received his Nursing Assistant Certificate with exceptional grades and a Dean’s list member. After graduating, he quickly found a job with an in-home care company and found his true calling. His patients loved him and always requested that he be the one that returned to care for them.
Jim was very close to his family, and his cousins were more like brothers and sisters. He was always the life of the party with a quick wit, great sense of humor and an unforgettable laugh. To think of Jim is to think of his laugh – he will be missed dearly.
He is survived by his daughters Stephanie Riley and Anjelica Koelsch; mother Dolores Riley; sister Sharon Bejarano; nephew Daniel Bejarano; aunts and uncles Donna Anderson, Beverly and Ronald Iwanski, Joan Gambotz, Pat Clark, Bob and Mary Riley and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father Frank “Jim” Riley and his uncle Ed Anderson, both of Green Valley.
Services will be held Nov. 20, 2010 at 12 p.m. at St. John Church of Christ in Naperville, Ill.
GERARD PHILIP SMITH SR.
GERARD PHILIP SMITH SR. was born in the Bronx, N.Y. on Dec. 13, 1917, and died after a lengthy stay at Casa Blanca Eldercare in Sahuarita on Oct. 19, 2010.
Gerry attended Mount St. Michael’s Academy in the Bronx and lived the first half of his life in Cliffside, N.J. and the Pt. Pleasant, N.J. vicinity where he loved fishing and boating.
married to Mary Dobson for 25 years, the couple had two children: Kathleen Smith Hartzell, who died in 1984, and Gerard Philip Smith Jr. While in New Jersey, Gerry was both a small business owner and a plant manager for several flooring products manufacturers.
After his divorce, Gerry moved West to work, when he met and married Marilyn Eby and began another phase of his life as stepdad to four young children. He and Marilyn were married 41 years and lived not only in Fullerton, Calif. but also McCall, Idaho and Green Valley.
Gerry particularly enjoyed his time spent with church activities including being chairman of the Cursillo secretariat for the Diocese of Los Angeles, and also backpacking in the Sierra for several years with Dale and David’s Boy Scout troop.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn; son Gerard Philip SmithJr. of Dallas, Texas; granddaughters Ashleigh Smith Breunig, also of Dallas, and Alyssa Kay Smith of Washington; as well as stepchildren Ellen Dorsher of Alpharetta, Ga., Laurel Meadows of Boise, Idaho, Dale Eby of Brea, Calif. and David Eby of Macon, Ga.
A memorial service will be held Monday, Dec. 13, the 93rd anniversary of Gerry’s birth, at St. Francis-in-the-Valley Episcopal Church in Green Valley at 11 a.m.

MARY LOUISE BLOMSTRAND
It was a starry night and a rosy morn, appropriate passages for beloved artist, wife, mother, MARY LOUISE BLOMSTRAND, as she passed from this life early on Nov. 11, 2010.
She is survived by her second husband Col. Robert N. Blomstrand; her daughters Kathlyn M. Edds, and her husband David R. Edds, and Nancy Bruno; and Mary’s stepson N. Andrew Blomstrand and wife Vicki Blomstrand.
Mary was born Sept. 4, 1928, to Cecil and Edna Morgan and grew up in La Junta, Colo. She married Lloyd N. Hanson in 1946. They lived in Colorado until 1983, when they moved to Green Valley. Lloyd Hanson died in 1995. Mary married Col. Robert N. Blomstrand in September of 1999 and enjoyed 11 wonderful years with him.
Mary was a commercial and fine artist, loved and inspired by her peers. Art was her passion and her work has been shown, sold and treasured all over Colorado and Southern Arizona.
Mary was very present and content with her life, noticed the beauty that surrounded her, and felt grateful for every day she lived in Green Valley.
She is also survived by her grandchildren: Ben Edds and Cassandra Edds, Duane Bruno, and Sarah Blomstrand and Emily Blomstrand.
She will be interred at Green Valley Mortuary & Memorial Garden. A memorial service for family and friends is in the planning.

ANNE MARIE “RANDI” (LIBRETTI) JOHNSON
ANNE MARIE “RANDI” (LIBRETTI) JOHNSON, 72, died Nov. 12, 2010.
She was the loving mother of Wendy (Steve) Teresi, Mark (Janet) Johnson and Lori (Brad) Hahn; grandmother of Tod (Melanie) Teresi, Chad (Jennifer) Teresi, Sam Teresi, Lance Johnson, Joelyn Johnson and Michael (Shannon) Foss; great-grandmother to Hailey, Makayla, Karlee and Carson.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, Dec. 5, 2010, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the East Center, 7 S. Abrego Dr., Green Valley.
