Anita Pierotti Brown
Anita Pierotti Brown, 51, of Fountain Hills passed away Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at home.
She had battled kidney cancer for almost two years with a determination that few would have had under the same circumstances.
Anita was born April 4, 1953 in Corning, N.Y., the daughter of Theresa and Michael Pierotti, who predeceased her. She married Timothy T. Brown on Nov. 26, 1977 at St. Vincent de Paul Church in Corning.
She graduated from Corning East High School in 1971, and attended the culinary art school at SUNY Cobelskill, where she graduated with Phi Beta Kappa honors.
Upon graduation, Anita took a position as manager of student dining services at Cornell University, where she worked for several years before taking a food management position with Motorola in Phoenix.
Anita’s love for the culinary arts brought her many awards throughout her career. She was a true pioneer in the onsite food service industry for many years as a former director of U.S. Operations for Food Works, Motorola’s former self-op hospitality group.
Her involvement with the Society for Food Management has helped make it what it is today. Anita won the prestigious IFMA Silver Plate award for business and industry in 2001.
She was a member of the Board of Directors for the Society of Food Management from 1998 through 2000, a former chairperson for the national conference and she received the President’s Award.
She was also the National Conference Food Committee Chairperson.
Anita donated many hours to charitable organizations, including the United Way, Boys and Girls Clubs, School Work programs and Pro Start.
Anita is survived by her loving husband, Timothy; her daughter, Courtney (Jonathan) Fears; and her son, Cody, all of Fountain Hills.
Family and friends will gather in Corning, N.Y. for a mass and burial. No local services will be conducted.
Rinold J. Carl
Rinold J. Carl died March 26 at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea Hospital at the age of 70.
He was born in Richland County, Wis. October 20, 1931 and grew up in Baraboo, Wis. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After his marriage he and his wife moved to West Allis, Wis. and worked in constriction of electric utilities.
He spent five years in Bangladesh on a USAID project as a consultant to the Rural Electrification Board. After his return, he moved to Fountain Hills where he has resided for the past 14 years.
Mr. Carl is survived by his wife Jeanette of Fountain Hills; two daughters DeAnne Carl of Milwaukee, Wis. and Karen Start (Dave) of Little Rock, Ark.; one son Steven Carl (Nancy) of San Marcos, Texas; five grandchildren, Kyle Kendra and Rachel Stuart and Andrea and James Carl.
He is further survived by his brother Edward (Betty) Carl of Janesville, Wis. and is sister Marcella Shultiz (Royce) of Reedsburg, Wis. and several nieces and nephews.
He was a member of the Fountain Hills Community Church where a memorial service was held April 1.

Lester Comstock
Lester Earl Comstock of Fountain Hills died March 21, 2002 in Scottsdale. He was 84 years old.
Mr. Comstock was born Aug. 26, 1917 in Montrose, Iowa. He was a communications supervisor for AT&T and retired in 1977 after 40 years of service. He was a member of The Fountains, a United Methodist Church.
His wife, Thelma Comstock; son, Thomas Comstock (Judith) of Scottsdale; daughter, Joan Tjugum (Kenneth) of Mesa; sisters-in-law, Virginia Comstock of Davenport, Iowa, Roberta Comstock of Montrose, Iowa and Genevieve Comstock of Redondo Beach, Calif.; two grandchildren, Suzanne and Erik Nelson of Mesa; great-grandchild, Justin Nelson of Mesa; five nieces and nephews and many friends survive him.
A memorial service was held March 25 at The Fountains, a United Methodist Church.

