Robert K. Hoderfield
Robert K. Hoderfield of Fountain Hills died Sunday, April 23, 2006, at the Eckstein Center in Scottsdale. He was 87.
He was born Sept. 2, 1918 in War eagle, W.Va. and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was owner and manager of motels and hotels and worked for Bashas’ for 12 years.
Mr. Hoderfield is survived by his wife Hilda Hoderfield of Fountain Hills; a son, Robert J. Hoderfield of Newalk, Ohio; two daughters, Carol Shaw of Reynoldsburg, Ohio and Francelle Blankenship of Bremen, Ga.; a step-daughter, Candace Robinson of Phoenix; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services are pending.
Sheila Redington
Sheila Redington, age 44, of 1453 W. Losey St. Galesburg, Ill., died at 7:12 a.m. on Sunday April 23, 2006 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, Ill.
She was born on Sept. 30, 1961 in Galesburg, the daughter of Hugh and Mary Urich Barnes. She married Tim Redington on May 24, 1980 in Galesburg.
Surviving are her husband Tim of Galesburg; two sons: Philip and Chandler both at home; two daughters, Shannon and Shavonne both at home. Her father and step mother Hugh and Betty Barnes of Galesburg; two brothers: Bill Barnes of Galesburg, and Rick Barnes of Rockford; three sisters: Carol McDorman of Largo, Fla., Debbie (Robin) Stansell of Fountain Hills, Ariz., and Sandy Reed of Rockford. She is also survived by 22 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother Mary in 2001.
Sheila graduated from Galesburg High School in 1979 and was a certified teacher’s aid. She was a pre-school teacher at Costa Catholic School and was the GHS cheerleading coach. Sheila was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and its Ladies of Mary.
She was a past Girl Scout leader, past soccer coach at the YMCA, and past athletic director for Costa grade school. She was also her neighborhood watch block captain and room mother for Costa first grade.
Sheila ran the Carl Sandburg cheerleading camp in the summer with her daughter Shannon. She was also the Vice President of C.C.A.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday April 27, 2006 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church with the Rev. Ernest Pizzamiglio officiating.
Burial will be in St. Joseph’s cemetery, Galesburg, Ill. Memorials may be made to Sheila Redington medical expenses fund or to the Sheila Redington Costa Pre-School scholarship fund.
Leona Brzezicki-Brader
Leona J. Brzezicki-Brader, 84, of Fountain Hills died June 4, 2006.
Born Feb. 16, 1922 in Detroit, Mich., she worked as an office clerk and was an accountant for six years at Winkleman’s in Michigan.
She was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary and belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary, Daughters of Isabella and Church of the Ascension in Fountain Hills.
She was preceded in death by Richard H. Brader and Edward T. Brzezicki.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Celeste Waldie-Gall (James) of Fountain Hills; her brother, Norman Koss of Fountain Hills; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Monday, June 12, at 10 a.m. at Church of the Ascension, 12615 N. Fountain Hills Blvd.
Paul Aldrich King
Paul Aldrich King, devoted husband, loving father and blessed grandfather, passed away after his long and courageous battle with cancer on Friday, June 2, 2006.
Paul was born on January 14, 1943 in Los Angeles, California to Robert and Louise King. His youth was spent in El Segundo, California.
From an early age he enjoyed the ocean, the beach and the sun. At age 16 his best friend introduced him to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and he was soon baptized.
He joined the Navy just prior to graduating from high school and couldn’t imagine doing anything more important than serving God and his country.
He was a Group Leader for the Church on the Bon Hom Richard during his assignment there.
He met and married Joan Ruth Williams and was blessed with three boys, Robert, Aaron and Jason.
The new growing family moved to Washington State where Paul worked as well as served in the Army National Guard, and was blessed with two daughters Sarah and Deborah.
He became a paramedic. The family then moved to Utah where Paul worked for the University of Utah Hospital emergency room and Utah State Prison clinic.
But Paul had a passion for owning and operating his own business and his entrepreneurial personality allowed him to embark on many different adventures – not just working to live but living to work.
After moving to Northern California, Paul married the love of his life Colleen Welch in December, 1990, and together they have strengthened their troops with eight children combined and 20 amazing and wonderful grandchildren.
They have made their home in Fountain Hills for eight years, and enjoyed owning and operating Kings AZ Korn and more recently traveling to visit all of the kids and grandkids.
Paul loved planning trips, and felt overwhelmed with emotions when they were able to travel to Europe and see the places where his ancestors once lived.
His passion for life and living kept him with us. The dozens of trips he planned for all of the kids to get together made it that much more important for him to stay with us just "one more day".
Paul was an avid photographer, master debater and could make anyone smile in time of need.
A big man with a big heart, he will forever remain in the memories of all whose lives he touched.
Paul is survived by his wonderful wife and companion Colleen, children Robert King; Aaron (Cezanne) King; Jason King; Sarah Barron and Deborah (Brian Duffany) Schuetz; Russell (Donna) Welch, David (Martha) Welch and Karen (Kirt) Salmon.
