Rev. Bert Lancaster

The Rev. Bert L. Lancaster, 63, of Fountain Hills, who was assisting at The Fountains, a United Methodist Church, died June 14, 1998 in Illinois.

The Fountain Hills church plans to honor his life and ministry in a service of celebration Sunday, June 28, at 4 p.m.

He died that Sunday from an apparent heart attack while he was driving his motorcycle back from a Harley-Davidson anniversary reunion in Milwaukee, Wis.

His wife DeDe, a passenger on the motorcycle, was treated for minor injuries at the scene and released.

Rev. Lancaster was born Dec. 14, 1934 in Harrisburg, Ill. He served Methodist churches in Illinois for 36 years. His last assignment before retiring to Fountain Hills was serving the Wesley United Methodist Church in Bloomington, Ill. from 1980 to July 1, 1997.

Though he was retired from full-time ministry, Rev. Lancaster led a Sunday worship service at The Fountains and taught Bible studies.

He was a graduate of Harrisburg High School, receiving his B.A. in history from Blackburn University in 1956, a Master of Divinity from Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary in 1960 and a Doctor of Ministry in 1978.

Rev. Lancaster was active in many social, community and church organizations as a member, past president and board member of Virden and Bloomington Rotary clubs; a member of the Board of Trustees of Illinois Wesleyan University, where he also served on the Executive Committee, the Presidential Search Committee and as chairman of the Campus Life Committee.

He was a member of the Virden Lodge AF & AM. He was a member of the Bloomington Scottish Rite Bodies and was coronated a 33rd Degree Mason in 1987. He was a member of the American Passion Play cast for many years. He was also a member of the Bloomington York Rite Bodies.

Rev. Lancaster had a life-long relationship with Harley-Davidson motorcycles. He was an owner and riding enthusiast, traveling to many national rallies and participating in many road trips.

Besides his wife DeDe, other survivors include a daughter, Amy Applegate of Bloomington; a son, Derek Lancaster of Fountain Hills; sisters, Amy Persell of Kansas City, Mo. and Martha Ramsey of Fountain Hills; and a grand-daughter, Rory Applegate.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Brian Keith Lancaster and Briant Scott Lancaster; and two brothers.

Kenneth Landers

Kenneth Landers, 76, of Fountain Hills died June 19, 1998.

Mr. Landers was born in Glen Valley, Ind. and was a retired auto service manager.

He is survived by his wife, Marian Landers; sons, Kevin Landers and Jerry Engleman of Bismarck, N.D. and Sam Zachary of Kentucky; daughter, Jody Cleasby of Mesa; brother, Bob of Florida; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mr. Landers' war record was extensive. He was shot down as a crew member of a B-29 some 1700 miles into the interior of enemy territory in China, but the survivors walked to safety.

Medals received by Mr. Landers included the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with four Bronze Battle Stars, American Theater Service Medal, Victory Medal, one Overseas Bar and the Good Conduct Medal.

After four years of active duty, he spent 29 years in the Air Force Reserve and retired as a lieutenant colonel.

A memorial service will be held at Messinger Mortuary, 12065 N. Saguaro Blvd., on Thursday, June 25, at 5 p.m.

L. Scott Sutton

L. Scott Sutton, 36, of Fountain Hills, died June 19, at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea hospital.

Mr. Sutton was born August 29, 1961 at Prairie du Chien, Wis. He was a graduate of Ottawa University and employed as a counselor at a juvenile group facility. His "My Turn" article advocating organ transplant was published in Newsweek in December 1997. He received distinction for Outstanding performance at Ottawa University for a paper, Some Psychological Affects of Organ Transplant."

Mr. Sutton's survivors include his parents, Elly and Vern Sutton of Fountain Hills; two brothers, Mark (Dawn) of Fountain Hills, and Brad (Maria) of Paradise Valley; one sister, Julie (Jim) Sausen of Fort Collins, Colo.; his grandmother, Albena Sutton of Prairie du Chien, Wis.; one nephew, Bradley, and two nieces, Ciara and Ashley.

