"Sally" Schoemperlen
Celestine "Sally" Schoemperlen, 86, peacefully entered eternal life on May 25, 2002 in Fountain Hills, Ariz. She was the beloved wife of Elmer for 61 years.
She was born in Bessemer, Mich. on May 16, 1916. She and Elmer left their life-long home in Milwaukee, Wis. in Jan. 2002 to spend the rest of her life in sunny Arizona.
She is survived by Elmer and their four children. She was the beloved mother of Shannon Wittal, Pewaukee, Wis., Barbara Eldridge, Fountain Hills, James Schoemperlen, Williams Bay, Wis., Jack Schoemperlen, Simi Valley, Calif., son-in-law Jim Eldridge and daughter-in-law Geri Schoemperlen. One daughter, Patricia Louise, preceded her in death in 1943 at the tender age of three days.
She has 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, George, John and Arthur Ceolla. She has two surviving brothers, Roland and Robert Ceolla, and sister-in-law Shirley Ceolla.
She was a loving and selfless person to all including her "children of Wind Lake."
Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 29, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary, 12065 Saguaro Boulevard. A funeral mass will be at the Church of the Ascension 12615 Fountain Hills Boulevard Thursday, May 30, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Paradise Memorial Gardens, 9300 E. Shea Boulevard, Scottsdale.
Edith P. Weber
Edith P. Weber, 66, of Fountain Hills died Wednesday, May 23, 2002 at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea hospital.
Mrs. Weber was born June 7, 1935 in Boston, Mass. She was a librarian and retired from the Fort McDowell Library. She was a member of many charitable organizations and a friend of all desert wildlife and an avid animal lover.
Her family wants Mrs. Weber remembered for her courageous, uncomplaining outlook in the face of major medical problems.
After her family moved to Arizona she became knowledgeable about and loved the native landscape and culture.
She was a volunteer at nature centers, supported many environmental causes and was a lover of animals, especially her four cats.
Mrs. Weber is survived by her husband, James Weber of Fountain Hills; her mother, Carmen Sena of Grand Junction, Colo.; two sons, Chris Michael of London and Steven of Paso Robles, Calif.; one brother, Chris Sena of Phoenix; three sisters, Marion Sena of Tanzania, Africa, Sylvia Relly of Denver, Colo., and Rita Stevens, of Grand Junction, Colo.; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service for Mrs. Weber was held May 28 at the Catholic Church of the Ascension in Fountain Hills.

Thomas Toppel
Thomas "Tom" Toppel, 49, of Fountain Hills, died May 22 He owned and operated the Take Five Deli in the Security Center Building of Phoenix.
He is survived by his wife, Hollie; sons Russell and Nicholas and daughter Michelle, all of Fountain Hills; a brother Michael of Apache Junction; sister JoAnne Haring of Botavia, Ill. and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, at the Church of the Ascension, located at 12615 N. Fountain Hills Dr.

Joseph H. Tully
Joseph H. Tully, 81, of Fountain Hills, died Tuesday, July 30, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.
Mr. Tully was the husband of Doreen Rosenthal Tully; the son of the late Frank M. Tully and Victorine Haley; the brother of James Tully (Sally) of Marshall, Minn., the late Frank X. Tully, and the late Grace Tully Mulcahy; the father of David B. Tully (Casey) of Wesley Chapel, Fla., Patrick J. Tully of St. Louis, Mo., Mary S. Tully (Ron Cain) of Tampa, Fla., Vicky Tully Sherman (Andy) of Tucson, Ariz., Mimi Tully Denes (Alex) of St. Louis, Mo., Libby Tully Vanderwall (Rick) of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Katy Tully Pompe (Frank) of Litchfield Park, Ariz., Ross C. Rosenthal (Stacy) of Eden Prairie, Minn., and Jody Anschutz (Fred) of Tonto Verde, Ariz.; the grandfather of Brian, Lisa, Timothy, Jenny, Laura, Mark, David, Christy, Alec, Maggie, Loren, Peter, Tom, Chris, Joe, Susie, Frank T., Adam, Max and Ali; and great-grandfather of Kevin and Colin.
A service was held Thursday, Aug. 1, at Resurrection cemetery, St. Louis, Mo.