Grandkids Robert Marley, Terry Alago, Erica Brittney, Steven Rylyle, Michael Kirt, Cameron Carl, Emily Michal, Parker Williams, Haley Dawn, Maryah Lynn, Zachary Ryan, Coltrane Aldrich, Chandler Travis, India Jade, Matthew David, Alec Joshua, Joshua John, Trinity Llyssa, Ellany Rain and Wren Wraith.
Mother-in-law June Schaefer, and many other extended family members and close friends.
A tribute to his life will take place on Saturday, June 10, 2006 at 1 p.m. at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Fountain Hills with a visitation prior to services starting at 11 a.m.
Paul will be laid to rest on Monday, June 12, 2006 at Woodlawn cemetery in Lacey, Wash.

Henry D. Booher
Henry D. Booher died May 20, 2006 following a brave battle with cancer.
He was a loving husband and father born in Bristol, Tenn. on July 31, 1908, grew up in Montana and went to Moorhead State College in Minnesota. He taught math, science and was athletic director and coach at Breckenridge High School in Minnesota.
He received a masters degree in physical education and health from the University of Iowa. He was athletic director and coach at Glen Ellyn High School, Illinois.
He entered the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942, and retired from the Air Force as a Lt. Colonel after 30 years.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Hazel; his daughter Geri Horsma and husband David Horsma; and son Jim and his wife Dede; three granddaughters, Sarah Jane Booher, Jennifer Horsma and Amy Horsma Moore and husband Mike Moore and daughter Haley Moore; and one grandson, David Booher.
Mr. Booher was of the Lutheran faith. His ashes will be taken to Fairfield, Calif. where he has many relatives and friends and will be placed in a veterans cemetery.
His passing left a void in all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Lynnis Mae Elam
Lynnis "Lynn" Mae Elam, 58, of Fountain Hills died Monday, May 22, 2006 at Fountain View Manor.
Lynn was born June 16, 1947 to Marie and Francis S. Dempsey in Chicago, Ill.
She shared a wonderful childhood with her younger brother, Russ Dempsey. Lynn attended Main East High School in Park Ridge, Ill. Her friendly, outgoing nature led to her involvement in many school activities, and among her favorites were the Pep Club and the school paper.
She graduated from Main East High in 1965 and she continued her education at Chicago City College at the Loop Campus in Chicago. Lynn remained involved in school and in 1966 was initiated into the Phi Theta Kappa Fraternity. Lynn graduated from college in 1967 with an associate in arts degree.
After graduating from college Lynn married her high school sweetheart, Robert J. Elam, in 1968.
Lynn worked as an executive assistant to the chief financial officer of Continental Grain Company from 1965 until 1979, when she had her first child, Kelly Lynne. In 1982 she had her second child, Ryan Matthew, and in 1983 her family moved from Naperville, Ill. to Medfield, Mass., where she resided for 15 years before moving to Glastonbury, Conn.
Lynn devoted herself to her two children and became a scout leader for her son’s group. Lynn also managed to fit in several part-time jobs around her children’s school schedule so that she would never miss any of her children’s sports or school events. Lynn lived in Connecticut for seven years before moving to Fountain Hills in 2005.
For 20 years Lynn bravely battled with Multiple Sclerosis without complaint before succumbing to the illness in 2006.
Lynn leaves behind her husband, Robert, daughter Kelly, son Ryan, brother Russ Dempsey, sister-in-law Ann Karen Dempsey, and nieces Erin and Lauren Dempsey, as well as brother-in-law Jim Elam, sister-in-law Ann Elam, niece Lisa Elam Randall and nephew Richard Elam.
Lynn was a beautiful woman both inside and out, and was a loving wife, sister, mother and friend. Lynn will be greatly missed, but will continue to live on forever in our hearts and memories.
Wilber (Bill) Huston
Bill Huston, 93, died Thursday, May 25, 2006 at his home at Fountain View Village. He was an open minded, intelligent, loving man and will be missed greatly by all who knew him.
Bill was born in Detroit, Mich. on Oct. 2, 1912. He was the son of a clergyman so he moved to several states before settling in Seattle, Wash. There he graduated from Lakeside School at the age of 16.
At that time Thomas Edison held a contest to find the brightest boy in America. Bill represented the state of Washington and won the contest. Edison paid his way to M.I.T. in Boston where he graduated with a degree in physics in 1933.
Bill then worked for Thomas Edison’s son, Theodore, for four years before leaving to become an active volunteer in the Moral Re-Armament movement. He served in the Army Air Corps and then became employed by the N.A.C.A., which is now NASA. He had a 30-year career in the space program working with weather satellites.
Bill married Dorothy Beadle in 1946 and they had six children together. Bill is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, and son James. He leaves behind sons, Herbert, David and Thomas; and daughters, Patti (Thorpe) and Kathy (Grant) of Fountain Hills. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Bill was an avid traveler and explored all seven continents. He also enjoyed photography, astronomy, computers, Sherlock Holmes and visiting with family and friends.