Dawawunima "Dawa" Delacruz
Dawawunima "Dawa" Delacruz, a resident of Fort McDowell died March 30 at Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn Hospital. He was 29 years old.
Mr. Delacruz was born August 14, 1972 in Phoenix. He was a landscape laborer, member of the Fort McDowell Presbyterian Church and a member of the Verde River Rats Band.
Survivors include sons Elias and Samuel Delacruz of the Salt River Community; daughters Angel Sun Delacruz of Fountain Hills, Monica, Ayaila, Marissa and Enmorrea Delacruz of the Salt River Community; brothers Michael and Daniel Gashwytewa of Fort McDowell and Duane Denny and Brandon Manuel of Fort McDowell and sisters Monica Thompson of Fountain Hills, Carole Kimble, Jennifer Fenton and Madeline Enos of Fort McDowell.
Visitation was held at the Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary on Tuesday. A service was held today at 9 a.m. at the Fort McDowell Presbyterian Church Arbor in Fort McDowell. Interment is at the Fort McDowell cemetery.
Claire Winter
Claire S. Winter, 87, of Fountain Hills died April 4, 2002 at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea hospital.
Born March 8, 1915 in Aberdeen, Wash., she was a homemaker and long-time resident of Fountain Hills.
Mrs. Winter was a member of the Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church, Scottsdale Healthcare Shea Auxiliary, The Starlighters and Club Angels of Fountain Hills.
Survivors include her daughters, Carol J. Winter of Fountain Hills, Jan Dorsey of Jamestown, Colo. and Linda Winter of Mesa; and a brother, Cal Speigle of Sitka, Alaska.
A memorial service was held April 9 at the Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church.

Richard Cole Stephens
Fountain Hills lost one of its fond supporters for 16 years on April 11, 2002.
Richard Cole Stephens passed away at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea hospital after a three-week illness of respiratory distress.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sally; daughters, Suzette (Ron) Lynch and Perette Stephens; two grandsons, Garrett Cole Lynch and Wyatt Adams Lynch (born April 14); a sister, Nancie Phillips Dobish; nephew Hans Phillips; and niece, Lisa Sheehan.
His parents, Mizel Stephens and Kathleen Cole, preceded him in death.
As one friend commented, Dick was a very unique individual full of talent, intelligence and humor.
He brokered Stephens Realty for the past seven years, wrote two books and became an accomplished artist with paintings in museums in South Africa and Oklahoma City.
He won many ribbons at the local March art display at the Community Center, along with having his own one-man show several years ago.
Dick would have wanted to be remembered for his 12 years of Naval Service for his country, serving in both Korea and Vietnam, serving as art director for the Joseph Pulitzer Publishing Co. for 17 years, his conscientious service to clients over the years and his dry wit with both friends and family.
As per his wishes, no services will be held at this time. The immediate family plans to have a private ocean ceremony later in the summer.
A very sensitive man has left us, but he will always be in his family’s heart as the greatest Dad and husband who ever existed. As Dick’s favorite song goes, I’ll be seeing you.
Mae M. Vine
Mae M. Vine, 91, died April 18 in Phoenix.
Mrs. Vine was born June 25, 1910 at Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by a son, Richard Vine of Naperville, Ill.; two daughters, Barbara Erickson (Richard) of Scottsdale and Donna Dietrich of Fountain Hills; two brothers, Clay Williams of Donners Grove, Ill., and Lester Williams of Burlington, Iowa; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Services for Mrs. Vine were held Monday, April 22, at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary. A graveside service is being held at Mount Auburn cemetery, Stickney, Ill.

Tat Yin Choo
Tat Yin Choo, 47, of Fountain Hills died April 14 at his home.
Mr. Choo was born on Aug. 12, 1954 in Jasin Malacca, Malaysia. He was a manufacturing chemical engineer during his career.
His wife, Kathi R. Choo of Fountain Hills; son Joseph Choo of Methuen, Mass.; brothers A.C. Chu, Tat Fak Choo, Tat Ming Choo, Yu Hiong Cho and Wen Hui and sisters Ah Chin Choo; Chieu Fong Choo, Yuc Riun (Fook Mei) Choo, Yu Fong Choo, Feng Mei Choo, Yu Kwei Choo and Siao Ling Choo survive him.
Visitation and funeral services were on April 16 at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary.

Robert J. Ripple
Robert J. "Bud" Ripple, 87, a Fountain Hills resident, died May 3. He was born in Milwaukee, Wis. and was a resident of Tucson for 14 years.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Rosemary (Ellis) Ripple; daughters Mary Pierangeli, Jane Ripple, Laura Ripple; son Stephen Ripple; five grandsons; and brother Neal Ripple of Dodgeville, Wis.
Robert, a World War II Navy veteran, was employed in the Industrial Division of Snap-On, Inc.
A memorial mass will be Thursday, May 9, at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Ascension, 12615 N. Fountain Hills Blvd. A private burial will follow.
John B. Parrish
John B. Parrish of Fountain Hills died peacefully in his home on May 4. He was 77.
Mr. Parrish was born on April 30, 1925 in Paulding County, Ohio. He was self-employed, selling mechanical parts for school buses, and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include his wife Luverne Parrish of Fountain Hills; son Mike of Minneapolis, Minn.; daughter Cathy of Minneapolis, Minn.; brothers Charles of Scottsdale and Richard of Ohio; sister Ruby Hammersmith of Ohio; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service is planned for Wednesday, May 8, at 10 a.m. at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary.