Robert Dombrowski
Robert "Bob" Dombrowski, 73, of Fountain Hills, died August 4, at Scottsdale Healthcare.
Mr. Dombrowski was born April 18, 1929 in Chicago, Ill. He will be remembered for his love for his family and his passion for golf that began at an early age as a caddie at Tam O’Shanter Country Club. He later attended Northwestern University as a "Chick" Evans Scholar. He and his beloved wife, Lori, resided in Barrington, Ill. until his retirement. They have called Fountain Hills home since 1993.
He is survived by his wife, Lori; daughters, Cherie (Thomas) Thorpe of Fresno, Calif., and Debbie (Harry) Vasels, of Lake Zurich, Ill.; son, Gregg (Andrea) of South Elgin, Ill; six grandchildren, Jonathan, Courtney, Nicole, Robert, Peter and William; a godson, Russ Fitton; and his "extended" family in Fountain Hills and Tonto Verde.
A memorial service for Mr. Dombrowski will be held Thursday, Aug. 8, at 10 a.m. at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary, 12065 Saguaro Blvd. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions in his name to the Evans Scholarship Foundation, Western Golf Association, 1 Briar Road, Golf, Ill., 60029 (847) 724-4600.
Louis M. Caldera
Louis M. Caldera died Monday, Aug. 5, 2002 at his home in Fountain Hills. He was 73.
Mr. Caldera was born Jan. 18, 1929 in Somerville, N.J. He was an actuary claims adjustor for Prudential Insurance. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict, was a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity and a parishioner at Church of the Ascension in Fountain Hills.
Mr. Caldera is survived by his wife, Rose, of Fountain Hills; two sons, Paul (Doreen) of Boston, Mass. and David (Elaina) of Little Silver, N.J.; a daughter, Lisa Kobran (Christopher) of Millstone, N.J.; and five grandchildren.
Services for Mr. Caldera were held Friday, Aug. 9, at Church of the Ascension. Interment is at Paradise Memorial Gardens in Scottsdale.

Michelle Lawler
Michelle S. Lawler, 31, of Fountain Hills died Aug. 6, 2002 at the Eckstein Center in Scottsdale.
Born Oct. 2, 1970 in Pomona, Calif., she worked as an airline reservation agent.
Survivors include her father, Bob Lawler (Peggy) of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; mother, Carol Salisbury (Roger) of Fountain Hills; brother, John Lawler (Pattie) of Fontana, Calif.; sister, Wendy Badgett (Bob) of Scottsdale; and nephews, Brian and Corey Badgett of Scottsdale.
A graveside service was held Aug. 10 at La Verne cemetery in La Verne, Calif. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be sent to Barrow Neurological Institute, 350 W. Thomas Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85013.
Esther (Bobbi) Leonard
Esther (Bobbi) Diane Leonard, 56, of Fountain Hills died Aug. 3, 2002.
Leonard was born on June 19, 1946 in Sheboygan, Wis.
She is survived by her husband Paul Leonard, daughters Wendy and Linda Merkling, her son David Merkling, dogs Kissie and Casino and grandchildren Kasi, Joshua and Dystiny Merkling.
Services will be 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, at Congregational Church of the Valley 12001 E. Shea Blvd. in Scottsdale.
William Szubka
William E. Szubka, 84, of Fountain Hills died Aug. 5, 2002 at the Eckstein Center in Scottsdale.
Born March 26, 1918 in Chicago, Ill., Mr. Szubka was a World War II veteran and worked as a heavy equipment operator during his career.
Survivors include his daughters, Lee (Tom) Fernandez of Fountain Hills and Lynn Burda of Fountain Hills; four grandchildren; and four and a half great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Friday, Aug. 9, at Church of the Ascension in Fountain Hills. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014.
Eric Vogel
Eric was born December 22, 1994 in Geneva, Illinois to Ron and Darlene Vogel. He died Monday, August 5 in Tucson after battling leukemia for four of his seven and a half years of life. Eric has one sister, Greta. To some he was also known as "Max." Eric enjoyed soccer and playing with "super heroes" and building Lego’s with his buddies. He attended Fountain Hills Charter School.
A time of remembering and thanksgiving for Eric’s life was held during the 9:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday, Aug. 11 at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church.

