Sylvester Aimone
Sylvester V. "Sy" Aimone, 80, of Fountain Hills died Dec. 22, 1999, in Scottsdale.
Born in Witt, Ill., Mr. Aimone was a long-time Fountain Hills resident who was a U.S. Army veteran from World War II, worked as a manufacturing engineer for Fort Motor Co. before retiring and was active with the Fountain Hills Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred, of Fountain Hills; daughters, Michele Johnson of Lacey, Wash., Sylvia Aimone of Fountain Hills and Lisa Marsh of Fountain Hills; a son, Michael Aimone of Fairfax, Va.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Dec. 27 at Mountain View Presbyterian Church in Scottsdale. Messinger Mortuary & Chapel of Scottsdale handled the arrangements.

Eric Cuniff
Eric Cuniff, 47, of Fountain Hills died Dec. 25, 1999.
Born Sept. 15, 1952 in Highland Park, Mich., Mr. Cuniff was self-employed.
Survivors include a brother, R.T. Cuniff (Robin) of Oceanside, Calif.; and friend, Bill Lutz of Fountain Hills.

Stella Stancati
Stella Celeste Stancati of Fountain Hills died at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea on Dec. 26, 1999 at the age of 82.
Born Stella Celeste Biscardi on Aug. 4, 1917, she was the 18th child of Italian immigrant parents.
She grew up in Brooklyn, N.Y., attended school there and was a member of an active, church going family.
True to her name, Stella Celeste (which means "heavenly star") became the "star" of her husband, Frank, and their children.
She and her family moved to Rockaway, N.Y., where they strove to be active in the church community.
As empty nesters, she and Frank moved to Valencia, Calif. to retire in 1989.
An earthquake on Jan. 17 of 1994, considered to be one of the most severe in California’s history, prompted the couple to move to their final home in Fountain Hills, where they were soon joined by their children.
Stella was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, in 1996 and a grandchild, Lisa Stancati, who died in 1992.
She is survived by daughters Gloria Coleman and Sylvia Beufve, sons Vincent and Timothy Stancati and a host of grandchildren.
A visitation for Stella was held yesterday, Dec. 28, at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary followed by an evening funeral service.
A graveside service will take place at 11 a.m. today, Dec. 29, at Paradise Memorial Gardens in Scottsdale.
Barneta Bennett
Barneta M. Bennett, 98, of Phoenix died Nov. 29, 1999 at the Life Care Center of Scottsdale.
Born April 20, 1901 in Pennsville, Ohio, Mrs. Bennett worked as a food service cashier during her adult career.
Survivors include her daughters, Joyce Moore of Fountain Hills and Phyllis Crump (Cameron), also of Fountain Hills; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; one brother; and two sisters.
A memorial service was held Dec. 5. The family suggests memorial contribution be donated to Monte Vista Baptist Church, 2409 N. 36th Street, Phoenix, AZ 85008.
Robert Intorf
Robert J. "Bob" Intorf, 49, of Fountain Hills died recently.
Mr. Intorf was born Jan. 9, 1950 in Berkley, Calif. He was employed in restaurant management.
Mr. Intorf is survived by his wife, Sharon; a daughter, Heather and a son, Dylan. He is also survived by his father, Arnold Intorf, of Tahoe City, Calif.; a brother, David Intorf of Tahoe City, Calif.; and a sister, Joan Intorf-Fox of Reno, Nevada.
No memorial services will be held.

