Patricia J. Simpson
Patricia (Pat) J. Simpson of Fountain Hills, born Dec. 8, 1933, passed away peacefully on Dec. 27, 2001.
Her last days were at the Hospice of the Valley Eckstein Center, surrounded by family and friends, with many loving thoughts and prayers.
Patricia was preceded in death by her husband, Richard C. Simpson Sr.; mother, Lila M. Sampson; father, James Sampson; and mother-in-law, Emma Sandbank. She will be deeply missed by her sister, Clarissa of Michigan; son, Daren, and daughter-in-law Tami of Arizona; daughter, Tamara of Arizona; three grandchildren; special family members and many friends.
Patricia enjoyed many activities while living in Arizona for more than 20 years. She belonged to the Fountain Hills Walking Club, Bridge Club, Walkabout Arizona, the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 58 and the VFW. She also enjoyed hiking, bowling, dancing and traveling.
Patricia also donated her services for such organizations as the American Red Cross and others. She always wanted to be there to help anyone she could.
Her strong, angel-like arms, we will forever feel.
A memorial service will be at the Church of the Ascension, 12615 N. Fountain Hills Blvd., on Saturday, Jan. 12, at 10 a.m.

Robert May
Robert “Bob” J. May, 83, of Rio Verde died Jan. 1, 2002 at Classic Residence (Memory Support) in Scottsdale.
Mr. May was born Jan. 13, 1918 in Minneapolis, Minn., where his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Wayne H. May, resided for many years.
At an early age, Mr. May was interested in Scouting and eventually earned his Eagle Scout rank. This Scouting carried over into adulthood and he became Scoutmaster of Highland Park Scout Troop in St. Paul, Minn., where his son, Bob Jr. was a part of Scouting.
Mr. May attended the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and after graduation became a pilot and captain in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. After the war he became a pilot with TWA Airlines.
Then he spent 33 years with 3M Company in St. Paul and retired in 1980 as vice president of the firm’s Consumer Products Division.
Mr. May was a past president of the St. Paul Sales Executive Club and was active on the Board of Directors of the Ronald McDonald House on the UofM campus.
Mr. May met and married his wife, Jean, in Houston, Texas, while he was stationed at Ellington Field Air Force Base.
They resided in Edina, Minn. for 25 years and were members of Interlachen Country Club. They then retired to Rio Verde and have lived there for approximately 20 years.
Mr. May is survived by his wife, Jean, of Rio Verde; son, Richard (Robin) of Minnetonka, Minn.; a daughter-in-law, Norma May of Minnesota; four grandsons, Michael May of N. Canton, Ohio and David May of Sherman Oaks, Calif., and twins Brian and Darren May of Minnetonka; one granddaughter, Angela May; and a brother, Wayne H. May of Denver, Colo.
Mr. May was preceded in death by a son, Robert J. May Jr., and a granddaughter, Lisa Jean May.
A memorial service will be held at Lakewood cemetery in Minneapolis in the Chapel of the Mausoleum in June.

Dick Clark
Dick Clark, 61, a Fountain Hills resident, died Feb. 20 at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea hospital.
Mr. Clark was born on June 28, 1940 in Shelby, Ind. He was a design integrator for Boeing Aircraft manufacturer and served in the Army during the Vietnam War.
Mr. Clark was a member of the Army Aviation Association, Vietnam Helicopter Pilot’s Association, American Legion Post 58 in Fountain Hills, the Goldwing Road Rider Association, American Motorcycle Association and was a first aid and CPR instructor. He was also active in the Great Pyrenees Club and the National Rifle Association.
Survivors include his wife Daniela Clark, also of Fountain Hills; son Richard Clark Jr. of Aston, Pa.; daughter, Shelby Marks of York, Pa.; aunt, Frances (Clyde) DeVore of Franklin, Ind.; and four grandchildren.
A memorial mass was held on Saturday, Feb. 23, at Church of the Ascension. Interment will be at the National Memorial cemetery of Arizona.