A memorial service will be held in Maryland on June 10. The Grant family invites friends to celebrate Bill’s life at their home on Monday, June 5, from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Sophie Nowakowski
Sophie Nowakowski departed this world on May 26, 2006, at the age of 91.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt and kind friend.
With a twinkle in her eye, she always had a ready smile and quick retort.
She was born in Bloomfield, N.J., spent her childhood in Poland, and returned to the U.S. as a teenager.
She is survived by her daughter, Chris (Mike) Dacey of Fountain Hills; grandson, Dr. Mark (Sarah) Dacey of Coppell, Texas; two sisters, Christina Starska and Martha Mazurek of Poland; niece, Annette (Stanley) Burzynski of Fountain Hills; nephews, Richard, Robert, and John Gralinksi, of New Jersey, New York, and Texas, respectively, Leonard and Richard Moravek of New Jersey and Florida; two nieces and one nephew in Poland; and one nephew in Germany.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry, her four brothers and three sisters.

Joel Saar
Joel E. Saar, 56, of Fountain Hills died May 24, 2006.
Born Dec. 10, 1949 in Elgin, Ill., he was a painter and interior decorate. A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Saar also was a member of Joy Christian Community Church in Fountain Hills.
Survivors include his mother, Delores Saar of Woodstock, Ill.; wife, Diane Saar of Fountain Hills; daughters, Laura Lee Burgess (Lane) of Sacramento, Calif., Jennifer Janca (John) of Wonder Lake, Ill. and Michelle Walters (Jacob) of Phoenix; brothers, Michael (Dayle) of Yorkville, Ill. and Craig (Marty) of Granville, Ohio; a sister, Druinda Santos (Gary) of McHenry, Ill.; and three grandchildren, Ashley Koenen and Nicholas and Nathan Burgess.
He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene, and grandson, Tyler Koenen.
A memorial service was held May 26 at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary.

Eugene Woolhiser
Eugene A. Woolhiser of Fountain Hills passed away on May 28, 2006.
He was born on March 31, 1932, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was married for 53 years to Cathleen "Kay" Ross (Woolhiser).
He participated in football and wrestling in both high school and college, enjoyed playing golf and working on golf courses during retirement. He was an owner and salesman in the furniture business.
He is survived by his wife Kay, Fountain Hills; son, Ross Woolhiser, Broomfield, Colo.; daughter, Susan Woolhiser-Everitt (Mitchell Everitt), Scottsdale; brother, Cliff Woolhiser, Green Valley; and three grandchildren, Rayn Woolhiser, Boulder, Colo., Stephani Woolhiser, Lafayette, Colo. and Morgan Everitt, Scottsdale.
Private family services will be held at home.
John Allyn
John Ronald Allyn was born Jan. 22, 1920 to Frank Allyn and Margaret Bulford in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
John had a sister, Irene; brothers, Ralph, Lester and Albert; and is survived by his brother, Harmon.
The family moved to Calumet City, Ill. near Chicago in 1924. They later moved to a farm in Dowagiac, Mich.
John joined the U.S. Navy in 1942 serving through the duration of World War II as an aviation metalsmith.
Upon separating from the Navy, John moved to Chicago finding work as a sheet metal mechanic. He met his future wife, Wilma Gene Patchett, while roller skating at the White City Roller rink. They were married March 23, 1947.
John and Gene, with the help of his brothers and other family, built their home in Palos Heights, Ill. They lived there until 1986 when they retired in Fountain Hills.
While in Chicago, John was Master of the Level Lodge in 1958 and joined the Medinah Shrine where he served as head of its Directors Staff for 15 years.
In 1972 he also helped organize and was later president of the Southwest Suburban Shrine Club. John joined the Fountain Hills Masonic Square Club later serving as its president. He joined the Directors Staff of El Zaribah Shrine in 1986 in Phoenix, riding mini-bikes and driving cars in parades.
John had a very strong sense of family and took great pride in raising his son and daughter. While retired he enjoyed golf, bridge, dancing and being an all-round handy man for any of his friends needing help.
He was a charter member of The Fountains, a United Methodist Church. He also was a member of The Club in Fountain Hills, where he enjoyed playing poker with his very good friends.
Some of his fondest memories were of the many wonderful friendships enjoyed along his journey. John and Gene enjoyed 59 years of happiness and great times together.
He is survived by his wife Gene of Fountain Hills; his son, William Allyn of Seattle, Wash.; his daughter, Valerie Bearce of San Antonio, Texas; and his grandchildren, Emily, Brandon, Lindsay and Desiree.
A memorial service was held on Friday, April 28, at The Fountains, a United Methodist Church.
In lieu of sending flowers the family requests consideration of a donation to the Shrine Hospital for Children in John’s name.