Kathleen Langan
Kathleen Veronica Langan, 88, died on Nov. 30, 1999 at Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion, Neb.
The daughter of Walter and Emma (Lawler) Gordon, Mrs. Langan was born on Sept. 21, 1911 on a farm south of Cedar Rapids, Neb.
She was baptized and confirmed at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids.
Mrs. Langan received her elementary education at St. Anthony’s School and graduated from St. Anthony’s High School. She attended the University of Nebraska for one year and taught school at Boone County District 48 south of Cedar Rapids for four years.
She married Willis W. Langan on Feb. 24, 1936 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. The couple made their home in Cedar Rapids.
Mrs. Langan was a homemaker and news reporter for The Cedar Rapids Press for ten years. She and her husband moved to Wolf Good Samaritan Memorial Center in 1998.
She enjoyed crocheting, baseball games, playing cards, cooking and music. She was an avid Cubs fan who was also proud of her Irish heritage.
Mrs. Langan was a lifetime member of St. Anthony’s, where she participated in activities of the Altar Society, the Sunshine Club and the Rosary Club.
Survivors include her husband and seven children: daughter Lorraine Hoff and husband Dallas of Norfolk, Neb., son David Langan and wife Connie, daughter Peg Reeder and husband Tom, daughter JoAnn Miller and husband Fritz all of Cedar Rapids, son Michael Langan and wife Diane of Columbus, Neb., daughter Patricia Selle and husband Jerome of Grand Island, Neb. and daughter Nancy Dobson and husband Rich of Fountain Hills.
Other survivors include brother Tom Gordon and wife Joan of St. Louis, sister Eileen Harding of Lincoln, Neb., 28 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Langan was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother, Joseph, a sister, Margaret Langan, and one grandchild, Tony Reeder.
Visitations for Mrs. Langan were held on Dec. 2 and Dec. 3 at Levander Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids. Interment took place at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church cemetery.
Alexander Swartz
Alexander Michael Swartz, grandson of Michael and Carol Khazai of Fountain Hills, died Nov. 29, 1999, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Phoenix.
Alexander was just eight months old having been born March 10, 1999.
He is survived by his parents, Mitra and Gregory Swartz of Phoenix; maternal grandparents, the Khazais; and paternal grandmother, Rosalie Swartz of Indianapolis, Ind.
A memorial service for Alexander Swartz was held Friday, Dec. 3, 1999 at Palo Cristi Presbyterian Church in Paradise Valley.

George Dennison
George E. Dennison died Thursday, Feb. 4, in Scottsdale following a brief illness.
Mr. Dennison began his career as a helicopter pilot flying for radio station WMNI in Columbus, Ohio in 1964. In 1965 he moved to Hastings, Minn. and flew observing power lines across the state for Asplundh Tree Service under contract to Consumers Power Company. In 1979 Consumers Power purchased its own helicopter and hired Mr. Dennison to be its pilot.
He retired as a pilot in 1991 after accruing more than 20,000 hours in the air.
Mr. Dennison is survived by his wife, Joanne: one brother, Jack of West Hills, Calif.; two sons, Greg and Britt of Grand Rapids, Minn.; three step-sons, Wade of Saginaw, Mich.; David of Hampton, Va.; and Bruce of Battle Creek, Mich.; one step-daughter, Mollie Mueller of Battle Creek, Mich.; one sister-in-law, Charlotte, of Green Camp, Ohio and 13 grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for Michigan this summer.