A memorial service for L. Scott Sutton will be held Saturday, June 27, at 2 p.m. at First Assembly of God, 16239 Ironwood Drive, Fountain Hills.

Joseline Green

Joseline Green, 52, of the Fort McDowell Indian Community died June 13, 1998 at John C. Lincoln Hospital in Phoenix.

Born July 16, 1945 in Phoenix, Mrs. Green worked in food service at the Fort McDowell Casino.

Survivors include her husband, William Green Sr.; son, Joseph Green of Fort McDowell; daughters, Gail Hunnicut of Fort McDowell, Rainbow Green of Fort McDowell and Sandra Hunnicut; sister, Licinda Denny of Fort McDowell; and six grandchildren.

A service will be held at 8 a.m. Wednesday, June 17, at the Fort McDowell Arbor. Interment will be at the Fort McDowell cemetery.

O. Edna Watson

O. Edna Watson, 84, of Fountain Hills died June 15, 1998 in Scottsdale.

Born in Delaware County, Ind., Mrs. Watson worked as a registered nurse during her career. She was a member of the Fountain Hills First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Everett Watson; son, Ronald L. Watson to Toquerville, Utah; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 18, at 9:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church. A memorial service will then be held at the church, 10215 N. Saguaro Blvd., at 10 a.m.

Interment will be at Paradise Memorial Gardens in Scottsdale.

Elaine Hale

Elaine Sue Hale, 38, of Fountain Hills died April 3, 1998 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix.

Born Oct. 19, 1959 in Bad Kruenach, Germany, Mrs. Hale was a postal mail carrier for the Scottsdale Post Office.

Survivors include her husband, Allen of Fountain Hills; son, Bryan; daughter, Crystal; mother, Ludmilla Hensley, Chicago Heights, Ill.; brother, Roy Hensley of Chicago Heights; and sisters, Roann Patti of Steger, Ill. and Shirley Bish.

A memorial gathering will be held today, April 8, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary, 12065 N. Saguaro Blvd.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Vista Del Camino, 7700 E. Roosevelt, Scottsdale, AZ 85257.

Richard, Laura Meyer

Wake services and a memorial mass were held this past week for Richard Arthur and Laura Ann Meyer of Scottsdale.

They were former residents of Fountain Hills.

Mr. Meyer died March 24, 1998, and Mrs. Meyer died March 27, 1998.

Born in Avilla, Ind., Mr. Meyer, 84, was a retired electrician in the construction industry. He was a member of IBEW No. 640, Knights of Columbus and Kiwanis International.

Mrs. Meyer, 76, was born in Conway, Ark. She was a retired executive secretary.

Survivors include her daughters, Sue Enright and Sandy Nastazi; also, his daughters, Anita Meyer, Kathleen Yakaitis and Karen Meyer; sons, Richard, Larry, Michael and Kenneth Meyer; sisters, Stella, Marguerite and Sister Anna Clare Meyer; brothers, Leo, Eugene, James and Carl; between them they had 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Wake services were held April 4 at Church of the Ascension in Fountain Hills. A memorial mass was said April 6 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Mesa.

The family suggests memorial contributions be given to the Richard and Laura Ann Meyer Memorial Fund, c/o Acts Foundation, 8502 E. Chapman Ave., Ste. 300, Orange, CA 92689.

Botimer Funeral Home of Phoenix handled the arrangements.

Franz Klassen

Former Fountain Hills resident Franz J Klassen, 64, of Mesa died March 9, 1998 in Scottsdale.

Born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, Canada, Mr. Klassen moved to Arizona 23 years ago from Canada. He was an owner/operator of beauty salons.

Mr. and Mrs. Klassen lived in Fountain Hills from 1975 to 1989. He was a member of the American Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Emilie C. Klassen of Mesa; three daughters, Brenda Dugaro of Hong Kong, Connie Flake of Oxford, Miss. and Denis Nicolajsen of British Columbia, Canada; mother, Marria Loepp of British Columbia; brother, John J. Klassen of British Columbia; sisters, Mary Wiens, Hilda Born and Lore Reemeyer, all of British Columbia; and nine grandchildren.