E. Marie Shepherd
E. Marie Shepherd passed away on Oct. 15, 2002 due to an infection after a colonoscopy at Craig Memorial Hospital.
Marie is survived by her husband Jim Shepherd, Craig, Colo., daughter, Claudia Fountain, Beulah, Colo., and three grandchildren, Jennifer Shepherd, Geoffrey Mortimer and Jimmy Fountain.
Marie was born on July 30, 1925 in Denver, Colo. to Emil and Stella (Holbeach) Sandberg. She was preceded in death by both parents and stepmother Trillia Sandberg. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Eva, when Marie was only 10 years old.
Marie was raised and attended school in Denver. She spent many summers in Clark and Steamboat Springs visiting relatives. During her sophomore year in high school her family moved to Los Angeles, Calif. She finished high school at John Marshall High School and enrolled in Dental Hygienist School at Los Angeles Community College.
During 1945 she met Jim, her young Marine hero, and corresponded with him during WWII. The young couple married on June 1, 194 in Los Angeles and then moved to the wilderness town of Craig, Colo.
Along with many other newlyweds after the war, she learned the fine art of cooking, decorating a small apartment and having babies.
Marie loved tennis, bowling and golf. She was a member of the Congregational Church, LRC, Eastern Star, PEO and the Yampa Valley Ladies Golf Association of which she was the president of the YV Golf Course Memorial Committee, and was the founding member of the Museum of Northwest Colorado.
She traveled extensively with Jim during his appointment as Kiwanis Governor and also during his term as aide with the Northwestern Colorado Shriners.
She was responsible for organizing the reunions of the 7th Field Marine Transport Co., in which her husband served during the war. She spent many hours updating statistics and creating scrapbooks for over 30 years of reunions.
In addition to enjoying the growth and adventures of her children she also enjoyed her time of breeding and raising her poodles. Due to emphysema and intestinal medical problems and pain, Marie was unable to walk very much but loved to play her organ, read biographies and play gin with her husband.
Marie and Jim bought a second home in Fountain Hills where they could winter and enjoy the community they had discovered 25 years ago.
Willabeth Scott
Willabeth Scott passed away peacefully at her home in Fountain Hills on Dec. 5, 2002. She was born Jan. 6, 1924 in Trail, Okla. to John and Beula Hanavan. Willabeth (Willie) lived in Clinton, Okla.; San Francisco Bay area; Lake Tahoe and Carson City, Nev.
Willabeth sold real estate for 30 years in Nevada, and her husband, Warren Howard Scott, was a general contractor. Willabeth and Warren moved to Fountain Hills in 1991.
Willabeth was married to Warren for 59 years, who preceded her in death on Jan. 21, 2002. She was also preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.
She is survived by her daughter, Judy Kay Scott of Fountain Hills; son Darrell Scott of Mesa; grandson Tony Ronzone of Fountain Hills; Shauna Scott of Sacramento, Calif.; and twin great grandsons, Cade and Austin Ronzone; three sisters, Vinita Elpers of Fountain Hills, Christine Williams of Elko, Nev., and Christel Chrismer of Carson City, Nev.; brother, Phil Hanavan of Fountain Hills; sister-in-law, Pat Lepper; and extended family in the U.S.
Willie loved all sports and was a dedicated fan of the Arizona State University Sun Devils basketball team and the Detroit Pistons. Willie touched the lives of many and was an inspiration to her family and friends as she courageously dealt with her terminal illness. She had a zest for life and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A memorial for Willabeth Scott will be Jan. 5, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Bill and Vinita Elpers at 15756 E. Tumbleweed Dr., Fountain Hills. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Banner Hospice of Arizona, 1325 N. Fiesta Blvd., Gilbert, AZ 85233.
Margaret W. Martin
Margaret Daisy Witney Martin, age 88 ˝, died Sunday, Dec. 15. Family members say she would be pleased that people know she reached that age.
Mrs. Martin was born May 11, 1914 in London, England. She is survived by her daughter Patricia, son-in-law, Mark, a grandson, Keith, who loved her more than she will ever know, and her sister Jane Witney Mansour.
A memorial service for Mrs. Martin will be held Wednesday, Dec. 18, a Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary, 12065 N. Saguaro Blvd. at 6 p.m.

Robert Offringa
Robert Offringa, former Fountain Hills resident, died Nov. 28, 2002 at Classic Residence Care Center after a long illness. He was 84.
He was one of 11 children born to Alice and Reno Offringa. He served in World War II as a first lieutenant and was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He earned a degree in architecture from the University of Illinois.
During his business career he was an executive in the aluminum and sporting goods industries. He was active in various civic groups in his many moves around the United States and Canada. He was a member of the Pinnacle Peak Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Offringa is survived by his wife, Imogene, of 61 years; three daughters, Karen Arnold, Robin Tjon and Barbara Crane; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother; and two sisters.
A private service is planned.
Ernest Bryan
Ernest Victor Bryan, 84, of Mesa died Nov. 25, 2004 in Phoenix.
Born Sept. 19, 1920 in Miami, Fla., he was retired from the U.S. Coast Guard.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1947, earning the National Defense Medal, and served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1948 to 1965.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Vera Bryan; and his son and three daughters, Michael Bryan, Linda Dunn, Sharon Bryan and Gretchen Croutch. He was grandfather to five grandchildren and had six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Nov. 29 at First Southern Baptist Church of Mesa; military burial services to be held Dec. 2 at the National cemetery in Phoenix at 10:30 a.m.
Chester Sikora
Chester J. Sikora, 79, of Fountain Hills died Nov. 19, 2004 at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea hospital.
Born April 21, 1925 in Chicago, Ill., he worked as an accountant in retail plumbing for many years.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran from World War II and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his brother, Walter (Anne) Sikora of Scottsdale; sister, Jean; six nieces; and five nephews.
A funeral mass was said Nov. 30 at Church of the Ascension in Fountain Hills.