Madeline Spagnoli
Madeline Spagnoli, 72, of Fountain Hills died on Feb. 6, 1999 at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea.
Born Oct. 13, 1926 in Red Lion Penn., Mrs. Spagnoli was employed as a physical therapist for the Veterans Administration Hospital starting during World War II and continuing until her retirement in 1986.
Mrs. Spagnoli was also the founding president of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees Chapter 2317 and a former member of the "Sweet Adelines," Highland Hills Chapter.
Survivors include her husband, Ivano of Fountain Hills; sons Joseph Pasquale of Phelan, Calif. and Michael Spagnoli of Lantana, Fla.; daughters Denise LaBonde of Havertown, Penn., Lisa Cullinane of Phelan, Calif., Lorraine Spagnoli of Aurora, Colo., Jeanne Bower of Ahwatukee, Ariz., Nancy Spagnoli of Victor, Mont., Andrea Allen of Aurora, Colo. and Donna Pasquale of Melville, N.Y.; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A visitation for Mrs. Spagnoli will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. tomorrow, Feb. 11, at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary, 12065 N. Saguaro Boulevard.
A service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 12, also at the mortuary.
The family suggests contributions be made to the American Lung Association, 102 W. McDowell Road in Phoenix, 85003.
Robert Clapper
Robert B. Clapper, known as "Poppy," was born in Canton, Ohio Feb. 2, 1921 and passed away on Feb. 2, 1999.
Having retired in Scottsdale, Mr. Clapper led a life rich with the love of friends and family.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Lambert; daughters, Cheryl Fardink and Constance Krasucki; sons, Robert B. Jr. and Donald F. of Fountain Hills; eight grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Mr. Clapper's early life was demanding, as he worked hard to achieve the high expectations and goals he set for himself. In 1948, he graduated No. 1 in his class from Ohio State University.
He led Army Troop No. 391 as an Army Air corps bomb sight engineer during World War II. Upon returning to America, he worked as a rocket scientist with Bell Aircraft until 1959. He transferred to General Electric and was asked to design the first nuclear rocket, which was later decided too hazardous for the American people.
During 1965-70, Mr. Clapper then took on the rewarding assignment of the Apollo program in Daytona Beach, Fla. He finished his career with G.E. from 1971 until his retirement in 1986 as a senior nuclear engineer with the Trident Submarine Nuclear Program at the prestigious Knolles Atomic Power Lab in upstate New York.
Mr. Clapper enjoyed a great attention to detail, so it was only fitting that he died on the same date of his birth, making him precisely 78 years old, a detail that would have delighted him.
With the rigors of his youth came trials and many "close calls" — once he suffered the imprisonment of a total body cast for over six months. He clung to the desire to live by claiming the verse, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me," Philippians 4:13.
Although Mr. Clapper's achievements were lofty, it was his retirement years with wife Doris that gave him the most joy. He was known as "Poppy" to his grandchildren and their classmates at the Fountain Hills schools. Poppy celebrated each holiday by delivering cookies and classes to their classes. Like a snow-topped smiling St. Nick, his arrival was exciting and his departure left everyone filled with the gift of love, a perfect portrayal of his life.
Eva Gruner
Eva Rose King Gruner, 78, of Fountain Hills died April 6, 1999 in Scottsdale.
Born March 20, 1921 in Clarksburg, Mass., Mrs. Gruner was an artist.
A member of the Fountain Hills Art League and the Fountain Hills Arts Council, she devoted her life to her husband, her art work and to raising, training and showing horses.
She is survived by her husband, Edward Clark Gruner, of Fountain Hills, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial gathering will be held Thursday, April 22, at 7 p.m. at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary, corner of Saguaro Blvd. and Colony Drive.
William Kimbrough
William Kimbrough, 64, of Fountain Hills died April 11, 1999 at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea.
Born Dec. 7, 1934 in Cuthbert, Ga., Mr. Kimbrough was a retired New York state parole officer.
Mr. Kimbrough also owned and operated several financial services companies in Arizona after his retirement.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran who received his master’s degree from Ohio State University.
Survivors include his wife, Carole Kimbrough of Fountain Hills; son, Jon Kimbrough of South Carolina; daughter, Channing Kimbrough of Chicago, Ill.; stepson, Michael Jones; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service was held April 16 at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary.

James J. Burke
James J. Burke, 63, of Fountain Hills died Feb. 24, 1999 in Scottsdale.
Born Aug. 8, 1935 in Staten Island, N.Y., Mr. Burke worked in the electrical and construction fields.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors include his wife, Hema Burke of Fountain Hills; sons, Michael of San Diego, Calif., Daniel of New Jersey, James III of Fountain Hills and Justin of Fountain Hills; daughters, Karen Carl of San Diego and Jennifer Burke of San Diego; brother, Timothy Burke of New York; sisters, Patricia Nyman of South Carolina and Janet Burke of New York; and two grandchildren.
A service was held Feb. 26 at Church of the Ascension in Fountain Hills.