Visitation and services were held April 4 in Scottsdale.

Paul Ginger

Paul Ginger, 76, of Fountain Hills died Friday, April 3, 1998.

Born Oct. 4, 1921 in Unity Township, Pa., Mr. Ginger was a retired electrical mechanic from Western Electric.

He also served as a Merchant Marine during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; sons, Paul Ginger and Tim O'Brien; daughters, Dorothy Poortinga, Linda Wasielewski and Faith Petersen; sisters, Mary Klestik and Julia Francis; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Visitation and service were held April 6 at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary.

The family suggests memorial contributions be given to First Assembly of God, 16239 E. Ironwood Drive, Fountain Hills, AZ 85268.

Arthur Clarke

Arthur W. "Bill" Clarke, 77, of Fountain Hills died April 18, 1998 at Shadow Mountain Health Care in Scottsdale.

Born Nov. 20, 1920 in Eureka, Calif., Mr. Clarke was a retired civil engineer who had worked for the Southern California Gas Co. and the City of Los Angeles.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Betty, of Fountain Hills; sons, Dan of Clarkdale, Mark of Whidbey Island, Wash. and Alan of North Bend, Wash.; daughter, Vicky Clarke of Scranton, Ojai, Calif.; brothers, Jim and Don Clarke of California; sister, Nancy Erikson of Oregon; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Heart Association, 2929 S. 48th Street, Tempe, AZ 85282-4145.

Earl King

Earl H. King, 82, of Fountain Hills died March 11, 1998.

Born July 3, 1915 in Goodhue County, Minn., Mr. King was a retired dairy farmer from Farmington, Minn..

During World War II he served in the Army Air Corps.

Survivors include his wife, Jean King of Fountain Hills; son, John D. King of Fountain Hills; daughters, Carol L. Anderson of Tucson and Joanne M. Smith of Fountain Hills; brother, Alva King of Denison, Minn.; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service was held March 17 at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church. Interment was at National Memorial cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the building fund at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 17444, Fountain Hills, AZ 85269, or Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower Street, Phoenix, AZ 85002.

Barbara Ayles

Barbara F. Ayles, 76, of Fountain Hills died Feb. 5, 1998 in Scottsdale.

Born in Pennsylvania, she moved to Arizona one year ago from New Mexico. She was a homemaker and was active in local bridge games.

Survivors include her husband, Robert L. Ayles; daughter, Anne Grant of Phoenix; and two grandchildren.

A graveside service was held Feb. 9 at Paradise Memorial Gardens, 9300 E. Shea Blvd., Scottsdale.

Robert Emmons

Robert Truman Emmons, 78, of Fountain Hills, died Thursday, Feb. 5, at Shadow Mountain Health Care Center in Scottsdale.

Mr. Emmons was born June 9, 1919 in Berkeley, Calif. He was a retired safety engineer for the Insurance Brokerages of Industrial Indemnity and Marsh McLennan.

Mr. Emmons was a seventh generation San Franciscan and descendent of De Haro, First Elcalde of San Francisco. He attended the University of California Davis.

He is survived by his wife, Josephine, of Fountain Hills; and one daughter, Josephine H. Emmons of Seattle, Wash. He was preceded in death by a brother, William Emmons of Pebble Beach, Fla.

A memorial service for Mr. Emmons was held Monday, Feb. 9, at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary. Interment is at St. Johns cemetery, San Mateo, Calif.

The family is suggesting memorial contributions to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 East Flower Street, Phoenix, AZ. 85014.

Concetta Li Greci

Concetta "Connie" Li Greci, 65, of Fountain Hills died Nov. 27, 1998.

Born in Italy, she worked as an assembler with Honeywell for 25 years before retiring in 1995.

Survivors include her spouse, Nicola; daughter, Grace Murphy; son, Sam Li Greci; sister, Josephine Minnicino; and grandson, Ryan Murphy.

Visitation was held Nov. 30 at Hansen Mortuary in Phoenix. A service was held Dec. 1 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Phoenix.