Tom K. Callaghan
Tom K. Callaghan, a winter visitor to Fountain Hills, died May 19, 2002 in Summerville, SC. He was born March 5, 1925 in Westport, SD.
Services for Mr. Callaghan will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 24, at Church of the Ascension, Fountain Hills. Visitation will be held at Messinger Fountain Hills from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 23. Burial will be at Paradise Memorial Gardens in Scottsdale.
Mr. Callaghan served in the United States Navy during World War II from 1943 to 1946. He was co owner of a welding supply company in Aberdeen, SD and Grand Forks and Fargo, ND. He retired in 1988 spending time in Arizona, Kentucky and South Carolina. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Veterans of Foreign Wars and a past member of the Elks Lodge. He also served as president of the University of North Dakota Booster’s Club.
Mr. Callaghan was preceded in death by his parents, Fern and Walter Callaghan. He is survived by his wife, Ruth; one daughter, Jennifer Feitman of Summerville, SC; two sons, Jack of Sante Fe, NM, and Kevin of Livermore, Calif.; one sister, Patricia Wilkinson of Wolf Point, Mont.; and seven grandchildren.
A. Doris Gerrard
A. Doris Gerrard, 85, of Fountain Hills, died May 20, at her home.
Mrs. Gerrard was born Sept. 3, 1916 in Arlington, Mass. She was a homemaker and member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Sara Optimist Club, Parker, Ariz.
Mrs. Gerrard is survived by one son, Robert L. Holman (Hazel) of Anaheim, Calif.; two grandsons, Scott and Mark Holman of Anaheim, Calif.; and two great-grandsons, Adam and Kyle Holman, of Anaheim, Calif.

Dean Bartoo
Fountain Hills resident Dean Bartoo died on May 29. He was 54 years old.
Mr. Bartoo was known to many in the community for his giving spirit and caring nature, especially where children were concerned.
He was a Distinguished Past President of Sunset Kiwanis for two years. He and his wife, Germaine, did charity work in many incantations including the German festival and countless projects with the Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Bartoo was active with funding for the Cub Scouts and even in his final weeks, made a check presentation to that group. He liked old cars, traveling and camping.
His wife, Germaine, and his mother, Virginia Bartoo, survive him.
"He always let me be myself and he always made me laugh every day," remembers Germaine. "I never heard a harsh word come out of his mouth about anybody. He lived with courage and dignity and he died with courage and dignity."
In lieu of flowers, Germaine has asked that donations be made in Dean’s name to the Make A Wish Foundation, 1624 E. Meadowbrook Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85016.
"I think he would have liked that because of how he felt about children," she said. "I will follow up so people know where their money went and the one or two children we helped."
Newcomer Family Mortuary handled the arrangements. A memorial service was Monday, June 3.
Beatrice Goff Christ
Beatrice Goff Christ, 59, died June 1 in Fountain Hills. Preceded in death by her parents, William Taft Goff and Ina Mae Moore Goff, she is survived by her husband Allen Eugene Christ, son Dana Scott and daughter Crystal Janet Christ. Also, her siblings Lillie Mae Phelps, Walter Marvin Goff and Jo Ellen Goff and many nieces and nephews. Beatrice was a loving wife, mother, sister and best friend and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Beatrice was the Deputy City Clerk for the City of Scottsdale where she was employed for more than 22 years. She was born in Cotulla, Texas on March 18, 1943. She graduated from Lamar Consolidated High School in Rosenberg, Texas, where she met her husband of 37 years. Beatrice and her family moved to Arizona in 1972.
Her family was blessed day after day by her steady guiding spirit, her dry sense of humor and her courageous indomitable strengths.
Visitation was at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary. Funeral services were today at Church of the Ascension with a graveside service at Paradise Memorial Garden.