Jack Gerak
Jack J. Gerak of Fountain Hills passed away at his home Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002.
Services will be at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary Saturday, March 2, at 3 p.m.
Mr. Gerak was born June 20, 1924 to George and Rose (Vopat) Gerak in Cleveland, Ohio. Following graduation from Thompson High School, he joined the U.S. Navy. He served on the U.S.S. Piper and was a member of the U.S. Submarine Veterans of World War II.
On Aug. 14, 1947 he married Gerry Barrett. They lived in Ohio, California and Arizona.
Mr. Gerak worked as a meat cutter in Ohio and California. He and Gerry managed the HonDah store and hotel on the White Mountain Apache Indian Reservation from 1972 to 1980.
Mr. Gerak made many friends while providing pool, yard and handyman services in Fountain Hills. He was a willing helper at St. Dominic’s Food Bank in Fountain Hills.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a grandson.
Mr. Gerak is survived by his wife, Gerry; two daughters and sons-in-laws, Caren (Chuck) Lattimer of Fountain Hills and Christy (Gary) Anno of Oklahoma; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He also is survived by two sister, Rosemary (Walter) Brockman of Fountain Hills and Joan Pencak of California; sister-in-law Eleanor Gerak of Ohio; and a brother, Jim, of California. He also leaves behind nieces, nephews and many friends. He will be missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one’s favorite charity.
Beatrice N. Levisee
Beatrice Norma Levisee of Fountain Hills, formerly of Tucson died on Feb. 25 at her home with her family at her side.
Born March 15, 1911 in Portland, Maine, Beatrice was an accomplished pianist and contralto soloist. Bea studied at Fontainebleau Conservatory of Music and the Julliard School of the Arts. She went on to perform at Radio City Music Hall, Carnegie Hall and various other venues.
Bea taught piano privately in her home and was actively involved in community service throughout her lifetime.
Bea is survived by her sister, Shirley Cowell; two daughters, Nancy Lee Levisee and Judith Ann Shoob; three granddaughters Beth Gosnell, Rebecca Garr and Kelly Silvera and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will me at Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church Friday, March 1, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, her family is requesting that donations be made to Hospice of the Valley at 5111 N. Scottsdale Rd., Ste. 208, Scottsdale, AZ, 85250.
Bea was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by many.
Clyde R. Odin
Clyde R. Odin, 81, of Fountain Hills died Feb. 20, 2002 in Mesa.
Mr. Odin was born on July 23, 1920 in Moorehead, Minn. He was a fish and wildlife biologist for the Department of the Interior for 30 years and served in the Army during World War II.
Mr. Odin was a life member of VFW Post 7507 in Fountain Hills as well as a member of the American Legion in Mesa, the Elks Club in Scottsdale and the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Fountain Hills.
His wife, Alice; sons David (Jan) Odin of Jamestown, N.D., Michael Odin of Anchorage, Alaska, John Odin of Reno, Nev. and Mark Odin of Las Vegas, Nev.; daughter, Cynthia (Russell) Parker of Williamston, Mich.; brother, Lloyd (Muriel) of Moorehead, Minn.; and five grandchildren survive him.
Monday, Feb. 25, a visitation and memorial service were held at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church. Interment is at the National Memorial cemetery in Phoenix.

Baten G. R. Seimon
Baten G. Remon Seimon of Fountain Hills died Feb. 21 at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea hospital. He was 72-years-old.
He was born in Bejdarfel, Lebanon on Jan. 31, 1930.
Mr. Seimon worked his entire life in Minneapolis, Minn. managing and owning is rental properties. He retired to the Fountain Hills area five years ago. He enjoyed being at home with his family and friends.
Sons Sayed, Remon and Edward of Minneapolis, George, David and Adam of Fountain Hills and Fred of Phoenix; daughters Ramona and Ruth of Minneapolis and Jemel of Fountain Hills; brothers Wilson, Jacques and Joseph of Minneapolis; sisters Georgette, Gabrielle and Victoria of Minneapolis; 12 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren and friend Lynn survive him.
A visitation was Saturday, Feb. 23, in Fountain Hills. Service and interment will be in Minnesota.
John (Jack) Strehlow
John (Jack) Wayne Strehlow of Fountain Hills died on Feb. 24 in Scottsdale. He was 76.
Strehlow was born on Oct. 3, 1925 in Casselton, N.D. He was a banker during his career. He also served in the Navy during World War II.
His wife, Joann; daughters Diane Strehlow, Brenda (Ben) McIntyre and Kim (Gary) Hoglund; brother Monty (Joyce) Strehlow; sister Elsie Renee (Jack) Donnelly; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren survive him.
Visitation will be today, Feb. 27, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary located at 12065 N. Saguaro Blvd. followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. Interment will be at the Casselton cemetery in North Dakota.

Ida Wilson
Ida Wilson, 80, of Fountain Hills died Feb. 14, 2002 at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea.
Born June 29, 1921 in Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Wilson had worked in administration at the Santa Clara District County Attorney’s Office.
Survivors include her daughter, Catherine Smith of Oak Harbor, Wash.; granddaughter, Noell Wilson of Oak Harbor; grandsons, Mitch Wintner of Texas, Aaron Langmayer of Texas and Christopher Langmayer of Texas; and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Feb. 22 at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary.

John Davenport
John D. Davenport, 89, of Fountain Hills died July 21, 2001 in Scottsdale.
Born Sept. 6, 1911 in Creston, Iowa, Mr. Davenport was vice president of a steel fabrication company before he retired.
Mr. Davenport was a member of the Men’s Club, the Noon Kiwanis Club and the Fountain Hills Lower Verde Valley Historical Society.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Davenport of Fountain Hills; sons, John Parker Davenport of Lake Oswego, Ore. and Robert D. Davenport of Oxford, N.J.; daughters, Alice M. Davenport of Glenwood Springs, Colo. and Norma Faye Davenport of Tucson; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A service was held July 23 at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary, and interment was at Paradise Memorial cemetery in Scottsdale.

Myrle Holl
Myrle L. Holl, 50, passed away at her home in Fountain Hills on Palm Sunday, March 24, 2002.
She was born Myrle Louise Wallen in Philipsburg, Pa. and lived in Brookhaven and Media, Pa. until coming to Fountain Hills in 1988. She graduated from Sun Valley High School in Aston, Pa. She became an X-ray technician and soon set her sights on nuclear medicine.
Myrle graduated from Fitzgerald-Mercy School of Nuclear Medicine in Darby, Pa. and became Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Chester, Pa. She was a member of the Society of Nuclear Medicine.
Myrle is survived by her husband, Christopher; son David Christopher; and her father and mother, William A. Wallen and Helen F. Wallen, all of Fountain Hills.
She was an active member of Fountain Hills Community Church, helping to coordinate the Friday morning Realtors’ breakfast. Baking was one of her specialties. Her Tosca Almond Cake was a favorite among the Realtors. Although Myrtle was housebound due to health problems, she was able to use her considerable telephone skills to meet and help many people. She will be remembered for her positive attitude and her ability to encourage others.
A memorial service was held at Fountain Hills Community Church on Thursday, March 28. Arrangements were made by Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary.

Marylou Moore
Marylou Moore born in Tacoma, Wash. in 1927 passed away in Fountain Hills on May 17, 2002.
Mrs. Moore and her husband spent their winters in Arizona for the past 12 years and their summers in Vaughn, Wash. on Puget Sound.
She attended the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma where she was a member of Phi Beta Phi Sorority. She met her husband, Marlin H. (Bud) Moore while in college and they were married in 1949. He entered the FBI in 1952 and they had assignments in Phoenix, Chicago, Washington, D.C., Albany and Anchorage. After his retirement in 1975 they returned to Washington State where they have many friends and family.
Mrs. Moore is survived by her husband, Bud; one son Michael and his wife Donna and their children Austin and Madison of Las Vegas; a daughter Jennifer and her children Katie and Cody McElmeel of Fountain Hills.
Memorial services will be held in Washington.
Oscar Adrian Granillo
Oscar Adrian Granillo, son of Oscar and Hilda Granillo, died May 28, 2002. He was born July 1, 1986. Oscar Granillo, Sr. has been a landscape worker in Fountain Hills for 20 years.
H. Alan Schlesinger
H. Alan Schlesinger died in Edina, Minn. on Sunday, May 19, 2002. He was 87.
He was born April 21, 1919 in Chicago, Ill., one of two sons of H.I. Schlesinger, a chemist and chairman of the University of Chicago chemistry department, and his wife, the former Edna Simpson. He graduated from the University of Chicago business school in 1936 and married the former Margaret Graver, also of Chicago, in 1938.
His career in advertising began with Swift and Company in Chicago. In 1948, he joined the BBD&O advertising agency in Minneapolis where he subsequently became a vice president. He worked later for the Knox-Reeves agency.
In retirement, Mr. Schlesinger was an avid reader, with great interest in the Civil War, and was an active investor, gardener and traveler. He spent winters in Fountain Hills.
He served in the Pacific during World War II, and was among the first American troops to enter Japan after the Japanese surrender. He was a member of Psi Upsilon Fraternity.
Mr. Schlesinger’s wife died in 1993. Survivors include his companion Lois Martin of Edina; two sons, Alan of Covent Station, N.J. and John of St. Louis Park, Minn.; daughter, Mary Guthrie of New York City; grandsons, Andrew of West Chester, Pa. and Philip, now in the Peace Corps in Panama; and one granddaughter, Robin Schlesinger of Morristown, N.J. His only great grandchild, Grace Schlesinger, of West Chester, died the day he was born.
A memorial service will be in Edina on June 1. In lieu of flowers, donations should be sent to the Minnesota Lung Association, 490 Concordia Ave., St. Paul, MN 55103-2441.
